- Age-Gap Romance: Goh is 29, while Anna is 17.
- Battle Couple: She gets together with Goh at the beginning of the series.

- Deuteragonist: She is the secondary focal character after Goh.
- Falling into the Cockpit: In "Wedding Bell of the Battlefield", while trying to run away from the Mimetic Beasts, she stumbles upon Neo-Okusaer and inadvertently activates it. That said, she did have civilian mech piloting experience.

Eventually she realizes her dream of piloting is independent of her relationship with Goh, and reconciles with him for good during a mission where Mira is medically unfit to pilot.
- Joshikousei: She's a female high school student at Gakazono High School and wears a uniform appropriate for it.

- Precocious Crush: She has liked Goh since she was 12.
- Rescue Romance: She falls in love with Goh because he saved her life.
- Strong Family Resemblance: She greatly resembles Kiriko when she was young.
A tough no-nonsense scientist and head of the Dannar program. Mother of Anna.
- Benevolent Boss: As much as she loves her daughter, Kiriko is friendly to her other subordinates, including Goh.
- Boob-Based Gag: Her large bust is frequently played for comedy, with their absurd Jiggle Physics, having her buttons pop off when she moves suddenly, or her giving people Marshmallow Hell, all while never displaying any self-consciousness over them.
- Buxom Beauty Standard: She has the largest boobs in the series, and it's something of a Running Gag that people get intimidated or distracted by them.
- Labcoat of Science and Medicine: She's a scientist who wears a white coat as part of her standard uniform.
- Mission Control: Kiriko gives out orders from within Dannar Base.
- Mum Looks Like a Sister: As an Absurdly Youthful Mother, she looks like she could pass for Anna's older sister.

- Back from the Dead: In the second season premiere, she is revived by Mira's kiss.
- BFG: Her machine, the Core Gunner, has a large sniper rifle as its main weapon.
- Buxom Beauty Standard: Her sizable bust is one of the reasons why she's a Dude Magnet.
- Celibate Hero: She refuses to engage in a serious relationship with anyone else, likely due to not getting over her crush on Goh.
- Character Catchphrase: "Just who the hell do you think I am?"note
- Cold Sniper: Her Core Gunner has a sniper rifle as its primary weapon, and she can give off the cold shoulder sometimes, but not always.
- Come with Me If You Want to Live: Shizuru invokes the trope once she tracks down Anna at the beginning of the second season.
- Dude Magnet: Men tend to find her attractive, and she's Kouji and Shinobu Lust Object. Yet she's frustrated the one she likes, Goh, isn't into her.
- Hartman Hips: As shown multiple times in the show and promotional posters, she has a comically big butt with wide hips. It actually gets her stuck a few times when she boards the Core Sniper.

- More Dakka: Core Gunner is practically a multipurpose artillery piece on legs.

- Out-of-Clothes Experience: She experiences this in the second season premiere.
- The Tease: She acts very suggestively while training Shinobu, much to his annoyance.
- Tsundere: Deconstructed. Her hot and cold mood swings only pushed her beloved away. By the time she came to terms with her feelings, Goh had fallen in love with and married Anna.
- Victoria's Secret Compartment: A particularly memorable scene has Shizuru at a formal event and in formal dress getting an urgent phone call. Cue her breasts vibrating like crazy.
- You Are in Command Now: By the end of the series, Shizuru replaces Kagemaru as the commander of Dannar Base.
- You Are Not Ready: She doesn't think Shinobu isn't good enough for Neo Diver, but she was impressed when he said "I want to be like my brother" (which Kouji took as her being interested in Shinobu).
A hot-headed pilot who is severely injured at the beginning of the series, forcing Goh back into lead pilot role for Dannar Base.
- Back for the Finale: Kouji returns just in time for the Grand Finale.

- The Rival: The epilogue shows him and Shinobu in a Love Triangle over Shizuru.
- Running Gag: He's usually shot down, and then someone claims that he might've bitten the dust. Cue a cut-in revealing him, wounded but alive, muttering, "I'm not dead..."
Goh's ex-lover, whom he still mourns. She was seemingly killed in battle against the Mimetic Beasts five years ago, but was actually absorbed by one and her comatose, yet still very much alive body is discovered by Kiriko in the first episode.
- Ace Pilot: She is a badass pilot who helped stop the first invasion of the Mimetic Beasts.

- Back from the Dead: More like a coma, actually, but everyone thought she was dead for quite a long time.

- Dumb Blonde: She's a blonde who's gone through mental regression. She gets better in the second season.
- Gorgeous Gaijin: In a Base filled to the brim with Japanese nationals, Mira stands out as the only one of two non-Japanese on Dannar Base, and she is frequently scantily-clad.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Subverted; she sacrificed himself to destroy the Mimetic Beast five years ago. However, she managed to survive, albeit with her mentality significantly impaired.

- Navel-Deep Neckline: Ekaterina's stripperiffic pilot suit has a cut-out from the neck down to below her navel.

After he's wounded in battle with the Monster of the Week, she briefly goes deredere and tries to cuddle. However, when Kukrachyov rejects the advance by saying that she's Not Herself, things spiral into a Passive-Aggressive Kombat argument. At one point, she tries to subvert his Subordinate Excuse by directly ordering him to hit her; when he refuses, she withdraws in disgust and then orders him to defeat the new second attack by the episode's Kaiju by himself. Fortunately, she has a Heel Realization and comes to the rescue Just in Time, and they reconcile by the end of the episode.
Ekaterina's willing and faithful servant/slave. Co-pilot of Volspina.
- Character Catchphrase: He responds to Ekaterina's commands with "I would go anywhere with you."
