YMMV / SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy

Go To

  • And You Thought It Would Fail: Despite the game's heavily-simplified control scheme, reused characters from The King of Fighters XIV and creepy premise drawing criticism, SNK stated in an investor meeting held in April 2019 in South Korea that the game had sold 300k copies worldwide.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Quite a few of the endings in this game are this due to the Soundtrack Dissonance of the very cheery and light-hearted "Calling Heart" (as performed by Ai Kakuma, Yuri's seiyuu) playing in the background.
    • Terry's, in particular, takes the cake - it's essentially a recreation of the rather tragic ending of Real Bout: Fatal Fury where Terry tries to save Geese from falling to his death, only for the latter to fall to his death anyway. However, in this version, Geese signals to Terry that someone is right behind him - that being Rock, Geese's biological son who would later become Terry's own adoptive son in Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Rock punts Terry off of the very same balcony that his father fell off of, avenging him in the process. Thankfully, all of it is just a dream as Terry wakes up in a cold sweat to Rock having finished making him breakfast.
    • Sylvie. Oooh boy, Sylvie. This would probably be one of the darkest endings in KOF history due to it being a tragic glimpse at Sylvie's Dark and Troubled Past as it's a chibi version of her time as a NESTS experiment. Were it not for the above-mentioned Soundtrack Dissonance and, again, the chibi artstyle, this ending wouldn't be nearly as funny.
    • Mui-Mui's ending is also surprisingly terrifying. It starts out innocently enough where she's eating some dumplings at a gourmet restaurant and ends up being quite famished. Cut to her growing to such a gargantuan size that she starts floating in mid-air like a hot air balloon into the sky and... POP!! The look on her face when she wakes up says it all.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Fem!Terry is by far the most popular character of the game among fans, so much that many have expressed interest in her becoming a proper cast member in the future King of Fighters games.
  • Ho Yay: A given due to the all-female cast with some win quotes being flirty to others. A few of the other women also don't seem to mind making passes at Terry's feminine form.
  • Game-Breaker: Do a basic 3-hit combo with Thief Arthur while holding up and she'll leap into the air after the third hit, allowing for an immediate follow-up with her airborne Dream Finisher. Since the combo doesn't rely on using other Special Moves to lead into the Finisher, she can spam it far more readily than others. Using this tactic makes getting 30-wins in Survival much easier.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Said jokes about Fem-Terry resembling Samus becomes a lot funnier once he was announced as a Guest Fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where he gets to fight against her directly.
    • Likewise, the idea of Fem!Terry becoming so popular is tickling considering the world would be introduced to Bowsette not too long afterward.
  • Memetic Mutation: There have been a couple of jokes on how Terry looks awfully similar to Samus Aran.
  • Older Than They Think: Interesting to note that this is actually just the second time that Skullomania has appeared in a non-Arika made game. The first one he was a Guest Fighter in was Fighter Maker which came out two decades earlier.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: This game has been getting it pretty hard from SNK fans since it was announced, mostly due to the high focus on fanservice and most of the characters being lifted from The King of Fighters XIV. However, It's also been criticized for most of its mechanics and control scheme.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: You can only defeat your opponent by performing a super on them, which takes the gameplay from bareboned to actively unfun.
  • That One Achievement:
    • From a difficulty standpoint: Achieving a 30-win streak in Survival Mode. The DLC character updates make it a bit easier by placing Kukri at rounds 17 and 34 instead of 15 and 30 but, starting at round 26, the AI will begin using endless combos that last for as long as they have stamina, including leading right into their Dream Finishers, so even entering the red zone means instant death if caught in a combo.
    • From a grinding perspective: Earning 500,000 G. Everything in the game can be bought for around 200,000 with the rest simply requiring hundreds of matches in various modes. So far, the most efficient method is grinding in Survival as 30-win streak nets 20,000 per run.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Shermie, who has been long absent in KOF canon since the Orochi Saga and, unlike the other fighters on the roster, is not playable in KOF XIV.
    • The final silhouetted character on the roster render gave the impression that it could have been Fio due to the cap and ponytail being similar. As such, nobody could have expected the reveal that it was actually a gender-bent Terry, even more so when his character archetype could have been easily filled by someone like Alice Nakata or Blue Mary.
    • Thief Arthur in general due to her coming from a series, Million Arthur, that's mostly stayed in Japan.
    • The 2nd DLC character is a downplayed version. Skullomania would've been totally unexpected... had it not been Terry (non-gender-flipped) announced to be appearing in his game earlier.
