Fixing zero context examples

The Beautiful Skies of Houou High has quite a bit of ZCE entries, mainly on the YMMV page. Granted, fixing it might be hard due to the manga being blatantly homophobic and misogynistic (and those are not words I throw around lightly- the whole plot is 'mom sends lesbian daughter to academy to cure her lesbianism', and this is not portrayed as a bad thing). Anyone wanna endure and add context?

A little while ago I brought that to the complaining thread, because while the work is horrible, the page is also extremely bashy in addition to being poorly written.

I just went through and commented out the ZCEs I could find on Cyberpunk. Most were to the extent of "[Work] is cyberpunk", "[Work] has cyberpunk elements", or "[Work] combines cyberpunk with [Genre]". None of these provide sufficient context because they don't explain how the work fits the cyberpunk genre or what cyberpunk elements it contains.

The Death Note article is really bad. This is clearly one of the older articles on the site, and many of the entries are copy and pasted from the characters sub-pages.

For example:

• All According to Plan: Light's catchphrase. The most notable instance comes when he regains his memories at the end of the Yotsuba arc.
• Big Brother Is Watching: "It is important to teach our children that Kira is good."
• Big Damn Villains: B.B. is one of Kira's judgments.
• Big Eater: L is constantly eating candy and sweets and stays in a state of gaunt sickly malnourishment. In the manga, he explains that his overactive brain uses up all the calories, while in the anime he claims that "if you do it right" you can eat whatever you want, effectively outsmarting his food. Also Mello, who gobbles down chocolate bars and stays rakishly thin.
• Big Fancy House: The Wammy's House is large enough for many, many orphans.
• Bishōnen:
  • Light. There's also Mikami (who even has long hair), Mello, Matsuda, Raye Penber, Gevanni, Near, Namikawa, and Midou.
  • L was designed to be the opposite of this, but don't tell that to his fangirls.
• Black-and-White Morality: How Light and his supporters view the world; they are good and criminals (which includes those working against them) are evil.

Well for starters, you could probably cut the examples that are duplicated; character tropes ideally should only be on the character's page.

Doesn't mean there's not still a ton of cleanup needed, though...

Breather Episode should contain two explanations: what was so intense that happened in the previous episode, and the less intense events of the breather episode. Most examples are missing context for either of these.

By the way people, remember that you can add highly problematic / time-consuming pages in need of a ZCE cleanup to the ZCE sandbox in my description. I made it with the intention of it being used as a checklist of pages we need to team up to tackle.

We're ready to clean up, we're ready!

I hope you wrote examples correctly! (I'm scared!)

Okay, that's just priceless.

On a serious note I'll see what I can do with that page. Was a show from my childhood, but memory is rusty.

Update: A few of them have been expanded upon. For Exploding Closet, I checked the video to see how the trope played out and described what I saw. Luckily the weblink still works!

You should check out the Nightmare Fuel thread sometime- we do tons of things like that over there.

Man, I watched hours and hours of that show. Expanded upon a few examples that I remember.

I'll try to help. I still love that show, and I've been meaning to get the mid-2000s volume 2-5 box sets for some time!

I have every episode of the show and am currently rewatching it, so I can help out with the page.

Illogical Safe and "Freaky Friday" Flip both still need more context. Right now, they read like ZCEs. For the latter, at least, how do they swap? How do they unswap? What happens as a result?

Toys.Machine Robo is full of ZC Es and examples that have only enough context for those who have seen the works (I presume, I only stumbled upon it due to the page pic on Something Else Also Rises).

I'd comment them out but the page would become a stub with barely enough examples to avoid deletion (might be an exaggeration on my part, though)

A funny thing happened on Characters.Veronica Mars. Funny ha-ha.

One trope added this:

• Da Chief: Obviously.

I sent the notifier. The troper responded but the only reaction was about the broken links (a known bug). So I replied with the working link and some explanation.

It was changed to this:

• Da Chief: She is the police chief.

I sent the troper another PM and commented it out for now. I find it strangely hilarious. Shaped Like Itself. Joking aside, I hope the troper reads the ZCE page properly and adds some actual context later.

Laughing Mad has a lot of ZCEs.

I wouldn't think it would be that hard to provide context for that trope: Saying who's laughing, why they're laughing, and how the laughter sounds.

The weird thing is that the real life section is better with context. Sometimes, real life sections are the most problematic, hence the existence of a cleanup thread.

What do you do for a page that's entirely ZCEs?

I'd suggest TRS to see if there's a deeper problem and all the ZCEs are just a symptom, but with the backlog, it's probably pointless.

It's been sitting there collecting dust since October 7th. Actually why I brought it here, because I was wondering if something else could be done.

I'd consider commenting-out all the ZC Es in order to bring attention to the problem.

That, or we attempt to find at least three examples we can expand and hide the rest, bringing attention to the issue but not just making it a stub. If it's possible, though.

I do remember looking at that page...it definitely needs help in some way.
