"The Amazing Butthole, a superhero with a mysterious past and perplexing powers over flatulence. Ever-adaptable, they can choose different classes to modify their powers, and equip different artifacts to change their stats appropriately."

The New Kid in South Park, with the mysterious skill to make friends relatively quickly and farts that can mess with time, who ends up being part of the other kids' roleplaying games. Their past is a mystery, and their parents keep secrets from them. The games see them trying to climb the town's social circle and forge bonds with multiple kids, such as Butters. They are the main character in South Park: The Stick of Truth, South Park: The Fractured but Whole and South Park: Snow Day!.

    Tropes present in all games
  • The Ace: As far as whatever crazy escapades the kids are doing, the New Kid proves to be incredibly capable in solving everyone's problems, befriending people on social media, and kicking the asses of whatever weirdos they face, ranging from pissed off bums to actual monstrosities.
  • The Babyof The Bunch: The New Kid is canonically a year younger than the other fourth graders in South Park and often is treated as such even by Butters or Kenny, whom both often held this title in the show.
  • Badass Adorable: Despite the fact that they're a 10 year old child ostensibly playing pretend, over the course of the games, they do end up fighting actual monsters and saving the town.
  • Bag of Spilling: In The Fractured but Whole, the fact that Cartman declare that they're no longer playing fantasy and that they're playing Superheroes means the end of King Douchebag, forcing them to roll a new character just to join. In addition, everyone has started using Coonstagram instead over Facebook for social media, meaning they have to start their friends list from scratch. In Snow Day, it's stated that The New Kid repeatedly becoming OP in all the games is the reason they're forced to roll a new character and why the game now uses a Roguelite power-up system.
  • Canon Identifier: Officially, the protagonist is known as "The New Kid" throughout both games. More often than not, the kids tend to refer to them primarily by various stupid nicknames such as "Douchebag" or "Butthole".
  • Extreme Doormat: They never object to doing anything anyone asks of them, regardless of how weird or amoral.
  • Fartillery: All of the games have the New Kid utilizing their farts in both combat as well as puzzle solving. In The Fractured But Whole, it's revealed that this is caused by medication planted into their food to try and suppress their social media powers.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: Their ability to make friends on social media even extends to various antagonists, typically after beating the shit out of them.
  • Got Volunteered: Oftentimes they get sent to do the jobs that no one else will do because they're either the perfect person for the job or because they don't object.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: They were born with the uncanny ability to make friends on social media at a rapid rate. In a world populated by gullible morons, this makes them a powerful social media influencer capable of affecting the opinions of the masses just by posting pictures of them seemingly showing support for something. In The Fractured But Whole, it's revealed that their parents had similar, though weaker versions of this ability and were taken by the government and experimented on over it, believing that they could somehow harness it.
  • Heroic Mime: Parodied; The New Kid never speaks a single word, which coupled with their blank expression typically ends up confusing and aggravating the people around them. This also more or less leads to them getting forced to do various inane bullshit due to the fact that they never raise any objections.
Elf: He doesn't talk, Elf King! He thinks he's hot shit or something.

    Annie: ...He doesn't really talk.
    [beat]
    Bebe: That's hot.
  • It Amused Me: The primary reason the New Kid gets into the various misadventures is primarily because there's nothing else to do and your parents want the house for themselves.
  • Magnetic Hero: The Kid has a natural knack for making friends on social media, which is used as a way to measure progress. Turns out, this is actually a secret power they were born with.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Oh boy, where to start?
    • In the first game, they beat up the UFO pilots causing it to crash land and trigger the Zombie Apocalypse as well as catching the government's attention.
    • In the second game, by joining Cartman's superheroes games and doing his dirty work, they help him to cause more crime leading to Cartman taking over South Park.
    • Their action in the first game has also caused their parents to start arguing with each other.
    • At Night 4, to defeat mutant Cousin Kyle, they have to fart on him several times. This end up fast forward the time, allowed Cartman to becoming the Mayor.
  • The Scapegoat: With the New Kid's muteness and willingness to go along with other's plans, they usually get all the blame dumped on them when things go wrong as the kids are jerks who know they won't defend themselves.
  • The Stoic: Their default expression is a blank stare, though they do emote depending on the situation.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Generally will avoid killing their enemies whenever possible. Though they seem willing to make exceptions for any foes deemed too dangerous to leave alive.
  • Virtual Paper Doll: The New Kid is heavily customizable in both their appearance as well as their outfit. Stick of Truth even allowed you to go one step further by getting a cosmetic procedure that turned them into David Hasselhoff.
  • World's Best Warrior: One consistent part of their reputation the town of South Park mostly acknowledges is that New Kid is perhaps the town's most powerful fighter, as many of the tasks they get assigned usually involve having them go into combat situations that they confidently expect the New Kid to win. It's implied this is one of the few parts of the New Kid's reputation left intact even after the Fighters of Zaron game has been disbanded, as most people in South Park that know the New Kid do expect the New Kid to come out on top in most combat situations. Toolshed even tells Coon and Friends the only reason they kept winning their Civil War battles against Freedom Pals was because they have the New Kid on their side.

Tropes present in Stick of Truth

The New Kid/Douchebag/Dovahkiin

  • The Baby of the Bunch: Technically counts, as he's nine years old while all his party members are around 10.
  • Badass Normal: In the end, however, he's simply just a kid. All of the things he uses are mundane, if somewhat dangerous.
  • Bag of Spilling: Played with; they don't lose their skills between The Stick of Truth and The Fractured But Whole, but due to the Genre Shift, none of it matters and they end up playing a superhero game, though they convince Cartman to play with them by then, instead of being drafted into "Fighters of Zaron" without them getting a say in it.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: His only line of dialogue in The Stick of Truth is to use Cartman's "screw you guys, I'm going home" after all is said and done.
  • Canon Name: Before the Final Boss, Big Bad Government Guy refers to him as Dovahkiin.
  • Chick Magnet: Almost all of the girls (and Kenny) start showing very clear interest in him once they get recruited.
  • The Chosen One: Particularly as the LARP session becomes Serious Business.
  • Combat Pragmatist: By far the dirtiest fighter in the game, and that's saying something. Kicking opponents in the balls? Letting off fireworks in their face? Throwing excrement at them? Electrocuting them with a car battery and a bucket of water? It's all fair game to the New Kid.
  • The Comically Serious: He gets involved in plenty of batshit crazy situations with nary a change in his expression.
  • Cool Kid-and-Loser Friendship: The New Kid's friendship with Butters is essentially this, though gradually, he also befriends other 'loser' characters like Scott Malkinson throughout the game.
  • Destructive Savior: When someone gives him a task, there's a good chance a A LOT of property damage will occur in the process.
  • Dragged into Drag: Is forced to dress as a girl by Wendy's group in order to infiltrate the abortion clinic. If the New Kid has Butters at the party, he'll say he finds him attractive.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Potentially on the receiving end, retroactively and accidentally, as of Fractured But Whole. Bebe repeatedly flirts with the New Kid a few times, but the New Kid can identify as a girl in the sequel.
  • Elective Mute: His idle animation with Butters implies that he prefers to talk through texting instead of his voice.
  • Elemental Powers: If they choose to play as a Mage in The Stick of Truth, he can use three different elements total from his abilities.
  • Fan of Underdog: The fact that he's implied to see Butters as his best friend out of all his party members makes him this by default.
  • Fire, Ice, Lightning: Zigzagged with his ability pool as a Mage, where it is made of a Fire spell (Dragon's Breath), a non-elemental spell (Dust of Dreams), a Shock spell (Lightning Volt), a Frost Spell (Funnel of Frost) and another Fire Spell (Pyro Ball).
  • Friendly Enemy:
    • If the New Kid sides with Kyle and the Drow Elves, Butters will view him as this.
    • After Craig switches sides to join Clyde, he heavily implies that he views the New Kid as this, since not only does he not unfriend the New Kid like Clyde did, but he generally talks to the New Kid in a somewhat respectful manner and even at one point encourages the New Kid to side with Clyde.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: Has T and P tighty-whitey briefs in his underwear drawer.
  • Goth: Becomes one in order to recruit the goth kids. With his quiet nature and constant frown, he pulls it off very well.
  • Guile Hero: The one power he has that is stronger than his farts is his ability to make friends incredibly easily. He also prefers to take advantage of his surroundings to create traps to take out his enemies rather than fighting them head on.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Possibly with Butters, considering The New Kid only smiles when Butters uses his healing touch on him. It also helps that gameplay-wise, he's one of the most useful companions due to being a Combat Medic that also serves as a tank. It's even implied as much with his idle animation, as Butters is the only party member that verbally responds to the New Kid using his phone, and those are reactions to the New Kid texting or tweeting him, implying that Butters is the only party member the New Kid does this with. Changes to Platonic Life-Partners, Like Brother and Sister, or Ship Tease, retroactively, if the New Kid identifies as female in the sequel. He could also have this kind of relationship with Cartman, seeing how the latter's Adaptational Heroism brought him up to befriend the New Kid, who gives Cartman his loyalty and trust in return, something which is carried over to the sequel.
  • Hidden Depths: Even in the South Park universe, one wouldn't expect a nine-year-old kid to know how to perform abortions, though his shaky hands during the mini-game suggests he's had no formal training but knows how the procedure goes.
  • Horny Vikings: The Barbarian armor you can acquire from Canada is pretty much this. It even gives you a Berserker Rage buff.
  • Hordes from the East: The Khan armor you can buy from Kupa Keep.
  • An Ice Person: As a Mage, his Funnel of Frost can slow a row of enemies if perfectly executed.
  • I Know Madden Kombat: As a Fighter, he uses a baseball bat for Assault and Battery, which he uses to hit a ball and beat a foe down, and dons a football helmet in Bull Rush, where he charges the enemy head-on.
  • Informed Flaw: The New Kid's dad will occasionally comment that his son is "not as ugly" as he remembers him being. There are also a handful of NPCs that mock his "big, ugly nose" before recommending that he get cosmetic surgery. Then again, walking into Tom's Rhinoplasty will sometimes trigger a party member to mention that they hadn't really noticed that you even have a nose.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: The Sweet Katana sold by Jimbo is the strongest weapon in the game.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: As expected for the genre. Lampshaded a few times.
  • Multi-Melee Master: Basically, if it exists and can be used to attack, he can wield it. Up to and including alien probes, bar darts, dodgeballs, and crutches.
  • Nice Guy: He helped Butters, Annie, and Ike out of their respective binds without anyone telling him he had to.
  • Not So Stoic: He usually doesn't show much emotion, except when he's lit aflame, grossed out or freezing cold. There is exactly one specific action that will make the main character smile; when Butters uses his healing touch power. That said, he also seems pretty shocked when he witnesses Princess Kenny pull his Face–Heel Turn at the end of the story and when he gets abducted by aliens and finds himself getting probed.
  • One of the Boys: A rare gender-inverted example. After finishing the quest to recruit the girls, the girls now consider the New Kid to be an "Honorary Girl", giving him free rein in their clubhouse and access to their shop. He even gets invited to their next slumber party; whether or not the invitation was an accident is unknown.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: No matter what the player enters their name as, Cartman responds with "You entered 'Douchebag'. Is that correct?". From that point onward, he'll always be addressed by the boys as Douchebag.
  • Only Sane Man: Judging by his reaction at the very end of the game, he seems to be the only one to actually learn something from everything that happened. Though he ends up going through even worse things in The Fractured But Whole, not helped by the fact that the New Kid actually wants to play the boys' superhero game by convincing Cartman to let him join.
  • Pals with Jesus: On Facebook at least. Earns you an achievement if you're playing the Jew class.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Doesn't display any emotion except for a vacant frown.
  • Potty Failure: If you collect too much mana, this happens.
  • The Power of Friendship: It's literally his superpower. He can gather friends at astonishing rates.
  • Rank Up: As the game progresses, the New Kid rises in rank, going from simply Douchebag to Sir Douchebag, then Commander Douchebag and finally King Douchebag.
  • Reckless Pacifist: If his opponents are human, chances are they'll still be alive when he's done with them, even after being hit with explosions, electricity, or anything else that normally would kill a person.
  • Religious Bruiser: The game over screen being Heaven implies that he might be a Mormon (considering that, for the most part, only Mormons are allowed in Heaven in the South Park universe, no matter what their moral alignment is). There's also the Jew class, which involves using Jewish-themed attacks. Further evidence of this can be seen when he summons Jesus. While Jesus shoots down the baddies for him, the New Kid will simply close his eyes and make the Christian Sign of the Cross.
  • Rookie Red Ranger: He's one of the most recent kids to join the LARPers and is technically a year younger than the other fourth graders, yet just after some brief training from Cartman, New Kid's talent for fighting prove to match and surpass his party members.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The New Kid decides that he doesn't want to play anymore and goes home in the ending. That said, he still plays with the kids in the post-game and in the sequel.
  • Sergeant Rock: As he rose in ranks he essentially follows this trope when leading his allies into battle, he favors doing whatever he can on his own to carry a mission forward and only gives orders when it's absolutely necessary.
  • Serious Business: It's implied that the New Kid sees his Facebook account as this, to the point where one sidequest has him confront Al Gore in response to the former vice-president spamming the New Kid's Facebook with posts.
  • Shock and Awe: As a Mage, he can use Lightning Volt, which runs through target's armor and shields.
  • Silent Snarker: The silent acceptance he shows all the crazy things around him makes him feel like this.
  • The Stoic: He always wears the same poker face, doesn’t talk, and generally comes across as aloof and stony to pretty much everyone.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: If he decides to fight Cartman (who, mind you is the guy that taught the New Kid how to fight) after the school siege, he proves more than a match for his mentor in one-on-one combat.
  • Three-Point Landing:
    • He lands this way after dodging his dad's balls.
    • He also does it after executing a perfect Ground Pound as a Fighter.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: The special power that has caused him to be hunted by the government is the ability to quickly gain lots of friends on any social media network.
  • When He Smiles: Whenever Butters heals him.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Wholesome enough to fool a doctor who performs an abortion on him. After that storyline, various female outfits become available and the player can decide to keep crossdressing.
  • Youngest Child Wins: This kid is the youngest of his team, yet by the end of the game they prove to be one of the most badass fighters in South Park and befriend almost everyone in town.

Tropes present in The Fractured but Whole

The New Kid / "Butthole"/ The Farting Vigilante / The Amazing Butthole / "ButtLord"

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Doctor Timothy unlocks all classes following the Coon's departure at the beginning of Chapter 4.
  • Action Girl: If the New Kid is a girl (whether trans or cis), since they kick as much ass as any other gender. Even more so in the "Bring the Crunch" DLC with the Final Girl class, which is what the other characters keep referring to you as.
  • All-Loving Hero: The New Kid is implied to be this, with their infamous ability to gain mass amounts of social media followers allowing them to take selfies with a vast number of their enemies, along with the fact that they manage to earn many of the other heroes' trust and respect and their character sheets after helping them with their personal superhero missions, coupled with that fact that they can't seem to bring themselves to genuinely hate someone, no matter how vile they've acted. The fact that they allow the Coon to fight alongside them again after his betrayal as well as putting up with Mintberry Crunch being a slave owner shows this amongst other examples.
  • Ambiguous Gender: If the New Kid is selected to be a girl, a lot of the other boys discuss this, since they think you're too pretty to be a boy.
  • Apologetic Attacker: Downplayed. While they don't verbally apologize, the sad look they give Butters whenever they see him during their raid on the storage facility makes it clear they really don't want to hurt their best friend even if they're on opposite sides.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: King Douchebag is leagues more powerful than they were in the previous game, especially so in their boss fight.
  • Badass Adorable: Even more so than in the last game, with the ability to unlock more powers as the game progresses and their fart powers becoming so powerful, they can actually BEND the fabric of time. They are also considered to be adorable in the game itself, with the first person you can selfie with directly stating it so.
Mrs. Farnickle: Oh, aren't you adorable.
  • Badass Normal: The Gadgeteer, Assassin and Final Girl classes. The Coon even comments that the former two don't actually have superpowers.
  • Bag of Spilling: After the Genre Shift to superheroes, you lose all of the abilities you had as King Douchebag. Your friends list from Facebook is also pointless now, because everyone has started using Coonstagram instead.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: The Martial Artist class channels the power of dragons into their attacks.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: It's strongly implied that the New Kid shows Cartman their respect and devotion out of this after everything he did for them in the previous game, even when Cartman betrays them and kidnaps their parents, indirectly causing one of their deaths as well, since the Coon is available as a party member once again during the Playable Epilogue, implying that the New Kid forgives him to an extent that they allow him to fight by their side again.
  • Bifauxnen: If you play as a feminine-looking girl, the others will assume you're just an effeminate boy.
  • Black Comedy Animal Cruelty: You can solve certain puzzles by jamming a small rodent minion up your ass and firing them at open electrical panels. You also flush Stripe #4 out by throwing firecrackers at him.
  • Black Magic: The Netherborn class grants them the power of "cool, not-lame darkness" via death-themed magic.
  • Blood Knight: The fact they smile when using certain powers suggests they're one, also the Member berries imply that the New Kid has fond memories of their accomplishments from the previous game.
  • Boring, but Practical: They can have numerous powers that heal or buff their allies. As Cartman sums it up:
Cartman: As is the nature of the support class, the glory of the final blow rarely falls on your shoulders... But you're always on the winning side.
  • Butch Lesbian: This applies if the New Kid identifies as a lesbian, since the skills they use aren't considered objectively feminine.
  • Captain Ersatz: As the New Kid is very much customizable, they can be a reference to many heroes:
    • Could be a subtle one to The Question in terms of their superhero alter-ego. Both are stoic superheroes who rarely express their emotions and stop conspiracies that are connected to the paranormal. Also, the way Call Girl flirts with a Male New Kid could be a slight reference to The Question's relationship with The Huntress, since like the Question is to the Huntress, the Male New Kid is the cynic to Call Girl's optimist.
    • The Amazonian clothes combined with Brutalist makes you a pretty dead ringer for Wonder Woman, especially if you play as a girl. Adding to that, the New Kid changes into his/her clothes through spinning.
    • The regular Brutalist clothes make you into the The Thing.
    • The Martial Artist move set largely involves using ki powered punches and kicks (with said ki taking the shape of a dragon) that are very reminiscent of the attacks used by Iron Fist.
    • Hm... a stoic fighter with time-bending powers who desires to get stronger and enjoys fighting more than they let on, wait, are we talking about The New Kid or Hit?
    • Possibliy a reference to Ben 10, due to the large variety of powers and appearances the New Kid can switch off with.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: The Martial Artist class harnesses one's own ki for superhuman feats.
  • Charm Person: A special Plantmancer ability grants the player the ability to charm foes similar to the Raisins Girls. In the backstory, the New Kid has this power, just as he did in the first game, by being able to make friends quickly. We learn he gets it from his parents.
  • Climax Boss: The second to last boss is a battle between Butthole and the Freedom Pals versus King Douchebag and the Fighters of Zaron. Naturally, your past self puts up a hell of a fight.
  • The Comically Serious: Just like in the last game, the New Kid constantly wears the same expression no matter the situation, though it’s notable that they tend to emote more this time around. What’s also notable is that they have Fartillery powers that they make surprisingly good use of, despite the sheer ridiculousness of having farts that can bend time.
  • Continuity Nod: Back in The Stick of Truth, Kyle threatened to tell everyone that the New Kid was a butthole if he sided with Cartman. "Butthole" is now the New Kid's superhero name, indicating that he did indeed choose Cartman's side.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Their portrayal seems to be a downplayed version of this trope. To clarify, they seem to start the game by actively trying to convince Cartman to let them play (unlike Stick of Truth, where they were drafted into the Fighters of Zaron game). The New Kid seems to still be The Stoic and a Heroic Mime, but they seem to emote much more often than in the previous game, especially during combat. In addition, the player can choose to make them male or female and even choose which gender they identify as, as opposed to the previous game, where females were seemingly an entirely different species. Even their name is changed from "Douchebag" to "Butthole".
  • Crutch Character: The Freedom Pals consider the New Kid to be one in-universe to Coon and Friends and regard the New Kid as the only reason the Coon Friends have kept defeating them. It's even implied to be one of the reasons Doctor Timothy mind-controlled Coon and Friends into attacking the New Kid; since he and the Freedom Pals think the Coon Friends won't be able to win another fight with the Freedom Pals without the New Kid.
  • Cute Bruiser: A female New Kid can become this if equipped Brutalist or Martial Artist powers.
  • Combat Medic: Depending on playstyle, the New Kid can get a variety of healing spells as well as attacks. No class, however, is completely defenseless.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Played for Laughs in their superhero origin as their dad fucked their mom, causing them to become a superhero. Mitch Conner goes back with them back in time to prevent it so they wouldn’t be able to stop his plans, causing his parents to open up and fix their relationship broken by their lies. The Stinger ends with the New Kid potentially becoming a supervillain as Professor Chaos tells them that nothing they do can stop their dad from fucking their mom.
    • It's played straight when the New Kid goes back in time to the point where their find out their parents aren't fucking in bed, but rather doing drugs and alcohol to cope with the stress of keeping the New Kid's secret from everyone, even their own child. They soon explain that their Magnetic Hero powers come from their parents themselves, which lead them to be kidnapped by the Government for their experiments, and they ended up giving birth to the New Kid, whose powers were stronger than theirs, so they had to make sure no one would ever find them, which explains why they had to move from town to town, with the New Kid unable to make any long-lasting friendships all the while, until they decided to settle in South Park.
  • Death Glare:
    • In one of the few times they emote beyond their standard blank frown, they'll give the same annoyed glare to Cousin Kyle that everyone else does when he shows up. Not even the resident stoic can stomach him, it seems.
    • They also gave one to Doctor Timothy when he mind-rapes The Coon just before Civil War 2 starts.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Not many people in South Park can add killing a Lovecraftian Outer God to their resumes, but the New Kid did precisely that with Shub-Niggurath.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: As an Elementalist, the "Sand Trap" has them create a giant sand trap out of the earth that clamps down on adjacent foes.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: When they show up as King Douchebag, The Coon treats them as a regular civilian and tells them to fuck off until they make a new superhero identity. Seems to be zigzagged with everyone else though, as more than a few people whom The New Kid has befriended previously do agree to Coonstagram selfies right off the bat (or at least ask for an easier favor than previously in exchange) while other people tend to disregard the New Kid or act like they've never met before. Though a phone call between Mr. Mackey and the New Kid's parents implies that the people of South Park do remember the events of Stick of Truth and the New Kid's accomplishments in that game, but they don't see those events as much of a big deal anymore.
  • Dump Stat: While mix-and-matching DNA strand with your abilities, you can afford to choose strands with the worst Might, Magic or Spunk when none of your abilities use them.
  • Elemental Powers: Plenty of attacks from different classes involve using fire, ice, lightning, or earth.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Downplayed, as The New Kid seems mostly fine with solving problems with solutions that are at best bizarre and at worst morally or legally questionable, but during their mission in the strip club they're shown being somewhat uncomfortable with giving a grown man a lap dance (which may have prompted them to resort to a fart-based Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique). Another strip club moment has the New Kid feeling somewhat guilty for having to give the DJ a drink that was spiked with various disgusting ingredients (plus their own farts) to incapacitate him.
    • In the "Bring the Crunch" DLC, whenever they do a selfie with Mintberry Crunch, several of the hashtags bring up how Mintberry Crunch is a slave owner and imply that the New Kid was actually upset with finding that out.
    • If New Kid refuses to punch enemies for microaggressions like PC Principal wants them to, some of their friends on Coonstagram will subtly speculate that they view such an act as too petty to be worth the free hit.
  • Emotionless Girl: Rarely shows emotion, and can be a girl this time around.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: The Gadgeteer and Assassin classes don't come with powers, but the New Kid provides them with their own fart powers.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Seems to have no problem eating food covered in Cartman's vomit, though even then they hesitate for a second and grimace as they eat it, attempting to make sure the food stays down.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Or "Et Tu Cartman?", since the New Kid looked up to Cartman as a good friend and mentor after everything he did for them in the past. It's heavily implied that the New Kid didn't take his betrayal well at all. ...at first.
  • Fan of the Underdog:
    • It's implied that through most of the game, the New Kid seems to have some degree of trust and respect for Cartman (presumably due to how he used to treat them with uncharacteristic kindness back in Stick of Truth), hence how the New Kid gets angry at Doctor Timothy for mind raping the Coon as well as how they smile when they and the Coon Friends manage to get Scrambles from the police. When Cartman, as Mitch Conner, kidnaps their parents and indirectly causes the death of one of them, the New Kid still considers Cartman as a friend very much that during the Playable Epilogue, the Coon is once again available as a party member, heavily implying that the New Kid still shows some respect for Cartman even after his betrayal.
    • Professor Chaos tends to be very unsuccessful as a villain, but the New Kid still teams up with him.
  • Final Girl: The class unlocked in the "Bring the Crunch" DLC is based on the trope and literally called this, though the New Kid's actual gender is irrelevant. It invokes the Action Survivor elements of this trope and involves using improvised weaponry to devastate their enemies.
  • Flat-Earth Atheist: You can admit to being an Atheist to Jesus himself, who doesn't mind and will still take a selfie with you.
  • Gasshole: Farts are one of your main overworld abilities, and you eventually learn to fart so hard you bend the fabric of space and time itself.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: If your New Kid has freckles, Morgan Freeman won't be able to charm them into his side by using his "Glistening Freckles".
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Regardless of what gender and sexuality you have chosen for the New Kid, they will still fall victim to the Raisins Girls' charm.
  • The Good King: Seemingly this at the beginning of the game, thanks to the events of the Stick of Truth.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Lots of attacks, particularly for the Brutalist, Martial Artist, and Speedster, are brawling attacks. The New Kid also gains a fart that will stop time during battle and allow the player free punches. Later, PC Principal will let the player get free attacks if the enemy uses a "microaggression."
  • Green Thumb: The "Plantmancer" ability gives control over plants.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: The New Kid's social media powers sounds pointless, but it also makes them the ultimate social media influencer (especially in a world populated by gullible morons). Mitch Conner takes advantage of this by making them take selfies with people wearing his merch, which leads to the various idiots of the town automatically supporting him as mayor.
  • Hero Antagonist: Unaware of Cartman's treachery, your past self fights to stop you.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • The New Kid can express themselves through the hashtags on their Coonstagram selfies and the way they emote.
    • While performing at the old folks home, the New Kid is revealed to be able to play both the mandolin and the flugelhorn (with their ass) extremely well. They're even smiling while doing both!
    • Since Member Berries are collectibles, their comments are practically a case of All There in the Manual for stuff New Kid is nostalgic about.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Mysterion accuses the New Kid of having this, insisting that the Coon is simply using them and cares for nothing but himself. He's not wrong, but apparently, despite the fact the game takes place directly after Stick of Truth, he somehow forgot how much Cartman means to the New Kid ever since the last game, especially due to Cartman treating New Kid with kindness for most of the game and also since that "Princess Kenny" ended up betraying and trying to kill them at the very end.
  • An Ice Person: As an Elementalist, the "Ice Prison" has them freeze one enemy in a block of ice, complete with a "Let It Go" Shout-Out, forcing the enemy to skip a turn. Their Ultimate Attack, "Elemental Onslaught", will also freeze foes.
  • In the Blood: As it turns out, the New Kid's Magnetic Hero powers were inherited from their parents. Their father could attract tons of people on Facebook, and their mother was powerfully popular on Instagram. This also ties in with their fart powers, since the medicine they used to Nerf said powers are what gave them powerful farts.
  • Ki Manipulation: The Martial Artist class fights with dragons formed with ki.
  • Kryptonite Factor: The player can choose what the New Kid's weakness is, with the options of sixth graders, Raisin girls, Chaos kids, old people, ninja, vampires, and crab people. If you're not planning on playing (Or are otherwise unable to play) the game's first DLC, From Dusk Till' Casa Bonita, you can avert this by picking Vampires.
  • Lazily Gender-Flipped Name: if you make them a girl, their canon name of Dovahkin retroactively becomes this.
  • Like a Son to Me: While doing sidequests for Mrs. Cartman, Liane gives some vague hints that she personally regards the New Kid as a second child to her. She evidently trusts them so much that she makes them her pimp, even calling them "Daddy".
  • Limit Break: Each of the classes the kid and take on have an ultimate associated with them. Some are meant for dealing huge damage to a select target(s) while others play more a supporting role.
    • The Speedster's "Hyperspace Fury" pummels an enemy with extremely Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs that deals a fair amount of knockback.
    • The Brutalist's "Full-Force Fisting" pounds an enemy to a bloody pulp with Unstoppable Rage. It deals the highest damage of all of the New Kid's ultimates.
    • The Blaster's "Backfire Blast" has The New Kid swallow a fireball to unleash burning Fartillery, setting a range of enemies on fire while grossing them out, too.
    • The Elementalist's "Elemental Onslaught" conjures up giant arms using the elements of ice, earth, and lightning and slams them into surrounding foes, freezing and shocking them in the process.
    • The Cyborg's "The Big Guns" has two gatling guns and several cannons pop out of the New Kid, who proceeds to unleash their arsenal on their enemies.
    • The Psychic's "Chakra Cleanse" has the New Kid reach a state of tranquility (treating players to psychedelic imagery), allowing them to heal allies and grant them protection.
    • The Assassin's "Deadly Dive" has the New Kid free fall from South Park City Hall and stab their unlucky victim below, Bleeding their enemy and giving them the Invisible status.
    • The Gadgeteer's "Airborne Annihilator" calls upon a drone from the New Kid's room, which then pumps their enemy with bullets before finish them off with a missile barrage.
    • The Plantmancer's "Nature Gift" summons Mother Nature, who lets out a big queef that heals and resurrects allies.
    • The Martial Artist's "Dragon Swagger" has the New Kid summon a dragon made of energy that flips the double bird, enraging all enemies and giving the New Kid the "Blocking" status to negate damage.
    • The Netherborn's "Grim Fate" fuels them with the power of Death, chilling foes around them and entering a Super Mode where they gain boosted versions of Netherborn moves for the next three turns.
    • The Final Girl's "Final Vengeance" has them MacGyvering a deadly weapon Dead Rising style that lets them execute enemies at low health.
  • Little Red Fighting Hood: The Little Red Riding costume set from Bring the Crunch allows the player to make them this. It's especially fitting with the Final Girl class introduced in the same DLC, which gives the player access to various weapons like saw blades.
  • Magic Knight: The New Kid, by virtue of being able to learn multiple classes, is one of the few playable heroes who can use Brawn (physical), Brains, (ranged/magic), and Spunk (support) in one moveset. Most of the other heroes only specialize in either Brawn or Brains, along with at least one Spunk ability.
  • Making a Splash: The Elementalist gives Butthole the power of water, those it is either used exclusively for healing, or together with all the other elements in the Elementalist's disposal for an Ultimate attack.
  • Meaningful Name: Their nickname changes from "Douchebag" to "Butthole", and sometimes "ButtLord", which are far more suitable nicknames for a master of Fartillery.
  • The Medic: They can equip healing abilities, including a Limit Break that heals everyone in their party, and another that revives everyone who's been downed.
  • The Mole: The Coon has them and Professor Chaos fake joining the Freedom Pals to get their leads on the missing cats. The Freedom Pals, thanks to Doctor Timothy, find out at the end of the third night following the defeat of Shub-Niggurath, and Doctor Timothy turns the Coon and Friends onto the New Kid with mind control, leaving them with only Professor Chaos and Call Girl to fend them off.
  • Morality Pet:
    • The only time your parents stop arguing with each other is when you enter the room.
    • To a lesser degree, the New Kid also serves as one toward The Coon (aka Eric Cartman), who mostly acts much more civil and friendly towards them than they do anyone else, He even acts this way toward the New Kid after betraying them as Mitch Conner, which causes Cartman's attempts at empathy to fall flat, but even then, the Coon sometimes butts heads with Mitch Conner whenever the latter makes an effort to get under the New Kid's skin. Although this is most likely Cartman attempting to fool the character into believing in Mitch's existence, as it is implied later on that Cartman is in full control of what he is doing. Then again, butting heads with Mitch Conner shows that the Coon actually feels guilty for betraying the New Kid, seeing as how the New Kid has become Cartman's only real friend ever since the last game.
  • Moveset Clone: Downplayed between a Brutalist New Kid, Super Craig, and Captain Diabetes, they're all brutalists with a knockback and a head charge (shoulder charge in the New Kid's case) attack move. "Wrecking Ball" doesn't go past the enemy and inflicts knockback instead (Super Craig's "Omega Crash Extra" works the same way, but also inflicts slow). Also, unlike Super Craig and Captain Diabetes, the New Kid has the "Gastro Smash" technique that deals damage, knockback and grossed out to enemies on all four sides around them. In short, a Brutalist New Kid and Super Craig both rely on pure offensive power respectively mixed with Area of Effect and nullifying damage, while Captain Diabetes exchanges power for mobility and absorbing damage.
  • My Future Self and Me:
    • One of your time farts that you can unlock in Chapter 3 and onward has you summon the version of you from your backstory to fight by your side.
    • The endgame has you go back in time to stop Mitch Conner's plans, resulting in you coming to blows with your own past self.
  • Mystical White Hair: The version of our Time Master of a protagonist used in the advertising has white hair.
  • Nice Guy: Very much implied to be this, as they manage to win many of the other heroes' respect by helping them with their own superhero missions, and they even manage to win over many of their enemies, who will agree to take a selfie with them. Also, they are shown to enjoy performing community service for the elderly, as they're smiling while playing the mandolin and fluglehorn, respectively.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: After the battle with a mutated Kyle's cousin at the end of the fourth chaper, the Freedom Pals find out that The New Kid inadvertently farted them 10 days into the future. Without them around, Mitch (aka Cartman) completed his plan and became Mayor of South Park, making it virtually impossible to touch him.
  • No-Sell:
    • They are immune to getting grounded by Butters' dad, and are the only one who can snap the other kids out of this status.
    • If the New Kid has freckles, they won't be affected by Morgan Freeman's "Glistening Freckles" attack, which charms the ally into siding with him.
  • Not So Stoic: More so than they were in Stick of Truth as the New Kid is shown to emote more often than the last game, which makes up for their Heroic Mime status, but even then they sometimes pick bizarre moments to give off a vacant expression. Even when forced to gruesomely killing one of their parents, their face remains passive the entire time. The only time they show any real emotion is when they learn the truth about their origin, and why their parents are constantly at each other's throats, and even then their reaction is still subdued. And this is still a 9 year old child. They also emote when Kyle Schwartz shows up.
  • One of the Boys: If you decide to make the New Kid a girl, she is this considering she hangs out with the boys and has a rather unladylike skillset.
  • Pals with Jesus: You can take a selfie with Jesus, and he follows you on Coonstagram.
  • Player-Exclusive Mechanic: In addition to the four moves everyone gets, the New Kid can fart to forcibly skip people's turns, stop time to beat people up and skip people's turns, summon a past version of themself and skip people's turns, can fart to change day to night and vice-versa and skip people's turns, and only people with them on the team can use Ultimates. Only Morgan Freeman has anything like these.
  • Playing with Fire: The Blaster class gives them the power to manipulate fire.
  • Power-Up Food: They unlock more time-bending powers by crafting and eating Morgan Freeman's burrito recipes.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Apparently this is how they convince Cartman to unlock more classes. In practice, it just looks like you're just staring at him until he relents.
Cartman: Again with the fucking puppy dog eyes? Are you fucking serious?
  • Rags to Riches: When doing a quest for Professor Chaos, you end up losing your house. If you do the Economics minigame, the same minigame that quest was a glorified tutorial for, you can become part of the top 0.1% afterwards.
  • Reality Warper: Their farts can now bend time and space to their will.
  • Red Baron: Pre-Genre Shift, they are known as King Douchebag the Dragonslayer. Their boss fight refers to them as Almighty King Douchebag.
  • Rogue Protagonist: Not here, but set up to become one in the Sequel Hook at the end.
  • Sadistic Choice: The climax of the Dr. Mephesto's Lab segment forces the New Kid to choose which parent to kill so they can escape.
  • Samus Is a Girl: If the player chooses to play as a girl, it turns out that the New Kid was actually a girl the whole time in the first game, but no one noticed (with the exception of Wendy). Mr. Mackey is a little confused by this revelation.
Mr. Mackey: It's fine, it's just -I believe everyone was under the impression that um... that he was a boy. I mean she was a boy. Mkay, so the whole King and Stick of Truth thing was actually - Was actually a girl the entire time.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: After farting the Freedom Pals into the future where Mitch (aka Cartman) becomes Mayor, Morgan Freeman contacts them and gives them an enchirito that will allow them to go further back in time to the start of the game to stop him.
  • She Is the King: Inverted in the Bring the Crunch DLC. Other characters will refer to you as the Final Girl regardless of gender.
  • Shock and Awe:
    • The Cyborg's "Faraday Uncaged" is an electrically charged punch that Shocks one foe and knocks them back.
    • The Gadgeteer's "Gigavolt Globe" is a blast of electricity that Shocks all enemies in a T-pattern in front of the New Kid.
    • The Elementalist's Limit Break "Elemental Onslaught" applies Shock and Chill to all enemies.
  • Situational Sword: The Final Girl's "Final Vengeance" can kill any enemies at a certain health threshold, including bosses. However, anyone whose health isn't low enough cannot be touched.
  • The Stoic: Less so than they were in Stick of Truth, as the New Kid is shown to emote more often than the last game, which makes up for their Heroic Mime status.
  • Super Mode:
    • The Netherborn's Ultimate has them become Death itself for three rounds, giving them access to stronger versions of the Netherborn's abilities.
    • The Final Girl's Ultimate grants them a massive chainsaw/axe combo that lets them instantly kill enemies (including boss characters) at low health.
  • Superpower Lottery: The New Kid can mix and match abilities from each class they've unlocked and eventually all of them. This leads to them having a ridiculous amount of options compared to their fellow superheroes, although they may still only uses three abilities and one super at a time.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: At the end, it is revealed that they inherited their social media powers from their parents, who met when they were captured by the government for experiments. The farting superpower is a side-effect of medication meant to suppress said power, meaning they too could possess this ability.
  • Support Party Member: Discussed if the player picks "Plantmancer", since their abilities chiefly revolve around healing. It's also possible to pick only healing and support powers once Doctor Timothy unlocks all skills.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: In the "Bring The Crunch" DLC, it's implied through the hashtags from their selfie with Mintberry Crunch that the Zarganor is one of the few foes the New Kid feels bad for having to defeat, if only because they sympathize with his history of being a slave.
  • A Taste of Power: You start off playing as your King Douchebag persona, but after Cartman switches to superheroes, you have to start from scratch.
  • Teach Me How To Fight: The only thing the New Kid seems to ask for in return for working for Coon and Friends is for Cartman to give them access to more classes, furthering their effectiveness in combat. This implies the New Kid joined Coon and Friends more out of a desire to get stronger and sees getting rich from being part of a superhero franchise as little more than a by-product. Though they were still fine with Coon and Friends being absorbed into Freedom Pals once the latter revealed their franchise plan.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: After the events of the main story, when the New Kid helps Mysterion during the mission "From Dusk Till Casa Bonita", they can choose to help the Coon take his commemorative photograph, which he thanks you for by helping you take down the Vamp Kids. Of course, this might also mean that the New Kid forgives the Coon for his betrayal and selfishness. But after the events of "Bring The Crunch", it's implied that any further battles the New Kid and Mintberry Crunch team up in end up as a one-sided version of this trope. While Mintberry has no problems with the New Kid whatsoever, the hashtags displayed whenever the New Kid selfies with him imply the New Kid is not happy to be working with a slave owner.
  • Time Master: Their farts are now powerful enough to bend time and space. In combat, this allows the New Kid to cancel out an enemy's turn, freeze time to get in extra hits, bring their past self to the present to aid them in battle, and shift the time of day to take away any benefits the day or night gives to an enemy. The game reveals that these powers are, in fact, a side-effect of the medication that the New Kid's parents sneak into their dinner every night to suppress the New Kid's Charm Person powers.
  • Time Stands Still: As noted above, the New Kid can unlock the ability to pause time for five seconds both in and out of battles. In battle, the player can use this technique during an enemy's turn to get several free punches on the enemy side.
  • Time to Unlock More True Potential: As the game goes on, the Coon unlocks more classes for you to perform, eventually letting you choose up to four classes. Doctor Timothy later unlocks all class abilities for you to choose starting from Day 4. Morgan Freeman will do this for your time-bending fart powers while Kenny unlocks the Netherborn class if you have the "From Dusk Till Casa Bonita" DLC and you end up tapping into the powers of the Final Girl in the "Bring The Crunch" DLC.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: If New Kid is female, she'd be the tomboy to Call Girl and/or Henrietta's Girly Girl. Being the heroine who can sometimes wear masculine clothing and always has fart powers in her arsenal.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: A Female New Kid strictly regards herself as One of the Boys, but that won't stop her from wearing various style of girly clothes, hairstyles, and/or makeup and generally make herself look as girly as possible, and humorously, the boys will ''still'' think the New Kid is a boy.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Not that they weren't already badass, but in this game, their farts have been upgraded to be able to bend time and space.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Seems to have a fondness for Mexican food, or at least Tex-Mex (despite South Park being in Colorado) since a lot of healing items are Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes (not to mention gaining powers from custom burritos).
  • Training from Hell: Tupperware puts the New Kid through this trope in the "Danger Deck" challenges. It's taken even further when the "Ultra Challenges" are unlocked.
  • Undying Loyalty: The New Kid is implied to have this towards Cartman after all he did for them in the previous game, even when Cartman betrays them and commences his plan to raise crime in South Park in order to promote his Coon & Friends Franchise, trying to kill them and their friends, and indirectly causing one of their parents' deaths. It's shown that the Coon is once again an ally in the Playable Epilogue, implying that the New Kid's Undying Loyalty hasn't wavered that much that they allow the Coon to be an ally again. After all, if it weren't for the Coon's betrayal, the New Kid wouldn't have found out about their true origins.
  • Vocal Dissonance: One line at the end of the first game is in a deep voice, which is weird if you chose them to be a female.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: They give Doctor Timothy a non-verbal one by shooting an angry look at him when he starts mind raping the Coon to reveal they have no connection to Netflix.
    • Is frequently on the receiving end of these by the other kids, even when they have no real control over the situation.
    • In the "Bring The Crunch" DLC, New Kid makes a passive-aggressive attempt at this trope whenever they selfie with Mintberry Crunch, by adding several hashtags in their Coonstagram post that bring up how Mintberry is a slave owner, implying that the New Kid is trying to call out Mintberry for being okay with practicing slavery.
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…: Their solution to any problem is inevitably going to involve farting or shoving something up their ass. All of the unlockable Buddy Powers involves using their farts to bypass an obstacle somehow (whether it's to trigger Captain Diabetes' Diabetic Rage or to power Toolshed's Sandblaster), and their farts become something of a plot device.
  • When She Smiles: Depending on how you play the game, the New Kid can potentially smile a lot more compared to Stick of Truth, such as whenever they do selfies, or in combat whenever they use certain powers or are healed or buffed by allies. But during cutscenes, they smile at exactly two moments; first being when they play the mandolin and flugelhorn while performing for the old people. The second time is after they and the other Coon Friends get Scrambles back from the police. There's even a third time when "Bring the Crunch" is completed after you defeat the alien invading Lake Tardicaca, where the New Kid has the biggest smile on their face along with the other heroes when they win.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Like The Stick of Truth, various types of clothes and cosmetics are offered to the New Kid and can be worn regardless of gender. So it's possible to identify as a male while sporting long hair, makeup, and a dress or be a girl while wearing a wrestling outfit. Regardless, the other superheroes will always think of you as a boy or a boy with oddly feminine features.
  • Why Can't I Hate You?: For some reason, even after finding out that the Coon and Mitch Conner were one and the same, along with having to take all the bullshit the Coon's caused through his crime wave, the New Kid can't bring themselves to turn away from him, even allowing him back into the Allies app after his plans are foiled. It just shows how nice the New Kid genuinely is and how nice they are to their friends. Even when finding out that Mintberry Crunch is a slave owner, he's also still in the New Kid's Allies app, showing just how much they've bonded during their adventure at Lake Tardicaca up until that point.
  • Would Hit a Girl: One of the enemy factions is the Raisins girls. Of course, they can dish it out as much as you can. There's also a sequence where the player fights a series of female strippers, and an unending crowd of old people, who can be of either sex. It's also possible for the New Kid to kill their mother in the genetics lab by tearing her arm off as she begs for mercy.
