Fukuoka's Local Heroes Dogengers

    In General

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dogengers_metropolis_team.jpg
The Dogengers as of Dogengers: Metropolis.note

They are the heroes of the story, led by Ohgaman. After Jiro encountered the heroes, he sees potential in Jiro and trusts him to lead the team and protect Fukuoka.

  • All There in the Manual: They all are real world celebrities and most of information about them can be found in their own stageshows or social media.
  • Be Yourself: Each hero's focus episode has this message in some way or another. Further reinforced in Nice Buddy.
  • Corporate-Sponsored Superhero: The vast majority of the heroes are either sponsored by corporations or outright corporate mascots.
  • Crisis Crossover: They are heroes from different cities, but for a while stay together to deal with the villains.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: The main reason why Dogengers losing popularity which resulted in their second season getting canceled.
  • A Hero to His Hometown: They are defenders of Fukuoka Prefecture and loved by its people.
  • Henshin Hero: All of the heroes only have their powers when they wear their suites. However, all the heroes in the show except Jiro/Rookie never take their suit off...
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: In the second season Nice Buddy, Ohgaman developed the Buddy System which increases the team's power when each Dogengers work in pairs; Ohgaman paired with Rookie (obviously), Fukuokalibur with Yamashiron, and KitaQMan with El-Brave. The blasters, called Buddy-Buddy Buster are the Buddy System's main arsenal.
  • No Social Skills: Only Aoiron and Fukuokalibur know what a proper date is, others think showing off their job suffices as one.
  • Power of Trust: How Nice Buddy system works in the second season, the better the pair believes in each other the more effective the guns.
  • Putting the Band Back Together: Jiro's main objective is to reunite the heroes after their defeat by Yabai Kamen.
  • Roommate Com: When not doing heroics, Jiro has to deal with them staying at his home. In Nice Buddy, when Riku/Great-Z took over Jiro's house, the Dogengers must relocate to... a furniture store.
    • This furniture store however is more than meets the eye. As it turns out, Ohgaman secretly installed a program that transforms the place into a robot called the Mobile Furniture Store Type: Sekikaguoh #208, which, as demonstrated by Yamashiron, was piloted by doing chores.
  • Sixth Ranger: KitaQMan Metal, younger brother of KitaQMan serves this role, usually to aide his brother into battle.
  • Transforming Mecha: The Sekikaguoh #208, which was created to combat Great-Z's own mech Great Daizenshin.

    Jiro Tanaka/The Rookie

Portrayed by: Kaoru Masaki (live), Yoshifumi Oshikawa (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cast_rookie_sp_3.jpg
A normal young man who's moving from Tokyo and series protagonist. He's coming back to Fukuoka to see his childhood friend Yuki, who he hasn't seen in 17 years. He was saved by Ohgaman from Yabai Kamen and was given a special pin that can turn him into a superhero to fight alongside Fukuoka's heroes.

  • Ascended Fanboy: He admires heroes for being brave and strong, and gets to become one of them.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Before pressing the Ohga System pin, Tanaka says "Rookie: Here I go!"
  • Childhood Friend Romance: His main motive of coming to Fukuoka is to confess his feelings to Yuki.
  • Ensign Newbie: Put in chage of local heroes while Ohgaman is away.
  • The Everyman: Even shown by his hero name being "Rookie" to highlight how unused to the hero scene he is.
  • Grew a Spine: Part of his Character Development is to not be afraid to speak up his mind.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: Supposedly for not being able to return Yuki's feelings. It's gotten so bad that he's not allowed to have an interview session in the first episode of season 2.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: Thanks to Ohgaman not explaining a damn thing to Jiro when handing over the Ohga System, Jiro doesn't know how to use his special weapon or final attack, let alone how to transform.
  • In-Series Nickname: Yabai Kamen calls him "Ordinary Civvie" because he doesn't consider him a true hero.
  • Last-Name Basis: Called Tanaka-kun by other heroes.
  • Mistaken Identity: Since his suit is a green recolor of Ohgaman, who also went missing. Almost everyone mistakes him for the missing hero.
  • Super Mode: With the second Golden Seal he gets a "Rookie: Memory Mode" form.
  • Running Gag: It can take some time before he says what he wants, which often comes late. Other characters often comment on his bad timing.
  • Tag Team: Paired up with Ohgaman as "master/teacher" duo in Nice Buddy.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Ohga System pin that Ohgaman handed to him.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Didn't like Yabai Kamen for causing trouble to begin with, but killing I-Doll certainly pushed him over the edge.

    Pharmacist Warrior Ohgaman

Portrayed by: Yuji Kishi (voice), Kazutoshi Yokoyama (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cast_ohga_man_sp_6.jpg
"Take your medicine and sleep."
He's a hero that came to help solve the leftover prescription drug/antibiotics problem. His true identity is a pharmacist who's the CEO of Ohga Pharmacy, a drug company. He's well known for telling people to take their medicine and sleep well.

  • Ascended Extra: Had a very minor role in season 1, as he left leadership duties to Rookie while he's looking for the secret to Yabai Kamen's new powers. Comes the second season and now he took on a more active role as the leader.
  • Baritone of Strength: He has a deep voice and is considered the strongest of Fukuoka's Local Heroes.
  • Big Good: The strongest of Fukuoka's Local Heroes and technically their leader.
  • The Chooser of the One: Gives Jiro the Ohga System pin, despite Jiro's protests.
  • Corporate-Sponsored Superhero: Played with; He's Ohga Pharmacy's company hero but he funds everything with his own personal finances.
  • The Dreaded: Secret Society of Darkness members believe he's dead and don't like the thought of fighting him.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: His infamous over sleeping habit.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Ohgaman reveals that in his first fight against Yabai Kamen he was holding back - because if he went after him at his full power he would level Fukuoka.
  • Mythology Gag : His voice actor played the civilian identity of Carranger's Red Racer while his suit actor played the character in-suit. Fitting as director Fumie Arakawa has said she loves Carranger and that show influenced much of Dogengers writing and humor.
  • Put on a Bus: In the first season, he leaves the fate of Fukuoka to Jiro in order to go investigate the source of villains' powers. He only returns to the last battle.
  • Tag Team: Paired up with Rookie as "master/teacher" duo in Nice Buddy.
  • The Worf Effect: The strongest member of the Dogengers yet is defeated by Great-Z to show that the new hero is not all talk.

    KitaQMan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cast_kita_q_man_sp_1.jpg
Click here to see Yuki Taki
A superhero from Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. He doesn't want to fight due to his stiff suit. His true identity is that of a model named Yuki Taki. Out of all the heroes in the show, he has the biggest followers count on social media.

  • 24-Hour Armor: An interesting aversion happened twice briefly when he takes his helmet off. He's already open about his identity in real life though.
  • Camera Fiend: Will take a photo of anything that catches his attention to upload on social media, even jumping in front of a Finishing Move for a cool shot. He also uploads photos of food specifically to make people hungry, a hobby known as "rice terrorism".
  • Captain Geographic: KitaQMan represents his hometown of Kitakyushu City.
  • Celebrity Superhero: While he might only be mildly famous by Twitter standards, he's quite popular in the local hero community with 70k followers. Supposedly, his fame is why he was cast in the show.
  • Corporate-Sponsored Superhero: He's plastered with company sponsorships.
  • Cool Car: The KitaQMachine, a customized Nissan Z car... which sadly got flamed in season 2 courtesy of Great-Z. Wait a minute...
  • Dirty Coward: The instant that everyone was blown up and thrown across Fukuoka, KitaQMan joins the Secret Society of Darkness, supposedly so he could have his own gang of ruffians. The instant he runs into Rookie, he slaps all his minions around and tells Rookie that he totally was just being an undercover spy for the heroes and not being a giant coward.
    • His finishing move is KitaQSOS, where he just calls his younger brother, KitaQMan Metal, to fight for him.
    • In one of his music videos, instead of protecting a girl from a gang of guys, he just pushes her into them and walks away.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: Locking his social media account for no reason.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The foolish to KitaQMan Metal's responsible.
  • Hidden Depths: KitaQMan avoids fighting, but as Rookie learns, he still helps Fukuoka residents in his own way.
  • Lazy Bum: Drops in Rookie's house and takes sweet time before getting off the couch.
  • Reluctant Warrior: KitaQMan hates fighting. Why? Because his suit is stiff and it's hard to move in it. He can still do it when needed.
  • Selfie Fiend: He slid under an attack just to post a cool photo.
  • Social Media Before Reason: Almost always seen using a smartphone outside fights, even when others ask him to pay attention.
  • Something Person: KitaQman. The "KitaQ" is a pun on his hometown of Kitakyushu.
  • Troll: He enjoys pissing everyone off with his antics.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Calls Jiro out for hiding the fact that the girl he brought in is actually amnesiac I-Doll and not chasing after her when Yabai Kamen takes her back.

    Sales Department Division Hero Yamashiron
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cast_yamashiron_pc.jpg
Click here to see Redron, Aoiron, and Daidairon
The hero who represents Yamashiro Gas Co. Ltd from Saga Prefecture. In actuality, he's a fusion of three Sentai-like heroes; Redron, Aoi(Blue)ron, and Daidai(Orange)ron. He joined the rest of Fukuoka's heroes since he's got some work to do in this particular prefecture.

  • Ace Custom: They modified their Buddy Buddy Buster so it has the additional function to be a flamethrower.
  • Choice of Two Weapons: Yamashiron can wield any of the three personal weapons of the ones they are composed of.
    • Redron wields a large wrench.
    • Aoiron wields a short sword.
    • Daidairon wields a giant mallet.
  • Corporate-Sponsored Superhero: Yamashiro Gas' company hero(es).
  • Color Motif: Since they are representing a gas company, the trio that make up Yamashiron are themed after the common colors of flames; red, blue, and orange.
  • Costume Evolution: After absorbing the Golden Seal, the original Yamashiron suit becomes High Heat Mode which is more elaborate with a LCD that use seven-segment display for the numerals and also being more powerful. Even after the Golden Seal leaves them, High Heat Mode becomes the new default.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: Refusing to eat bell peppers, which causes him to be seen as a Manchild.
  • Fusion Dance: Yamashiron is a fusion of 3 members of the corporate sales department: Redron, Aoiron, and Daidairon. After absorbing the Golden Seal, Redron is stuck in this form while others seem to be missing until it turns out they were on silent mode.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Daidairon thinks he's a dead weight of the team, courtesy of Yabai Kamen, until Redron snaps him out of it. Redron starts to feel the same as well when others are missing.
  • Japanese Politeness: Redron makes sure to even greet his enemies properly, along with the business card, and also Apologises a Lot.
  • The Power of Friendship: They can't fuse if any of them aren't on the same line.
  • Prone to Tears: Cries quite a lot.
  • Team Chef: Cooks curry for Nokoshima Island and later regularly prepares meals for the heroes.

    Heavenly Hero El-Brave
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cast_elbrave_pc.jpg
He's a pro wrestler hailing from Nakama City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and works for the Hachihata Construction company. While very confident in the ring, El-Brave's height complex kicks in when doing heroic duties with other Fukuoka heroes.

    Fukuo Fire Sword Fukuokalibur
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cast_fukuokalibur_sp.jpg
Click here to see his old costume

The dual wielding swordsman from Fukuoka Prefecture known for taking his job as a hero very seriously. His clothes are made out of a type of tapestry famous to Hakata.

  • Costume Evolution: Shuraomaru uses an illusion to make Fukuokalibur fight in his old costume, hoping he would be ashamed of it. Instead he's proud of all the memories he has with it.

  • Dual Wielding: Uses two swords.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: Being a kendama addict.
  • Nice Guy: Always polite, calm, and has a heart to heart with Eboshi Musha after seeing him depressed.
  • Only Sane Man: Compared to other heroes, he's the least impulsive.
  • You Didn't Ask: Knew about the Golden Seals, but didn't thought it's related to the Secret Society of Darkness' sudden increase in strength until asked.

    KitaQMan MTL (Metal)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dzrilfevmaag0uy.jpg
Younger brother of KitaQMan, often summoned to fight in his older brother's place due to his "stiff suit" not well suited for combat. He yearns for the day that his older brother take his hero duty more seriously.

  • Cool Sword: His signature weapon the Metallic Sword.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Responsible to KitaQMan's foolish.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: KitaQMan maybe the defender of Kitakyushu, but he'd rather spend his time on social media and being a general slacker than actually doing superhero work. And because of the stiffness of his suit, any attempt at fighting bad guys is rendered futile. This is where Metal comes into play.
  • Sixth Ranger: This is the role he took within Dogengers, sometimes aiding his brother in combat. Not that he likes that last part in particular.
  • Worthy Opponent: In Nice Buddy he considers Shuraomaru to be this.

Secret Society of Darkness, Inc.Note

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/logo_114.png
"Yabai!"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shain17_on_5.jpg
"The Employee": Color Me

    Yabai Kamen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yabaikamen_3.jpg

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/evek2v5uuaa31et.jpeg
A robotic looking girl and the newest recruit of Secret Society of Darkness. Doesn't enjoy company of the others and is very aggressive.

  • Amnesiacs are Innocent: After Jiro defeats her, she gets Good Costume Switch, becomes Shrinking Violet and doesn't remember anything about herself.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Jiru asks her what she's fighting for. She stumbles a bit before getting even more angry.
  • The Berserker: The most aggressive and unstable fighter.

  • Comedic Sociopathy: Casually beats Yabai Kamen during the strategy meeting. He doesn't mind it.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Yabai Kamen said she was sweet before joining the group. She's also seen talking to a friend in a flashback.
  • Dying as Yourself: Regains her true memories after being stabbed by Yabai Kamen.
  • Foreshadowing: Yabai Kamen said she used to be nice, which is hard to imagine with how she acts. Also among portraits, hers and Eboshi Musha's are the only ones handdrawn instead of being pictures, hinting that they're not official members.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Gets angry really easily over almost anything.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Was close to becoming a good person thanks to Jiro, until Yabai Kamen turns her into a villain again.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Once she learns where heroes live, she attacks them immediatelly.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only definite female of the group.
  • The Stoic: The most serious one in the group to the point where others are scared of her.
  • Split Personality: Her aggressive and nice personas seem to come from the monster toy and a girl toy Jiro and Yuki played with.
  • Trigger Phrase: Saying "wait" stuns her and gives her flashbacks.

    Shabberyman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shain06_on.jpg

  • Attention Whore: Interrupts a weather broadcast to show off.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Talks directly to the camera, shows Medium Awareness and narrates the episodes' intros.
  • The Dragon: The closest the group has to one, being the one Yabai Kamen trusts the most.
  • Dirty Coward: Willingly joins Great-Z after he defeats Yabai Kamen, with the rest of the group calling him a traitor.
  • Large Ham: Everything he says is over the top and theatrical.
  • Meaningful Name: Shaberi means "chat"; ergo, 'Chattyman'. Fitting for a PR guy who loves to run his mouth.
  • Spell My Name With An S: His name (from katakana) is also translated as Shaberryman.

    Maid Butler
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shain05_on.jpg
Click here to see their new look in Nice Buddy
The "Crime Department Chief" of Secret Society of Darkness with a white face. Has half-half male and female appearance.

  • Affably Evil: As a proper maid/butler, they're always polite with everyone. In Nice Buddy they take care of Jiro's house while Yabai Kamen is kidnapped by Great-Z.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Calls themselves a maid and a butler on separate occasions, and has quite a range of voice.
  • Animal Motifs: Has horns and a goat belt.
  • Anime Hair: Their new form in Nice Buddy has this in contrast to their usual hair.
  • Berserk Button: Gets enraged when being called a goat, despite the design. Trying to harm Yabai Kamen is also a surefire way of angering them.
  • Costume Evolution: Got quite a significant change in Nice Buddy; for one, more gold is incorporated into the suit, they're wearing a different glasses, the horns got bigger and the hair becomes longer and crazier. Maid Butler achieve this new look due to their sheer devotion to Yabai Kamen during the fight against Great-Z.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Has the right leg covered in armor while the left is in stockings.
  • Ninja Maid: Likes to clean up when not on field, but a competent fighter.
  • Royal Rapier: Wields a rose-decorate one.
  • Starter Villain: The first one Jiro defeats as Rookie, with the help of KitaQMan Metal.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Yabai Kamen and the most proactive to ensure his safety. This is also the secret to achieving their new look.

    Shuraomaru
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/syura_18.jpg
The "External Consultant" of Secret Society of Darkness and a Master of Illusion.

  • Bad Boss: Tells Eboshi Musha to go home since he's completely useless. Fukuokalibur argues that he could actually make a great villain if he tired.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Shuraomaru asks Fukuokalibur how did he know he was Jiro. Jiro attacking Fukuokalibur with a katana was a clear enough giveaway.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Fights with a classic one.
  • Body Snatcher: Possesses Jiro while disguising as Yuki, and later attacks Fukuokalibur as Jiro.
  • Ninja: Has this in appearance and abilities.
  • Pride: Takes his status as a villain seriously and thinks Eboshi Musha only embaresses herself.
  • Psycho for Hire: A traveling shinobi and has his own show, but here he's part of the villains.
  • Foreseeing My Death: Right before the duel Great-Z, he melodramatically says that he can "smell death". While can be applied to either, Shuraomaru is the one who gets defeated.
  • The Stoic: Outside of the interactions with Eboshi Musha, he lacks comedic traits and does his job professionaly.
  • Worthy Opponent: In Nice Buddy he considers KitaQMan Metal to be this.

    Eboshi Musha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shain08_on.jpg
"General Manager of Business Department" for Secret Society of Darkness. Has a suit of a warrior monk with a cloth covering his face.

  • Dramatic Unmask: Has a pretty girly face, which amuses Fukuokalibur.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Other villains pretty much ignore him, and in the strategy meeting his portrait is separate from the rest of the group.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Debuts in episode 5, but allegedly appeared among mooks in the first fight.
  • Harmless Villain: Loses the Golden Seal power along with the mask in a brief flashback. When he meets Fukuokalibur the second time, he surrenders immediately while Fukuokalibur can't even remember him.
  • Token Good Teammate: He's really weak as a villain and later helps Yuki escape.

    Uzagi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shain15_on.jpg
A rabbit mascot of Secret Society of Darkness. Looks like a normal hand puppet, which is only a mask of her true body.

  • Ambiguous Gender: The rabbit plush has a female voice, but Shadow has a masculine.
  • Batter Up!: Defeats El-Brave in their first fight with a baseball bat.
  • Fast Ball Special: Shadow often throws Uzagi as an attack.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Asks construction workers for their excavators nicely while already threatening them.
  • Guardian Entity: Shadow is a being that is part of Uzagi, often appears when fighting. As seen in High School, it can act as an independent entity but is mostly at a lost without Uzagi.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Suffers Curb-Stomp Battle by civilians and then by El-Brave, before revealing her true appearance.
  • Ninja Prop: Her gimmick is primarily based on this, with the black-clad individual seeming to be just a puppeteer meant to be ignored, but is in fact literally Uzagi's true form waving a more friendly-looking puppet around.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: El-Brave pities her for being weak, tiny and cute, right before she reveals that it's actually neither of those.
  • Punny Name: Her name sounds like a word for rabbit.
  • Team Pet: Looks like a rabbit doll with giant head for most of the time, the real body is actually a man in black spandex.
  • Verbal Tic: Says "~Kyamo" as habit.

Demon Wolf Monsters Gulf and Gallia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cast_gulf_gallia_spjpg.jpg
A pair of werewolves who act like street thugs. Gulf is the scary one from Osaka and Gallia is the cute one from Tokyo.

    Nectaris
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shain13_on.jpg

A knight villain from Osaka who likes fighting.

Introduced in Nice Buddy

    Riku Hanagata/Galaxy Nova Great-Z/Great- 2

Portrayed by: Katsuhiro Suzuki (live), Seiji Takaiwa (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cast_great_z_spjpg.jpg
GREAT-Z! FLAME IN! "I'll show you true justice!"
Great-Z as seen in High School

The newest hero in the long-running Great Series, Riku is looking for a villain for his upcoming TV show; He found him in Yabai Kamen. Using his Affect System technology, Riku as Great-Z intends to clean the heroism and justice that has been "perverted" by the Dogengers, believing that his brand of justice is the real one. The first step towards this goal is to kidnap Yabai Kamen and the rest of the Secret Society of Darkness to be villains of his show.

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Joining Dogengers against Yabai Kamen, Riku's father gives him the power from Great-A to Great-Z, evolving him into Great-2. This form became his default form comes High School.
  • All the Other Reindeer: Riku's dad was bullied in school for liking superheroes, which still holds effect on his mentality.
  • Anti-Villain: He doesn't have great plans for Fukuoka or even anything illegal, he's here just to promote his Show Within a Show. Though physical violence of Dogengers for interfering goes further and further over the line.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: He asks Jiro why he even became a hero. Jiro just thinks it's cool, something he believed in too as a kid.
  • Attention Whore: He's interested being a TV star and looking the best while at it, more than anything.
  • Big Bad: Of Nice Buddy.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Riku tells his dad to take medecine and go to sleep.
  • Captain Morgan Pose: Does this with a pile of Color Me, as a homage to Great-A.
  • Cerebus Retcon: All the Lampshade Hanging of him being The Comically Serious stop being funny when you learn that this is an old man who'd rather die but make his dream come true. Even Ohgaman's catchphrase that had no use in the series echoes since medicine and sleep are exactly what he hasn't been taking.
  • Consummate Professional: Riku's dad spent his entire life as the CEO and actor of Hanagata SFX, and considering his poor health, would likely die as the hero he created.
  • Corporate-Sponsored Superhero: He's the mascot of Pizza Cooc, a pizza chain in Fukuoka.
  • Collective Identity: Great-Z is in fact two people, Riku provides the voices, sometimes wears a lower quality suit for stage shows and helps out as a stagehand, but the man who is actually in the suit is his dad.
  • Definitely Just a Cold: Great-Z sometimes spaces out, which tells something's wrong with him even if he denies it. Riku's father is an old diabetic with strong need of medecine, and would rather fight with all he has left than relax for a while.
  • The Determinator: Great-Z is the greatest hero that would never lose, and even a disease isn't allowed to hinder that idea.
  • Engineered Heroics: He has Yabai Kamen forced to be the villain of his next show, while treating him like a punching bag on and off camera.
  • Foreshadowing: The Great Series is created by Hanagata SFX studio. That's a familiar name.
  • Freudian Excuse: In school, Riku's dad was mocked for drawing superheroes, after which he decided to create a popular superhero franchise, no matter what.
  • Greater-Scope Paragon: Riku's dad created and starred in Great Ace, which inspired Jiro and possibly Ohgaman to become heroes in the first place.
  • Graceful Loser: Dogengers enter Riku's father's flashback and find his early drawings. While he'd rather die than show something so shameful again, they instead praise him, and admit that they've all have started as cheap wannabes. This finally calms Great-Z down.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Understanding that Dogengers just have a different sense of justice, Riku fully joins them and dad provides support after Passing the Torch.
  • Hero Antagonist: Yes, he does want to save the world. But he comes closer to a villain over how he wants to be the only one to save it. Thankfully, he realized the error of his ways.
  • Holier Than Thou: Has very low opinion of Dogengers for them not acting like proper heroes would. His tolerance of them only goes lower over time.
  • Humongous Mecha: Super Infinite Change: DX Great Daizenshin.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • He blows up KitaQMan's Cool Car just to make a point he's not going to cooperate.
    • He mocks El-Brave for "embracing his weaknesses" and that great heroes should instead overcome it. KitaQMan of all people promptly tells him to shut up.
  • Legacy Character: The latest in the long-running Show Within a Show Great Series that Tanaka and El-Brave used to watch as kids. The action figure that Tanaka played with in his childhood in particular is that of the first hero of the series Great Ace. Riku himself would later on become the second Great-Z after taking over the mantle from his father.
  • Manipulative Editing: When Dogengers interfere with his filming, he uses holograms to hide Secret Society of Darkness members and declared Dogengers being them in disguise to have an excuse to fight them.
  • "Not So Different" Remark:
    • Both Riku and Jiro grew up watching The Great Series and they both feel indebted to it.
    • Dogengers tell him that they all had the same origins, kids with passion who nobody took seriously.
    • Great-2 told Mako how he's just ordinary compare to others (especially his father). Not to mention him trying to not open up to Dogengers until he can find confidence in his newfound skill. Mako is able to relate to this as she too is also under similar predicament.
  • Overly Long Gag: His Finishing Move requires pressing buttons and moving trinkets on his suit in a typical Toku fashion, except there are over dozen of them in the sequence. Lampshaded by the others who find it annoying.
  • Profanity Police: Riku's dad asks to watch his language. This remark even made into credits card.
  • Redemption Demotion: Discussed in High School as KitaQMan questions how Great-Z (Now Great-2) has lost his edge ever since he joined Dogengers with him even noting the usual trend of a strong foe becoming weaker after joining the heroes. This is because the one under the suit is Riku instead of his father, who's still very green when it comes to being a hero. Doesn't help that he hides his secret from them.
  • Science Hero: His suit is equipped with drones that can project holograms and teleport people, called Affect System.
  • Smug Super: With 25 prior Greats behind him, he has built quite the reputation, and the ego. Or so it seemed, when we learned Mr. Hanagata, Sr. was just coping with the fact life was catching up to him and feared everything he created would be lost.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Riku wants to support his father's dream so he asks to do as much as he can so the father wouldn't overexhaust himself, though his acting isn't as good.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: He accuses Dogengers for not taking the For Great Justice seriously, going up to world peace in his rant. They are just local heroes who help the townsfolk and keep (mostly) Laughably Evil Secret Society of Darkness from causing trouble, which they do fairly well.

Mobile Furniture Store Type: Sekikaguoh # 208
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3rd_sekikaguoh208_1040x780jpg.png

Dogenger's own giant robot. Originally a furniture store that serves as the group's new home, it was modified by Ohgaman to counter Great-Z's giant robot the Great Daizenshin.

  • Expy: Visually resembles a cross between The-O and Nightingale.
  • Humongous Mecha: Equal to Great Daizenshin in size.
  • Motion-Capture Mecha: Ohgaman told Yamashiron that all of his movements are linked to the robot, so anything Yamashiron does inside is enough to make Sekikaguoh moves or perform certain attacks.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: This is how Yamashiron "pilots" the big bot since his movements are linked to it; doing simple chores like cleaning and cooking. By splitting himself into three and performing harder tasks, Yamashiron is able to make Sekikaguoh grow stronger.
  • Transforming Mecha: From a furniture store to a giant robot.

"I have to do something out-of-the-ordinary for once!"

High school student Mako Yamada can be best described as "ordinary." Everything from her grades, her preference in foods, to her favorite type of person screams ordinary. After being selected to be in charge of her school's cultural festival due to being such an average girl, she knew she has to do something extraordinary for once in her life. Things got interesting when she attracted the attention of Shaberryman. Whe he kidnaps Yamada for ransom, she was saved by a spirit named Kireko, who can transform into a magical sword. When Yamada unsheathes the sword she transformed into a new hero named MAKO. With her newfound power, Yamada decided to look for Dogengers to help her train to become a better hero.

  • Anime Hair: Her pink hair can be seen peeking out of her mask. The official website of FUKUYA Mentaiko reveals that she has an anime-esque face underneath that mask, which looks similar to Kireko.
  • Cat Girl: The main motif of MAKO.
  • Caps Lock: How her superheroine name is written.
  • Corporate-Sponsored Superhero: In real life, MAKO is sponsored by FUKUYA Mentaiko, a mentaiko restaurant chain.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Has pink hair when transformed and is a very nice girl.
  • Supporting Protagonist: While she is not a part of the Dogengers yet, she is the protagonist and viewpoint character of High School since Rookie is no longer a newbie hero.

"Let's go forth, my lady!"
A ghost who recently awaken after hearing the cry of Mako Yamada. Once awakens, he transformed into a sword to help Mako fend off Shaberryman. Since then, he swore his loyalty to Mako and will always help her in anyway he can. Strangely has no recollections of his past life...

  • Amnesiac Hero: He can't remember anything past his recent awakening. He does acknowledge that he is a ghost, at least
  • Cool Sword: He can manifest one from the user's own heart, allowing Mako to suit up when unsheathed.
  • Friendly Ghost: He's on the side of good.

    Koujin Ex

An overly cheery hero of Kagoshima Prefecture.

  • Ascended Extra: After making cameo appearances in the previous two seasons, this hero is set to be part of the main cast in the third season.
  • Dumb Muscle: He's got easily the best build out of the Dogengers, but quite evidently, is not the brightest.
  • Genki Guy: Overlaps with Meaningful Name, Koujin Ex is the leader of an emotion-based Sentai, and Ex stands for Excitement.
