Darth Wiki / MSF High Forum

MSF High's defunct forum game (which could be found here) had been going on for many years, enough that it began to gain quite a few tropes unique to it, with many characters. As such, it's necessary to go over them, but having them on the main page would be a bit non-intuitive. This is a page for them.

Note that the forum IRC channels now have their own page, available here.

The contents of this article should be considered non-canon to MSF High as a whole, and do not represent it or its current community, but out of respect will be left intact.)

The forum roleplay was re-started and were playtest grounds for Wraith's tabletop RPG, rules for which you may find here. Tropes for the archived Roleplay is re-located to 'The Old Forum' folder, while tropes for the playtest would be located in 'Playtest' folder.

Funny

• In the Legion IRC Roleplay, Jax's character, Lira, caused a bunch of gremlins to see her, and run screaming as a brick joke. How? She'd threatened them previously!
• The tropes page entry: Never Live It Down: A lot of people would like you to know the Legion once committed genocide in the name of love and tried to convert the rest of the galaxy.
• Apostate does not have a particularly redoubt social intelligence, but she understands tact to some extent. Unfortunately, she understands it well enough to look up and wave at it as she walks around it.
• Uratino is made of these...
• Yosah's speech while he makes origami:

  Yosah: I WILL DEFEAT YOU ORIGAMI. OH YES, YOUR DEFEAT WILL BE LIKE A FINE STEAK GRILLED TO THE PERFECTION, WITH THE MIDDLE STILL RED AND BLOODY. YOUR SADNESS WILL BE LIKE A FINELY BREWED ICE TEA THAT ACCOMPANIES IT ALONG WITH A BASKET OF BUTTERED ROLLS THAT THE WAITRESS BRINGS TO ME AND KEEPS REFILLING EVERYTIME I EAT THEM ALL. Heartwarming

• Destiny initially mistook Seram and Yami as younger versions of her mother and father, having thought she'd get a chance to steer them down a gentler path, she tried her best to fit into their family. However later on she found out that they weren't really related to her and was practically heartbroken. So Seram and Yami practically took her in as their adoptive daughter.
  • Somebody add a strikethrough to 'practically took her in'. Just 'took her in'.
• Pretty much any given moment with Drake and Lily. This is especially heartwarming since they haven't actually had an official Relationship Upgrade yet.
  • As of now, they have! And it was as heartwarming as any other moment with these two.
• Uratino is made of these...
• Adrian trying and failing to make a little origami replica of Ren, the first real friend she made at MSF High. The really heartwarming part came when Ren saw this, and gave her the plushie of himself that he happened to have. Needless to say, she hasn't let go of it.
• After Casey finding out The way Delwyn died, she quickly declared that any god that would kill someone just for their choice in their love is not with worth worshiping....and that before the week is out she'd find Delwyn a boyfriend.

Playtest

• Put on a Bus: Shortly after the game actually began... a lot of players has left the game until further notice, prompting their characters to be sent to the special classroom.

The Old Forum

• Aborted Arc: Any time a GM quits, or a character with significant plot lines leaves.
• Abusive Parents: Destiny's mom wanted to possess her daughter to avoid growing old and dieing, she killed destiny's father to do this followed by being killed herself along with Destiny.
  • And that's not getting into Casey's folks....
• Academy of Adventure
• Actual Pacifist: Both Alexis and Arella. (Or anyone else who has the pacifist disadvantage.) Kazina, an older poster, was a Technical Pacifist.
• A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Apostate. Apostate's a crap shoot, too.
• All There in the Manual: Besides the same issues with MSF High proper, many characters have extensive backgrounds written up, or plotted up, that simply have not been publicly released. In addition, a few times, private roleplays have been used to save time on certain actions between NPCS...and these roleplays have not been released.
  • And then there's how Michelle got turned into a catgirl...
• Alternate Continuity: The IRC channels are another place to role-play with one's characters, and things often go in a completely different direction than on the forum itself. Certain notable examples: Jax has the memory of his old life back, Robin is a Legion, Karn is actually a nice guy, and don't get us started on Demona...
• And Call Him "George": Mentioned by the Sphinx who finds Adrian cute, who quotes dialogue from the Looney Tunes version.
• Angrish: See Berserk Button.
  • The Librarian also got the border of this, but it was instead represented by Shatner speech.
  • There was also one incident where a player was talking with Mitch, and his internet connection failed. It didn't return until several minutes later, at which time he proceeded to let loose with several pages worth of this. His furious typing actually damaged the keyboard. Mitch found it to be epic.
    • And then it cut out again a moment later.
• An Arm and a Leg: Fable lost her left arm while summoning a large creature of the void to save her coven.
• Artificial Limbs: Fable was given an artificial arm by Yosah on her first day. Israfel has a false arm since Seram keeps his real one.
• Ascended Fanboy: Matoi Nanashi, a massive fan of Super Sentai and Kamen Rider is shaping up to be this. He even has gained a pair of boots that allow him to perform a Rider Kick (though none of his attempts at using it on someone have succeeded so far).
• Ascended Meme: Firewood was originally an insult, used by Kirso to refer to the ironically non-flammable Legion. Mitchell, amused by it, had it incorporated as an official racial slur. (And, like all racial slurs, mostly inaccurate).
• Attack Drone: Orchid uses these primarily. Beamspam as well, a mecha kitsune with 9 tail funnels.
• Author Appeal: given the nature of the game, pretty easy to invoke...
  • Grave seems to have a thing for mecha and amazon brigades, for example...
• Awesome, yet Impractical: Lily loves this. Her weapon of choice is a pair of daggers made from two of her own bones! Simply drawing them (out of her wrists, no less) hurts her.
• Badass Bookworm: Jon, sort of. He's not quite badass yet, but he's studying to be a mage... And he has the bookworm part down pat (he has a bookshelf which spans an entire wall of his dorm room).
• Badass Normal: Gavin. Unable to cast magic, can't swim, and while many others use various fantasy weapons(or ARE one), he just has an old, beat-up shotgun.
• Beam Spam: A recent opponent at the arena for Orchid and Seishan was a kitsune mecha with tails that doubled as funnels. Also doubles as Fun with Acronyms as her name spells Beamspam... Beam. Experimental. Armored. Mecha. Special. Particle. Assult. Model.
• Belligerent Sexual Tension: Jax and Destiny, most notably.
• Berserk Button:
  • NEVER refer to Sentai as Power Rangers to Matoi.
  • Do not hug Dracon. He doesn't need a hug. He needs you to stay far away.
  • Former NPC/Arena operator Grift despised ANY form of transformation. At all. Period.
• Better to Die than Be Killed: Apostate's also got a healthy dose of this from her Start of Darkness.
• BFS: Sam wields one of these. A large claymore to be specific. So does Mercurius.
• Bland-Name Product: Playlegion for Playboy.
• Blatant Lies: The only way Israfel is able to, due to using Social as his dump-stat. Also, the Bad Liar disadvantage can cause this.
• Blood Knight: Yosah, Dracon, and Karn fall into this trope very well. They really don't need any reason to throw themselves at whatever unlucky opponent comes around. Dracon tries to rationalize this with honor, but mostly he just wants to fight.
• Boring Yet Practical: Drake prefers this. How does he fight? With his fists. How does he keep his hair? Short. How does he dress? Simply.
• Bribing Your Way to Victory: Reward Points may be seen this way, as they allow characters to take certain advantages, and unlock specialized races and facets (classes). The easiest way to get them? Donating money to Wraith.
  • Partially averted, however, as one can also get Reward Points by creating fanworks.
• Brick Joke: Mitchell LOVES these. For instance, he introduced an NPC, who appeared to be motivated solely by the promise of cake. (Having played too much Portal) a couple of YEARS later the NPC reappeared...holding a cake. This was planned from the start.
• Bright Slap: Michelle did this to Zero once, followed by a speech about how Zero had the worst elements of boys and girls. Namely being overly prideful and overly emotional.
  • During a Non-canon Halloween rp, Matoi brightslaped someone to introduce who he was dressed as, Bright Noa
• Cain and Abel: Mel'lon and Rich.
• Catchphrase: Apostate has "Toodles".
• Catchphrase: Hi, I'm Swade, I'm on a neverending quest to hug all the Legion and make Lana the runner mine. Plays with all the catchphrase tropes.
  • A more straight one is Psyche, Arella's player, who uses the phrase "Love and Tentacles."
  • Henry also does this to an extent, with his exclamation of "Christ on a bike!"
  • Oh, and Mitchell the player has "character smiles", his favorite emotion.
• Cat Girl: Michelle is this crossed with Legion, Jess and Mira however are full Cat Girls though. Justin Mclish on the other hand is a cat boy.
  • Don't forget Neko, the nine-year-old kitten-girl. Pure evil, in much the same sense as GIR.
• Cement Shoes: The cause of Matoi's death.
• Characterization Marches On: Israfel, especially, has changed in character since his first post, and his last one. This isn't true Character Development, though he's had quite a bit of that, as it's just the 'I've always been like this' thing. Especially after he shifted to PC, he became much more Stoic, and more of a Straight Man.
• Char Clone: Lila leans towards being The Rival type, but is also a rare female example.
• Class Trip: At the end of every week there is a field trip usually. Which amounts to a large scale adventure.
  • If there is not a field trip, there is still a large-scale adventure.
• Clingy Jealous Girl: Joni to Swade. Also Jess to... everyone, really.
• Continuity Reboot: In 2014, the GMs realized that the current gameplay system was hopelessly unbalanced and broken beyond repair. Thus, the entire RP was rebooted, and the rules redone to match the revised version of the ruleset for the tabletop RPG. Many old characters have been re-statted for the new system, but many players have elected to simply make new characters instead. See also Time Skip.
• Cuddle Bug: Mitchell. Michelle, sometimes. Jess Necano, definitely, tied in with the above trope. Also, Lily, the amnesiac mini-succubus.
• Cursed with Awesome: Jax's player, Adam (often called Jax or Man Behind A Different Curtain), is a Insomniac and will often goes days if not weeks awake, unable to sleep. This has given him a LOT of time to develop often praised writing skill, but he doesn't have much to do at night, and is often left bored and alone, looking up at the ceiling of his room.
• Cuteness Proximity: Apostate caused this reaction in the soulless undead known as Rich, while Adrian caused this in a Sphinx. Demona has this reaction to almost everything.
• Dark Magical Girl: Kiana. Her rival, however, is a straight-Magical girl, who's Wrong Genre Savvy. Said rival, however, is a One-Scene Wonder.
• Deadpan Snarker: Miranda by a mile.
• Defector from Decadence: (combined with Heel Face Turn) Casey's 'parents' are frequently mentioned as supervillians. Casey is looking forward to becoming a Super heroine and beating them and their allies down.
• Depraved Bisexual: Played with and Averted. Seram is, like a certain character from Dragon Age, both depraved and bisexual. However, there's not a real relation, and she retains her bisexuality after her Heel–Face Turn. Michelle, meanwhile, completely averts it.
• Dysfunction Junction: Par for the course.
  • Really, a little bit of insanity is practically required for the characters here.
  • As Mitchell once put it: "You're talking about a school where you get to meet a catgirl maidslave, an evil pet catgirl who eats plant-people, a vampire who fights werewolves, a pacifist angel-girl, a evil demon-chick who used to be a nun, an angel who wants to kill demons by becoming a demon-lord, a farmboy soldier who's dating a Legion Queen, a Legion Queen who used to be a foxgirl, the first Legion EVER, multiple animated suits of armor/giant battlemechs, a Chibi possessed by a spirit of murder, an Eldritch Abomination trapped in the form of a cute girl with no face, a Lizard-man who tends to explode, and a bisexual catgirl with partial amnesia and a lust for Anime....And I didn't touch the staff!
  • Any characters who are not insane, will quickly have that corrected. Also: " So we now have a cowering divine, a nonStealthy stealthing Kitsune, an imposing knight, a sighing robot and confused divine, add two questionable stable legion girls. Shake well:"
• Elegant Gothic Lolita: Casey's usual style of dress
• Emergency Transformation: Too many examples to list. The Nurse's Office is the main cause of this. Often subverted, as the office has used it for non-dangerous transformations.
• Empathic Weapon: Berlioz has one in Supplice.
• Epic Fail: A round of combat that took three to four days to roll, where nobody hit anybody, with eight combatants? This qualifies.
• Even the Guys Want Him: Ash. We are not allowed to say more.
• Even the Guys Want Him / Even the Girls Want Her: Jax. We don't need to say anymore.
• Evil Twin: Michelle has one, she's a hermit who lives out in the forest. She typically covers herself in bandages though, making it difficult to tell.
• Expansion Pack Past: Israfel and Seram definitely qualify, along with Rei. Less common now, but the backgrounds for a few chars were pretty light. Thus, any information came across as this.
  • Jax's story is slowly unfolding, starting with a movie about a girl...
  • Almost inevitable as characters, who are (ostensibly) full-fledged people enter the game with a few paragraphs describing the character and his or her past.
  • Also, in a few cases of cases (Daniel/Danielle, Zade), the character's homeworld is so heavily fleshed out that the character almost seems to be the backdrop to the homeworld, rather than the other way around.
    • Danielle's home country is loosely based on Vox Libertatem, her creator MBTC's Nation State.
• Expy: Word of Player, Casey comes from a world of super hero and super villain expies. Casey herself intends on becoming one of Cutey Honey.
  • Jax is also a completely unintentional expy of Ranma, and Tenchi, and several other well known 'middle of the harem' anime characters...
    • Only Jax might end up with the marrying them all.
  • Attention everyone! She's here, she's nice, she's friendly...she's a rotten kind of cute, give it up, for the ZOMBIE ENJO KOSAI. Inspired by the song Zombie Prostitute, by Voltaire.
  • Nurse Ottoshanti is an expy of Shantotto from FFXI.
  • Neko was inspired by her player's cat, with a little bit of Gir (Invader Zim) thrown in.
  • Apostate is very explicitly an expy of Durandal from Marathon.
  • Aresu has become an Expy of Keiri.
  • Shiron is an expy of the character Steffan Tommas from the game One Must Fall: 2097.
  • Sony and his world is a obvious Expy of Skies of Arcadia and he specificly is a combination of Vyse and Gilder.
  • Smash is an expy of none other than Thunk. if a Distaff Counterpart. Also a Flanderization of general Orc traits. In fact, she's played as if she is mentally retarded.
  • Roe is a shoutout of Doc Roe, to some degree. Her insanity and Hair-Trigger Temper have kind of clouded this.Also a shoutout to Tank Dempsey due said temper.
    • Nika is both a Shoutout (See below) and Expy of Nikolai Belinski. Again, obvious.
• Face–Heel Turn: The biggest example would be Gestell, due to his split personality issues, being revealed as the villain of one arc. It's not The Mole, as he had shifted away from hanging out with the players, and did not sabatoge their efforts using this.
• Fantastic Racism: Legion get this, a lot. GAN get this sometimes, and the AP tend to have this against everyone. Arachnae, a never-used race, were Legion who were racist against Legion.
• Farm Boy: Sam has this in his orgin combined with soldier.
• Fearless Undead: Leanne the Chibi Vampire. Apparently, undeath keeps the worst of her [[illgirl health issues]] at bay, the reason being that it means her most of her flawed organs don't need to work at all.
• The Fettered: Israfel, due to his code of honor. This is on purpose, to make up for an attempt to become the Ubermensch.
• Follow the Leader: The player cnaltman62 has had a long-standing habit of placing health bars for his characters in his signature, using the character "█" in different colors. After the Continuity Reboot, other players have begun to pick up this habit as well.
• Free-Range Children: Neko. So, very much. Played perfectly straight, too, without any playing with the trope whatsoever.
• Freudian Trio: Andrew had a mental version of this earler on, with the other two personalities even being called the ID and super ego. ID was a legion girl, where as super ego was a gruff military Sargent. Zero had something similar, with her super ego being Zero tolerance, a psychopathic madman, and zero empathy, who was the ID. Later crab grass was added in, after her time in the legion. She eventually got rid of them all.
• Game Master: Curent GM's include Mitchel as head GM, with Kain Telsa, Mal, Ilushia, Grave and Neimad as supporting GM's. Xiao and Yosah are on backup duty. Past GM's include Kiana, Prophet, Kuda, Pep and Spiral.
  • Prophet recently returned, however.
• Genius Ditz: Fable has extensive medical knowledge and is an adequate herbologist, but she can have her duh moments, if her attempt to cure Kain of his fear of toasters is a sign...
• Goodis Not Nice: Dejan is from a rough place. It shows.
  • Dejan is Good?
• Hair-Trigger Temper: Certain GMs. See Berserk Button, above.
  • Roe and Nika are two Legion examples of this, Nika more then Roe.
• Hand Wave: One character, seldom used, is the Grim Mod, who exists solely to handwave continuity errors. For instance, when the restrooms were retconned as having a forcefield, the Grim Mod posted, and patched those force fields.
• Happiness in Slavery: Jess's 'model line' was an attempt to invoke this trope. Didn't work quite well. Also examined, in her origin story.
• Hates Being Touched: Dracon has a tenancy to react violently to any more physical contact than a short handshake.
  • 64bit was a fairy who'd yell rape if she was touched. Also an Overly Long Gag, a Shout-Out gone too far, and a bit of Old Shame...
• Heel–Face Turn: Has occurred to a couple of characters. Most prominent would be Seram and Israfel, too villainous NPCs who were shifted to PCs. The current HeadGm, Mitchell, is of the opinion that everyone who goes to MSF High should be redeemable. Thus, his villain's arcs tend to end with them being redeemed.
• Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Seram skirts this trope, as she is currently heroic, but was actually designed as a mild sociopath, or at least without empathy.
• I Call It "Vera": Jax (Player) tends to call his laptop 'Brick'
• Ice Queen: Miranda loves to invoke this trope.
• Idiot Hero: Drake was designed to subvert this trope; he's a Wide-Eyed Idealist who puts Honor Before Reason, but he can also fight with logic (or more often, semantics), should the need arise.
• I Know Mortal Kombat : The Explaination of Matoi's swordsmanship skills
• I'm a Humanitarian: Zade.
• Implausible Deniability: There is no Happy Fun Room.
• Improbable Weapon User: Artists use paintbrushes and the like as weapons.
• I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: Demona's reaction to Moe Squirrel-Zero, almost word-for-word.
  • She has also done this to Lily, who is now begging for death.
  • Inverted For Casey. She Went Home With Ryan.
• Informed Ability: Uratino, in a sense. He is described as being ridiculously cute, but all art of the character fails to do him justice.
  • He also does actions 'cutely' without an explanation.
• Innocent Fanservice Girl: And boys too:
  • Jax.
  • Too many examples to list, really. See also Take Our Word for It.
• Jackass Genie: Averted with Marius, who genuinely wants his master to be happy.
• Japanese Media Tropes: The setting practically runs on them.
• Jerkass: Vaeden and Richtiss could be this most of the time.
• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Yosah is mostly one of these, he's a jerk most of the time. But he has his Pet the Dog moments.
  • Vaedan and Richtiss also might qualify.
• Jerk With A Heartof Jerk: Unless Vaedan and Richtiss fit here.
  • Karn fits here hands down. He has a spirit of murder as a MORALITY PET!
  • Shiron, his rival, skirts it.
  • Dracon tends to fall here.
• Karma Houdini: A few villains and absolute horrors have found their way into the student registry, though presumably there's something heroic hoising them up.
  • Yami committed genocide because his girlfriend broke up with him.
  • When Apostate's player was asked to codify the specific acts that were a part of her Start of Darkness, the number of acts that would be considered either war crimes or crimes against humanity reached a total count of 23,284. This doesn't include the "lesser felonies" and other acts that would be considered "normal acts of war".
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist Iqbal also qualifies.
  • Averted with Casey. In addition to feeling nothing but guilt over her past, she has the Damage Magnet disadvantage for karmic reason
• Keet: Uratino purposely invokes this.
• Killer Gamemaster: Malhavoc. This GM grew up playing and running such wondrous titles as Dark Heresy, The World Of Darkness, and Call Of Cthulhu. Shoving him into a happy and merry game like this usually ends in tears abound, and large amounts of viscera splattered all over the walls... he's getting better though.
  • Prophet has shades of this, if past arena fights are any indication.
• Knight in Shining Armor: Albert
• Knight in Sour Armor: Dejan
• Knight Templar: Israfel would like to say that he's very sorry for his early behavior.
• Large Ham: Large Ham's are unable to keep from physically displaying their emotions more obviously than is realistic. Sometimes funny, always goofy and never far from a pun. Hrothulf is a Large Ham more often than not (Have you seen him? He's HUGE!).
• Leanne's design was inspired by Flandre Scarlet from Touhou Project. She also has a spell involving danmaku as well.
• Love Freak: Arella. Full stop. Working on becoming a Messianic Archetype. Interestingly, her player does not read this wiki, and did not realize what she did. Arella does avert the ineffective and hypocritical parts, however.
  • It's to the extent that certain members of the forum have taken to referring to this trope as simply "The Arella."
  • Casey even has a disadavantage honor bound: Love freak....
• MacGyvering: On the first field trip, Uratino was able to convert a shielding device into a rail-gun.
• Mad Scientist: Matoi and Zero
• Magitek: Quite a lot of things, actually.
  • Fable's artificial arm is a recent example.
• Marshmallow Hell: Jax is a frequent victim of this trope, not that others are particularly immune, he just has the high score.
• Martial Pacifist: Zade avoids fights like a pacifist. It's more because he doesn't like the risk than because he doesn't believe in killing.
• The Matchmaker: Casey often tries to be this, though she has yet to pair a couple. (She's not above taking credit for couples that do get together naturally though.)
• Meet Cute: Jess is a Runner (technically an Informed Ability, as she has yet to actually do any Running), and deliberately tries to invoke this. Subverted, however, since her two main love interests (Henry and Robin) were not met in this manner.
• Miko: Jax was one of these before he died.
• Monster Clown: Oliver when he was clownfied by Silnak the Jester. Of course, Silnak also qualifies.
• Most Definitely Not a Villain: Xadan, an evil AI, falls under this big time.
• Mugging the Monster: This can happen if a PC decides to attack someone who's higher level, or happens to have lots of advantages. Especially prominant before the rules revamps.
• Mundane Made Awesome: Yosah makes origami.
• Named Weapons: Bloodmoon, Wastelander, Machbreaker, quite a few students have named weapons.
• Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Nice Job Breaking Her Antihero: Karn's jerkass behavior broke Aresu. Before, she was a kindhearted (if occasionally mischievous) nurse. Now, she's pretty much Keiri.
• Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Zombots, half zombie, half robot. Rich, meanwhile, is a cybernetic lich. So he's a Zombie Robot mage.
• Noble Demon: Iqbal So'Shek
• Noodle Incident:
  • Norp once tried to discuss garbage rights with Althea. In the words of the police chief himself. "I once had an...incident with Althea. I still have nightmares. What she can do with a whip violates the laws of physics. And human decency. Never will I discuss garbage rights with her again."
  • And like all good Noodle incidents, nobody knows what really happened, even Mitchell.
  • We now some new ones: one involving Michelle and a fairground carousel, and one that has been referred to as simply "the Catpocalypse."
• Not Distracted by the Sexy: Iqbal. He's happily married with ten children back home.
• Number of the Beast: Jax was the 666th person to register on the forum.
• Obfuscating Stupidity: Uratino is quite smart, but he pretends naivete, for the purpose of seeming even cuter.
• Obviously Evil: Rich, the owner of the magic shop in the mall.
• One-Man Army: Oliver tried to be this in his backstory. Needless to say, he succumbed to an explosive.
• One-Steve Limit: Mostly played-straight, but it comes close to being averted, with similarly-named characters Drake and Dracon (both of whom are dragons), Dragon (who is not actually a dragon), and Darius Drake (who is also not a dragon).
• One True Threesome: Jess has successfully invoked this trope, although subverted as all is not happy in said threesome; Henry, one corner of the triangle, in particular wants to get Robin, the remaining corner, out of the picture.
• One-Winged Angel: Israfel became one of these for a brief period of time, when he revealed his original goal of becoming Lucifer.
• Only Sane Man: Again, Gavin. Iqbal /thinks/ he's this.
• Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping:
  • Just about any dwarf played by Mitchell, for one.
  • Also, Katriel, when she was 'playing' a pirate.
  • This happens to Roe a lot. Normal, Brooklyn, and German; a screwed up mind has caused this.
• Our Dragons Are Different: Both Dracon and Drake (no relation). They're more like human/dragon hybrids. Closer to the human side.
• Our Ghouls Are Creepier: Zade, of the demonic subtype, although Zade and his race of ghuls are not demons. They are Shapeshifting corpse eating Romani expys subject to severe cultural repression and even genocide.
• Our Werewolves Are Different: Alexis, justified though in that she's technically not a natural werewolf. Since she wears a cursed mask that is the source of her transformation.
• Overly Longname: Iqbal So'shek, Great King Ramses the XXIV, Prime Ruler Of All Abydos
• Perky Goth: Casey Again.
• Play-by-Post Games: The main style of the game.
• Poirot Speak: Simone, so very much. Averts Just a Stupid Accent, however. Simone can, and does, speak fluent real-french. What makes this hilarious is that she does this in off-topic conversations!

• Relationship Upgrade: Drake and Lily in the library.
• Retcon: Used quite a bit, to handle continuity errors and various issues.
• Retired Monster: Rich, however, quite probably qualifies as this. He's a lich, and doesn't seem to regret his actions. That said, there's a reason he is at MSF High.
• Robot Girl: Casey, though she came to MSF as a robot boy. Also Yuan.
• Roller Blade Good: Clothesline, who doesn't take them off. Sometimes uses a motorcycle.

• Rule of Funny: So damned much.
• Rules Lawyer: Neimad (Uratino's player) is sometimes referred to as "The Official Rules Lawyer." Basically, he's the guy you go to when you want to test a new race/class/spell or other rules change. This is specifically why he was brought on as a GM.
• Running Gag: All of Stitch's apothecary items are "Rigorously tested". As in they were all tested ONCE.
• Scary Impractical Armor: Destiny, it's even dark with skulls on it...
• Schmuck Bait: Deviling Hot Sauce, which has 17 million to 17 billion scoville units.
• Self-Deprecation: Mitchell is very fond of this. For instance, his character routinely hate each other, especially Israfel and Michelle.
• Self-Made Orphan: Destiny killed her mother, along with her self after watching her father die because of her.
  • Casey intends on becoming this when she deals with her parents
• Shapeshifting: Shape Shifters are a core choice of race. Zade, Orchid, Ryan and others have it by various means.
• Shirtless Scene:
  • Jax did this once, going without his sarashi. Destiny was... enamored, to say the least.
  • So did Drake, electing to not wear either his vest or shoes for the "Chanbara" Theme Day.
• Shout-Out: Quite a few. Legion Consorts, especially, can get them, seeing as they canonically like to cosplay. Recently, it's included the Dark Magician Girl, and Sarah Ericson from the White Chamber.
  • Matoi's/ Matsuri's usual manner of clothing is nothing but one massive cosplay session. So far he's dressed as Death, Tidus , Fate Liengod, and Jude Maverick
  • Danny once used an I am a man punch in gym class.
  • Henry's best friend who died prior to his own death is named Flynn Taggart, which is the name given to the unnamed marine in the Doom novels.
  • 64-bit is a fairy who can only say speak in single-word sentences, and tends to say "Hey!" quite a bit...just like Navi's audio track.
  • One of Prophet's Arena monsters is a massive bone golem that was basically a Super Mutant Behemoth.
  • Lenny, the octopus that lives at the very bottom of the pool, is an obvious reference to Of Mice and Men, especially considering Lenny's goal.

  • The recently added (and well hidden) Black Crates are not too far off from large, red chests that held all kinds of crazy gear.
  • Nika Belinseki is this; Nikolai is technically her father.

• Shown Their Work: Drake was rather excited to be eating potatoes with cheese. Why? Potatoes (not to mention good cheese) were quite expensive back in the Middle Ages.
• Single-Target Sexuality: Joni to Swade. See also Clingy Jealous Girl.
• Sinister Scythe: Yosah wields one of these.
• Situational Sexuality: With all the gender changes...it's a given.
• Strange Minds Think Alike:
  • Occured in MSFPD, when both Newt and the Legion Shrubbery, who cosplays as Sarah Ericson from the White Chamber, happened to have the same idea on how to handle a situation.
  • And again, with Fenris having the idea to buy Funland, just after someone else said they half expected her to own it. It's almost like the GMs take ideas from the players.
• Super Drowning Skills: Anyone with the landlubber disadvantage.
• Take Our Word for It: Many examples, often involving a character's backstory. Where justified, this is justified by the loss of prior identity. PCs are assumed to have lost some amount of memory and capability when they transfer to MSF High.
• Time Skip: The Continuity Reboot was handled as one of these. While the exact period of time is undefined, it is estimated to be around ten years. Returning characters have been "reincarnated," returned to the school with their capabilities reset, to do it again. Reasons vary depending on the character, and many of them have had their memories wiped (the biggest exception is Neko, who grew up during the Time Skip and is now an actual student at the school).
• Token Evil Teammate: Yosah, Vaedan, and Henry can all fulfill this. Seram, interestingly, has never really qualified.
• Tournament Arc: One is currently under progress, as an alternative to the field trip. Ren won, in an Anticlimax. The fight between him and Dejan may have been a Climax fight, however, and was directly responsible for rules changes.
• Troperiffic: And how! A single-person example is, oddly enough, Miranda. She's cold and snarky, speaks very eloquently, is not afraid to remind people of the vast fortune that she sits on back home, and is required by law, as a british character, to be a tea-nut.
• Tsundere: Destiny's lately been acting like one, specifically towards Jax. Time will tell if she remains this way.
• Tyke-Bomb: Iris was this back before she arrived.
• Übermensch:
  • Israfel wanted to be this, to an extent, but came closer to Nietzsche Wannabe. He considered the Angelic Protectorate the "Last Men", and had a plan similar to The Betrayer of Planescape Torment. Unintentionally, as the creator had not played Planescape at that time.
  • Given the interplay between her absolute self-interest and sense of ethics, Apostate may be put here. This breaks down slightly due to her harsh, self-depricating reactions to failure.
• The Unfettered: Seram, as a foil to Israfel. Unlike him, she's moved away from this trope.
• Unreliable Narrator: Why do people always assume NPCs are being honest about their past? Or even what goes on in school!
• Unwanted Harem: Jax is starting to gain one of these. And subverted with Jess, where it's totally wanted, and she is making an effort to get one, in fact.
  • Marry Them All: Casey (member of Jax's Harem) is pushing for this
• Weapon Specialization : From buster swords to a plain old spoon, Msf High offers a wide variety of weaponry to its students. In fact one of the first things an unarmed student is asked to do is purchase weapons and armor, and between Crazy Hobos, Malicious A.I.s, and Gym they're gonna need it.
  • Dracon wields two swords. Why? because it is awesome and represents his mastery over slashy things. Sub trope Cool Sword and Dual Wielding.
  • Roe's Rifle. Doubles as a Shoutout; Pack-a-Punched M1 Garand, now with a Gearsof War Lancer bayonet, ala Mitch.
• Webcomic Time: An hour in game usually equates anywhere between a week and a month real-time.
• Well-Intentioned Extremist: On his homeworld, Iqbal was rather...cruel with doling out punishments to criminals. Like Vlad the Impaler cruel. It worked.
• What Happened to the Mouse??: Any player who stops posting. Averted with a few of the early banned players, where an explanation was given, and with Sam and Rei, who were given a send-off. Most of the banned players are undergoing an apprenticeship, and Sam and Rei were teleported out of MSF High, apparently back to Rei's homeworld.
• When All You Have Is a Hammer…: This is the primary key to Iqbal's military doctrine. And primary source of stress relief.
• Wide-Eyed Idealist: Drake falls here, very hard. Though Good Is Not Dumb does also apply.
• With Great Power Comes Great Insanity:
  • It's happened, but listing the most obvious example here would be in bad taste.
  • Israfel would be rather embarrassed, considering he's trying to put it behind him.
• Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: Averted with Drake (who is from a Middle Ages-era world), due to this being one of his player's pet peeves. Drake's speech is very formal, however.
