Go-Go Gadget Game!

A 1993 Platform Game by Hudson Soft for the Super Nintendo, based on the animated TV show of the same name.

The basic plot is that Penny has been kidnapped by the evil Dr. Claw, and Gadget embarks on a worldwide search to find and rescue her. The player controls Gadget through numerous stages as he utilizes his numerous quirky gadgets to thwart the devious M.A.D agents and bosses who stand in his way.

Gadget has access to Power-up gadgets that let him launch self-guided propellers, punch enemies with the super stretch arm, and glide with a custom helicopter. Brain will lend his trusty help along the way, who will provide the player with valuable items and other clues. The game has a catchy soundtrack and has graphics that are highly recognizable and reminiscent of the cartoon.

Wowsers! This game contains examples of:

  • Actually a Doombot: The Dr. Claw you spent every level but the last chasing is just a remote-controlled chair attaching to various mechs.
  • Adaptational Badass: Being allowed to actually attack his enemies turns Gadget into a One-Man Army who ends the game raiding M.A.D HQ by himself.
  • Big Boo's Haunt: The first spot on Gadget's search for Penny takes him to a creepy forest outside of a spooky castle in England.
  • Bound and Gagged: Penny. When you finally catch up to her in the final level, she's actively struggling against her bindings.
  • Damsel in Distress: Penny has been captured by Dr. Claw and his M.A.D agents and it's up to you to rescue her.
  • Death Throws: Losing a life has Gadget fall off-screen like a leaf floating down.
  • Dumbass No More: Gadget isn't as much of a bumbling goofball here as in the cartoon. Considering he is under the player's control, it doesn't allow many opportunities for him to goof things up.
  • Equipment Upgrade: Picking up copies of a Power-Up Gadget allows you to increase its damage and effectiveness.
  • Haunted Castle: The second half of the first stage takes Gadget inside of a creepy castle.
  • Here We Go Again!: Just after returning home from saving Penny, Gadget gets a note from Chief Quimby informing him that Dr. Claw has performed another kidnapping...Chief Quimby himself.
  • Mana Drain: Dr. Claw drains Gadget's ammo supply just before the final fight, forcing you to rely on your basic attack.
  • The Reveal: After spending most of the cartoon series unseen, you finally get to see Dr. Claw's real face in the final battle.
  • Running Gag: The show's memorable gag of Chief Quimby getting blown up by the Self-Destruct messages shows up here, and happens before the beginning of every level.
  • Single-Use Shield: Gadget's Jacket protects him from one enemy attack, where he loses it and another one hit takes him out.
  • This Is the Final Battle: Quimby's message to Gadget announcing they're found M.A.D HQ informs Gadget this will be the final mission.
  • Timed Mission: You are given a total of 300 seconds to complete stages.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: Gadget gets tips on Penny's whereabouts but just misses her at the last moment as Dr. Claw takes her to a new location.
