Basic Trope: A character who hates teenagers.
- Straight: Bob is The Antagonist who hates teenagers.
- Exaggerated:
- Bob hates teenagers so much that he would harm or even kill them.
- Bob has hated teenagers since the day he was born; even when he was one himself, his hatred continued.
- Bob commits suicide once midnight strikes on his 13th birthday (he had been staying up past his bedtime to prepare for this moment).
- Every character aged 0-12 and 20+ is plotting a genocide against everyone between 13 and 19 years of age.
- Bob takes his hatred of teenagers out by abusing his teenage children.
- Downplayed:
- Bob finds teenagers annoying, but he doesn't despise them.
- Bob despises middle school teens, but doesn't mind high schoolers since he finds them more mature and down-to-earth.
- Bob finds older teenagers much more insufferable due to their recklessness and obnoxious behavior, but he's able to tolerate younger teens who keep their childlike charm.
- Bob is a Sadist Teacher in high/middle school, but doesn't treat his adult co-workers much better. Ditto for his younger child and adult students on his days as an elementary teacher and college professor respectively.
- Bob loathes teenagers, but keeps his hatred to himself and doesn't act on it.
- Bob hates only teen girls or teen boys but tolerates the other gender.
- Bob dislikes rebellious and/or annoying teens, but is fine with nice and/or well-behaved ones.
- Bob doesn't necessarily like teenagers at all, but he still hates those who'd harm teens.
- Bob understandably doesn't like teenagers that are cruel and mean to not only adults, but to each other.
- Bob doesn't mind the teenagers that seem nice.
- Justified:
- Bob finds teenagers to be rebellious, evil, sex-driven, bratty, stupid, and loathes the obsession they over their phones.
- Bob had a traumatic experience being severely bullied by the Jerk Jock in high school which changed his attitude towards teenagers in general.
- Bob's parents had a disdain for teenagers themselves and abused Bob throughout his teen years, making him inherit this trait to cope with his post-adolescence trauma.
- Bob never got to experience adolescence himself when he was young, so he takes out his anger and jealousy on them.
- Bob has powers that don't work on teenagers.
- Bob belongs to a race that has no concept of "adolescence", so seeing teenagers offends his worldview.
- Inverted:
- Friend to All Children - Well, Friend to All Teenagers at that.
- Teenage characters hate adults.
- Subverted:
- Bob only seemed to hate teenagers because he had a bad day and was taking his anger out on younger generations who have it easier than him.
- Bob doesn't hate teenagers; he just avoids them because he doesn't know how to interact with them due to different levels of life experience.
- It turns out that Bob Hates Everyone Equally.
- Double Subverted:
- Even when he's in a good mood, Bob despises all teenagers.
- Turns out he only hates the teenage protagonist for some reason.
- He hates teenagers slightly more than the others.
- Parodied:
- In a form of Hypocritical Humor, Bob is a Manchild who loathes teenagers for their immaturity.
- The moment Bob finds teenagers loathsome is when they ask him how different growing up was in his generation.
- The belief in Santa Claus loses its magical power once a child reaches the age of 13: Every December 25th, Santa gives them nothing but coal for Christmas, much to the teens' frustrations.
- Teenagers who go trick-or-treating on Halloween get a trick (usually a bucket of water dumped on them from the second-floor window) instead of any treats.
- Parents give their kids up for adoption once they turn 13. Nobody wants to adopt them.
- Zig-Zagged:
- Bob's attitude towards teenagers varies depending on what mood he is in.
- Bob only hates some teenagers, while he tolerates some and likes some others.
- Averted: Characters in the setting either like teenagers or at least tolerate them. None of them express any hostility towards teens even when they are annoyed by them.
- Enforced:
- The author wants to have an antagonist for the Teen Hero, so they come up with this plan...
- The villain is made to hate teenagers so that neither the characters/people who know this nor the audience will empathize with him.
- Lampshaded:
- "No person between 13-19 years of age may enter this facility. Every other age group admitted."
- "How could you hate teenagers, Bob? You were a teen yourself once!" "Don't remind me."
- Invoked: Children Are a Waste, especially those of the teenaged variety.
- Exploited:
- Bob runs for a political position, but the heroes keep him from winning the election by exposing his hatred of teenagers to the public.
- Bob is not allowed within 30 ft. of a secondary school.
- Defied: Bob refuses to show hostility towards teenagers, knowing that doing so will make him seen as a horrible person.
- Discussed: "It seems a lot of people think all teens are sassy rebels. Honestly, they've never met my well-behaved [son/daughter]!"
- Conversed: "Why would a teenager watch shows where a villain hates teenagers?"
- Implied:
- When Bob sees his friends share photos of their teenage children on his social media timeline, he looks at them with disdain.
- Bob is poor and unemployed, but still refuses to apply for a career in secondary education even though he's qualified.
- Deconstructed:
- Bob becomes a recluse because he won't go out in society with teenagers at large, and nobody will do anything for him nor vice versa, causing him to starve.
- Worse yet...Bob had really, really abusive parents, or had a bad experience with deranged teens, thus Harold dives into a "beautiful" plan by shooting their parents in front of them...not only scarring them for life, but he puts them through a "heroic" training session to be perfect boys and girls.
- Reconstructed: He had prepared for such an eventuality by stockpiling food and other supplies in his house.
- Played for Laughs:
- Bob is used as a Butt-Monkey for the pranks of the teen characters.
- A parent gives their kid an Idiot Ball after they hit puberty to show how they stereotype teenagers and expect their kid's behavior to change following this milestone.
- Played for Drama: Even though Bob would never hurt a teen and isn't a bad person, other people accuse him of being "heartless" because he can't stand teenagers.
