Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

[up] Please do the same thing at Film P To Z for The Power (1968)

Please unlock First Knight, or keep it locked but add this:

  • Complete Monster: Prince Malagant is a former Knight of the Round Table who once served King Arthur of Camelot, but turned rebel out of jealousy for the king. He and his followers frequently raid and burn villages to the grounds. Later, he and his knights capture Arthur's fiancé Guinevere and use her as a hostage for Arthur to give up his throne. In the end of the film, Malagant invades Camelot with his men and forces Arthur to bow before him or else he will die and Camelot will be torched. Once Arthur defies him, Malagant sees him fatally injured and dies furiously ordering his men to burn Camelot to the ground. Malagant also employs full use of We Have Reserves when he sacrifices a wave of soldiers just so Guinevere’s guards are out of position when the second wave hits.

Film F To O: In the Holocaust 2000 entry, please reword this sentence:

including decapitating a politician by helicopter blades, bisecting a scientist with a malfunctioning automated door, and blowing up a priest onboard a plane during takeoff

to this:

including a politician who's decapitated by helicopter blades, a scientist who's bisected with a malfunctioning automated door, and a priest who's blown up onboard a plane during takeoff

The grammar doesn't really add up right now since there's no subject.

Is this the place to make "hey there should be a disambiguation page here" requests? Because I think You Didnt See Anything should have one:

We don't have an article named Main/YouDidntSeeAnything. Perhaps you meant I Was Never Here, or You Didn't See That?

In Mister Sinister's entry on Monster.X Men, the pothole for Josef Mengele leads to Characters.Nazi Germany, which has been cutlisted. I'm requesting that the pothole be changed to UsefulNotes.Nazi Germany instead.

[up][up][up] Searching for "hit points" (with quotes) yields more results on Google than "health points" (with quotes). Moreover, searching for "hit points" (with quotes) results in Wikipedia's "Health (gaming)" page as the first result.

I mean, you already asked and got a response, but I don't think anyone's brought up search results yet.

I thought that was a general response to the trope, and if Life Meter has Health Meter, shouldn't Life Points have Health Points?

I'd like to make two edit requests to the Final Fantasy VII: Playable Characters page. First, I'd like an entry added:

-Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: In a way. When she died, her spirit returned to the Lifestream, but she was powerful enough to remain sentient within it. This allows her to command it when necessary, and help lost souls find atonement and peace.

I'd also like another entry modified; I'll give my reasons below:

-Flanderization: Downplayed. In her original game, Aerith was pure hearted, spiritual and caring, but was also stubborn, flirty, independent and witty. However, supplementary materials leave out those latter traits, emphasizing her connection to the planet, sweetness and innocence. Her Dissidia 012 Ultimania profile describes her as having "the innocence of a little girl". This is partially justified in that her purity and caring nature are her main character traits even in the original game, while her flirtiness, wittiness and stubbornness became less relevant since she died, having no more opportunities to show them.

The current entry makes it sound like a bad example of Flanderization, that removed her deep character traits in favor of generic purity, when it's actually understandable and justifiable IMO.

Her other personality traits are indeed mostly ignored in other entries of the compilation and other games, but like I said in the revised entry, these were minor traits even in the original game. She was witty, stubborn and flirty there, but mostly caring, pure-hearted and spiritual.

It's only natural these traits would be best remembered, especially in the Compilation. Her friends are obviously going to remember her by her best traits, and when she died, she moved to the Lifestream precisely because she was so pure in spite of, to quote the current entry "trying to rip off a mafia don's balls". Granted, that doesn't completely explain why the other spin-offs make no mention of her "lesser" traits, but it still does explain and justify her Flanderization.

That's a pretty long explanation, but it's constructive reasoning; since I'm making an entry on this forum I'd rather take time to explain my points, and discuss it with anyone who might disagree. smile

If the change of portrayal occurred in a spinoff or derivative work, then the trope example belongs in the article for that work, not the original.

  • 15910: There is no benefit to the redirects requested. Health Points in Google already has Hit Points as the third/sixth results (without quotes and with quotes). Armor As Hit Points and Armor Has Health Points would also bring little benefit (i.e. new inbounds).
  • 15915: Did the first one. As Fighteer pointed out, the second part should go to the derivative work.

DTH otherwise.

You're right Serac, I realized too late I forgot to mention it was under Aerith's entry. Sorry about that, I'll remember to mention it next time. ^^"

Fighteer, I know that, but the Flanderization example is already mentioned on the current page, as the Final Fantasy VII character pages encompass the entirety of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, not just the original game.

My request was to have the current Flanderization entry modified into the more constructive example I mentioned earlier; the current entry sounds too negative in my opinion, and makes the situation sound worse than it is. And if the example still doesn't fit, I'm also open to it being removed altogether; the way it's currently written partially sounds like YMMV anyway. Whichever the decision will be, I'm open to more discussions if needed, of course.

Nombretomato: Nice, thank you! But what does DTH mean?

I have a request for Moral Guardians, for the Newspaper comments section:

  • Early Bloom County stories parodied (and mocked) guys like this with Otis Oracle, a caricature of right-wing extremists. Otis was the Miles Gloriosus of such folks, holding book-burning parties (he had to buy the "objectionable" material himself in order to burn them) and the banning of The Roger Tory Peterson Guide to Penguins due to its portrayal of penguins in cohabitation. (His case fell apart in court when his "expert witness" claimed the Earth wasn't round.) He was a hypocrite too; in one strip touching a young lady's knees while clearly drunk, then blaming the lady for tempting "the inner demons of sin in men" (this got him little but a fat lip) and woke up drunk and naked at a New Year's eve party. He was one of many characters eventually written out of the strip around 1984.

Can Recurring Gag be a redirect to Running Gag? There are already a few wicks to Recurring Gag, and Recurring Joke Joke (already a redirect) has some inbounds to it.

If not, I can clean up the wicks to it. Just asking here before doing that.

A site search for "recurring gag" gives Running Gag as the first result. No need for that redirect.
