Recap / Total Drama: "Finders Creepers"

Go To

The campers must recover buried treasure from a dark forest, with a giant spider on the loose. Thanks to Sam's determination, the Toxic Rats win their first challenge, and Brick is moved to the other team. Mike's alternate personality Vito forms a relationship with Anne Maria, leaving Zoey dismayed.

Tropes:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Chris summarizes the events of the previous episode with an emphasis on the letter B on account of the camper B's elimination: "Eleven bumbling buffoons battled it out in a brutal buffet of bombastica. Why all the B words? Because B proved he was a brave and brilliant improviser who scored big time for his team. Until his bitter teammate Scott fudged it on purpose and B got the boot."
  • All Webbed Up: A giant mutant spiders picks off the contestants one by one. Captured contestants are webbed up and left hanging in a giant web. Though the contestants initially appear to be in danger, the spider is actually Izzy and their captures are part of the challenge.
  • Bear Trap: The Toxic Rats reach the Haunted Forest first and Lightning follows Chris's instruction, as relayed by loudspeaker, to get a written clue from a hole. It's only after he's put his arm in that Chris adds that there's a bear trap in there too. It clamps down on his forearm and Lightning leaves it like that for a bit as the team concerns itself with the clue and tells the other team to buzz off.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Brick has weak bladder control and easily lets it flow when startled. He has a fear of the dark, so the night time challenge tests him. He pees once while in the confessional when the light goes out and another time when he falls into a grave at the pet cemetery.
  • The Cameo: Izzy, who is also Big Bad of the challenge given she is playing the giant spider.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Zoey quickly turns into this when she sees Anna Maria kissing Mike in his Vito persona.
  • Creepy Cemetery: The contestants have to go into a pet cemetery in order to find a clue that will help them get to the next part of the challenge.
  • The Darkness Gazes Back: As the Mutant Maggots try to break free from the branches of a bush, Brick has a good look at the dark forest surrounding them. His eyes land on a tree hollow from which ten pairs of eyes gaze back at him. He screams, picks up the bush with his entire team, and runs away.
  • Determinator: Despite Scott's attempts at sabotage, Sam manages to get the Toxic Rats their first win.
  • Dwindling Party: One by one, the campers are captured by the giant spider (really Izzy in a costume).
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite not being the most selfless person on the Mutant Maggots, Anne Maria is disgusted by how Jo refers to Brick as "dead weight".
  • Eye Poke: The Toxic Rats encounter a tentacle tree in the forest. It grabs Lightning, slaps him a few times and then pokes him in the left eye before throwing him down to the ground. Angry, Lightning gets back up and punches the mutant in its one eye in retaliation.
  • Forceful Kiss: Because Vito is being uncooperative during the challenge in "Finder Creepers", Anne Maria promises him he'll "get more of this" if he gets moving. Having uttered that line, she quickly turns him towards her and gives him an intense kiss.
  • For the Lulz: Implied to be the reason for Izzy running around capturing people while dressed as a spider.
  • Funny Background Event: Zoey is the first of the Mutant Maggots to get abducted while no one is looking. Mike frantically searches for her, running around in the background while Jo tells the rest of the team to forget about her and keep moving.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man:
    • Brick, who is afraid of the dark, falls into an empty grave at the pet cemetery in the middle of the night. Jo helps him out of the grave and when Brick still displays signs of a panic attack, she slaps him repeatedly until he returns to normal.
    • Sam spies on the Mutant Maggots and discovers the next clue that way. He makes animal noises to covertly signal his findings to Scott, who has no clue what Sam is doing. He walks up to him and when Sam shows no signs of stopping with the animal noises, Scott slaps him into stopping.
  • Giant Spider: Chris says that there is an enormous purple mutant spider on the island, though it later turns out to be Izzy in a spider costume.
  • Hollywood Restraining Order: Dakota mentions that Chris put a restraining order on the paparazzi. Not specific individuals, just the paparazzi. So now she's angry that she has no cameras on her.
  • Jump Scare: Scott gets one from Fang after attempting to open a casket.
  • Love Triangle: The episode starts one between Zoey, Anne Maria and Mike (though Anne Maria's more interested in Vito).
  • Make-Out Kids: Anne Maria and Vito.
  • Motivational Kiss: Because Vito is being uncooperative during the challenge, Anne Maria promises him he'll "get more of this" if he gets moving. Having uttered that line, she delivers an intense kiss on his lips. With that prospect in mind, Vito throws himself into the game enthusiastically.
  • Nice Day, Deadly Night: The campers are sent out on a riddle hunt at night with the warning that dangerous creatures are lurking about. Genuine ones are encountered, but the one that causes most trouble is Izzy in a spider disguise.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: Throughout the nocturnal challenge, Brick tries to live up to the moral code of never leaving a soldier behind. He is one of the few that escape the giant spider hunting the campers and at first he refuses to continue the challenge without first saving his team. Team captain Jo, however, orders him to move on. This costs the Mutant Maggots the challenge, because one requirement nobody paid attention to was that it didn't matter who solved the treasure hunt first, but which team had the most campers left upon solving it. By coincidence, rather than be voluntarily eliminated, Brick is moved to the Toxic Rats. Grateful for the second chance, he vows never to leave anyone behind again, which fails to impress Chris and comes back to bite him three episodes later.
  • Self-Deprecation: Mike makes a joke about not always being in control of his body. He laughs, which turns into a sigh as he gains a mournful expression.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The infrared vision that is seen whenever the camera assumes the spider's point of view is based on Predator.
    • The contestants have to search a pet cemetery during the challenge.
    • Jo calls Brick "G.I. Joke".
    • Jo mentions William Shakespeare.
    • When Cameron discovers Izzy lying amongst the damaged costume, there are two tanks with web symbols on them.
  • Stealth Pun: Anne Maria asks Vito if he sees any clues, to which he asks what that is. He's clueless.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: Anne Maria keeps the key the Mutant Maggots find with her in her cleavage. She gets it out when they find the lock it goes into in a tombstone.
  • Wham Shot: After Cameron knocks down the spider and walks over to check on it, it's revealed that it wasn't a real spider-it was actually Izzy wearing a spider costume.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Cameron and Brick are terrified of spiders and the dark respectively. By the end of the episode, Cameron has gotten over his fear of spiders and is now terrified of Izzy.
