Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Don't misquote me Nwot... if they were always "evil" but capable of positive qualities we wouldn't be having this conversation. Their "positive qualities" consist of sacrificing themselves to an evil god to bring about mayhem. They can get smarter, trickier and more knowledgable but nothing indicates the fundamental problem of them all ultimately being devoted to the same thing with no evidence they can really care for anything beyond the idea of getting to expand the Rape, Pillage, and Burn mentality baked into their minds.

43 had an idea to use Muzan's summary sentence for the whole tree. So, the other 3 entries are fine, but:

  • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Throughout this dark world, the following demonstrate the monstrosity of demonkind:
    • Muzan Kibutsuji was born a sickly child in the Ubuyashiki family, but through a doctor's attempts to cure him incidentally became the first and mightiest demon and grew obsessed with his own perfection. Corrupting others into demons by preying on their weakness at their lowest then infecting them using the special properties of his blood, Muzan develops the system where demons feed on humans en masse for power, leading to countless innocent deaths as he maintains this system for over one thousand years, with his blood poisoning and painfully killing any who so much as utter his name. Muzan is also personally responsible for killing the mother and siblings of the young hero Tanjiro Kamado, as well as the demonic transformation of his younger sister Nezuko. When encountered, Muzan escapes notice by turning an innocent man into a demon and siccing him on his wife before killing several other humans in a fit of pique when they trouble him. Muzan orders countless humans slaughtered, and when his subordinates, the Lower Kizuki, disappoint him, Muzan massacres the survivors, deciding they are too weak to survive. Later attempting to massacre all of the Demon Slayers, when Muzan knows death is inevitable he intends to turn Tanjiro into a demon to kill them in his stead. A sadistic, cowardly sociopath predicating a survivalist society of bloodshed to maintain his own safety, Muzan stands responsible for the most death and suffering in the series.

Yeah sadly, cut Goblin Lord.

Next up on S-week-quel (thanks 43), I would like to wish everyone a Happy Witchboard Wednesday.

What Is the Work?

Witchboard 3: The Possession is a 1995 Canadian sequel to the previous two Witchboard movies.

Down on his luck Brian discovers that his landlord has a Ouija board, a witchboard as they were once called. Through usage of it, Brian comes into contact with a demon, who houses an insidious plot of his own. It's up to Brian's wife Julia to stop this demon and save her husband from the forces of demonic evil.

Who Is he?

Kral is a demon residing in the witchboard who seeks to birth a demon of his own, willing to kill and possess multiple bodies until his demon child is born.

What has he done?

Having already possessed Brian’s elderly landlord Francis after he dabbled into the witchboard, Kral (who is also an admirer of the Aztecs’ love of human sacrifice) takes a liking to Brian after finding out he has a young wife able to give birth. So he kills Francis by simply leaping off a high balcony ledge. After an uninteresting subplot that involves Brian trying to use the witchboard to increase the profit margin of some coffee brand he works for (yawn), he’s taken hostage by two evil businessmen who try to cut off his fingers. At this point, Kral finally possesses Brian after he spills some blood on his briefcase (don’t ask), killing the two crazies in the goofiest way possible (death by preserved butterflies, anyone?).

Now possessing Brian’s body (it only took 30 minutes of an hour and 23 minute movie to do so), Kral keeps Brian’s soul locked away in reflective surfaces, his soul completely aware of what’s happening on the outside world, with Kral taunting him every chance he could get by telling him that he’s screwing his wife, even threatening to kill her should she find out about him. “She ain’t the only fertile bitch on Earth.”

Setting his sights on impregnating Brian’s wife Julie, Kral does whatever he can to get inside her pants, cuts off a part of her hair while she’s asleep to perform some dark magic ritual, kills Julie’s friend Lisa after she turns down having sex with him, and worse of all, dons a shitty man-bun haircut. After Lisa gets advice from Francis’ wife Finch on how to stop Kral, Kral shows up and kills Finch by hanging her, then ramming knives into her stomach with his mind. Kral arrives back at Julie’s apartment. He flips her around a bunch with his telepathy, then tries to rape her. Julie tries to kill him, but Kral taunts her with the fact that is she kills him, then Brian dies as well, since it’s his body and all.

So Kral ends up defeated and reveals his true form: a dude in a shitty, goofy demon costume. Brian, now back in his body, fires a crossbow at the demon, causing Kral to evaporate into CGI dust. But as the ending shows, he ain’t fully dead… except this was the last installment of the series, so yeah, he’s dead.

Redeeming Qualities?

Zilch. All that matters to him is having a baby. He doesn’t show any care for having one, he’s not some loving demon who wants someone to love and cherish; he just wants one, period. And if that means having to rape human women to acquire it, then so be it.

Heinousness?

While Kral has to compete with serial killer Carlos, I feel Kral does enough to stand on his own, especially in regards his plans to rape a woman and impregnate her with his child.

Conclusion

I think he’s a keep.

My Witchblade writeups:

Medieval Spawn and Witchblade 2018 comic: The Trinity is a being from another dimension, who managed to find his way to Earth. Spliting itself into three forms of The Mother, The Daughter and Unholy Spirit, The Trinity used its "The Daughter" form to seduce both King Valon and his friend Leith and then convinced Leith to kill Valon. Revealing its true form to Leith, leading to him commiting suicide and becoming Hellspawn, The Trinity began corrupting the lands, spreading the Blight and sending its monsters to attack and kill innocent people. Using its "The Mother" form to kidnap the women of the tribe, which rebelled against her with newly arrived Spawn, it painfully killed them and tried to kill a little girl, who was the current wielder of Witchblade. Later trying to corrupt the wielder of Witchblade to its side, The Trinity attempted to consume the Earth by trying to merge it with the Nightmare Realm.

Witchblade: Blood Oath: Queen Mauve is the high ranking demon, who desired to conquer the Outer Circles of Hell. After being summoned by Gilles De Rais, the lover of Joan of Arc, Mauve made a pact with him, saving Joan from being burned alive in exchange for Gilles becoming the host for her servant demons. Later on Mauve has Gilles sacrifice hundreds of infants to her by torturing, killing and eating them at her altar. When Gilles was hanged for these crimes, Mauve kept him alive and has him to commit various atrocities across history. When Sara Pezzini, the wielder of Witchblade in modern times, offered her services to her, Mauve throwed Gilles aside and was ready to fully manifest on Earth and vaporize three quarters of the Earth atmosphere.

Witchblade: Destiny's Child: Kenneth Irons is an immortal businessman, who is obsessed with the Witchblade. Hiring Ian Nottingham as his personal bodyguard, after beating him in a fight, Irons tortured him to make him learn his place. Then he has him kill people for defying him or to get the magic stuff that he needed. At some point of time, finding out the identity of the future wielder of Witchblade, Sara Pezzini, who was achild at the time, Irons has her kidnapped, tortured, set her on a path to meet him years later and stalked her through the years. Then, setting up his underground laboratory, Irons experiments on several innocent people, with one of his victims being a child. Capturing Sara, Irons desires to transform her into his puppet goddess, who will destroy and create at his command, and use her to Take Over the World.

'Yes' to Kral

Oh, and here's a rewrite of one of my own I've been wanting to do, that's pretty damn clunky and filled with way too many potholes:

  • Patema Inverted: Izamura is the leader of Aiga, a Totalitarian Utilitarian society that he rules with an iron fist. Declaring all "Inverts" to be sinners who deserve to be punished, Izamura regularly eliminates anyone who tries to associate with them or their culture. After capturing Patema, a young Invert girl, Izamura threatens Age, an Aigan boy she befriended, with death unless he "forgets" her, and taunts him about his father's death at Izamura's hands. Psychologically torturing Patema to try to break her into becoming his slave, Izamura develops a disturbing obsession with her, disgusting his second-in-command, Jack. When Patema and Age flee to the underground Invert city, Izamura follows them, tries to kill their Invert friends, then attempts to shoot Jack for saving his own soldiers rather than murder the Inverts. Cornering Age and Patema, Izamura shoots Age in the leg, then states he's going to shoot the rest of his limbs until he can no longer protect Patema. Making one last attempt to claim Patema as "his," Izamura tries to drag her down with him when he falls to his death. A vicious dictator, Izamura was a Knight Templar of the highest, depraved, order.

Rewrite:

  • Patema Inverted: Izamura is the cruel, fanatical dictator of Aiga, determined to oppress and control everything in the city. Having declared all Inverts to be unholy monsters deserving of death, Izamura regularly hunts down and eliminates them or anyone who attempts to protect them, notably murdering Age's father and mocking him about it. Upon brutalizing Age to keep silent about the capturing of the Invert girl Patema, Izamura develops an obsession with Patema, mentally and emotionally abusing her in an attempt to make her his romantic slave. When Patema escapes with Age's help to an Invert hideout, Izamura orders the entire hideout be exterminated and shoots his second-in-command Jack when he refuses. Izamura later corners and tortures Age by shooting his limbs—taunting him that he'll never be able to protect Patema again—and Izamura then tries to drag Patema down with him when he falls to his death, refusing to let her live if he can't have her under his thumb.

Thoughts? If anyone thinks the original is fine then that's cool and I won't push for the rewrite, but as the one who proposed Izamura I would greatly prefer this rewrite.

Yes to Kral. As for Darkseid? Here we go...along with one cut.

Who is Darkseid?

The lord of Apokolips, conqueror of worlds....now, I had previously discussed Darkseid here, so all crimes still apply.

But, as revealed here? Darkseid and his Furies have conquered countless world, slaughtering countless innocents and leaving them burnt out ruins. Now, he wants earth...and in a brutal attack, Cyborg is taken and turned into an Apokolips wall decoration while multiple heroes are killed. Some, such as Starfire, Wonder Woman, etc? Are taken, turned into unholy fusions of machines and forced to serve Darkseid. Batman is brainwashed into darkseid's adviser...and most of earth's heroes are massacred. All the titans, with few survivors, and earth falls. Two years pass, with darkseid reigning over earth, people crushed, killed, the core mined with potentially awful consequences for earth. A small resistance fights on, with Clark meeting up with Raven. Darkseid, for his part, is moving on to conquer and destroy Oa to wipe out the Guardians and hold the rest of the universe as helpless before him.

Sending his forces to ravage the world and kill the heroes...things go damn poorly, with multiple other heroes and resistance members killed. John Constantine attempts to free Cyborg and Darkseid orders the execution of Damian at the hands of his own father. Batman breaks free, when Damian takes a blast of Omega beam for him. On eath, Lois Lane is forced to self destruct her tower to take out the Parademons when her Suicide Squad orces are massacred, Lex Luthor included...darkest hour...and Raven unleashes her father Trigon who uses Clark's body to battle Darkseid.

Now, the heroes free Cyborg who decides to detonate to open a pit to oblivion and drag Apokolips down...the heroes get free, while Trigon elects to stay behind and face Darkseid himself, bidding Raven farewell. The heroes escape as Cyborg blows up, and Darkseid attempts to escape. Only for Trigon to seize him and drag him into eternal oblivion together, Apokolips soon following...

Heinousness?'

Not even a remote question. Darkseid is the most evil villain in the entire movie universe. Countless worlds annihilated, and this is after all he does in Death and Return of Superman. He's Darkseid at his worst.

Mitigating Qualities?

not a thing. Ever since War, he's been given far, far more character and without any of his children or former lovers even being mentioned here. No, nothing to talk about here.

Conclusion?

Darkseid is an easy yes, BUT....

Trigon is a cut. He opts to sacrifice himself against Darkseid for Raven's said, and in their final moment he tells her that the chance to fight Darkseid is a "wonderful git," before telling her to "be well." Raven bids him goodbye gently, and earlier strongly implies that she's learned he cares for her, even if = it's twisted. Black Manta does fight against Darkseid (and is torn apart by Parademons) but this can be explained as just self preservation. Trigon explicitly showcases redeeming qualities and needs to go.

Darkseid stays, Manta can stay (either Pragmatic Villainy or Evil Versus Oblivion), but Trigon seems like a cut. Is it me, or is this EXTREMELY out of character for him?

At least this Darkseid seems to go out fighting instead of not killing Superman when he could've (damn anticlimax).
