    Introduced in Phantasy Star Universe

Ethan Waber

Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki (JPN), Nick Tagas (ENG)

The Main Character of Universe. Lumia's older brother and member of the GUARDIANS Mobile Defense Unit.
  • Anti-Hero: As a Rogue, he assists the GUARDIANS outside the law. Episode 3, Chapter 3 has him make use of his outlaw status to break into the Communion of Gurhal's headquarters for a "terrorist attack." It's actually a diversion so the GUARDIANS can sneak in and investigate the LSS.
  • Big "NO!": Lets one out when Orson dies.
  • The Commies Made Me Do It: He is coerced into assassinating president Dallgun by the Illuminus' leader (who threatens to kill his father if he doesn't comply.) The attempt fails and he is forced to flee.
  • Double Weapon: Beyond Episode 1, his weapon tends to be a set of Crea Doubles, a Double Saber resembling the weapon type as it appears in Phantasy Star Online rather than the more oar-like designs common in Universe.
  • Evil Costume Switch: Ultimately downplayed because while he doesn't actually become evil, he does become more willing to resort to underhanded tactics as a Rogue.
  • Expy: Since he is a redheaded Wide-Eyed Idealist whose shirt is white with colored sleeves, he is often compared to Shirou Emiya.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Though he tends to switch between different kinds of sword-like weapons. He's usually shown wielding a Saber and a Handgun (mainly in promotional art,) a Sword, or a Double Saber.
  • Idiot Hero: He really doesn't seem particularly bright in his dialogue and often charges into combat headfirst. Hyuga teases him for this, and Karen berates him.
  • Redemption Demotion: Played with since he only appears to have done a Face–Heel Turn. As a Rogue, Ethan uses two S-Rank weapons (Crea Doubles and Blackheart), but when he becomes a GUARDIAN again, he keeps his Crea Doubles but trades in his Blackheart for the A-Rank DB's Sword. He also downgrades his Sword and Wand.
  • Right Man in the Wrong Place: Takes up arms during the first SEED attack because the only Guardian there (Leo) is paralyzed and his sister could be in danger before help arrives.
  • Rogue Protagonist: He becomes a literal example in Ambitions of the Illuminus when he joins the Rogues. But it's ultimately a subversion. Tylor granted him asylum after his failed assassination plot and the two team up to fight the Illuminus.

Karen Erra

Voiced by: Rie Tanaka (JPN), Erin M. Cahill (ENG)

A female Newman and GUARDIANS instructor. She is assigned to oversee the training of Ethan and Hyuga when they enter the GUARDIANS. Strangely for a Newman, she is unable to use TECHNICs. She is actually the estranged twin sister of the Divine Maiden, and had her aptitude for TECHNICs forcefully drained by her father to increase the power of Mirei's. When Mirei is later killed, Karen is forced to assume the role of the Divine Maiden to avert a panic.
  • Badass Normal: Since she is incapable of using TECHNICs, she relies on her expertise with guns and melee weapons to get through the mission.
  • Dual Wielding: Her weapon is a pair of photon daggers.
  • Mini Dress Of Power: Her jacket creates this look, but she's actually wearing shorts underneath.
  • The Stoic: Rarely shows emotion, both in and outside of combat.

Hyuga Ryght

Voiced by: Akira Ishida (JPN), Andrew Ceglio (ENG)

A young and cocky human who joins the GUARDIANS at the same time as Ethan and forms a friendly rivalry with him. Hyuga may act like The Casanova, but he is also a devout follower of the Gurhal Faith and a genuine prodigy. He is actually the son of the president of GRM, and inherits the company during the events of Ambition.

He becomes infected by the SEED Virus during his work as a member of the GUARDIANS, and despite taking suppressants he eventually mutates into a SEED-Form. He is saved and reverts back to his human form, but sometime between the events of Episode 3 and Portable 2 he- along with many other humans who were exposed to the SEED Virus- transforms into a Dewman.

Maya Shidow

Voiced by: Rie Saito (JPN), Amy Provenzano (ENG)

A female Newman, and Karen's adoptive sister as well as a researcher with the GUARDIANS Research and Development Department.
  • D-Cup Distress: A brief cutscene in Portable reveals that she doesn't really like having large breasts.
  • Lethal Chef: The rations she prepares are... less than appetizing, to say the least.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She has the largest breast size in the game (larger than the maximum size for a player's character, in fact!). Her normal method of getting past men is to shamelessly flirt with them. It even worked on Fulyen Curtz, who was a staunch CAST Supremacist at the time.

Lucaim Nav

Voiced by: Ichirō Nagai (JPN), Darren Jennings (ENG)

An male CAST and headmaster of the GUARDIANS Academy.
  • Dirty Old Man: Loves pinching the butts of his female students ... for training purposes, no less!
  • Double Entendre: Just about everything Nav says in combat can be taken the wrong way.
  • Power Fist: Prefers wielding Knuckles.
  • Old Master: Despite being a CAST, he resembles an old man.

Leogini Santosa Berafort

Voiced by: Creator/Rikiya Koyama (JPN), Mark Atherlay (ENG)

A male Beast. He is the first member of the GUARDIANS Mobile Defense Unit Ethan meets.
  • The Big Guy: He is a Hunter who prefers heavy two-handed weapons, specifically Spears and Swords.
  • Gentle Giant: One of the tallest characters in the main cast and also one of the most amiable.
  • Team Dad: Despite being not much older than Tonnio, He's usually the one who has to keep his recklessness in check.

Tonnio Rhima

Voiced by: Romi Park (JPN), Amy Rubinate (ENG)

A Hot-Blooded male Beastling. Like all beastlings, Tonnio looks like he's not older than twelve, but he's old enough to be your father. During the events of Universe, Ambitions, and Portable Tonnio is part of the GUARDIANS. In Portable 2 and Portable 2 Infinity Tonnio has since left the GUARDIANS in three years since the events of ''Ambitions'' and married Liina. He now works with Liina as a pair of mercenaries.

Liina Sukaya (Liina Rhima)

Voiced by: Ryoko Nagata (JPN), Meissa Hutchison (ENG)

A more calm and collected female Beastling. Like all Beastlings, Liina looks like she's not older than twelve, but she's old enough to be your mother. During the events of Universe, Ambitions, and Portable Liina is part of the Tyler Family - as the second in command to Alfort Tylor. In Portable 2 and Portable 2 Infinity Liina has since left the Tylor Family in three years since the events of ''Ambitions'' and married Tonnio. She now works with Tonnio as a pair of mercenaries.
  • Battle Couple: with Tonnio in Portable 2.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: Though not a sword per se, she often wields a Dagger and a Crossbow together.
  • Pregnant Badass: In one of the sidequests we learn that Linna is several weeks pregnant with Tonnio's baby. Yet she was able to kick the native creatures' butts for the first half of the quest - then her morning sickness caught up with her.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: Often seen with a Crossbow.

Alfort Tylor

Voiced by: Toshihiko Seki (JPN), David Rosenthal (ENG)

A powerful and respected Rogue leader with a strong sense of honor.
  • Expy: His nature as a honorable space pirate is a reference to Tyler from End of the Lost Age. His ship, the Landeel, is also named after Tyler's ship.
  • Honor Among Thieves: A staunch believer in this, for he refuses to kill needlessly or steal from the poor.
  • Space Pirates: He has the air of a pirate captain. His weapon is even a flashy, glimmering laser cutlass.

Lou

Voiced by: Ayako Kawasumi (JPN), Brett Walter (ENG)

A CAST in the GUARDIANS Intelligence Unit. Lou's specialties include data gathering and analysis, hacking, and blowing stuff to smithereens with her SUV weapons. Lou is a special CAST in that she is the only CAST to have multiple bodies that all share the same mind - an ability previously only belonging to Copy-CASTs.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite being the most stoic and unemotional member of the cast, Lou is surprisingly sharp when it comes to reading others' emotions. In Shadow Of the Arkguard, she picks up on Ethan's plan to assassinate President Dallgun because he isn't acting like himself. She also deduces he is only doing so under duress which leads to her, Tonnio, and the Landeel's crew preparing an escape route for him.
  • Machine Monotone: Lou always speaks in same monotone voice no matter what situations she is in. This, coupled with her Stoic status.
  • Me's a Crowd: As noted above. There's even a mission where you help one Lou rescue another. It's a good chance that you never work with the same Lou twice.
  • More Dakka: Her SUV weapon.
  • The Stoic: Purposely limits the emotions she shows and feels as they impair her work. Though she learns to open up a bit more - when doing so won't impair her duties.
  • Robot Girl: Naturally, though she comes across as robotic even by Cast standards.

Lumia Waber

Voiced by: Ayako Kawasumi (JPN), Amy Provenzano (ENG)

Ethan Waber's little sister. She joins the GUARDIANS in Episode 3 as a new recruit, and by the events of Portable 2 has become one of their most elite agents. Although the older Lumia is highly skilled and focused, she tends to dismiss the help of others and work alone.
  • Action Girl: By Portable 2.
  • Apocalypse Maiden: In Episode 3, she is used by the bad guys as a vessel of negative emotion, which would catalyse the resurrection of Dark Falz.
  • Big Damn Heroes: How she is re-introduced in Portable 2.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She is quite cold towards Little Wing in Portable 2, sometimes to the detriment of the mission. Her Character Development has her mellow out and learn to rely on others more.
  • Damsel in Distress: For a lot of Episode 3.
  • History Repeats: After Ethan saved her using Leo's weapons, she uses the same handgun to save him from Helga in Shadow of the Arkguard.
  • Inconsistent Coloring: In-game in Universe, she is a redhead... yet her Portable 2 design and official artwork show her with brown hair. (Her concept art for Portable 2, meanwhile, shows her with a hair color somewhere in between the two.)
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Downplayed in Shadow of the Arkguard, where she frees Ethan from Helga's grasp by startling her with a gunshot.
  • Magic Wand: Uses only Rods and Wands.
  • She Is All Grown Up: Changes from an average-looking little sister to a stylish space wizard courtesy of the Time Skip.
  • SergeantRock/SternTeacher: Emilia says she has become this in record time as a Guardians instructor.
  • Sibling Rivalry: One of the contributing factors to why she tries so damn hard in Portable 2. She has a lot to live up to, being the little sister of the famous hero that basically saved the entire Gurhal System.
  • Special Guest: She makes a special appearance in Phantasy Star Online 2 in her Portable incarnation as a guest star, where she shares a few non-canon bonus cutscenes with Vivienne.
  • Took a Level in Badass: By Portable 2.

Introduced in Ambition of the Illuminus

Laia Martinez

Voiced by: Yuko Kaida (JPN), Gina Tuosto (ENG)

A senior Beast instructor within the GUARDIANS. Laia is renowned for her ruthless training regimen, to the point where merely graduating from her tutelage is considered an achievement in itself. She is the adopted daughter of GUARDIANS President Obel Dallgun, and feels that she has to prove herself worthy of both her professional position and of being his daughter. When Dallgun is killed during the events of Ambition, Laia inherits his position as leader of the GUARDIANS, although she is reluctant to do so at first.
  • Black-and-White Morality: Has trouble trusting Ethan due to her zero-tolerance attitude toward criminals. Justified because the crime he is accused of is an attempt to assassinate President Dallgun, who has the added bonus of being her father.
  • Bling of War: After becoming the GUARDIANS' new leader and the Illuminus' first major defeat, she trades in her outfit for more elegant formal wear befitting a paramilitary commander.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: While she is a field operative herself, she has this reputation as an instructor. It initially makes things awkward when she is promoted to President of the GUARDIANS, a desk job.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Inverted. She's a toned, no-nonsense warrior with pigtails.
  • Heroic BSoD: Losing her father sends her into one. Your fist mission in Episode 3 is to find her and snap her out of it.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Downplayed since she is fully in her element as a GUARDIAN. Her familial connections, on the other hand, are a source of shame for her. She doesn't want people to know she is President Dallgun's adopted daughter because she resents the special treatment that would result from it.
  • Multi-Melee Master: Uses Spears, Twin Claws, and Axes evenly enough that she lacks a true weapon. She is depicted with both her Spear and her Twin Claws in official art for Ambition of the Illuminus.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: The plot of Episode 2 is all about her, with the Player Character pushed to the background.
  • Tomboy: Blunt, short-tempered, and doesn't seem to pay much mind to people viewing her as "loud and ugly."

    Introduced in Phantasy Star Portable

Vivienne

Voiced by: Megumi Toyoguchi (JPN), Amy Rubinate (ENG)

A new Super Prototype CAST with unprecedented emotional processing capabilities. She is assigned to be the partner of the Player Character in Phantasy Star Portable, who is tasked with shaping her emotional development. Vivienne is generally quite friendly and dedicated, though she comes off as naive at times. She is actually a Copy-CAST of Helga Neumann, who uses the unwitting Vivienne as a mole within the GUARDIANS, with everything she sees and hears fed back to Helga.
  • Clones Are People, Too: Despite being Helga's Copy-CAST, she wants nothing to do with the Illuminus' plot and joins the final battle against them in Episode 3.
  • Double Weapon: She almost always wields Double Sabers.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Her antennae resemble a pair of rabbit ears.
  • Robot Girl: One unusually effective at learning and processing emotions. Even though that technically she's a Copy-CAST, the trope still applies
  • Shadow Archetype: To Helga, as the personality of a Copy-CAST is a copy of the original creator. This means that Vivienne shows how Helga used to be, before her mind was corrupted by the SEED.
  • Special Guest: She makes a special appearance alongside Lumia Waber in Phantasy Star Online 2, starring in a few non-canon bonus cutscenes.

Introduced in Phantasy Star Portable 2

Player Character

The main character of Portable 2 and its Updated Re Release Portable 2: Infinity. A mercenary, who after a turn of events, joins Little Wing and forms a team with Emilia. Unknowingly, their arrival would change and motivate the lives of people they meet later on for the better.
  • The Ace: They get recognized as being one of the top members in Little Wing, during the events of Episode 1.
  • Badass Crew: S/he along with his or her Five-Man Band.
  • Brains and Brawn: They are the Brawn and Emilia is the Brains.
  • Experienced Protagonist: They becomes if save data from Portable is imported into Portable 2, resulting in the player character being the original protagonist of the first game now having become a mercenary after leaving the Guardians.
  • A Hero to His Hometown: After the events of Episode 1, they're considered a hero by the members of Little Wing for all their actions in saving Gurhal.
  • Heroic Mime: Their dialogue in cut-scenes is player-input through dialogue options. Aside from that they don't seem to speak much.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: During the prologue they end up protecting Emilia from an enemy Svaltia at the cost of their life. However, thanks to Mika's assistance their life is saved and they're later taken to Little Wing.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: To Emilia. She quickly becomes attached to the Protagonist and considers them her closest friend, being unwilling to go on adventures unless they tag along with her. During Infinity, Nagisa also becomes attached to them in a similar manner.
  • Nice Guy: Most dialogue options portray the Protagonist as being very friendly towards others.
  • Old Hero, New Pals: If you import the same character from Portable to Portable 2 as they went from being a member of the Guardians to becoming a mercenary working for Little Wing.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Emilia. The two are portrayed as quite close to one another and Emilia feels at her most safest whenever the Protagonist is around. However, outside of some mild Ship Tease, their relationship is generally considered platonic.
  • Protagonist Without a Past: If save data from Portable isn't imported then the Protagonist starts out as a simple mercenary whom nobody knows about.
  • Purely Aesthetic Gender: Stat-wise there are some differences, where males seem to have around 5% more HP, ATK, DEF and EVA, whereas females have around 5% more ACC, TEC and MND. They also have a larger PP pool and thus regenerate more PP per second than males. There are other differences that will be different depending on the race you choose. Episode 1 does not have any differences in dialogue no matter the gender, however in Episode 2 some of the dialogue will be different depending on the gender you choose.
  • Supporting Protagonist: Is this throughout Portable 2 as the real focus of the story is Emilia. Same applies in Infinity where the main focus of the expansion story is Nagisa.

Emilia Percival

Voiced by: Chiwa Saitō (JPN), Stephanie Komure (ENG)

A lazy and unmotivated girl who works as a mercenary for Little Wing, mainly because her boss is also her reluctant legal guardian. She suffers from a critical lack of ambition, and the story of Portable 2 focuses on how she regains her drive after becoming the partner of the Protagonist and being possessed by the Ancient known as Mika.

  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Despite her attitude towards work, the game makes it clear early on that Emilia is quite smart and could likely achieve a lot more if she applied herself.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: It turns out she was once a member of the Guardians years ago after being taken in by them as a child. However, due to her super genius intellect, the Guardians used her as a tool and experiment to further their war against the SEED which Emilia hated. This caused her to run away, and the trauma of her past was bad enough that she mentally blocked out memories until years later by the time of the game.
  • Happily Adopted: By Kraz who's her legal guardian. As much as they give grief towards each other, the two of them consider each other to be the closest thing they have to family. By the end of the game, they even make it official through Kraz adopting Emilia as his daughter.
  • Iconic Item: Combat-wise, it's her Magic Staff Clarita Visas.
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: She overhears Kraz and others discussing about forbidding Emilia to accept any mission, which results in him running away to do an investigation on her own. What she doesn't hear is that they do this to keep Emilia from harm.
  • Please Wake Up: To the Protagonist when they end up receiving a fatal blow while protecting her from an enemy during the prologue. Fortunately for Emilia, their life is saved by Mika who was sleeping dormant inside of her.
  • Powers via Possession: When Mika "takes over", her combat power increases.
  • Sharing a Body: She and Mika shares the same body.
  • Wetware CPU: She was used by the GUARDIANS as the core of an experimental Wetware CPU. This ended up cultivating her antisocial behaviour, as the scientists treated her as a part instead of a person.

Kraz Muehler

Second in Command Of Little Wing and Emilia's legal guardian.
  • Action Dad: He's one of the most capable members of Little Wing while also being the closest thing that Emilia has to a father. He officially becomes this when he formally adopts Emilia by the end.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He once had a family but lost them in an incident a long time ago. This is why he can be so abrasive in the present, and it's not until Ursula kicks some sense into him, and the influence of those around him, that Kraz decides to clean up his act.
  • Guns Akimbo: His main weapon of choice is a pair of dual pistols.
  • Inter Species Romance: His relationship as a Beast with Ursula, a Newman.

Yut Jun Yunkers

A young warrior in-training of the Kasch tribe the party fought during a mission with Emilia, Liina and Tonnio to find Kasch Tribe village.
  • Big Brother Worship: He looks up to his dead older brother who was a warrior in his tribe.
  • Non-Human Humanoid Hybrid: He's a Half-Beast and Half-Newman.
  • Not Afraid to Die: Majority of his personality is his reckless nature and a mixture of this and Death Seeker. This comes from his brother who said that a warrior could be strong when they "touched death" which he misinterpret as actively seeking for death in battle. In actuality, what his brother meant was a sort of adrenaline rush when someone wanted to live.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Pudding. It's one of the first foods he eats outside his village.

Ursula Laurent

A Female Newman and owner of Little Wing.

Chelsea Enchante

A female CAST and receptionist of Little Wing.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: She used to be an instructor in AMF. It's also not-so-subtly hinted during a sidequest that she's infamous for being very strict.
  • Gratuitous French: She occasionally throws a French word or two.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Her SUV is Champagne.
  • Leg Focus: The first shot of her is her exposed leg, which is justified by her having a recent injury she recently woke up from.
  • Long-Range Fighter: While other CAST team members usually have short range weapons among others in her arsenal, hers are excusively long-range.
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: She looks really, really human-like, possibly even more than majority of CASTs in the game. Even her "boobs" slightly jiggle during cutsenes.

Mika

An Ancient who co-inhabits Emilia's body.

Nagisa Adelheid

Voiced by: Nana Mizuki

A character introduced in Expansion Pack game Portable 2 Infinity. Nagisa is a "Deuman", a new race of mutated humans who have gained supernatural powers from exposure to the SEED virus. She is a cold and determined young woman who is searching for a series of mysterious fragments.

  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Overtime, Nagisa eventually learns to relax, especially around her newfound friends... Which makes it all the more heartbreaking when you have to face her after she thrashes everyone. See Suicide by Cop.
  • Disappears into Light: Does this in the Normal Ending.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Like with most Dumans, this acts as a power limiter.
  • Genius Ditz: She's a combat expert, having years of experience alone to work with, but to say Nagisa lacks common sense would be such a horrible understatement. It makes for some hilarious moments, though.
    • Example 1: Yut has to find himself a bride before coming back to his village. He comes to Nagisa, wondering if she knows where he can find that bride. She recalls the word, but misremembers its meaning, telling the Kasch boy that a bride is a rival. The player character even comes across this, and it isn't until after she misdefines it to Yut that she sees them.
Nagisa: ...? What's wrong, <Player>? Why do you look as if you are about to laugh?
    • Example 2: The obligatory beach scene includes her being utterly oblivious to why everyone's gawking at her and her swimsuit until the player character explains what's going on.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: One of the things she's revealed to want in the True Ending in a flashback. She gets her wish.
  • Impossibly Cool Weapon: Her greatsword, which (taking a cue from the Lyrical Nanoha series) can expend bullets to increase its power.
  • Ineffectual Loner: Her character arc boils down to working past this, as she's fought alone for most of her life. It takes a lot of help from the player character and their friends, and maybe a little bit of Wainal's handiwork, for her to get there.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Absorbing the Dark Falz fragments does this to her, on top of being generally unpleasant to her body and mind. She's forgotten a lot of things, but if you reach the True Ending, a post-game dialogue shows that everything's coming back to her, bit by bit.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: If it's covered by a patch, you're safe. If she removes it and her other eye turns red, though...
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: She's the can for Dark Falz.
  • Sharing a Body: She and an Ancient named Wainal shares the same body.
  • Suicide by Cop: Attempts to have the player character kill her to avoid unleashing Dark Falz on the Gurhal system. Twice. The first time has the potential to go through, but if you refuse to fight back, she tries this again on the Holy Ark Crowley. This one fails outright, as by that point the player character is determined to bring her back alive.

Wynarl

Voiced by: Shin-ichiro Miki

An Ancient who co-inhabits Nagisa's body. Implied to be Mika's brother

  • Consummate Liar: Deceives both Nagisa and the player character a lot throughout Episode 2, to the point Nagisa thinks he lied about getting her what she wanted for her birthday in the True Ending. However, both that claim and the claim that his goals hadn't changed since the beginning were two of the few things he said that were true.
  • Dirty Old Man: Emilia immediately thinks of him as a pervert due to his Stripperiffic Ancient attire. Despite his insistence that she stop calling him that, he still tries to goad the male Player Character into feeling up Nagisa while she's sleeping after absorbing a fragment, only to be foiled by Emilia who calls right before the Player Character can do anything to her.
  • Face–Heel Turn: If you choose not to kill Nagisa in Clad 6, Wynarl pulls the Ark Crowley out of Parum's ground and proceeds to threaten the Gurhal System with it and kidnaps Nagisa in the process. Subverted as not only does he deliberately manipulate things so that the Player Character can go after him, but it turns out he set the whole thing up in an attempt to get Nagisa to want to live and have hope, thus expelling Dark Falz from her and absorbing it into himself in order to have her and the Player Character's team defeat it for good, sacrificing himself in the process
  • Walking Spoiler

    Antagonists

Renvolt Magashi

A CAST who leads the mysterious Endrum Collective, a group that wishes to use the SEED Crisis to monopolise the A-Photon technology discovered in the Relic Sites. He is actually a Copy-CAST of Karl F. Howzer, created to stir dissent and advance the goals of the Illuminus. In The Magashi Plan, the player cooperates with a "defective" clone of him. This same clone goes on to be the vessel for Dark Falz in Subplot 4 of Episode 3, Chapter 8.
  • Back from the Dead: He is killed during the game, but is revived by the SEED to act as an incarnation of Dulk Fakis. After that, a second copy is defeated and repaired by the GUARDIANS, mellowing him out a bit.
  • Blood Knight: He really, really enjoys a good fight. Even after turning against Howzer.
  • Clones Are People, Too: Develops free will despite being Howzer's Copy-CAST.
  • Flaming Laser Blades: His weapon of choice is the Two-Headed Ragnus, a pair of jagged burning Sabers. He can even cast Foie using them!
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: Despite being Copy-CASTs, the original series of Magashi units began disobeying Howzer's orders and developing their own sense of self. By the time the first Dulk Fakis was defeated, Howzer began eliminating the rebellious Magashi units and replacing them with more loyal (but weaker) units. You manage to save the last survivor before Helga can destroy him.
  • Large Ham: Boy is he ever. He inherited this trait from Howzer, the human he is a Copy-CAST of.
  • Last of His Kind: The Magashi clone you meet is the last of the original series after Howzer began destroying them for their disobedience. The ones created later are mindless loyalists to Howzer.
  • Monochromatic Eyes: The only prominent CAST in the story to have these.
  • Obviously Evil: A grayscale-skinned CAST with imposing red armor. Wonder which side he's on...
  • Playing with Fire: Again, he uses burning Sabers and uses them to cast Foie.
  • Redemption Demotion: After Emilia "upgrades" him, he trades in his Two-Headed Ragnus for regular ground-element GRM twin sabers.
  • The Rival: To Ethan.
  • Worthy Opponent: The "defective" Magashi clone views the player character as this, especially when he has to fight them (as Dark Falz) in Subplot 4 of the Episode 3 finale.

Karl F. Howzer

The shadowy leader of the human supremacy group, the Illuminus. He seeks to use the SEED Crisis as an opportunity to advance his own agenda and commit genocide on the non-human races. It is later revealed that the Illuminus was a front for Howzer's true goal: to find a vessel for Dark Falz and unleash them upon the Gurhal system.

Helga Neumann

A mysterious terrorist linked to a number of SEED attacks. She bears the name and appearance of a scientist who disappeared over twenty years ago, but she does not seem to have aged a day. She is actually a clone of the original Helga Newmann made from SEED cells. The SEED cells have corrupted her original personality, bending her will towards that of the Hive Mind SEED. There are also hundreds of these clones, essentially making her immortal.
  • Enigmatic Minion
  • Expy: Her command over SEED-forms, personality, relationship with Vivienne, and last name (which is very similar to "numan") are all references to Neifirst, the original numan from End of the Lost Age (PSII).
  • Kiss of Death: Her preferred way of spreading the SEED virus. It works on Mother Brain and she very nearly infects Ethan until Lumia shoots her out of the way.
  • One-Winged Angel: Has two such transformations, although the second is into Dulk Fakis.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Howzer. It helps that an alternate ending for A Brighter Day reveals that she loves him.

Shizuru Shu

Voiced by: Jun Fukuyama

The main antagonist of Portable 2. Shizuru is a charismatic young man who is at the forefront of subspace research. He is seeking the "Codexes", which would open the way to Maghara and allow the Ancients to carry out their master plan. He has become possessed by Kumhan, the cruel king of the Ancients, against his will. In the Perfect Ending, he throws off the possession and joins the heroes in their final battle.

Kumhan

The true main antagonist of Portable 2

Dulk Fakis

The final maturation of a SEED life-form. Any creature that has been infected by the SEED has the potential to become a Dulk Fakis, the Hive Queens of the SEED Hive Mind that are able to control where they go and who they infect.
