Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

     Previous Post
Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Hey ACW, I looked over my write up for Wilde and I might have said in there "corpses of dozens of children, if not more". I might have exaggerated the body count. It was still a lot about a dozen children, I just what to tell you that so when you look over the write you can make that correction.

Even with that said Wilde still counts right?

Yes to the Prince of Hell.

And oh look, another unapproved entry. On YMMV.The Huntsman Winters War:

  • Complete Monster: As if the last movie didn't tip you off to this, Ravenna goes soaring over the line when it's revealed that not only is she constantly working to undermine Freya, she also murdered her newborn child and framed Freya's lover for it, once again because of her obsession with being the fairest of them all.

I know enough about Ravenna to know she doesn't count.

Why so serious?

  • G-Editor: Yeah, he easily still counts. Let's just say "corpses of numerous children".
  • DDD: To the Drafts page please.
  • Easy [tup] Vassago. How's the current writeup (besides being spoiler-heavy)?
    • PoH (real name: Vassago Cassals) is an Axe-Crazy maniac who only lives to kill out of spite and sadism. Freudian Excuse aside, he establishes the red player guild Laughing Coffin and hires Serial Killers like XaXa and Johnny Black for the sole purpose of watching East Asians killing each other and gets away with it, even after betraying the aforementioned guild. He's also responsible for turning Kuradeel into a Player Killer in an attempt to get rid of Godfrey and Kirito (though Kuradeel failed to finish off the latter). His influence is so great, even his said Co-Dragons resume their Player Killing spree in GGO. By the time he returns in the Alicization arc as one of Gabriel's GDS operators, the first he did upon logging into UW is to beat up Kirito (who is still in an Angst Coma that time), followed by attempting to kill the heroes, starting with Tiese. After Kirito wakes up, PoH shamelessly gloats his "scheduled scenario" in front of the latter: breaking Kirito by chopping his limbs off before giving Asuna a Cold-Blooded Torture. He even had the nerve to tell Kirito to give him a "warrior's death" with the intent of killing both Kirito and Asuna in the RW as Revenge for his defeat once he gets kicked out from the system. He's such a psycho, even Kirito is royally disgusted by his overall actions and decides to imprison him in a tree instead.

Also, about 24 hours until I swap the Webcomic stuff (Webcomic CM Cleanup); I've created a folder with the deleted items and put it at the Drafts page, in case anyone wants to read those. I've also added this tweaked Dr. Max entry (also at the YMMV page):
  • Dr. Max is a sociopathic robotics expert obsessed with creating the ultimate machine. To this end, Max manipulates a powerful businessman, Mr. Ellison, to fund his creations, whom he regularly uses to murder weak superheroes and sidekicks, and brutally murders Ellison in front of the man's daughter when he outlives his usefulness. Using his powerful robots for various purposes, from massacring his entire lab staff, to ordering them to lay waste to a highly-populated city as a test run, Max eventually implants his mind in a robot body, and uses his new strength to sadistically duel with numerous heroes, drawing out their pain for his own entertainment. After trying to murder an innocent woman, Max plans to absorb the comatose superhero Darkslug's cells into his own body, hoping to make himself the most powerful being in existence and finish his research. Though a minor villain when compared to the likes of Metheos or Iblis, Dr. Max stands out as a truly depraved lunatic who is willing to wipe out hundreds of people and kill any of his partners for minor reasons, all to quench his obsession with perfecting his research.

[up] That sounds fantastic, and just as I have found another candidate as I am already halfway through S2 of Ripper Street. I'll shall do this effort post now before I go to bed. Now, with a further a due from season 2's episode 4 "Dynamite and the Woman" here is Dr. Charles Broadwick.

Who Is He? What Has He Done

Dr. Charles Broadwick is a scientist studying the field of electricity who wants everyone in London to believe that direct current is far safer superior to alternative current (It really isn't, the reverse actually, but I don't want to get into any details on the science). In truth, However he is little more than a fraud who not only is aware that the reverse, but plans to have the entire London use direct currents completely uncaring of the injuries and deaths this could bring so long as he makes a profit out of it.

In an effort to make sure the public doesn't know that Alternate Current are safer and superior, he kills police officer transporting a Mad Bomber named Aiden Galvin and frees Galvin just so he could use him for his plans. His plans include having Galvin plant a bomb at one of his colleagues room all while framing the Irish Republican Brotherhood for this incident, so no attention his given to him or Galvin. It temporary work with until Detective Reid for discovers this truth

Not only that but also an incident where Broadwick collaborated with Galvin a couple years ago where he had a dozen thats 12 innocent people killed just so Broadwick could test his bombs, all while double crossing Galvin and binning all the blame to him. The only reason why Galvin agreed to help Broadwick once more is because the latter promised him and his daughter Evie two tickets to leave London.

The final part of Broadwick's plan was to place a bomb in a Whitechapel University containing much more than a dozen people, some being London's Elitist so he can kill all of his colleges in one place. Thus, he would bury the truth about direct currents, have said currents set up in London, and make a fortune out of this, at the expense at London's citizens dying from his current, if it weren't for Reid being a Spanner In His Works.

Freudian Excuse

None. The only that he once worked with Aiden in killing Twelve people cause many others injuries.

Redeeming Qualities

None.

Unlike Aiden who has his love for his daughter Evie, Broadwick only cares about himself. While Broadwick may wrote letters to Evie claiming to be his real father it was simply to manipulate her into supporting him and as a way to have leverage against Aiden and when she doesn't buy it, though for whatever reason keeps them in her draws, he stops writing letters to her.

When Aiden finds this out and confronts Broadwick about, the latter threatens him and his daughter death if he doesn't collaborate. Hell, the only reason why Broadwick gives them tickets to New York the first place is so that he could eliminate them as persons of interests to the detectives.

When Reid tries to arrest Broadwick, the latter electrocutes himself to death not because he has remorse for his crimes but, because he doesn't want to face justice for any of his crime.

Heinousness?

He already has 12 people under his belt then increases it to 14 with the police officer and college and if his plans succeed he would have claim the lives of 12+ more people, plus the people who would suffer from his direct currents Which would be all of London. So I say he is up there with the others.

Final Verdict

I think of him as an [tup]. What about you guys?

[tup] to the Prince of Hell and Broadwick.

Now onto Kirean's entry.

  • Scream: TV Series: Ghostface from season two ( Kieran Wilcox) maintained a facade of being a friendly albeit troubled teenager, and loving boyfriend to Emma, but is in fact a needlessly cruel and brutal killer and the accomplice from back in season one. As Piper's accomplice, Kieran is personally responsible for killing Audrey's girlfriend Rachel, putting Will in a death trap for Emma to trigger, and the torture and death trap of Sheriff Hudson ( his own father). In season two, Ghostface torments both Emma and Audrey for her connection to Piper; begins his new killing spree by bisecting Jake with a scythe, before dropping his mangled corpse in front of his girlfriend Brooke; hacks off Branson's hand, burning the stub with an iron, before leaving him to burn to death; kills two cops for getting in his way; kills his other girlfriend [[spoiler: Hayley; plays a sick torture on Noah and Zoe, burying them both alive while Emma and Audrey struggle to rescue them, only to reveal he already drowned Zoe; frames Emma and Audrey with Mayor Maddox's murder. In the finale, upon being exposed, Kieran reveals he and Piper had a bond bases solely around their hate for their parents and the fun of killing. It's also revealed he's be framing and bullying his cousin Eli since childhood, before coldly gunning him down. His ultimate goal was to make Emma and Audrey scapegoats for his murders, while he takes the glory of being a hero.

Damn, the votes for Latif skyrocketed. O__o

All right then, here's the write-up for him and Tahir.

  • Strike Back: While most of the villains in the series have loved ones or some form of honor, these two stand out from the rest in their depravity.

    • Tahir is the leader of a group of Janjaweed rebels who Rape, Pillage, and Burn as they please, and they also kidnap children in hopes of raising them to be soldiers. After Tahir's rebels kidnap Dr. Clare Somersby, the daughter of Gerald Crawford, and her entourage, Tahir guns down Clare's fiancĂ©, deeming him invaluable. When Tahir agrees to give Clare back to her father in exchange for the weapons he promised him, Tahir responds by cutting off her right ear upon discovering that Crawford is still short on the weapons. He brings Clare back to his camp and spends his time tormenting her; he dares her to dig through a mass grave in order to find her fiancĂ©'s body, and later tries to seduce her, all while his soldiers are getting ready to gang-rape Clare's friend. After Stonebridge and Crawford storm Tahir's camp and rescue Clare, he gathers what soldiers he has left to try and hunt them all down.
    • Latif, a Pakistani terrorist leader, is the mastermind behind "Project Dawn" who aims to strike back at the West. After kidnapping and executing John Porter, Latif poses as a Pakistani intelligence officer so he can assist Section 20. He also sends a group of terrorists to storm a hotel in hopes of finding a scientist named Mahmood, and dozens are killed in the chaos. After the crisis is resolved, Latif reveals himself to Mahmood and proceeds to interrogate and kill her. With the assistance of several mercenaries, Latif uses the intelligence he gained from Mahmood to find hidden caches of VX nerve gas around the world. He then conspires with drug and arms dealer Fatmir Hasani to construct an organ farm so his doctor, Irina Mullova, will have plenty of candidates to aid him with his plans. Once Latif acquires the location of the final nerve gas cache from Joseph Allen, he immediately has Allen killed, shortly before having Fatmir killed as well for taking a risk that nearly exposed him to Section 20. With Mullova's help, Latif plants the nerve gas within two suicide bombers so they can attack a World Summit. Latif murders Mullova after her work is done, lures his men to Section 20 where they kill most of their personnel, and then kidnaps Colonel Grant and Pakistani presidential candidate General Akmal Ramiz. Furious over their knowledge in Trojan Horse, Latif demands that they confess to the operation on camera, or he'll set off one of the two bombs. He murders Ramiz after he refuses, but Grant complies. Even after she confesses, Latif activates the bomb anyway in hopes of killing thousands.

Also it's on the Drafts page, ACW.
