Fate Graphite lives in a world where unique abilities known as "skills" exists, granting those who possess them power beyond their wildest dreams, but alas he was born with the seemingly useless skill known as "Gluttony" which curses him with an insatiable hunger that can never go away. As such, he was considered a pathetic weakling by everyone his entire life until one day while working as a gatekeeper, he had his very first kill on a trespassing thief and discovers the grisly truth about his skill.
It turns out Gluttony can devours not only food but everything including skills themselves which in turn lets Fate gain immense power and levels. With Fate awakening to his true potential, how many lives will he feed on to satisfy this hunger and is the world ready for the frightening warrior he will become?
Not to be confused with that other Berserk series.
Contains the following tropes:
- Back for the Dead: Holy Knight Rudolph Lanchester was sent flying by Myne seconds after debuting in chapter 15. He then returns 17 chapters later for his second and final appearance before getting blinded and impaled from Mukuro and the King's elite guards respectively with his position being given to Fate.
- Cannibalism Superpower: Downplayed as Fate doesn't need to consume others for his skill to work but merely taking their lives is enough to activate it, allowing him to absorb the stats and skills of those he slays. In fact, the first time his skill activates is when kills a bandit, a fellow human, who was trying to kill him.
- Dark Is Not Evil: Fate possesses the skill Gluttony which allows him to gain the stats and skills of those he kills at the cost of remaining at LV. 1 in experience and constantly hungry if he goes too long between kills. He wields the jet black sword Greed (which is intelligent) and his ensemble is always black with a mask designed like a skull that helps accent his red eyes when he's in the midst of a fight. And yet he is one of the most genuinely Nice Guys you could ever meet, gets easily flustered around the girl he likes, and one of the most surefire ways to end up as his next "meal" is to hurt an innocent person regardless if he knows them personally or not.
- Evil Weapon: Envy the dagger and Pride the spear are the Token Evil Teammates of the sins that like to irreversibly possess the user who isn't its official owner to spread destruction, havoc and even death across humanity.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Roxy Hart, a noble and Holy Knight, has beautiful long blonde hair and a total sweetheart on and off duty who doesn't see her rank, status, and considerable physical power as an excuse to bully others. Her first on-screen appearance is to call out the Verrick siblings for beating up Fate and being a disgrace as Holy Knights.
- Klingon Promotion: Rudolph haughtily claims Mukuro can never obtain a seat of the Holy Knights in his wildest dreams with his lowly commoner status so the king's elite guards solve this by stabbing him through the chest and giving Mukuro his seat.
- Meaningful Name: "Fate Graphite"'s name is this twice; Fate seems to be continually drawn into conflicts and conspiracies involving the Holy Knights and the other Mortal Sins. Graphite is a type of carbon that is found, among other things, in pencil lead (thus common and useless) but under the right conditions can be converted into diamonds (valuable and convened).
- The Hart family seem to be the White Sheep of the nobility and the Holy Knights, Roxy in particular due to appearance and personality invoke Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold.
- Really 700 Years Old: Eris and Myne are 3000 and 4000 years of age respectively.
- Sleepyhead: Myne tends to nod off during long journeys and is sluggish and spacey at times, probably due to carrying her warhammer which is literally named Sloth.
- What You Are in the Dark: After Fate learns what his skill "Gluttony" can really do and how this could allow him to get stronger; one of his early thoughts is how that new strength could be used to get back at his tormentors. Then he encounters young girl who he realizes has been kidnapped and with no hesitation decides to help her now that he has the power to help others when no one else would for him.
