Edited by FarquarRonaldsopenAnalysis Page misused? (in addition to a stub)
The page Analysis.Tribute to Tic Taw showed up today in addition to the stub main page (no tropes at all), both created by a single troper, Farquar Ronalds (these are their only edits thus far.) I have sent a stub notifier for the Main namespace page already, but I'm fairly sure this analysis page is misused too.
Should it be sent to the cutlist?
Edited by FlorienopenUnexplained mass revert
Tropers/20person just reverted a huge number of valid edits to The Last of Us (2023) S1 EP3 "Long, Long Time" for seemingly no reason with no edit summary. It happened in one big edit several edits into them adding and tweaking some entries on the page, so it may have been an accident, but the only restoration they did was the entry they added before the revert and they seem to have moved on to a different subpage afterwards. I’m planning to send a notifier but not sure which is appropriate
Edited by Dirtyblue929openFinishing my problems
I hope i can get replies here faster than through P Ms or Forum.
I already created a thread here about russian translation few days ago and since then I've been working on that. So now i have some defined problems.
First one is editing the pages. When i'm tryna do it, all Cyrillic symbols convert into HTML code, so it's a bit complicated to correct them. Though I think i can first edit them in Word or smth then copypaste into an actual article. Also, I found a guy on Translations Forum who made a Java Script script which may help.
The second is that if you type russian letters in Search, it, again, converts them into HTML code, so it's impossible to find article in russian without use of alternative titles in english or translit, or without making a list of all translated articles. Either variant is not really useful, especially for those who don't know english or translit.
Assuming all that, it looks like making a russian translation of TV Tropes is pointless until problem with Unicode isn't solved. But I thought that it has a point to already have an archive of translated articles for the case of problem being solved in future, so that archive would be copypasted into a section or something like this(like just getting rid of problem with searching and editing immediately after the fix).
Am i on the right way of thinking? What do you think about it?
EDIT: OK, i didn't want to write it, but i need answers ASAP. Please
Edited by DopamineMess-14-qqresolved Edit reasons and spoilers
I've seen a few unhappy comments (and received one PM) about edit reasons that refer to the same page's spoilers.
My understanding is that although it's possible to spoiler tag an edit reason, anyone looking at page history (or editing the page) is going to see the spoilers anyway, so this doesn't add much value & doesn't seem to be encouraged?
And editing a spoiler example without explaining the edit (due to the spoiler) also seems like a bad thing, and is against the usual customs.
Is there a consensus on how we handle this? Should edit reasons use spoiler tagging?
openPage quote changed without discussion
On January 19th, 2023, Ordovice changed to page quote of For the Evulz from this:
To this:
There was no edit reason. Should I edit QuoteSource.Live Action Films to reflect the change, or should the edit be reverted?
openWalkthrough Mode?
On Genshin Impact character pages, zero5889 (edit history here) has been adding paragraphs to playable character profiles listing their required ascension materials the player needs to level them up. For example, on Characters.Genshin Impact Mondstadt, they added this paragraph to Barbara's profile.
Isn't this Walkthrough Mode? Even then, personally, I don't see a point in adding this kind of info to character profiles anyway since TV Tropes is not a guide to help players do certain stuff in games. What do you think? Edited by VintageEmma
open REALLY Gross joke in a Troper Page
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tropers/EPIC
I have nothing against This Troper (LOL!) but this is GROSS.
"Rape The Dog., but you have to eat it too."
GOD. I know this is an obscure Troper (Except being famous for the 33 pencils meme Troper Tale) and all I have to do to end the nightmare is look away but this is awful.
openWhy was Where Is Anne Frank cut? Western Animation
I just noticed that the page for the 2022 animated film Where Is Anne Frank which I created last year has been cut. Was there any reason for this film to be deleted?
openSpoiler Markup in Recap
YMMV.Steven Universe S 1 E 20 Coach Steven
- Harsher in Hindsight:
- When Lars and Sadie laugh off Steven's seemingly minor bruise under its disproportionate amount of bandaging, Steven claims the damage is mostly internal to save face. Come Steven Universe: Future episode "Growing Pains", we see the claim is more accurate than even Steven realizes.
- Pearl suggests that Garnet fuse with her instead of Amethyst. "Cry For Help" reveals that Pearl is addicted to the power high she gets from fusing with Garnet.
Recap pages don't allow spoiler markup, and I believe policy is anything that spoils future works such it needs spoiler markup should be removed. HarsherInHindsight.Steven Universe exists so I assume any SU recap page examples, of which I suspect there are many, should be put/moved there instead?
If these shouldn't be under the recap, should the pages be cut if there are no other YMMV items?
openWhy was the Audience-Alienating Ending page locked?
I noticed this morning the page was locked and I was wondering as to why as I had entry ideas I wanted to add. And where can I reliably send my entry ideas for approval?
Edit: Nevermind the page is fine now.
Edited by Mariofan99openTroper "Mustelon" Creating "Placeholder" Pages?
I just launched Outcast Refuge today and I noticed that a brand new user (no edits prior to today) "Mustelon" is going through and creating sub-pages (Analysis, Haiku, Image Links, Playing With) while just leaving "placeholder" there.
Their edits list is just doing this to recently launched tropes: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/el.php?findfor=Mustelon
I know blank things and placeholders (like empty folders for example) is generally frowned upon. Is this allowed? Feels cluttering.
openTitle
Me again! At the moment I don't have much difficulty with the page, but I don't know where I have to go to name it. Here the link: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Fanfic/SomeTitle.
openWhere to link this page? Literature
ContinuityPorn.Fate Strange Fake has not been crosswicked on Continuity Porn, but I'm unsure if it should go under example subpages when its parent medium (literature) is only a folder and if it should instead be linked there or not.
openACI: no longer valid/time before answering?
- Alternative Character Interpretation: The Chozo commander that kills the SR388 Chozo at the end of the Chozo Memories gallery. Is it a rogue Chozo? Or an executioner carrying an exemplary punishment for the Metroid outbreak? Or was it just suspicious that the SR388 Chozo could be X Parasites mimicking them? Heck, could it be interested in the potential of the X or the Metroids just like the Galactic Federation, but faced opposition from the SR388 Chozo (thus, it had to kill them)? This was left up in the air until Metroid Dread picked up this cliffhanger and gave proper context of this 11th Memory.
Dread has answered that, said rouge Chozo being such a Love to Hate villain fans have embraced it to the point there's no longer dissenting fanon that would make outdated ACI relevant nowadays (if morphed to ACI on if/the degree they were evil before crossing that line). I've seen ACI cut when it was mid-work speculation disproven as it went on. So what to do?
Should this be moved to Canon Fodder as it was a Sequel Hook so was meant to be addressed/have a finite window for fan speculation? If so how long do we give works to answer such before ACI is valid?
openSeparate page for Stupid Invaders? Videogame
Hi, this isn't really a question so much as a suggestion, but I think there should be a page for the video game Stupid Invaders. Its examples are currently listed under the cartoon it was adapted from, Space Goofs. I believe there are enough tropes and differences from the show in Stupid Invaders to warrant its own page. However, if anyone objects, I understand completely.
open Hilarious in Hindsight Misuse? Videogame
Asking this to avoid an Edit War as I added the original entry back in the day. Shortly after Xenoblade Chronicles 2 released, I noticed a similarity between its main heroines and those in Time and Eternity and added Hilarious in Hindsight entries to both pages. The one on the Xenoblade 2 page got removed as "Hindsight entries go on the 'before' page," and there've been no problems until a few days ago when Saturn 500 removed the YMMV.Time And Eternity version with just the edit reason of "Misuse."
- Hilarious in Hindsight: A kind and very attractive redheaded woman shares the same body with a much more aggressive blonde woman who both can kick the stuffing out of people on a regular basis. The main male lead is killed off and is revived by the special power the two women possess and both are involved with some kind of cute dragon mascot. Are we sure this is Time and Eternity and not Xenoblade Chronicles 2?
If there's a Hilarious in Hindsight cleanup thread, I'm not aware of it. Otherwise, thoughts?
openRoguelike war?
At VideoGame.Vampire Survivors
- Beansidhe: replaced "roguelike" with "shoot'em up"
It's not a roguelike in any sense unless you call, like, Asteroids a roguelike
- MsOranjeDiscoDancer: appends "with roguelite elements"
Kotaku and IGN refer to it as a roguelite
- Beansidhe: removes that with odd edit reason
It doesn't have roguelite elements, good god, even the maps and enemies are premade. Square peg, round genre
Is this editwarring?
openFoodPorn last sentence removed without edit reason Film
So someone removed the last sentence of Food Porn example in The Menu for no reason . So I tried pm the op Captain Crawdad with edit reason but they ignore it, so I try it again. But they still ignore it. What to do with it? Should I put it back?
Edited by Bubblepig
Regarding the Dead Space remake, there's considerable differences with the characters that I propose a separate page be made, like with Resident Evil 2.
