Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

He kills Dr. Yueh personally and explicitly orders Rabban to wipe out the Fremen. My memory of the book isn't clear enough to fully differentiate between his actions in the two mediums.

EDIT: This always happens; I write a reply to a question, and somebody's already answered it by the time I'm done. Nevertheless, thanks for answering the question, and good luck with Dune Part Two, Lighty!

[down] Seconded.

Seeing an ep for one of literatures most infamous villains would be great.

Yueh being killed personally isn't different enough, IMO. I ain't saying he's not counting because he does. I just know the next is coming next year that I'll have to update then.

Yes to an EP for Book!Harkonnen.

Aggregor...I'm abstaining, on account of PLEASE break up that Wall of Text into paragraphs. If Ben could control him into allowing them to say goodbye, why couldn't he control Aggregor into not doing evil deeds?

Here's a write-up for Viloch:

Bakugan: Battle Planet: Viloch is an Aurelus Bakugan and member of the Supreme Council whose veneer of refinement clouds an intense hatred towards humanity and lust for power. Enlisting Gregorius Reed and his team of brawlers to fight on his behalf in the Battle Judgment tournament to decide whether Earth and Vestroia should be separated, Viloch plots behind Reed's back to betray him when the moment arises. Causing several Geogan agony as he merges with them against their will, Viloch becomes immensely powerful before turning on Reed and revealing his true plan: to destroy the Earth and everyone on it once it's separated from Vestroia. When his fellow Council members and the Awesome Brawlers try to stop him, Viloch simply steals the power of the Faction Crystals to augment his own and knocks them down with ease. When it seems that he is on the brink of defeat against a similarly-empowered Drago, Viloch tosses his own ally Spartillion in the path of one of his opponent's attacks, callous and uncaring towards his well-being. One of the most vile and atrocious enemies faced by the Awesome Brawlers, Viloch stands out as especially cruel even among similarly powerful foes.

@ACW Ben didn't control him to say goodbye, he just convinced him of letting Ben himself say goodbye in exchange of stay quiet during the travel, also Ben used his control to at least try to stop him from doing evil deeds and actually succeeded sometimes, IIRC the story doesn't completely explain it but for what I got the reason was that Aggregor still had some control (yes Ben completely controlled him the first time but it probably was because Aggregor didn't know that he was alive so wasn't trying to keep him down). And Ben couldn't stop him to fulfill his goal it was because before the final battle he finally got to completely kill Ben (I tough that I included it in the EP but seeing it again I didn't, sorry if that made confusing when I mentioned that he has another temporal murder apart of the canon ones).

I tried to divide the EP in shorter paragraphs.

[down]As I said he is not much different but as that couple of versions of The Joker I think that the few different crimes are bad enough how to justify a separate entry.

Okay, having read the EP...I'm leaning yes, but is he different/worse enough than his canon counterpart?

[up] Eh, that's fair. Sure to him.

EDIT: And with the page for Vitiate having been okayed, the final:

  • The Sith Emperor, born Tenebrae and later known as Lord Vitiate, rose from an illegitimate child of a Sith Lord to the Greater-Scope Villain of the entire franchise. Murdering his father to entrap his soul and take power, Vitiate went on to lure thousands of Sith Lords to his planet, where he forced them to participate in a ritual which empowered him while draining the world of life. As Emperor Valkorion, he brought about the devastating Mandalorian Wars and later caused another war which claimed countless more lives, using sleeper agents to weaken the Republic and trying to destroy entire star system in an attempt to enact a ritual which would allow him to devour all life in the galaxy. Possessing a hero to found yet another Empire on the planet Zakuul, Vitiate manipulated his own children from the possession, having one of his sons murder the other and using his daughter for cruel experimentation. With his "Eternal Empire", Vitiate bound his spirit to the hero the Outlander and initiated a new invasion to cause a galaxy-wide war and caused further chaos by having his now insane daughter take the throne of Zakuul, before allowing for her assassination and leaving the planet in turmoil without a leader. Even his death was not enough to end his evil, as the destruction of his physical body unleashed the lingering traces of his essence, which sought to possess Satele Shan and her followers as its new hosts in one final bid to unleash further suffering on the galaxy.

Yes to Aggregor, and I also have seen Eternals now, just today in fact.

Dune 2021 was really enjoyable to me. And my mum liked it a lot as well. And Harkonnen is vile as heck, like geez they did everything they could to make him unpleasant. I would also be happy for an update on Book!Harky to tide us over a little. And indeed, I think we're OK holding off on his film self. He's very similar to his book self and they've confirmed the next film is set for October 2023. It's not like Spectre and No Time To Die which had a 6 year gap.

I got stuff to do today and things to write so I'm getting this out the way now instead of waiting until midnight.

RWBY High Guardian Spice is a anime cartoon show recently released on Crunchyroll. It focuses on Ruby Rose Rosemary, a teenage girl with a missing mother and her best friend, Sage, attending a magical academy to learn magic. Once they get there, they meet Parsley and Thyme and become Team RWBY Team SPTR.

Lots of things happen that don't advance the plot.

Then the plot kicks in around the end of Episode 7, and Team SPTR realizes they're in danger of being killed by some super secret evil organization called the Triumverate. One of the members is Cinder Fall a blue flame...thing called Smokeface. Another member is a Cat Girl named Olive. And the last notable member is this dude.

Who Is He?

Mandrake is an Ax-Crazy warlock who is working for The Omniscient Council of Vagueness.

What Has He Done?

Mandrake doesn't appear until the season (series?) finale, where he greets Olive and the two banter back and forth. Since Olive failed to kill Rosemary and her allies back in Episode 8 and 9, Mandrake was sent to complete her mission for her. He sneaks into the academy, using his skills as a shapeshifter to pose as Rose's mother, Lavender, and nearly kills her. After he fails and gets into a fight with Professor Ozpin Caraway, he sneaks away while pretending to be Caraway and serves a drink to most of the teachers in the school, which is filled with a sedative that knocks out all of them (he initially thought it was poison but Olive switched it because she doesn't want blood on her hands). Later, he lures most of the students into the same room and locks the door behind them. Olive pleas for Mandrake to spare them, but when Olive isn't looking, he sets the door on fire and leaves.

As the school burns, Mandrake seals up the academy in a dome and lures Team SPTR into the library. They get into a huge fight and Mandrake captures Thyme, but when Mandrake orders Olive to murder Thyme, she stabs Mandrake in the gut instead. Mandrake tries to flee, but the five girls pursue him and another fierce fight begins. Long story short, Mandrake gets his ass kicked and slinks away, the girls save the students and teachers, and the academy burns down.

Mandrake returns to his employers begging for mercy, but Lavender, who is revealed to be working with the villains, tells the Triumverate to execute him.

Does Mandrake die? :O

Will we find out why Lavender is evil? :O

Will Snapdragon fully transition and become female? :O

Will we see more of the adorable and burly Neppy-Cat? :O

Will every single character be revealed to be gay or bisexual or non-binary or transgender or asexual? :O

Will the show get a Season 2? :O

Do people care? :O

All these things will most likely never be answered. :D

Mitigating Factors?

None. Smug Snake, Ax-Crazy, causes wanton, nonsensical, unnecessary destruction, tries to kill teens and kids...

Heinous Standard Factors?

None of the villains do anything except Olive, who accidentally turns several people into stone (this is later reversed). And she has a Heel–Face Turn, so no to her. There is no "implied" or Fridge Horror issue here either. Mandrake explicitly states he intends to kill dozens of innocent teens and kids, and he goes out of his way to (non-lethally) poison various teachers, burns down the campus, and locks dozens of students in a room and leaves them to burn to death.

So pass.

Final Verdict?

Yeah.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.

[up] You're clearly the manager here; you get all the benefits. tongue

@Ordeaux26: I've done this multiple times with other EPs and no one's complained about it. I spent most of my time on Teddy Maddox EP talking about how insanely ludicrous Fear the Walking Dead became and no one said a thing, and I was far more "vocal" about my grievances with that show.

@Michealthehero21: It's not as awful as people say it is. It's mostly just boring at times. Sitting through Season 4 and 5 of Fear the Walking Dead was ten-times more dreadful. And the show does improve from episode 7 onwards, which is something I was thoroughly happy about.

I think Tyk's proposal looks fine. It's definitely entertaining to read

Anywho [tup] to Mandrake and Aggregor. Now then here is my write-up:

  • Black Clover: Baro is a greedy mage hired by The Eye of the Midnight Sun to collect mana. Baro would force his timid submissive brother, Neige, to lure children from Nairn to his hideout where Baro would extract their mana by subject them to torturous experimentation; Baro also leaves one child out to die in the cold when his magic potential was low. Baro would force Neige to fight the Black Bulls when they come to rescue the children and later begs Sally to save him, while planning to abandon her and Neige after Sally frees and pays him.

I think Baro can go below Rades but above Freese in the Black Clover tree.
