Kirio Drugstore

Permanent Employees

     Reiji Kirio
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_reiji.png
Voiced by: Jun Fukushima

A Japanese corporate slave who somehow wound up in another world. From there, he opens a drugstore.

  • Accidental Pervert: Noela once flips Mina's skirt in front of Reiji. Her intention was making Reiji see Mina's belly fat, not realizing why it was wrong to show him Mina's panties too.
  • The Ace: Of alchemy, thanks to his Potion Making skill. Though he does need the materials, time, and equipment to process everything, the skill gives him the exact knowledge of what can be made, what he needs to make it, and effectively guides him through the process up to completion with incredible, probably magical efficiency.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Reiji in the original web novel was described as having black hair, as befitting an average Japanese citizen. Every other adaptation has given him brown hair, which makes him look more like a local.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Reiji's most powerful skill is his ability to examine and know everything there is about plants, substances, and materials, letting him figure out how to remake modern-day products or vastly improve the world's flawed production methods.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: He has no idea of his growing harem or his popularity with the women in the area. When he attends Elaine's party, he is completely surrounded by noblewomen trying to court him, to the point of cutting in line introducing each other to try and sabotage each other's attempts. One has to imagine that the many rumors that he reversed Lady Valgas's aging and gave her her youthful beauty back and made Lord Valgas incredibly handsome have plenty to do with it, not to mention his many other miraculous products...
  • Curtains Match the Window: He has brown hair and brown eyes.
  • Humble Hero: Though Reiji is (with good reason) hailed as a master alchemist who's revolutionizing potions and the lives of the people, he does not want to be known as anything other than your friendly local pharmacist. Considering all the trouble his "miraculous" cures and products can bring him, there seems to be a healthy dose of self-preservation to the behavior.
  • Inventor of the Mundane: Though Reiji's main source of income and his claim to fame is his super (energy) potion which are leagues more effective (and pleasant) than normal health potions, he also uses his incredible alchemy and botanical skills to create a number of simple, boring, but practical products that revolutionize the world on a smaller scale, like dishwashing liquid, anti-monster spray, and all-purpose deodorizing liquid.
  • Know Your Vines: One of Reiji's special abilities is to analyze and identify plants, potions, and all manner of other substances, teaching him their various uses and applications if processed.
  • Like a God to Me: Reiji gets the reputation of some sort of medicine god for how miraculous his products are to his customers, much to his dismay.
    • Moz and Doz, Capt. Annabelle's lieutenants, refer to him as the "Medicine God", referring to him formally, kneeling and putting their hands up in supplication, and agreeing to whatever he asks of them without question.
    • Many of Reiji's customers believe him to be a revolutionary alchemist in exile from a foreign country, likely from the godlike levels his products reach and the chaos that would ensue. It gives Reiji a hard time when people implore him to reverse aging or compare his work to actual magical barriers.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Villagers, oftentimes customers, would get up in his face much to his chagrin.
  • Oblivious to Love: Reiji is very dense and ignorant when it comes to the obvious romantic affections that others have of him, except for the most blatant (and unwanted) come-ons from Krull the elf. Justified as Reiji was hinted to be an otaku and a corporate wage slave so he never had much experience with romance or dating, and save for Anabelle, the other ladies are either very young (Noella or Elaine) or long-dead (Mina).
  • Shipper on Deck: Due to thinking that Ririca has a crush on Mina, he tries to be supportive of her "forbidden romance," oblivious to the fact that Ririca actually has a crush on him instead.
  • Soul-Crushing Desk Job: Back when he lived in Japan, he was an office worker who absolutely hated his job and the stressful lifestyle that came with it. He's way happier now that he's a pharmacist in a fantasy world.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Played for Laughs. When the Demon King comes to his drugstore, Reiji finds him pathetic for his lack of money and hopeless pining for Noela, to the point that he offers to give him a potion for free out of pity.

     Noela
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_noela.png
Voiced by: Risae Matsuda

An energetic werewolf girl that became indebted to Reiji when he saved her life. She is the mascot of the drugstore.

  • Adaptation Personality Change: A minor example, as the original web novel, LN, and manga Noella is already plenty protective of Reiji, but the anime version of Noella never hesitates to put herself in danger for Reiji's sake. One incident would be Reiji's running into Feris and Zeral: once the knife comes out, Anime Noella doesn't hesitate to shield Reiji, Manga Noella decides to look the other way and put the basket over her head to pretend she didn't see anything.
  • Adorable Fluffy Tail: People, especially children, love to play with Noela's fluffy tail.
  • Androcles' Lion: When Reiji found her, she was an injured wolf in the process of bleeding out. He made her a delicious potion to heal her. Out of gratitude, she has promised to stay with him and help him.
  • Animorphism: She can transform into a large wolf.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: She is very easily distracted.
  • Character Catchphrase: Whenever there is danger, real or imagined, Noella will quickly jump to shield Reiji and cry, "I sense a fight! I'll protect you, Master!"
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She did not take it well when Paula tried to kiss Reiji on the cheek as a thank you.
  • The Cutie: Pretty much everything she does is to show off how cute and adorable she is.
  • Functional Addict: She's addicted to Reiji's super (energy) potions for the taste, but she rarely does anything worse than sneaking from the backroom stock and having a large to-go barrel of the stuff when she's making deliveries.
  • Genki Girl: A very energetic and bubbly girl who's ready to protect her master whenever she assumes he's in danger (with some exceptions outside of the anime).
  • Hates Being Touched: She hates having her tail and fluffy ears touched, which is unfortunate, as almost everyone wants to do just that. The only exception is Feris, though that was to help calm her down and Noella quickly reached her limit.
  • Horse of a Different Color: She lets Reiji ride on the back of her wolf form.
  • Idiot Hair: She has a strand of hair sticking out of her head.
  • I Owe You My Life: She's dedicated to Reiji for him saving her life with his potion.
  • Insistent Terminology: She is not a "beastman", she's a "werewolf".
  • Instant Expert: She masters archery the moment she first picks up a bow and arrows.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Her human form still has her wolf ears and tail.
  • Mystical White Hair: She's a werewolf girl with silver hair in her humanoid form.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: She's a werewolf who usually stays in her humanoid form, where she still has a wolf's ears and tail. Her wolf form resembles a large dog.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Despite being a kid and half the size of Reiji and most adults, just 10% of Noela's strength is enough to shatter iron knives with a handful of chops against a wooden cutting board. It's especially notable as one of the shards could have killed Mina if she wasn't already dead and ends up embedding itself into the wall instead.
  • Undying Loyalty: Wherever Reiji goes, Noela goes with him.
  • Verbal Tic: Whenever she is having a conversation, she has to let a "woof" to finish her sentences, start one, or just as a replacement for filler words or simple responses.
  • Wonderful Werewolf: She's a young werewolf girl who is adorable, friendly and very devoted to her master Reiji.
  • You No Take Candle: She speaks in broken but understandable language, to reflect her being a werewolf and presumably from far from the rest of civilization. The Crunchyroll subs of the anime don't reflect this, however, making all her dialog completely grammatically correct and with any missing or dropped words added.

     Mina Fleuret
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_mina.png
Voiced by: Akane Kumada

A ghost girl who claims to be the protector deity of the drugstore.

  • Anger Born of Worry: She scolds Reiji and Noela for charging at a dragon to give it a sedative and stop its rampage.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: On the outside, she's a polite and gentle lady, but on the inside, she talks like an exasperated and swearing female gangster.
  • Covert Pervert: She is stunningly quick to assume the lewdest, most scandalous things about any given situation. When a butler comes to the pharmacy summoning Reiji at the behest of Countess Valgas, Mina immediately assumes that Reiji had an illicit affair with the woman. When Reiji and Noela accidentally get their hands glued together, Mina immediately protests the lewdness of them being stuck together and being able to see everything.
  • Cute Ghost Girl: She's a ghost appearing as a cute girl with long blonde hair and wearing a green dress.
  • Delicate and Sickly: When she was alive, she was constantly sick and bedridden. She believed her family resented having to constantly take care of her.
  • The Dreaded: While she generally comes across as polite and friendly, her inner thoughts are darker. This intimidates the others quickly.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: When she drinks a potion that lets others hear her thoughts, Mina's inner self turns out to be a lot meaner than her outer personality, complete with a dramatic drop in pitch to her voice.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: She looks and acts angelic, but a Truth Serum reveals her inner thoughts to be much darker than she lets on.
  • Friendly Ghost: Even though she's a ghost, Mina only wants to take good care of the people living at her old house. She welcomes Reiji and Noela after they move in and becomes like family to them.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's a sweet and kindhearted girl with long blonde hair. However, the one time we see her inner thoughts shows she isn't so nice on the inside...
  • Haunted Fetter: She can't leave the drugstore because her spirit is bound to the building. Later on, it's revealed she's really bound to a brooch that her mother kept for her and can leave the drugstore as long as she's wearing it.
  • Hime Cut: She's a lady-like ghost girl with blunt bangs, bra strap-length sidelocks, and waist-length straight hair.
  • Idiot Hair: She has a strand of hair sticking out of her head.
  • Insistent Terminology: Funnily enough, Mina denies being a ghost and instead insists on being the protective deity of the store.
  • Intangibility: She can phase in and out of matter at will.
  • Invisible to Normals: She can make herself invisible, but Reiji can always see her because he's the owner of her old house.
  • Kindly Housekeeper: Mina is the self-proclaimed "guardian spirit" of the Kirio Drugstore and acts as a housekeeper for its residents. She cooks, does the laundry and looks after Reiji and Noela as if they were her family.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: While she can phase through solid matter, Mina can also touch solid objects and perform tasks around the store.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Reiji. They live together like a family, but both genuinely see each other as close friends and nothing more.
  • Ridiculously Alive Undead: Despite being a ghost, Mina can eat, gain weight, get sick, build muscles and be affected by drinking Reiji's potions, such as getting horny from drinking an aphrodisiac.
  • Team Mom: She acts as the housekeeper of the drugstore and often shows her motherly nature towords Reiji and Noela.
  • Weight Woe: One story is about Mina getting worried about her gaining weight due to eating sweets and not moving a lot because she can't leave the drugstore. She asks Reiji to make her a drug to make her thin without her needing to put in effort, but he can't do that and urges her to get more exercise.

Part-Time Workers

Sometimes the Kirio Drugstore would branch out and allow part-time workers to contribute.

    Garou Ezil
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_ejil.png
Voiced by: Fumiko Uchimura

The head of Demonkind and its armies.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: He's madly in love with Noela, but she sees him as a pest literally and figuratively.
  • Affably Evil: Leaving his bratty and entitled attitude aside, he's a decent employee at the drugstore, to the point it's easy to forget he's leading a demon army to conquer the world.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: When it's clear that his influence, magical power, and lack of human currency won't get him what he wants, he's perfectly willing to beg Reiji for a job and do decently enough at it.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: It's heavily implied his incredible destructive magical might and willingness to put in some effort to supporting his side in the Human/Demon War is what lead to him having his position.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: He was the one responsible for the continuation of the war between mankind and demons after all. However, he is actually more of a clueless child than genuinely malicious.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Rather than a Demon King, he's just a high-and-mighty brat who frequently needs a scolding from Reiji whenever he's working at the drugstore.
  • Break the Haughty: In his proper introduction, Ezil had to deal with the fact that simply being the Demon King did not entitle him to special treatment, and Noella clearly loves Reiji instead of him.
  • Butt-Monkey: Whenever he's at the drugstore, he's getting humiliated, ignored or beaten by his unrequited crush. Reiji finds him pitiful and pathetic despite knowing Ezil is the Demon King.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Casting his teleportation spell drains him of 90% of his magic power. If he overuses it, he'll end up passed out on the floor.
  • A Child Shall Lead Them: He's the king of the demonkind and looks no older than twelve.
  • Chuunibyou: While he really is the Demon King, he gets treated like an annoying brat at the drugstore and can't use magic because he needs to use up 90% of his power to teleport there. As a result, he comes off as an embarrassing Demon King wannabe with his costume and over-the-top gestures.
  • Deathbringer the Adorable: His name is Garou Ezil the Demon King, but it's impossible to take him seriously when he looks and acts like a lovable brat who keeps getting put in his place by Reiji and Noela.
  • The Devil Is a Loser: He's the Demon King, yet is portrayed as an unintimidating and goofy kid who just earns Reiji's pity because he gets treated like a joke and his crush hates him.
  • Dirty Kid: He can be perverted towards Noela, like getting aroused when she smells him and having a nosebleed from seeing her in a swimsuit.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Since he came to the drugstore with no money, he spends three days begging for coins at the street, being convinced that the people gave him money out of fear instead of pity. He suffers severe, devastating wounds to his pride when Reiji offers to give him a super (energy) potion at a severe discount and a second one to go for free out of sympathy over Noela harshly rejecting his first pity potion, to the point of breaking down in tears at how low he's fallen.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: He convinces Reiji to hire him at the drugstore just because he wants to hang around Noela, but no one at the drugstore likes him because of his arrogant attitude.
  • Hopeless Suitor: He has a big crush on Noela, but she doesn't like him one bit.
  • Horned Humanoid: He mostly looks like a normal kid except for the big goat-like horns on his head.
  • Idiot Hair: He has a strand of hair sticking out of his head.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: He fails so miserably at being a dignified and scary Demon King that Reiji can only feel sorry for him.
  • Love at First Sight: He falls for Noela hard after first seeing her and proposes to her right away.
  • Mad Love: Noela feels nothing but disdain for him and often expresses it violently, but he's so deluded that he believes she's just being Tsundere and must definitely like him back.
  • Maou the Demon King: He's an Affectionate Parody of the Demon King stereotype that's so common in the isekai genre. Although Ezil is directly responsible for the ongoing war between humanity and his demon species, in person and around Reiji he's little more than a lovestruck, overconfident kid constantly getting in trouble.
  • No Badass to His Valet: Thanks to him being royalty and surrounded by loyal aides, supporters, and soldiers, he does not take kindly to how poorly he's treated far from the front lines and at Reiji's store, because no one recognizes him and thinks he's a silly kid putting on an act or Reiji insists on treating him like a customer who needs to pay up or get out of his store.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: Has one when Reiji catches him trying to sneak away rather than help with the chores after Mina's inner thoughts are shown.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Magically, anyway. If he wanted to, he can cause an artificial natural disaster on the spot to wipe Kalta off the map along with using highly advanced and rare teleportation magic (though the latter takes up 90% of his total mana and wipes him out on use).
  • Puppy Love: Even though he's the Demon King, he's just a kid and has a crush on Noela, a werewolf girl who looks about the same age as him.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: His Demon King outfit is predominantly black with red accents.
  • Rejection Affection: He is completely devoted to making Noela love him despite the constant rejections.
  • Royal Brat: Being the Demon King makes him think he can just barge into the drugstore and demand Reiji to give him a potion without paying for it. When Reiji tells him that's not how it works, Ezil threatens to destroy the drugstore, which earns him a well-deserved reprimand from Reiji.
  • The Scrooge: When Reiji decides to use his Appraisal on him, the skill describes him as a heinous, cruel, tight-fisted tyrant with a vice-grip on his forces as much as his wallet. As a combination of his position and his miserliness, he's downright offended at being asked to exchange money for goods and services, especially if he's asked for human currency which he doesn't have, doesn't recognize as valuable, and doesn't bother to acquire—until Reiji's store policy forces him to, at any rate.
  • Squishy Wizard: He has unrivaled magic power, but is a normal kid otherwise. Since teleporting to Reiji's drugstore drains him from most of his magic, he's completely harmless during work hours.
  • Teleportation: He casts a teleportation spell to go from his castle to the drugstore and back.
  • Villains Out Shopping: When he isn't leading a war to conquer the world, he works part-time at Reiji's drugstore because he has a crush on Noela, one of its poster girls.

     Vivi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vivi_drugstore.jpg
Voiced by: Saori Onishi

A self-hating water spirit who constantly brings herself down.

  • Curtains Match the Window: She has sky blue hair and sky blue eyes.
  • Cute Oversized Sleeves: She's a lake spirit taking the form of a cute girl wearing a shirt with flaring sleeves that reach her hands.
  • The Eeyore: Because of her bad experiences with her former worshippers who got mad at her inability to grant wishes, she's very gloomy and pessimistic.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: She's a water spirit. Naturally, she has blue hair to match her element. Also counts for Elemental Eye Colors because Curtains Match the Window.
  • I'm Melting!: She must stay cold in her lake to hold her human shape or she'll literally melt into a puddle. Luckily, Reiji gives her his Sweetheart Cooling Gel to keep her cold.
  • Loser Deity: She used to be worshipped as a deity by humans, but is unable to perform miracles for those that provide offerings to her. Because of that, people gradually stopped showing up. When Reiji meets her, she's so hungry that she eats the fish bait Reiji was using for the fishes in her lake.
  • Nature Spirit: She's the spirit of a lake in the middle of the woods.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: She wears a shirt that displays a cleavage down to her midsection.
  • Tears of Joy: She gets emotional and breaks down crying when the members of Kirio Drugstore ask her to become their friend.
  • Vapor Wear: Her shirt is completely open at the front and it tends to fall off her shoulder, making it very visible that there's no straps or bra underneath.

Nobility of Kalta

    Zeral Alonzo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zeral_alonzo.jpg
Voiced by: Taku Yashiro

The heir of House Alonzo, a noble family that owns plentiful, fertile, and profitable farmland in Kalta. He ends up becoming a regular customer of Kirio Drugstore and a "friend" of sorts to Reiji, usually because of troubles related to his girlfriend, Feris.

  • Dirty Coward: When his girlfriend, Feris, is chasing him down with a knife, Zeral begs Reiji for help, uses Reiji as a human shield and almost gets him stabbed, then tries to sneak away while Feris is distracted.
  • Idle Rich: Despite Kalta's reputation as a sleepy backwater town few would travel to or live in if they could help it, House Alonzo is extremely wealthy, letting Zeral spend most of his days enjoying himself, hanging out whenever with his beloved girlfriend, Feris, and helping Reiji through his family's assets (if he's not causing the latest problem in Reiji's life, at least). Reiji often resents Zeral for it but they remain friendly, regardless.
  • Interclass Friendship: He's the son of a noble family, but honestly considers the local pharmacist Reiji to be his good friend and lets him use his farming lands for free. Reiji is embarrassed to call Zeral a friend too, but he obviously returns the sentiment.
  • Lovable Coward: He's a coward who hides behind Reiji when his girlfriend is having a Yandere outburst, but is a decent person for a noble and a truly a good friend to Reiji.
  • Rapid Hair Growth: In one story, Reiji and Feris get worried to see Zeral going Prematurely Bald, so Reiji makes him a shampoo that causes his hair to quickly grow back. It also temporarily turns him into a Gyaru Guy, for some reason.

     Feris
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/feris_drugstore.jpg
Voiced by: Sayumi Suzushiro

Zeral's girlfriend who was prescribed soothing tea by Kirio whenever she doesn't get enough sleep.

  • Calming Tea: At first, Feris acts like a Yandere because she's suffering from insomnia due to her worries about Zeral getting near other women. Reiji figures out what's going on and makes Feris a special tea that calms her down and helps her sleep well at night.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She usually snaps whenever Zeral has contact with other women.
  • Covert Pervert: While she looks like a refined lady (when not in Yandere mode), Feris asks Reiji for an aphrodisiac when she thinks she and Zeral aren't having enough sex.
  • Cute and Psycho: When she's sleep-deprived, she goes from trying to stab Zeral to adorably playing with Noela's tail in one minute. Despite being afraid of her psycho side, Zeral doesn't break up with her because she's so cute when she isn't having insomnia.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: Particularly in the manga, Feris initially has eye bags to show she suffers from insomnia. Her eyes turn normal thanks to Reiji's tea helping her get a good sleep.
  • Girl with Psycho Weapon: She's introduced holding a knife and trying to stab her terrified boyfriend.
  • Hime Cut: She's a high-class lady with blunt bangs, cheek-length sidelocks, and waist-length straight hair.
  • Hysterical Woman: In her introduction, her insomnia makes her constantly scream and cry, causing Zeral to think she's possessed by something. After Reiji makes her a tea to help her sleep, she's acting normal by the next day.
  • The Insomniac: Whenever she gets into a state of worrying about Zeral, she wouldn't get enough sleep.
  • Nervous Wreck: She tends to get panicky whenever she thinks Zeral could like other women. Reiji makes her a Calming Tea to ease her worries.
  • Ojou: She's the daughter of a wealthy merchant family, pretty much making her a princess to the town.
  • Psycho Knife Nut: When she's in Yandere mode, Feris chases Zeral around with a knife in her hands.
  • Satellite Love Interest: Her character can be summed up to "Zeral's girlfriend" because she and Zeral only go to Reiji when they need a potion that helps in their relationship.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Reiji's Calming Tea stops Feris' Yandere outbursts and turns her into a nice girlfriend to Zeral.
  • Yandere: Whenever she would assume that Zeral was seeing other girls behind her back, she would get dangerously violent; in fact, that is how she and her boyfriend were introduced in the show. However, it is made apparent that she only becomes like this due to her habit of poor sleeping and when given soothing tea, she returns to normal.

The Valgas Family

    Elaine Fen Dran Valgas
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_elein.png
Voiced by: Satsumi Matsuda

The young heiress of Count Valgas.

  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her eyes have a four-pointed star where the pupil should be.
  • Flowers of Femininity: She's a ladylike Ojou wearing a red rose to decorate her hair.
  • Idle Rich: She is devoid of any need or compulsion to put in a day's work, due to her family lording over Kalta and other nearby towns and having no shortage of tax revenue. It's explicitly mentioned that her temporary job at Reiji's drugstore is the first work she's ever done in her life.
  • Ojou: Elaine is a very prideful young noble lady, who oftentimes thinks herself more noble and graceful than she actually is.
  • Ojou Ringlets: Fittingly for the daughter of a count, Elaine wears her hair in two prominent vertical drills. Noela calls her "Maki-Maki" ("Drills") as a result.
  • Overly Long Name: Her full name is Elaine Fen Dran Valgas. Only a noble lady would be expected to have a fancily long name like that.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She has a crush on Reiji because he doesn't care that she's a noble and treats her like an ordinary girl. She also sees him as more capable, humble and dependable than the shallow noblemen she knows.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Even though she's spoiled and haughty towards "commoners," she's a nice and friendly girl once she befriends the people of the drugstore. She even asks Reiji to teach her how to make a perfume for Noela as a sign of their friendship.
  • Uptown Girl: She develops a crush on Reiji and likes to fantasize about a forbidden romance with him, since she's a noble while he's a simple pharmacist.

    Casty Fen Dran Valgas
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/casty_fen_dran_valgas.png

A count and the feudal lord who rules the town of Kalta.

  • Doting Parent: He loves his daughter Elaine very much and the feeling is mutual. However, he frequently expresses too much of affection for Elaine's comfort.

    Flam Fen Dran Valgas
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flam_fen_dran_valgas_1.png
Voiced by: Asumi Yoneyama

Elaine's mother and Lord Valgas' wife.

  • Adaptational Hairstyle Change: In the manga, she has Regal Ringlets like her daughter. In the anime, she has a Prim and Proper Bun instead.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: In the manga, she has pupils shaped like four-pointed stars, just like her daughter.
  • I Just Want to Be Beautiful: She asks Reiji for a rejuvenation potion to nmake her young and beautiful again, as she has grown insecure due to other nobles gossiping about how old she looks. Reiji makes her a skin gel to help her look younger and it works marvelously.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Mina assumes Lady Flam and Reiji are having an affair because Lady Flam asked for Reiji to be brought to her mansion and then started sending expensive sweets to his drugstore. The truth is Reiji just gave Lady Flam a gel to make her skin look beautiful and Lady Flam is sending him gifts out of gratitude.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: She does the "Oh-ho-ho-ho!" laugh, as noblewomen in anime typically do.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: In the manga, Flam looks like an adult version of her daughter Elaine. The resemblance is much more downplayed in the anime.

Commonfolk of Kalta

The regular citizens of Kalta, be they merchants, farmers, tradesmen, or whatever else they might be.

    Alf
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alf_drugstore.jpg
Voiced by: Junji Majima

The owner of Kalta's one general store and an important business partner of Reiji, as he is both the person who helped Reiji start the drugstore and is an authorized reseller of much of Reiji's best products. He's married with 5 kids, one on the way.

  • Happily Married: In the anime, he has a very peaceful, very loving union with his wife, without the domestic abuse jokes of the original.
  • Henpecked Husband: Aside from the anime, it was very clear that Alf's wife had little patience for his not being able to make ends meet for his growing family; Reiji's first meeting with him was after Alf fled his own house with a black eye and other bruises from his wife's haranguing him about this. In the anime, the marriage seems much more consistently happy and non-violent, and it's implied Alf is trying to get the extra source of income as a reseller of his own volition than his wife's yelling at him to do so.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He was only really present at the start of the series in any adaptation, helping Reiji start the drugstore then reselling his super (energy) potions to help introduce them to Kalta. But, without him, Reiji would have never been able to establish the loyal customer base and the fantastic reputation that both keeps him afloat and brings him never-ending trouble.

    Gaston
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gaston_drugstore.jpg
Voiced by: Yuuki Tamai

The legendary carpenter of Kalta, unfortunately long past his prime. Most of the jobs he takes nowadays is due to every other younger and more effective carpenter having been drafted to the war against the Demon King's Army, though with Reiji's super (energy) potions, he quickly recovers his lost youth and becomes frighteningly good at his job.

  • The Ace: Of carpentry, in his prime or under the effects of Reiji's potions.
  • Eyes Always Shut: He only opens his eyes when he drinks Reiji's energy potions.
  • Hot-Blooded: He's extremely passionate about carpentry, when he has the energy for it.
  • Living Legend: He's not "legendary" for nothing. Several of the other elderly carpenters say they got into the trade after being amazed at Gaston's skills. During his prime and under the effects of a super (energy) potion, he's capable of doing jobs that would have taken hours to weeks in the span of a few minutes with energy to spare.

     Paula
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/paula_drugstore.jpg
Voiced by: Seika Hirose

The owner of a tool shop that Reiji helps by giving her a strong super glue before making further renovations to the shop.

  • Ambiguously Bi: Despite her being positioned as yet another potential love interest of Reiji, she's very interested in hiring Mina, Noella, and other cute girls to her shop.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: She's a cute and friendly girl with glasses.
  • The Blacksmith: Her main business is in repairs, though she also creates new pieces of equipment wholesale, such as metal plate cuirasses.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has dark blue hair and dark blue eyes.
  • Exhausted Eyebags: Her first appearance has her with deep, dark circles under her eyes from back-to-back all-nighters purely fueled by Reiji's super (energy) potions.
  • Functional Addict: Given how overworked she is from being the only one capable of making metalworking repairs in Kalta, she relies on Reiji's super (energy) potions to keep her awake and lucid enough to work through the nights, often for several days in a row. The only side-effects she shows are from regular sleep deprivation and nothing else.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: She has long hair and wears a pink dress when she isn't working. She also loves cute girls, even wanting to have Noella and Mina work for her.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: When Renji sees her well-rested and outside of her work clothes, he doesn't even recognize her.
  • Wrench Wench: Her bread-and-butter is fixing whatever the people of Kalta break. Before Reiji came along and gave her magical super-glue as a shockingly effective shortcut, she had to use long, laborious, and resource-intensive processes like reforging, reinforcing with additional layers of leather, or making replacement parts.

The Red Cat Brigade

A mercenary company that was hired by Kalta's governor, to help supplement the town guard after most of their young and able members were recruited for the war against the Demon King.

    In General
  • Animal Motifs: In the anime, it's cats. Doz and Moz both wear beanies that resemble cartoon red cats and Doz's weapon of choice is a club whose business-end resembles a red cat's paw.
  • Oddly Small Organization: Despite being a mercenary organization employed to protect the town, there only seems to be three members. One episode has shown there's at least 10 of them or so, however, the anime just uses Moz as a stand in for the rest.

    Captain Annabelle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_anabel.png

The leader of the group. She is a hard-headed leader who takes her job and the reputation of the Red Cat Brigade very seriously, though this does lead her to problems when she's too proud to accept help from others.

  • Chainmail Bikini: In the manga, Anabelle wears what is effectively a metal strapless bra, supported by two thin leather straps attached to a flimsy skirt. Her only sensible armor is a pair of greaves that reach up to her knees.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has red hair and red eyes.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Noela, Mina and Vivi undergo Annabelle's training for a day. Annabelle spends the whole time yelling at them, calling them insects and threatening to hit them with her wooden sword if they don't run fast enough.
  • Fiery Redhead: She's an aggressive and hotheaded woman with very long red hair.
  • Functional Addict: She quickly develops an addiction to Reiji's super (energy) potions, 2-5 of them on a daily basis. After Moz and Doz, her lieutenants, help arrange free daily delivery of 5 super potions in exchange for maintaining the town's security and some product promotion on the side, she is able to function normally with no serious ill effects. The text describes the super potion as similar to a caffeinated energy drink, though without the infamous "crash" and the worse side effects a few hours after ingestion or worse, overdose.
  • Stripperiffic: Her plate armor is effectively a metal tube-top with cups exposing her breasts, collarbone, hips, stomach, and many other rather vulnerable places. This has no real effect on her fighting capability as she can fend off bandits just fine.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: She ties her hair into a ponytail to show her tough and tomboyish attitude.
  • Tomboyish Voice: The anime gives her a raspy and deep voice that makes sound more masculine than most of the men in the series.

    Doz & Moz
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doz_and_moz.jpg
Voiced by: Takahiro Kageyama (Doz) & Junichi Yanagita (Moz)

Capt. Annabelle's trusted lieutenants.

  • Canon Foreigner: Moz is original to the anime.
  • Composite Character: In the manga and the original web novel, the Red Cat Brigade was visibly a much larger organization with several unnamed characters alongside Capt. Annabelle and her lieutenant, Doz. In the anime, the role of nameless compatriots has been compressed into an anime-original character: Moz, Annabelle's new second lieutenant.
  • Fat and Skinny: Doz is the taller, bulkier, and older of the two, Moz is the relatively shorter, skinnier, and younger one.

Customers From Outside Kalta

This lists any and all customers of Kirio Drugstore that are not local to Kalta.

Elves

    Kururu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kururu_drugstore.jpg
Voiced by: Reo Nakanishi

An elf famous for his archery skills and the older brother of Lilica.

  • Camp Gay: He's a very flamboyant and passionate gay man with an (unrequited) torch for Reiji. He's also very flowery in speech and action, and gets even more so when he's under the effects of a libido-suppressing drug from Reiji.
  • Elfeminate: Like the usual male elf stereotype, he's very lithe and androgynous.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Reiji has shown no indication of feeling attracted to men. Not that this discourages Kururu's attraction towards Reiji.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: He has shoulder-length blond hair and is almost as pretty as his sister.
  • Master Archer: He's famed for his archery skills, long-distance shooting especially. His first trip to Kirio Drugstore was when his skill was mysteriously lagging, as he didn't have a concept of eyestrain from excessive training nor did the world have eyedrops before Reiji invented them.
  • Pointy Ears: He has long, pointy ears that are characteristic for elves.
  • Spell My Name With An S: His name is either "Kururu" or "Krull".

    Ririca
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ririca_drugstore.jpeg
Voiced by: Yuka Watari

An elven archer and the younger sister of Kururu.

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She develops a crush on Reiji because his support and advice helped her win a hunting competition.
  • Big Brother Worship: She sees her older brother, Kururu, in high regard especially when it comes to his long-range archery skills. Her inability to get even close to his level is a huge sore spot for her, and what drives her to seek Reiji's help.
  • Godiva Hair: Her long hair cover her naughty bits in her bath scene from the manga.
  • Mistaken for Gay: She has a crush on Reiji, but because her brother is gay, Reiji thinks she has a crush on Mina instead.
  • Pointy Ears: She has long, pointy ears that are characteristic for elves.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Kururu's red. She's generally the calmer and less flamboyant of the two.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Unlike her beloved older sibling, Ririca is much less skilled in archery and has a cooler head.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Because the "R" replaces the "L" in Japanese, her name can be translated as "Ririca" or "Lilica".
