Recap / All For Luz - Chapter 1

Go To

S1 - Ep 1: Luz Noceda - Origin

In one world, a villain is put down by a hero. On another, when she was supposed to go to Reality Check Summer Camp, Luz finds little holes in the palms of her hands While Luz is fascinated by it, when she shows them to her mother, Camila is alarmed and immediately takes her to a hospital. There, Luz witnesses people around her age beginning to develop superpowers like herself. Luz Noceda's is seemingly useless, giving her holes in her hands and the ability to see black strings above other superhumans that are invisible to others.

This chapter contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: Unlike his canon counterpart, this version of All Might was able to put down All For One in their fight where he was severely injured.
  • Adaptation Deviation: Because she gained holes in her palms from the Mass Super-Empowering Event on the day she was supposed to go to Reality Check Camp, Luz's mother takes her to the hospital to get looked at. Meaning Owlbert doesn't steal her Azura book and she ends up in the Demon Realm as in canon.
  • Aura Vision: Luz's power includes the ability to see black strings above the heads of other superhumans that are invisible to others. Touching them causes small sparks.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Luz and Camila often speak Spanish. Translations below.
    • Ahora tienes catorce años, Luz. Empieza a actuar según tu edad! (You are fourteen years old now, Luz. Start acting your age!)
    • Mamá! Por favor! (Mother! Please!)
    • ¡Oh Dios mío! (Oh my God!)
    • ¡Espera, mamá! (Wait Mom!)
    • ¿De donde viene esto? (Where does this come from?)
    • Te quiero, Luz. (I love you, Luz.)
  • Blood from the Mouth: All For One coughs blood before he dies to All Might.
  • Breath Weapon: Camila's friend, Racheal, tells her that her son can breathe fire.
  • Cassandra Truth: When Luz tries to tell her mother she's got holes in her hands, Camila initially believes she just drew them on and tells her to clean them off. Its only after being clean with a cloth and could feel the holes does realise her daughter is telling the truth.
  • Defiant to the End: All For One laughs at All Might telling him he'll be back to destroy everything he loves, before the Symbol of Peace kills him.
Rikitasu: Did... I... really? Ehehe... no... I did not lose... I will live on... In a different place... In a different time... I have supporters in places you could never reach... You... have not won this day... You will never win...
  • Die Laughing: All For One does this before being killed by All Might.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: All For One's voice is described by All Might as deep and baritone like a true demon.
  • Fish People: Downplayed. Some of the kids at the hospital have gills on their necks.
  • Good Is Not Soft: All Might proved this when he killed All For One.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Luz and Camila often slip into this from time-to-time.
  • An Ice Person: A few kids at the hospital could form ice on their hands.
  • Immigrant Parents: Camila is mentioned to be an immigrant from The Dominican Republic of Spain.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: All Might's injury was caused by All For One's Spearlike Bone in their Final Battle.
  • Irony: The day that Luz was supposed to go to Reality Check Summer Camp is the day of a Mass Super-Empowering Event. After being told all her life separate fantasy from reality, the two have now blended together She feels more than a bit smug about the situation.
Luz: Suck it, crappy teachers! 1 point for Luz, 0 points for restrictive school!
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: This happens to him before All Might puts him down.
Rikitasu: Oh... you'll see soon enough.... I will return. And when I do... it will not be in a form you recognize. And when I find you.... I will kill everyone you ever loved. I will paint this world red with your blood! I will make sure that everything you ever cared about will be destroyed. I. WILL. COME. BAC-
  • Mass Super-Empowering Event: The story starts with Luz's world going through a "Quirk Awakening", with thousands of children, mostly aged 12-15, across the globe developing powers, including Luz herself.
  • Mind over Matter: There are a few children at the hospital that can make things float with their minds. This makes them excited and and their parents worried.
  • Mythology Gag: The Quirk that Camila's friend's son has been described as Fire Breath, the same power as Izuku's father.
  • Not Hyperbole: When Camila's friend, Racheal, tells her that her son is breathing fire over the phone she thinks she’s just being hysterical. Turns out a Mass Super-Empowering Event just happened.
  • Parents as People: Luz's mother is trying to keep her daughter from being expelled. She thinks the best solution is to dissuade Luz from burying herself in fantasy and sending her to Reality Check Summer Camp to mellow her and make some friends there.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: All Might's fight with All For One destroyed an entire city with many casualties caught in the crossfire.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: While All Might managed to kill All For One, not only does he receive is canon Career-Ending Injury but a whole city was destroyed in the process with numerous deaths caused in the process.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: All Might's response to All For One's We Will Meet Again speech and Evil Laugh is to completely crush his skull completely, killing him.
  • Take That!: Tucker Carlson on Fox News was freaking out, saying the Mass Super-Empowering Event is some sort of secret conspiracy.
  • Talk to the Fist: All For One is Killed Mid-Sentence by All Might's punch while monologing.
  • Vengeance Feels Empty: While All Might knows he had to kill All For One, he couldn't help but feel had been played, like villain planned for his demise.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Because of the strange anomalies caused by the Mass Super-Empowering Event, Luz entertains the idea that the summer camp going from being delayed to being cancelled, due to what was going on. Camila tells her its just being delayed until tomorrow and she already paid the $250 for her admission.
Luz: 1 point for dull and crappy camp. 0 points to Luz Noceda…. Crap.
  • Your Head Asplode: How All For One dies courtesy of All Might.
