    Igarashi

Voiced by: Tomo Saeki (Japanese)

Originally the team captain and often premier soccer player at Misora Elementary, he returns in later series as a coach due to an injury.

  • Distress Ball: In almost every episode he appears in, he receives (or already has) an injury that would prevent him from playing soccer.
  • Handicapped Badass: He can still play soccer pretty well with a broken arm.
  • Improvised Umbrella: He uses his jacket to shelter himself and Maki when they get Caught in the Rain that Doremi creates.
  • Nice Guy: Igarashi is very kind and just person. One instance of his kindness sees him requesting the coach to put fellow teammate Daichi Shibayama in a starting position even though he's horrible at soccer.
  • Put on a Bus: He really serves no importance to the show and was shipped off after A Day in the Limelight moments (justified as he had graduated from elementary school after season 1). Sometimes The Bus Came Back once a season.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: When he fills in as the coach of Kotake's soccer team. He moves Kotake to the bench as he was having an It's All About Me attitude (something he related with), and Koji to a regular on the team to have him gain more experience.
  • Satellite Love Interest: He really has no purpose in the show other than being Doremi's crush.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: Has this briefly with his girlfriend Maki when they start going to separate schools and became involved in other activities that put a heavy weight on their relationship.

    Reika Tamaki (Josie Huffington)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tamaki_basic.png

Voiced by: Ai Nagano (Japanese), Rosa Vivas (European Spanish)

  • Academic Alpha Bitch: She has the looks, the popularity and the grades.
  • Alpha Bitch: She goes out of her way to antagonize and bully other students in the earlier episodes. Lampshaded by Momoko.
  • Attention Whore: Gets jealous when someone gets more attention than her.
  • Book Smart: While she acts like a vain, shallow Spoiled Brat, Reika is very book smart and gets very good grades. It's the reason why she respects Hazuki at times.
  • Break the Haughty: Multiple times throughout the series. The most notable would be the first time when she ran for class representative and lost due to her pride.
  • Character Development: She gains even more sympathetic development during Motto, where her self-centered and bratty behavior is revealed to be caused by her loneliness and insecurity. Momoko sees through this and becomes close friends with her, and also helps others to see Reika's true self.
  • Class Representative: Starts off as this until she is dethroned by Masaharu. She regains this position in Motto.
  • Cool Big Sis: She is this to her younger cousin Erika, who seems to admire her quite a bit.
  • Daddy's Girl: Reconstructed in that her father spoils her rotten because he feels guilty about letting her get seriously injured by his carelessness. When she has doubts about it due to an Armor-Piercing Question from Onpu, Reika collapses. Once this is revealed, he keeps being doting but more sincerely. Also, Seki-sensei tells Mr. Tamaki that the trope is not bad in itself, as long as the parents don't go overboard.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Gets jealous of Momoko being a potential Dude Magnet.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: When she ran for class president during S1, she would actually have won had she not goaded her opponent, Masaharu Miyamoto, into continuing his campaign.
  • Honor Before Reason: See Hoist By Her Own Petard. Tamaki wanted to defeat someone running against her instead of winning by default. She goaded her opponent, Masaharu Miyamoto, into continuing because:
Tamaki: My Pride won't allow a win without a fight.
  • Image Song: "Super Ojou-sama!!"
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: She normally seems a textbook case of Small Name, Big Ego, but she's later revealed to be an insecure girl who just wants to have friends. She was sincerely happy when Momoko accepts her as her friend.
  • Informed Attractiveness: She's apparently supposed to be one of the best-looking girls in the class... according to herself, that is. Subverted in that her male classmates are not that attracted to her and seem to prefer other girls like Onpu or even Momoko.
  • Jerkass: In her earlier episodes, she often put down other students simply to make herself feel superior. This got on the nerves of the Ojamajos and prompted them to help those who oppose her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Spoiled Brat as she is, Tamaki isn't completely evil either. Her focus episode in the first season has her going through an Heroic BSoD when she doubts that her Bumbling Dad truly loves her and bonding with Shiori.
  • Last-Name Basis: Reika and Shimakura are the only two girls that Doremi and her friends refer to on a Last-Name Basis, probably because she holds the main antagonist role of their school lives. Hana also follows the suit, but calls her "Tamaki-chan" whereas Doremi and the other girls call her "Tamaki-san."
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: Jerkass as she is, she legitimately has a Freudian Excuse for her behavior and she is more than capable of caring about others. Several episodes of Character development later, and Doremi is more than willing to help her to become the class representative again.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Reika often laughs with a loud, "Oh-ho-ho-ho-ho!" especially after she brags about herself.
  • Odd Friendship: After Reika and Momoko get off to a rough start, Momoko later realizes Reika has no one other than Shimakura as a friend and offers to be one for her. They become very close throughout the series.
  • Ojou: Her image song is actually called "Super Ojou-sama".
  • Pet the Dog: She shows her Hidden Depths and takes Shiori under her wing.
  • Rich Bitch: Bought an expensive brassiere from France to show off at school in season 3. Miss Seki didn't take this well, even though she saved up the money all by herself.
  • Rich Suitor, Poor Suitor: In Ojamajo Doremi 16, Reika starts secretly dating a former delinquent and Kindhearted Cat Lover, knowing that her family would oppose their relationship.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Constantly overestimates her popularity and believes herself to be superior to other people.
  • Spoiled Brat: She is typically given everything she wants by her parents. This is played with in that her dad only started doing this after making her cry.
  • Tsundere: Part of her being a Jerk with a Heart of Gold involves her inability to admit her true feelings.
  • Villain Ball: Holds this during the election episode during Series 1. Masaharu was about to back out due to having to see the class divided and fighting when she goaded him into staying in. Her reason for doing so was Pride rather than Pragmatic Villainy. Regardless, she ended up losing in a landslide due to his speech earlier.

    Marina Koizumi (Amanda)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marina.gif

Voiced by: Oma Ichimura (Japanese), Rocío Azofra (European Spanish)

  • Curtains Match the Window: Has blue eyes and dark blue hair.
  • Flower Motif: Marina's favorite flower is the daisy, a symbol of innocence.
  • Innocent Flower Girl: Marina takes care of the flowers at school, especially her favorites, the daisies.
  • Purple Is the New Black: Marina's hair is implied to be black, but rather than using purple, blue was used instead for highlights.
  • Ship Tease: Gets a lot of this with Takao Kimura.
  • Ship Sinking: In Ojamajo Doremi 16, it's implied that she and Kimura were together but broke up because they were growing apart in pursuit of their dreams.
  • Shrinking Violet: Not as much as Hazuki, but still has shades of it. She is very shy and not the type who would get into your face easily.
  • 10-Minute Retirement: When Kimura called Marina a teacher's pet, Marina decided to stop tending the flower gardens for a while as she felt that she had no other talent than being a teacher's pet.

    Masaru Yada (Justin Bailey)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/masaruyada_0001.gif

Voiced by: Nami Miyahara (Japanese), Gerry Meza (Latin-American Spanish), Pepe Carabias (European Spanish)

  • Chick Magnet: In Ojamajo Doremi 16, Doremi describes him as being popular with the girls.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Just so happened to have his trumpet when Fujio was trying to wow Hazuki with one of his own. Lampshaded by the girls asking him about it.
  • Disappeared Dad: His dad is a businessman working abroad in Germany (in the 4Kids dub, a traveling trumpeter), so he doesn't get to see him often.
  • Informed Attractiveness: The Ojamajo Doremi 16 novels would like to remind you that Yada is "cool" and "good-looking"... every time he is mentioned.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While he was rude about it by skipping class when asked to draw their mothers, he does point out Shiori's mom died and she was visibly uncomfortable about it.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Has this type of relationship with Shiori, because they both share the anguish of not having a mother. Masaru is also the one who accompanies her the most when she is in the hospital, unfortunately this closeness has led some to Mistaken for Romance, which sometimes distresses Hazuki.
  • Missing Mom: Due to his mother's death, he's had a Freudian Excuse for being upset during Mother's Day. Fortunately, he gets over it when he warms up to his stepmother.
  • Mistaken for Gay: By Momoko when he purchases Valentine's Day chocolate, since the tradition is for girls to give the chocolate to boys. Turns out he was just after the magical courage the girls added to the candy.
  • No Social Skills: Not entirely, but at the beginning of the series, he tends to lash out instead of explaining what's bothering him. This does get a bit better as the series goes on, and is somewhat justified because he's a little kid whose life has gone through a few changes.
  • Not So Stoic: Several times actually. Most notably during the Courage test, when he mumbled about being unable to move his legs after everyone else got spooked by a ghost story. Another would be when he was among those who discovered the girls' secret.
  • Twice Shy: With Hazuki. Hazuki is already shy, but Masaru is shown to be just as shy as her when someone mentions the relationship between the two of them.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: In regards to his delinquent tendencies.
  • Would Hit a Girl: In his introductory episode, Miss Seki gets a few punches in the gut when he snaps.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: When it comes to ghosts and shares this with Hazuki. He even shares the same spell she uses for trying to hold it off...with similar results.

    Shiori Nakayama (Susie Williams)

Voiced by: Takayo Yumi (Japanese)

    Kaori Shimakura (Penny)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shimakura.png

Voiced by: Shihomi Mizowaki (Japanese), Rocío Azofra (European Spanish)

  • Beta Bitch: Often plays this role to Tamaki, especially in the first seasons.
  • Camera Fiend: Subverted; she takes pictures due to her insecurity issues.
  • The Dragon: To Reika on occasion.
  • Image Song: She sings a part of Reika's "Super Ojou-sama!!". Subverted as the tracks count this as Reika's song, not Shimakura's.
  • Girlish Pigtails: That contradicts her personality.
  • Last-Name Basis: Besides Reika, she's also the only other girl in school that the main characters refer to by last name only since she's part of Reika's Girl Posse.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: She spies on Doremi during her Final Witch exam, ends up seeing her and Aiko as witches, and phones Tamaki about it. This ends up ultimately spreading to everyone, who then barges into the Maho-Dou while the girls are still in their witch uniforms. The result? Onpu is forced to erase everyone’s memories to save herself and the others from a Forced Transformation, causing her charm to break apart and she falls into a 100-year slumber, which the other girls save her from by giving up their powers.

    Nobuko Yokokawa (Belinda Higgins)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nobuko.gif

Voiced by: Kyoko Dounowaki (Japanese)

    Miho Maruyama
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mihomaruyama.png

Voiced by: Oma Ichimura (Japanese), Ana San Millán (European Spanish)

  • Ambiguously Gay: She seems to have romantic feelings towards Nobuko, who has feelings for Aiko.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She is jealous of Aiko for having Nobuko's full attention.
  • Homoerotic Subtext: She seems to like Nobuko very much and feels jealous of Aiko for having all her attention, even in a story that illustrated with Nobuko she was portrayed as a girl who had an unrequited love for a male character (which is based on Nobuko).
  • Image Song: She gets to sing in "Katsugi Manga Kokuhaku?" but the song is mainly Nobuko's Image Song.

    Nanako Okada (Autumn Harrison)

Voiced by: Mamiko Noto (Japanese), Vanessa Garcel (Latin-American Spanish), Pepa Agudo (European Spanish)

  • Broken Bird: When you learn why she refuses to get near animals...
  • Friend to All Living Things: Zigzagged. She loved her puppy as a toddler more than anything. And when she's first introduced, her dog had died in an accident (and in front of her), causing her to never approach any kind of animal for fear that the same thing could happen if she even goes near them. And it almost happened again, when she had to take care of one of the school bunnies and he got injured.) She's back to loving animals again at the end of her debut episode.

    Mutsumi Kudo (Melissa Scott)

Voiced by: Chizuru Matsuyuki (Japanese)

New SOS Trio (Yuji Sagawa, Yutaka Ota, and Jun Satou)

Yuji voiced by: Reiko Fujita (Japanese)

Yutaka voiced by: Noriko Fujita (Japanese)

Jun voiced by: Naozumi Takahashi (Japanese)

  • Aesop Amnesia: The girls lampshade that Yuji and Yutaka didn't learn their lesson from bullying Naomi when they do the same to Kanae.
  • All Men Are Perverts: In Motto, they attempt to peep at the girls during their health examination but fail since Seki-sensei overhears their plans.
  • Comic Trio
  • Dub Name Change: Yuji Sagawa was changed to Simon. Yutaka Ota was changed to Oliver. Since 4Kids never dubbed anything past the first season finale, Jun Satou never appeared in the dub and subsequently never got his name changed.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: While they're not actually evil, they have caused Naomi to cry when they saw her wearing a dress and when they made fun of Kanae Iida's weight, she goes on a diet, eating less food and exercises excessively to the point of exhaustion. When they see the damage they've done, they attempt to apologize and try to set things right.
  • Image Song: "Owarai no Michi" with Toyoken.
  • So Unfunny, It's Funny: Hazuki is the only person who laughs at their jokes. Aiko and Onpu did laugh at the original SOS Trio in the Sharp Movie, but it was only because a magic flower granted the SOS Trio's wish to be funny.

Toyoken (Toyokazu Sugiyama and Kenji Ogura)

Toyokazu voiced by: Reiko Kiuchi (Japanese)

Kenji voiced by: Tomo Saeki (Japanese)

  • Aesop Amnesia: Toyokazu for the same reason as his former teammates.
  • The Ace: Only applies to Kenji Ogura. He's athletic and intelligent, but prefers to make jokes with Sugiyama.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: Their specialty.
  • Chick Magnet: Kenji, which Toyokazu uses as a reason to try to end the partnership.
  • Dub Name Change: Only applies to Toyokazu Sugiyama, who was changed to Stuart. The 4Kids dub called him "Phineas" in the first episode. Like Satou, Ogura never appeared in the dub.
  • Hidden Depths: Everyone in class is shocked that Kenji wanted to be a comedian.
  • So Unfunny, It's Funny: Invoked by Momoko, who is the only person who laughs at their jokes.
Momoko: It's so stupid, but it's so funny!
  • Image Song: "Owarai no Michi" with the New SOS Trio.

    Naomi Okuyama (Gia)

Voiced by: Miwa Matsumoto (Japanese), Pepa Agudo (European Spanish)

  • Growing Up Sucks: When the 5th grade heath exam revealed she's developing faster than the other girls in her grade, she becomes self-conscious about it.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: She's taller than all of her classmates.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Despite being seen as super boyish and cool due to her height, she secretly adores girly things and longs for a cute dress to wear. When the Ojamajo manage to get her said dress and the SOS Trio mock her, poor Naomi is brought to tears.

    Kouta Amano (Keith Lennon)

    Junji and Yoko Manda

Voiced by: Akemi Okamura (Japanese)

  • Dragged into Drag: To get closer to a boy she likes, Yoko comes up with a plan to wear Junji's clothes while Junji wears hers.
  • Half-Identical Twins: Junji's a boy and Yoko's a girl.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy
  • Potty Emergency: Junji doesn't know which gender bathroom to go in when he's disguised as Yoko. Thankfully for him, the twins are found out shortly afterward.
  • Twin Switch: They pull this off so Yoko could hang out with other boys. Unfortunately, they end up making trouble for both classes.

    Itoko Hamada (Juliet Kojuro)

Voiced by: Kaoru Shiomi (Japanese)

  • Massive Numbered Siblings: She has five siblings, resulting in six kids, one for each grade in a Japanese elementary school when we first get introduced to her.

    Susumu Yanagida (Hanson)

  • Nice Guy: He certainly doesn't have the attitude to be a sumo wrestler (which Kotake basically forced him into).
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He loves his fried bread. 4Kids exaggerates this by having him say he once ate 97 loaves of fried bread and was still hungry afterwards.

    Kayoko Nagato

Voiced by: Fuuko Misaki (Japanese)

  • Back for the Finale: She returns for the graduation in the series finale, where she says that if it weren't for Doremi, she would never have come back to school and thus wouldn't have been able to graduate alongside her new friends. This, along with similar stories from her other classmates, helps snap Doremi out of her Heroic BSoD.
  • Friendship Trinket: Miss Seki's meteor necklace, given to symbolize their trust.
  • Guilt Complex: The poor girl feels like she burdens everyone around her, including her parents.
  • Hikikomori: Afraid of going specifically to school due to past events with Class 1 before the shuffle.
  • Trauma Button: Running across any of her fourth grade classmates.

    Ryota Hayashi (Peter)

  • Fan Boy: Of kaiju and other monsters

    Kanae Iida (Haley)

  • Big Eater
  • Nice Guy: Bullying from the SOS Trio doesn't get her down, and she even points out some cheap places to eat in the shopping district.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When she refuses the Ojamajos' attempts to have her stop dieting, they know something's wrong since she tends to be very nice.
  • Sunny Sunflower Disposition: When she passes out from dieting too hard, both the main characters and the SOS Trio give her sunflowers.

    Masaharu Miyamoto (Scooter)

Voiced by: Haruna Katou (Japanese)

    Michiaki Watabe (Mackenzie)

    Takeshi Hasebe

  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Mutsumi.
  • Disappeared Dad: His father is never mentioned in the story.
  • Mama Bear: Inverted. He's been worried about his mother ever since she was harassed in her own bar. He even tried fighting the perpetrator. Afterwards, he's tried to persuade her to get a different job for the sake of her own safety.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Yada.

    Kazuya Yoshida

  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: In school, he's a goofy troublemaker on par with the SOS Trio. Outside of school, he's a fairly competent taiyaki chef and is serious in his (unsuccessful) attempts at making better taiyaki than his father.

    Mint Wada

    Masato Rinno

  • Class Representative: Of Doremi's class after the student shuffle.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Deconstructed: He genuinely cared for Kayoko and wanted her to become more independent, so he bluntly brushed her off when she tried to ask him something, telling her to stop relying on him. Unfortunately, what he didn’t know was that Kayoko was having problems with the other students, and she had wanted to ask him if they hated her. This, combined with all the bullying from the others and the pressure from the school and her parents (particularly her father), caused Kayoko to stop coming to school. Even worse, he kept up his harsh attitude whenever he inquired on why she stopped coming to school, even managing to unintentionally drive the poor girl to a panic attack when he personally confronted her. It wasn’t until he was made by the teachers to listen in on Kayoko’s story that he finally realizes what his harsh approach towards her had caused and he explains himself and apologizes.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold
  • Kick the Dog: Accidentally does this to Kayako when she approaches him to ask if everyone hated her by brushing her off before she could even explain and telling her to not rely on him so much. What he was really trying to do was to teach her to be more independent, but it backfired due to his refusal to listen, and instead ruined their friendship and helped cause her to drop out. Needless to say, Rinno is distraught when he finally learns the truth.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Has a minor case of this when he finds out what his attempts at helping Kayoko had caused.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: When Kayoko wanted to ask if her friends hated her, he brushed her off thinking she wanted help with assignments again. Once the truth is revealed, he has a minor My God, What Have I Done? reaction and apologizes along with the rest of their former group.
