openAlnair20aug93 is Necro'ing Launched Drafts in TLP
Sorry, but alnair20aug93 has bumped a launched draft in TLP for some reason. They did this in February 2017 and they did it again today, except the trope was launched in 2013. The trope is Limited Lyrics Song and the bumped draft can be found here.
I don't understand why they're doing this, but it doesn't seem kosher to bring back launched drafts to TLP. I'm not even sure how it was done.
open GOLDEN/BLOND hair girl and bald man trying to steal her hair / OLD CARTOON .- NAME? Film
I'm looking for cartoon/name, it's and older cartoon..probably 70-80-90's..it was about a little girl with short golden hair, that I think lived in the some sort of magical forest with her mushroom friends protecting her against bald man who was always trying to steal her hair so he could wear it, he always pictured him self in the mirror with her hair but always failed to steal it from her. anyone know the name of that cartoon plz???
open When the villain attempts to place responsibility on the hero Film
Very often in action films, there will be a scene where the villain has captured some hostages, or is about to release the super-weapon, and says that the The Hero will be morally responsible for all these deaths unless The Villain gets what he wants. This is obviously wrong as The Villain is both practically and morally responsible for their own actions.
Is there an existing Trope that describes this? It is similar to Accomplice by Inaction, but it is more about misplaced morality/responsibility.
Edited by StrangeopenWrong Link
The link for the image for Cowardly Lion erroneously goes to Luigi's Mansion, when the image is of two pieces of art from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Is it okay for me to fix it?
openChekovsGun vs CheckhovsGun
I am currently in the process of cleaning up 170ish links to Chekovs Gun that were meant to go to Chekhov's Gun (help appreciated). I know there have been several TRS threads on this topic over the years that all get shut down based on word or admin. Does Fast Eddie's decree that nothing will ever be done to fix this issue still hold? I get that it is a joke, but is permitting sinkholes that get wikiwalkers lost really part of the joke?
In my opinion if Chekovs Gun is even worth keeping (debatable) it seems like it should either be redlinked or at the least Main.Chekovs Gun should be a disambig between Main.Chekhovs Gun and JustForFun.Chekovs Gun to hopefully slowdown the accidental sinkholes.
open Question about Spoiler Character pages Anime
I have a quick question regarding spoiler character pages, such as Characters. One Piece Spoiler Characters. Is this in violation of the Handling Spoilers policy, and if it is, should it be cut listed?
Edited by gjjonesopenAmuck Cricetine
Amuck Cricetine appears to be Cross Wicking tropes, by copying tropes from various trope pages and subpages to work pages. Which is all well and good except that they don't appear to be checking whether the tropes are being used correctly, or whether it has already been removed from said.
For example this Dork Age example that was on YMMV.Doctor Who that they added:
was deemed not to be a proper example by the Is This An Example thread. They seem to have copied it from DorkAge.Live Action TV since the example is also on that page and has been so since Sep 2017.
And on Trivia.Sonic Sat Am this example:
was deleted because lalalei2001 couldn't find anything to corroborate that this was true. Amuck has since added this example to the page:
openStar Wars Expanded Universe Film
The Star Wars Expanded Universe page includes the theatrical Star Wars films, all of them dating back to Star Wars in 1977.
It would seem logical that the theatrical films should not be on the Franchise index for Expanded Universe. The film are base canon (or whatever you'd call that). The Expanded Universe is everything else that's grown out of the theatrical features—cartoons, radio dramas, books, comic books, the Holiday Special, blah blah blah. You can't expand something from itself.
EDIT: The movies are also in Star Wars Legends.
Edited by jamespolkopenWhat counts as a spoiler for ''Naruto''?
I've seen plenty of examples that offhandedly mention Naruto's parents, Naruto's relationship with Kyuubi (and Kyuubi's name), Tobi's identity, Itachi's twist, etc despite them being relatively late series spoilers. Some people spoiler the Official Couples (even in Boruto examples), others don't.
What should be spoiled and what shouldn't be?
open Kids TV Show Anime
I remember watching this tv show as a little kid and now I can't find it. It was animated and I believe ran on Cartoon Network during the Saturday mornings. I think it was during the specific kids show time from like 7-11 or something. It was about three kids who went on quests to retrieve these powerful gemstones or whatever to put into their book. I believe this was the only way to take them back to their own world or soemthing. It has a medical vibe to it and one of the characters (male) had green hair. Do any of you know what it is?
resolved The Ugly Barnacle Western Animation
Since The Ugly Barnacle page is based on a joke from SpongeBob SquarePants, should it be in the Just for Fun namespace?
openReality Ensues and Subversion misuse?
From Fanfic.Friendship Is Failure:
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Subverted by Strings and Helper Soul who only care about the fact that Cadance and Twilight Velet respectively didn't marry them.
- Reality Ensues: Like with Starfleet magic this is Mykan's goal with this series. But as pointed out, it's less about "Reality Ensuing" and more about him getting petty revenge on the characters.
Is the former a subversion since it makes no reference to setting up the trope in the first place? And if they failed it successfully invoke Reality Ensues, Is it an example as this trope is about it unfolding in-universe? (It also lacks any specific examples and seems to exist only for writer bashing.)
openYu-Gi-Oh video games Videogame
Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories is famous/infamous among YGO fans for its difficulty and balance issues, but has the benefits of awesome music, an interesting story and characterization, and people who like the challenge said difficulty provides. The game got a sequel, Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses, which had easier difficulty and confusing gameplay (you move your cards around on a tiled map with different terrain effects affecting stats, movement range, and such depending on their type) that was more balanced, but had a less complex story and characterization while still being connected to the first game's story. Many of the cards are the same in both games as well.
Circa August 2017 this edit was put on DOR's YMMV page, added by MBG:
"* Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories was, to put it kindly, crap. Strategy was rock-stupid, balance was flatly nonexistent, the difficulty was a brick wall conquered only by monotonous grinding, and the gameplay was profoundly unfun. Its only advantages were its somewhat novel story mode, its animations, and capturing some of the feel of Duelist Kingdom. Duelists of the Roses, filling the Spiritual Successor role, features actual balance, a card pool large enough to pursue any number of unique strategies, a reasonable level of difficulty, and actually fun gameplay, while giving two story campaigns, better animations, and one of the best interpretations of the Duelist Kingdom rules in the franchise."
On February 20 I noticed the entry and thought that was unfair to FM fans who genuinely liked the first game, so I changed it to this with the edit reason "Believe it or not, FM's legendary difficulty is a big part of why people like it":
"* Contested Sequel: Some see Forbidden Memories as a better game, while others think this game is superior. They share similar rulesets and cards, and are connected storywise. While some prefer Forbidden Memories' story and difficulty, others prefer Duelists of the Roses' unique gameplay and better card pool."
On May 22 Contested Sequel was deleted and it was put back as this by MBG 159 without an edit reason:
"* Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories was, to put it kindly, crap. Strategy was rock-stupid, balance was flatly nonexistent, the difficulty was a brick wall conquered only by monotonous grinding, and the gameplay was profoundly unfun. Its only advantages were its somewhat novel story mode, its animations, and capturing some of the feel of Duelist Kingdom. Duelists of the Roses, filling the Spiritual Successor role, features actual balance, a card pool large enough to pursue any number of unique strategies, a reasonable level of difficulty, and actually fun gameplay, while giving two story campaigns, better animations, and one of the best interpretations of the Duelist Kingdom rules in the franchise.
- Contested Sequel: That said, there's a sector of the fanbase that prefers Forbidden Memories, on the basis of the aforementioned difficulty and having a somewhat less silly story mode."
I didn't want to edit war, so I'm taking it here. You guys got any advice?
Edited by lalalei2001openlanguage specific trope
I was thinking of starting a drafts for a trope, but it would be "What's Wrong With Argentina", which is specific to Spanish language works especially dubs and Argentinian works. Is it OK to propose it, even though the concept would be unfamiliar to a lot of people on the site? Specifically, normal words and slang words in different Spanish dialects are often used as dirty words in Argentinian Spanish, which makes for hilarious possible translations and accidental innuendo in dubs rendered for all of Spanish/Latin/South America.
openRed Link Assist
I'm new to this cite, and I'm trying to set up a red link so I can give a fanfic a tropes page, but it's not working. It worked for the first fanfic I gave a tropes page, but now it won't work. Is it a glitch on the cite?
Edited by SeptimusHeapopenUnable to Follow Instruction on Pages Needing Example Context
I finished fixing the Memes page for Courage the Cowardly Dog by adding context to out-of-context quotes and removing every quote that was either redundant or wasn't notable enough to be memetic.
The heading of the Pages Needing Example Context index does ask to remove pages once zero context problems have been fixed, but I cannot edit the article to do so because the page is locked, and there aren't any instructions on what to do about pages that no longer suffer from zero context problems when the Pages Needing Example Context index is locked.
Will I have to request the Meme page's removal from the index on the edit request thread?
openOdd Edit (Possible text replacement?)
Servitor_2152made an edit to the Warhammer 40,000 Other Imperial Factions character page that added a  symbol before a bunch of apostrophise. There are a lot of them so it could be a text replacement thing but I am not sure.
openIt seems useless to trope "Nice cat" examples there.
Does there really need to be a "Subversions, Inversions, and other Exceptions" section on Cats Are Mean?
What account details can other tropers see from our own accounts?
