A romantic orientation is the secondary orientation to sexual orientation. While many have a matching sexual and romantic attractions, some may not, which is why they use romantic orientation labels. This is especially common in the asexual community, where romantic and sexual orientation are often mismatched. Romantic orientation terms are made up of prefixes like those of sexual orientations, but with -romantic instead of -sexual. Some of the more common examples include:
- Aromantic: Aromanticism is not experiencing romantic attraction at all.
- Homoromantic: Homoromanticism means romantic attraction to the same gender.
- Biromantic: Biromanticism means romantic attraction to both genders.
- Heteroromantic: Heteroromanticism means romantic attraction to the opposite gender.
Not much studying has been done on the matter, so information on romantic orientation is limited.
