Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

I think there isn't that much support for articles in other languages beside English right now. You'll have to work with what's here now. Instead of relying on search, why don't you make some translated pages and make an index for those pages (see In italiano for how the Italian translators did theirs)?
It has been a problem since forever. I doubt that it will be resolved until 2.0 is released, wich is to say, not any time soon.
I'd say don't bother yourself with it. Articles will change a lot during this time, and all this work will go to waste.
"I think there isn't that much support for articles in other languages beside English right now" I know, it's obvious
"Instead of relying on search, why don't you make some translated pages and make an index for those pages (see In Italiano for how the Italian translators did theirs)?" I'm planning to do it as well, it's just that it's still not really useful.
My biggest question is about an archive.
"Articles will change a lot during this time, and all this work will go to waste."
What do you mean? Russian articles? I doubt that. And once again, isn't archive a good thing, just an archive which will lay here until good times?
I don't think we have an archive beside the one Russian Home Page article already published.

It's me who did it! *ba-dum-tss*
I mean, I'll create this archive, archive of, at least Tropes Of Legend, translated into russian. Do you understand now? It doesn't exist yet, i'll create it.
So? Is it a good idea?
Unnecessary humor makes it harder to respond to you.
Anyway, wiki not supporting another languages, it not entirely true. The wiki pages when saved will show non-English characters (see Three Bogatyrs and other Eastern European Animation), however most of the site's functions still use the older Unicode encoding, so the characters that aren't on the support table as saved by their value. They are still saved, but each of the site's menu can attempt to display them differently.
Since I've just found out that "Page Source" does display Cyrillic while "Edit Page" does not, I can suggest copying the Source (URL with ?action=source), working on it in whatever local notepad, then copying it into edit menu to save.
People have trouble answering about archive because we don't know what that means. We have "archived pages" and it's very unlikely what are you referring to. I believe you are suggested to make Ru.In Russian as a list of pages you've worked on so far.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupOK, thanks for reply, Amonimus, and for ideas too, I appreciate it. By archive i mean that i just take a bunch of articles in english, translate them and post on this site, making an index for them as well. I used "archive" because this set of articles won't be very comfortable to use with those problems with Unicode, so, as i said, the main purpose is to just lay until good times come (2.0). In short, just saving some time for future translators. Does this makes any sense?
Edited by DopamineMess-14-qq^^^^ Oh it was you. Since it looked enough like a standard translated Home Page, I didn't look into how old it is.
I think I understand... You are working with what TVT can give you now, right?
Rather i simply don't have a choice. Just tell me what do you think about this "archive idea". Does that really makes any sense?
I have no opinion of it. Do what you want to do.
I mean, in the future, can it really be used the way i described?
Sounds logic, and honestly dont see why you couldnt do it. Just be prepared if some pages recieve a big overhaul and need to be rewritten.
But beware pal, 2.0 will take years to be developed, so dont expect it anytime soon.
Yo soy el futuro, luwawanu mu sadila kisalasala kio.
I hope i can get replies here faster than through P Ms or Forum.
I already created a thread here about russian translation few days ago and since then I've been working on that. So now i have some defined problems.
First one is editing the pages. When i'm tryna do it, all Cyrillic symbols convert into HTML code, so it's a bit complicated to correct them. Though I think i can first edit them in Word or smth then copypaste into an actual article. Also, I found a guy on Translations Forum who made a Java Script script which may help.
The second is that if you type russian letters in Search, it, again, converts them into HTML code, so it's impossible to find article in russian without use of alternative titles in english or translit, or without making a list of all translated articles. Either variant is not really useful, especially for those who don't know english or translit.
Assuming all that, it looks like making a russian translation of TV Tropes is pointless until problem with Unicode isn't solved. But I thought that it has a point to already have an archive of translated articles for the case of problem being solved in future, so that archive would be copypasted into a section or something like this(like just getting rid of problem with searching and editing immediately after the fix).
Am i on the right way of thinking? What do you think about it?
EDIT: OK, i didn't want to write it, but i need answers ASAP. Please
