The other thread that could help with this as well is the Trope Description Improvement Drive thread, which specializes in fixing bad descriptions.

EDIT: I'll just bring it there and see what they say.

Any reason not to move Persian Mythology to Myth?

I think there could be both: one UsefulNotes.Persian Mythology and other Myth.Persian Mythology, telling more especifically about it

So, in light of us having a UN page for Fermat's Last Theorem, I decided to work on a potential UN page for the Millennium Prize Problems: Sandbox.Millennium Prize Problems. However, I wanted to run it by this thread before I finished it, as I'm not sure that the limited number of work examples regarding them justifies the page's existence. What do you think?

There is an on-going discussion about renaming The Presidents to The Presidents Of The United States in order to avoid americentrism here. The current idea is making a disambiguation page for The Presidents including Presidents of Chile, The Presidents of France and The Presidents of Germany.

Directed here from this ATT thread.

The Solar System subpages may need some cleanup because, as Fighteer pointed out in the Space Thread, they're becoming too comprehensive and Wikipedia-esque in nature, which is not what the UN pages are supposed to be about. There are also numerous cases of Science Marches On notes being added to paragraphs in attempts to keep them scientifically relevant to the latest breaking discoveries, since the study of the Solar System is constantly changing and updating all the time.

[up][up][up]I'm not sure if you already did this, but I typed "Riemann hypothesis" into the TVT search bar and found these work pages that have it in some way: Leopoldstadt, Numberphile, an episode of NUMB3RS, Perplex City, plus others that have offhand references (Funny.Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors, ShoutOut.The Sexy Brutale). Other than that I think the descriptions are a good length.

[up]Is there a list of ones that seem particularly problematic? I didn't check all the subpages, but UsefulNotes.Jupiter and UsefulNotes.Uranus don't have an 'in fiction' section, so I think they can just be merged back into the main one.

~Synchronicity

UsefulNotes.Mercury is good for the most part. The only thing of note that needs to be removed is this note at the end of this sentence, since it's redundant and unnecessary.

-"despite being close to Earth compared to the outer planets, it takes a lot of energy to cancel our home's orbital momentum and "fall in" towards the Sun.note "

UsefulNotes.Venus needs a rewrite because a lot of paragraphs are bloated Walls of Text and there are several clarification notes dotted all over, with some being Science Marches On notices. The two most infamous paragraphs on the page are these:

    Paragraphs - Venus
Much of Venus's surface was shaped by extensive volcanism in its past. Over 90% of its surface is covered in basalt and 65% of the planet consists of relatively flat lava plains with a few highland regions that stand out. Over 1,000 volcanoes have been identified, making Venus the planet with the most volcanoes in the Solar System. However, none of them are currently active, and none have been observed to have erupted recently —explanations include that the intense heat causes the Venusian crust to be malleable compared to Earth's one and magma gets stuck on it having difficulties to reach the surface, as it's unable to break through the crust. The state of Venus's core and whether it is geologically active is rather ambiguous since unlike The Moon, Mercury and Mars (which are all definitively considered dead or almost so), Venus's similar size to Earth should mean that it should still be geologically active today. But what throws a wrench in this theory is Venus's lack of plate tectonics and a magnetic field, which could also indicate that Venus may be geologically deadnote . So far, the only evidence that supports active volcanism on Venus is the high concentration of sulfur dioxide in its atmosphere as well as infrared hot spots observed around Maat Mons and later on others as Idunn Mons having been observed to be bright on the infrared. With Venus's hellish conditions, getting a seismometer on the surface to accurately measure Venus's interior much like Mars's InSight mission would be incredibly difficult to pull off. It does not help either that unlike for both Mars and the Moon, there're no meteoritesnote  known to have come from Venus.

Venus has the slowest rotation out of any planet in the Solar System, and it rotates in a clockwise direction relative to the other planets (meaning it spins backwards). It's not entirely understood why the planet came to be with such an unusual rotation, but one of the theories is that at some point in the planet's early history, a planetesimal struck it at an oblique angle, causing it to rotate very slowly backwards. However, this theory is contested because of the lack of geological evidence on the planet's surface. If such an event did happen, the global resurfacing event some 500-300 million years ago likely erased the evidence. Another more plausible theory is that Venus's original counterclockwise rotation gradually slowed because of tidal interactions with the Sun, but its dense atmosphere created an equilibrium effect to prevent it from becoming tidally locked, hence the reverse rotation. As a result of this super-slow rotation, a Cytherean solar day is longer than a Venusian year (Venus's year is 225 Earth days, its day is 243 Earth days). Not that you'd be able to see much difference between day and night while on the surface. Whether you're on the day side or the night side, you'll see a hazy overcast sky that's about the same brightness everywhere — assuming you survive the lack of oxygen, the crushing pressures, and the hellish temperatures, that isnote . Yet another theory is that Venus actually isn't rotating backwards, but is rotating counterclockwise just like every other planet in the Solar System...except that one or more impacts early in its life (rather than altering the rotation) flipped Venus upside down (a more extreme version of how Uranus got flipped sideways on its axis), meaning that what we've been thinking of as Venus's north pole could actually be its south pole. This slow rotation is also responsible for the current state of Venus's atmosphere. Venus rotates far too slowly to produce a strong magnetic field, leaving the water vapor that was once in its atmosphere vulnerable to dissociation by solar radiation. If circumstances had left Venus rotating at a similar rate to Earth, its magnetic field would be nearly as strong, and then who knows what the planet would be like.

I think UsefulNotes.Earth can be cutlisted entirely because, since most fictional works take place on it, it's just pointless to have around.

I'll get to the other subpages later in order to not bloat this post, though I do agree that UsefulNotes.Jupiter and UsefulNotes.Uranus can be merged onto the main Solar System page.

EDIT: Okay, I think I've done about all I can do with the page without going completely cross-eyed. If it's up to snuff, I'll make it an actual page. Thoughts?

Some games focus on the coins (Crypto Clickers, Crypto Moneya, Dogeminer) and some games can only be bought for them (Fit Fantasy, until it was made free specifically because no-one was willing to put up with all the steps)? Admittedly none of them have pages yet.

Yeah, that's my main issue. There's no "works that involve crypto" bit. At least for all their awfulness, NFT are creative and could be considered works of their own, but bitcoin can't. It has nothing to do with media apart from showing up sometimes, and that's not even mentioned on the page.

Agreed. I still think a page could be worth it, but for now it's probably better off cut until there are works which reference/focus on them.

The one about Earth should be retained. Although it is true that almost all works ever are set on Earth by default, Earth is not always just a trivial background setting. We have This Index Earth with several ways the planet can play a story-relevant weight.

Bit lengthy of a post here, but I've got two things to bring up:

Firstly, I'm gonna turn myself in preemptively regarding the UsefulNotes.Compact Disc page. Long story short, I had a phase on this wiki where I thought "longer = better" (weirdly fitting for a post about the CD page, I know), and ended up turning that page into something that, looking back, is much too long and focuses too much on the multimedia format's use in music (not helped by tropers like David Delony only adding onto that).

I do think having pages on media formats fulfils the "aspects of media creation and delivery" point, but I think a lot of what the CD page eventually became falls outside of that scope. For starters, I think the essay-length folders on the CD format's history, the longbox controversy, the SACD format, and miscellaneous trivia could be heavily truncated and/or cut entirely. The main issue is figuring out how to best rewrite the technical specs and rainbow book folders. Any ideas?
Secondly, a while ago there was an ATT thread about the whole "trans vs. nonbinary" dichotomy in regards to the UsefulNotes.Transgender page, and that got me wondering how to address that — even though "nonbinary" is a sub-category of "transgender" (it's the white stripe on the trans flag), it's also another umbrella term in and of itself.

I asked on the discussion page whether it'd be best to add a section on the Transgender page discussing nonbinary identities, if it'd be better to make a separate page entirely, or if one should Take a Third Option on the matter, but haven't received a response nearly a month later. I'm not eager to do anything preemptively given my past habits on this site, hence why I'm asking here.

Be kind.

Sus Law seems to be focusing more on complaining about English law enforcement and the Tories than how the law is portrayed in fiction. Someone more familiar with British media can comment on whether it shows up enough to make a UN page relevant.

The Holocaust has some major spacing issues that lead to resembling walls of text, as well as a few points that read as editorializing, and thus make the page less cohesive.

Should The CSI Effect be a Useful Note? It's on Main despite not really being a trope, so it seems like a better fit for UN.

Do we need UsefulNotes.Romantic Orientation? It doesn’t really talk about media at all, and even when expanding it myself I couldn’t think of any real media portrayals that are common enough to actually mention.

[up][up] All of the Forces with Firepower have some kind of witty title. While most of them are just "X with Y", some of them have more creative title. Like Romanian armed forces page is called "The Bite of Dracula", Thailand's armed forces are simply called "Thai Fighters", and even the page of Imperial Japan is called "Katanas of the Rising Sun".

Bumping my question about the need for UsefulNotes.Romantic Orientation. I'm inclined to cutlist it, but would rather have some consensus to reference first.
