Rejection is when we rebuff, refuse, or even just say a plain "no" to something being given or offered to us. Here are tropes which involve a character rejecting something (or someone).

- Cavalry Refusal: Supposed rescuers aren't interested in rescuing.
- Declining Promotion
- Defiant Captive: Just because I'm your prisoner doesn't mean I'll submit to you.
- Don't You Dare Pity Me!: I don't want your sympathy! So beat it!
- Elective Broken Language: Me can language normal speak. Not want to but.
- Elective Mute: I can speak. I just choose to stay mute because I never have anything to tell anyone.
- Elective Unintelligible: I can speak clearly, but muhwuhbluh.
- Emancipated Child: When a child divorces their parents.
- Handshake Refusal: Get that hand out of my face! I ain't shaking nothing with you!
- High-Five Left Hanging: Yeah, keep that hand hanging as long as you want! Because I sure as hell won't be returning that gesture!
- Ignored Epiphany: I'm beginning to wonder if I should redeem myself... Yeah, right! I'm totally going to continue being the bad guy!
- I Have No Son!: Son?! WHAT SON?! That guy ain't related to me!
- I'm Not Hungry: I don't want anything to eat!
- Incompatible Orientation: I'm sorry, but we can't be a couple because I don't swing that way.
- I Reject Your Reality: I refuse to accept the facts! The truth is whatever it is in my little fantasy world, no matter how often I'm told otherwise or shown objective proof my beliefs are wrong!
- I Work Alone: So I don't need your help! Let me take care of this myself!
- Keeping the Handicap: I don't care if it's feasible to remove my disability. I choose to live the rest of my life with it. It's part of who I am.
- Keep the Reward: A true hero is blasé about collecting a fee.
- Kids Play Match Breaker: Who is this person dating my mom/dad?! He/she is NOT stepmother/father worthy to me!
- Leave Me Alone!: I want to be alone! So get away from me!
- Loves Secrecy: Why should I tell others anything I do? It's best to keep them in the dark!
- Murder by Inaction: I could save you, but I'd much rather just let you die.
- No Fame, No Wealth, No Service: No money or social clout? Can't come into this establishment!
- Not Good with Rejection: How dare you turn me down! Refusing my affections is a serious affront! (Not taking it well when someone rejects you.)
- If I Can't Have You…: ...no one can! Nobody gets away with rejecting me! (A character with unreciprocated love kills said person to prevent someone else from having them.)
- The Irredeemable Exception: It doesn't matter if all of the other villains in the world all turn to good, I won't!
- Not on the List: Sorry! You can't come in to this club because you're not on the guest list!
- Off the Table: A character rejects another character's offer, but as he changes his mind, the other character won't extend the offer.
- Prefers Going Barefoot: Shoes were invented by the Sith to keep our delicate toes in anguish and misery, I prefer to go barefoot. (A character with an expressed dislike of footwear, and who because of it often goes barefoot.)
- Pulling Your Child Away: Stay away from that person, Little Billy! He's dangerous! (Someone is marked as an outcast when a parent pulls their child away from them.)
- Reasonable Request Rejected: A request is acknowledged as valid and reasonable, right before it's rejected.
- Rebuff the Amateur: Professionals or authority figures refuse help in their area of expertise from the amateur protagonists.

- Rejected Apology: It's too late for apologies! The damage you've done is far too much for me to ever forgive you!
- Rejected Marriage Proposal: Sorry. But I can't accept your proposal. I just don't feel comfortable with marriage.
- Rejection Affection: Sorry. You're a nice guy/girl, but I just can't reciprocate my feeling to you.
- Rejection Projection: I don't need your protection! I'm capable of taking care of myself!
- Rejecting the Consolation Prize: If I'm not the winner, I don't want the stupid runner-up prize!
- Rejecting the Inheritance
- Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: I don't care about the money! If it means breaking the rules, I'd rather stay broke!

- Shut Up, Hannibal!: I don't care what excuse you've pulled from your ass to justify why you're not in the wrong or why I shouldn't bother holding you accountable for your crimes. You're still evil and it's still my obligation to kick your ass!

- Slow Life Fantasy: Who cares about these greater conflicts?! I'm more concern for something else regardless how unremarkale they seem!
- Stamp of Rejection
- Stood Up: Someone agrees to go on a date, only to learn too late that the other person decided to ditch them by not bothering to show up where they agreed to meet.
- Take a Third Option: Forget the two choices I'm offered to! I'd rather come up with my own choice!
- Tastes Like Disdain: Bleh, this food you gave me is disgusting!
- Uninvited to the Party
- Unwanted Assistance: I don't need your help, especially since your efforts in assisting me are only making things worse!
- You're Not My Father: Whether you're the one who conceived me or the one who raised me, I refuse to accept that you're my dad.
