Where's the Jaws theme song when you need it?

Chief Andrea Marquez sends you to the beach with your new partner Amy Young, where reality TV show star Jimmy "Ice P" Lewis has been found half-eaten by a shark with his fingers cut off.

Tropes:

  • Agonizing Stomach Wound: Christie Becker, the victim of tutorial case "Welcome to Pacific Bay", is killed by being stabbed in the abdomen.
  • Awful Wedded Life: Ice P and his wife Carly had many marital problems (probably due to the fact that he was a Closet Gay), but they remained together so their TV show didn't lose ratings.
  • Beach Episode: All of the crime scenes in this case are set on or near a beach.
  • Cannot Tell Fiction from Reality: Augusta, the little girl you meet, believed Ice P's TV show was a real fairy tale, hence why she got heartbroken when she saw him having an argument with his wife.
  • Closet Gay: Zack and Ice P were in love, but Zack had to hide his sexuality or else he would lose his job since it required him to make girls "dream."
  • Clueless Mystery: Like in the first case of Grimsborough and all the mobile exclusive tutorial cases, while the player is given the physical evidence to solve the murder in "Welcome to Pacific Bay", it's never explained why Tyler Griffin killed Christie Becker.
  • Continuity Cameo: In one of the crime scenes, a star with the name "Jones" can be seen.
  • Debut Queue: In the mobile-exclusive "Welcome to Pacific Bay" tutorial, only Chief Marquez, Amy, and Roxie are introduced, with the rest of the team properly appearing in the case itself. On the other hand, Frank and Russell won't appear until subsequent cases.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Trevor killed Ice P for the sole reason that his TV show had scared all of the sharks away from the coastline, so he decided to feed him to one as a comeback.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Amy does this upon meeting Zack, the local lifeguard.
Amy: That lifeguard's so... ahem, impressive, isn't he, <Player's Name>?
Oops, sorry... You're right, I need to stay focused.
  • Ensign Newbie: It's clear that Amy is a newbie in this whole "being a police officer" thing, showing herself to be far more inexperienced than Jones.
Amy: And what about this cooler you found? I would have never noticed it, but I clearly still have a lot to learn! Shall we look inside?
  • Fangirl: Augusta, a little kid fan of Ice P who firmly believes his TV show is the real deal.
  • Fingore: The victim first had his fingers cut off then thrown in the ocean so his blood would attract a shark.
  • Gold Digger: Carly Lewis, Ice P's wife, is a pretty blatant one. When she's informed of her husband's death, the only thing she cares about is how he would no longer be able to buy her expensive new things. And when Amy tries to console her by saying she shouldn't be taking the loss too badly, she immediately tries to capitalize on his death by hosting a grand season finale of their reality show.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Maggie, the abrasive and ill-tempered surfer you meet, saw the victim being attacked by the shark while surfing but didn't do anything about it. When Amy berates her for this, she says she couldn't do anything since it would be she versus a shark.
  • Punny Name: The shark expert's last name is "Finn".
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Trevor Finn, the shark-loving scientist who reported the body (and is also the murderer too).
Trevor: This shark attack is ever so exciting! No, thrilling! No, amazing! No, wonderf-
Amy: Dr. Finn! A man has been killed! I'm not sure it's something you should be rejoicing over!
  • Shout-Out:
    • The victim resembles Ice-T and even has the rapper name of "Ice P".
    • Carly Lewis resembles Kim Kardashian.
    • Paranoid is a parody of Polaroid.
    • The killer, Trevor Finn, is based on PitchingAce88 (according to Ace anyway), who is most well known for his Let's Play videos on Criminal Case.
    • One of the suspects is named Zack Taylor.
  • The Show Must Go On: During the Additional Investigation, Carly tries to replace Ice P with a lookalike of him to at least film the final episode of their TV show, though she scrapes the idea by the end.
  • Skewed Priorities: Carly, the victim's wife, is more sad by the fact that now no one will buy nice things for her.
Carly: But now... Oh, oh... He'll never be able to buy me things again! I can't believe this is happening to me!
  • Teacher's Pet: Roxie calls Amy this.
Amy: Uh, Roxie... The Chief sent out a memo about avoiding Happy Hour on weekdays, remember?
Roxie: Ah, Amy, teacher's pet as always!
  • Threatening Shark: The victim was killed with a shark attack instigated by his killer.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: Zack Taylor, the lifeguard you meet in this case, is only seen with a pair of beach shorts.
  • Welcome Episode: The mobile-exclusive brief tutorial you have to play before this case, aptly titled "Welcome to Pacific Bay."
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: Roxie got so hammered in the Tiki Shack bar last night that isn't until much later that she remembers she was the last person to see the victim alive.
