Blanche being a rabbit would explain a few things.

Fan Works

  • The Turning Red fanfic Fragile; Handle with Care shows the 4*Town boys (specifically Tae-young and the Aarons) to be fans of the show. The series was referenced as a favourite again in The Panda Chronicles, a fic by the same author.
  • Home Sick (NoonboryKedabory) features a parody of the show titled The Sassy Sisters of Shady Shores, which concerns quadruplet sisters, Stella, Barbara, Rosemary, and Eleanor, living in a nursing home together. The show is said to be much dirtier than it looks.

Films: Live Action

  • Stay Tuned: The closing credits that displayed various television shows that were shown in Hell included a show called The Golden Ghouls.

Literature

  • I Wish You All the Best: The night Ben moves in with the Wallers, they watch a rerun of Golden Girls in their new room. They think, "Thanks for being a friend, Betty White."

Live-Action TV

  • Dinosaurs: In "Driving Miss Ethyl", Ethyl mentions having three friends named Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche.
  • In Living Color!: A Men On Television skit had Blaine and Antoine blasting the show with the latter saying, "Who cares about three old White heifers in a house?"note
  • The Kids in the Hall: The first "Pit of Ultimate Darkness" sketch ended with Satan (played by Mark McKinney) applauding the title show starring Simon and Hecubus, saying at last, he believes he's finally found a show to suit him and his dark tastes. He changes the channel, exclaims "Ooh, Golden Girls!", and proceeds to excitedly watch.
  • Married... with Children: "If Al Had a Hammer" has Al admitting that he would prefer to "sleep in a bunk bed underneath Oprah, have a threesome with Roseanne and her really cool husband and play naked Twister with every one of the Golden Girls" than to share a bedroom with the new baby that Peg was expecting at the time.
  • Saved by the Bell: The College Years: Once while complaining about Slater being a cheap date, Alex told the gang that they had to dress up like the Golden Girls in order to qualify for the senior discount at a restaurant. He counters that it still didn't stop her from generously partaking in the cocktail shrimp that was offered.

Music

  • One line from "The Truth About Toad" by brentalfloss mentions Toad owning a DVD of The Golden Girls.

Tabletop Games

  • While it may sound like an urban legend, it has been confirmed by multiple staff involved in Dungeons & Dragons that the Golden Girls have long been used in official development documents as one of the prime examples of an ideal adventuring party, both in the sense of their personalities and their approach to problem solving. (Sophia, for instance, evokes a well-played caster or rogue making up for physical ability though guile and snark.)

Western Animation

  • The Amazing World of Gumball pays homage to The Golden Girls in Season 6 Episode 2 “The Lady.”
  • Animaniacs (2020) referenced the show during their song about reboots, and they even sing about resurrecting Bea Arthur.
  • In the Season 15 Episode 10 “Passenger Fatty-Seven” of Family Guy As Lois and friends all watch a live news broadcast of terrorists hijacking a plane that Peter, Quagmire, Joe and Cleveland are on, Lois worriedly asks, “What will our lives be like if our husbands don’t make it?” Cue a Cutaway Gag of the series with Lois as Dorothy, Donna as Blanche, Bonnie as Rose and Ida as Sophia re-enacting the Title Sequence with Lois singing “Thank You For Being A Friend.”
  • Robot Chicken:
    • One memorable episode had a Golden Girls crossover with Sex and the City where Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia were carrying on in their sex lives and mannerisms more like the women of the latter show. Although the skit also exaggerates the "older woman" aspect by having the girls discuss sleeping with elderly men who have Alzheimer's and Parkinson's despite that only Sophia was explicitly elderly.
    • They would do another skit several seasons later where Rose reveals St. Olaf is actually Star Olaf, leading into a crossover with Alien.
Blanche (after a facehugger attaches itself to her head): Well I can't say this is a first.
  • Space Ghost Coast to Coast had an episode Zorak offhandedly mentioning a fictional episode where the women all took nitroglycerin and died.
  • Wander over Yonder: Sylvia's species is called "Zbornak", which is Dorothy's surname. Her mother is named Dorothy, taking this reference to its logical conclusion. Bonus points: Sylvia calls her mother "Ma"; the same thing Dorothy calls her mother Sophia.
