Is it time to start the wicks?

So in my wick cleanup, I'm:

  • Keeping any wicks that express an explicit color-contrast between the characters.
  • Moving misused wicks and potholes to a more fitting trope.
  • Removing examples that don't fit a different trope, and don't demonstrate a color-contrast.

My biggest problems are examples like:

I'm unsure if these potholes should be removed or left alone.

Anyway, I looked through all the smaller sections in the Related page, sans DarthWiki/ and Pantheon/.

Going through the Characters wicks, but what should be done about examples like:

They fail to establish a contrast, nor do they fit into any other trope. Should they just be deleted outright?

[up] Lemme guess... is that Characters.Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command? *checks* Yup! My answer is to cut it, although the character images on that page do seem to show a light-dark contrast because Buzz and his allies versus Zurg and his allies.

That was just one example, to be fair. There are plenty more that are just "evil character wears evil colors" or "good character wears good colors", but those colors aren't able to neatly fit into other tropes. I could make that one work if I mention Buzz's colors, but there are other wicks that aren't as easy. I guess those should just be chopped.

Whoo, alright, Characters wicks are done. Brought the count down from 699 to 625 in the process.

I believe Film/, Series/, Video Game/ And Western Animation/ may be the only remaining sections left to fly through.

Alright, Film/ is done.

I gotta say, almost every page I've been to so far has had some glaring issues I'm dying to fix...if not for the fact it'd take hours and I have to focus on wick cleaning.

Cleaned out the British redirect, Good Colours, Evil Colours.

Series/, VideoGame/, and WesternAnimation/ are left, if anyone wants to jump in... anyone at all...

Worked on WesternAnimation/. Some notes:

  • Aladdin: "Blue is good, red is evil. The filmmakers even admitted it." Does this need more context?
  • Astro Boy: "The red and blue cores." I commented this out as a ZCE that could be expanded, given that other examples seem to suggest that this is correct; should it be removed completely?
  • Batman: The Brave and the Bold: "Tornado Champion's Evil Costume Switch to Tornado Tyrant involves him going from the primary colors to black and purple." Given the nature of the series, from my very limited knowledge, is this an example?
  • Clémentine: "Hemera's color is blue, while Malmoth's is red." Looking at the character sheets shows that the former is listed as the Big Good while the latter is listed as the Big Bad; could this suffice by explaining who they are?
  • Code Lyoko: "XANA has a thing for the color red." Does Red Is Violent work here? I don't know the work.
  • Dinotrux: "Most Dinotrux species all share the same colour, but the two T-Truxes Ty Rux and D-Structs are bright red and pitch black, respectively. Meanwhile, all scrap collecting species appear to not be painted at all, and are all shades of grey and rust." Does anyone who's seen the show know if this can even count?
  • Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders has this gem. Help me out here.
  • TUGS: "The Star Tugs are all painted yellow with red, white, and blue smokestacks, while the Z-Stacks are all painted brown with black smokestacks." Morality should be clarified here, too; perhaps someone more familiar with the work can fill me in?
  • The Pebble and the Penguin: "Referenced in Roger Ebert's review of the film. In fact, that's pretty much the entirety of his "review" — just him ranting about this very trope, with only one paragraph that's actually about the freaking movie." Should be rewritten to focus on the movie, not the review.
  • The Thief and the Cobbler: "The Golden City (or Baghdad, depending on which version you're most familiar with) centering on bright colors like gold and white, while the One-Eyes are black and red." Should clarify morality more. Can locations even count?
  • 3Below: "Morando's forces have red as a contrast to the normal Akiridion blue." Who are they, though?

Otherwise, everything else in the namespace is clean.

[up] The ones I can definitively give you advice on are:

  • Batman the Brave and the Bold: That sounds like it'd fit better on Dark Is Evil; it doesn't express a color contrast.
  • Code Lyoko: If there's no context beyond "character likes color", I just typically delete it.
  • Pebble and the Penguin: Rewrite, if we can't, just cut it.
  • Thief and the Cobbler: I think locations can count, if the purpose is to show that certain locations are "good" and others are "bad", but that does need more context.

Generally I've been a bit lenient when it comes to "(evil character) wears (evil color), (good character) wears (good color)" type examples if there's enough context elsewhere to make it clear that, yes, the example is being used correctly even if it's low on context. But in general, if I'm unconvinced something fits and don't know what else to transfer it to, I just cut it.
