    Characters

Ordinary humans

  • "Ravioli" for Levi after the early fan translation of his name to "Rivaille".
    • "Manlet" on /a/, in reference to his far below-average height.
    • As of chapter 56, "Ackermanlet" also became popular.
  • "Potato Girl" for Sasha, which doubles as an In-Series Nickname.
  • Some fans jokingly refered to Hanji as "Glasses Sasha" because of the similarity in their character designs.
  • Weilman, the Garrison captain, has garnered "Commander Crack-Head" and "Commander Meth-Eyes" among other drug-related nicknames because of the... distinct shadowed look around his eyes.
  • Adoring fans of Marco refer to him as "Freckled Jesus".
  • Some jokingly call Historia's mother "Rosa" due to physical ressemblance and her wishing her daughter was never born.
  • "Abe Lincoln", "John Marston" and "Clint Eastwood" for Captain Ackerman due to his physical resemblance to them. Also "Kanye", due to early scanlations translating his name as Kaney coupled with his tendency to start lines with "Yo [Insert Name Here]".
  • Following Darius Zackly's confession that his overthrowing of the puppet monarchy was essentially for shits and giggles, fans quickly christened him as "Dickly".
  • Kenny Ackerman's second-in-command, Traute Caven, was called "Not-Annie" due to very similar look and because she hadn't been named yet.
  • The Survey Corps soldier who made it out of the rush on the Beast Titan unscathed and carried a wounded Erwin away was often called "Not-Jean" due to his perceived resemblance. His official name was revealed to be Floch a few chapters later.
  • "Mehmet" or "Fez-kun" for Ramzi, especially before his name was revealed (because of him wearing a fez and a somewhat Turkish-style vest).
  • /r/okbuddyreiner and has taken to calling Connie... Anything but Connie, with tongue-in-cheek reverence: "Conner", "Conrad", "Cornelius", "Cummer" and so on.
    • This has progressed to where every character imaginable has some sort of strange nickname (i.e. Ellen/Alan for Eren, Armong/Armean/Aruming for Armin). Anything goes as long as it's recognizable. Nicknames vary from poster to poster, but there is one nickname that remains mostly consistent. The subreddit namesake, Reiner, or "Lainah".
  • "Milfkasa" to complement Mikasa's really sexy looks after after the time-skips or for a more adult Mikasa in fanart (often a MILF in the more literal sense and together with Jean).
    • There's also "Mankasa", as she's derisively called by those who think that her post-timeskip face looks too manly.
    • Another type of derisive nicknames is "Slavekasa", "Dogkasa" and "Ackerslave", a reference to Eren claiming Mikasa's feelings for him are caused by the Ackermann family's superpowers, which, as (falsely) claimed by Eren, force them to be loyal to a "host" who awakened their powers.
    • Another derisive nickname, "Necrokasa", was provoked by chapter #138 where she is shown to kiss the severed head of Eren (the "necro" being an insinuation of necrophilia).
  • Jean is often called "horse", "stallion" and so on because Eren called him "horseface" a couple of times (Reiner picked up that nickname, too, after the second timeskip).
  • "Hisu" for Historia.
  • Onyankopon is often called "onion coupon" because his name sounds similar.
  • "Farmer" or "Farmer-kun" for Historia's consort, father of her child and eventual husband.
  • "Beren" for the future descendent of Mikasa (a portmanteau between Boruto and Eren) who, in the extra panels of the final chapter, visited Eren's tree which eerily resembles the tree Ymir fell into. Fans not happy with the ending immediately mocked the character as Sequel Baiting, akin to Boruto.

Titan shifters

  • Some fans refer to the Rogue Titan as the "Elf Titan" due to his ears.
  • The Armored Titan is called the "Brock Lesnar Titan" because it looks like Brock Lesnar (this having been an intentional Shout-Out by the artist). By extension, Reiner Braun is sometimes called "Brock Lesnar", though he doesn't actually look like Brock when in human form.
    • He is also referred to as the "Plot Armored Titan" due to him cheating death numerous times.
  • "Monkey Trouble" is /a/'s name for the Beast Titan. Plays on this are also common, e.g "Simian Shenanigans".
  • "Princess Eren" for Eren due to getting kidnapped three times in three different story arcs.
  • The Dancing Titan is simply named after the opening line of the chapter it was introduced in. It wasn't until later that it was revealed that its name was the Jaws Titan.
  • Zeke (more precisely, his Beast Titan form) is often referred to as "Monke", referring to the "Le Monke" meme template, depicting a pouty, obese photoshopped orangutan.
  • Less prominent, but Ymir is consequently referred to as "Freckled Satan". Ironically, there are also people who have referred to her as "Freckled Goddess".
  • "Gesumin" for Armin, when he's being a Manipulative Bastard ("Gesu" is Japanese for "scumbag"). Coined by Isayama himself, when he posted the original version of the scene where he sports a Slasher Smile while lying to Bertolt about Annie being tortured, showing just how disturbing the original expression was. It was captioned, "This Gesumin... What should I do with it?".
  • On that note, Armin's also earned the name "Majestic Fucking Eagle" from Team Four Star's Attack on Titan Abridged. There's also "Shota He-Man", thanks to his blonde bowl cut.
  • "Geographia" for Frieda Reiss, who was shown in Eren's flashback in chapter 53, due to her Uncanny Family Resemblance to her half-sister, Historia Reiss.
  • "Hobo Eren" for Eren's appearance when he infiltrated Marley.
  • "Pii" for Pieck.
  • "Aaron Yogurt" is a disparaging nickname for the Eren from Mikasa's dream (where he deserted the fight to live out his remaining four years (before succumbing to the Curse of Ymir, which kills a titan shifter 13 years after they acquired the power) together with Mikasa) before she chopped his head off in chapter #138.
  • "Walmart Lelouch" is another disparaging nickname for Eren during the final chapter, especially when considering the much hyped 'Code Geass' ending. Given the controversy surrounding the ending, the nickname is used by detractors who find Eren's characterisation to be a cheap knockoff of Lelouch vi Britannia from Code Geass. Hence the nickname of Walmart Lelouch.

Pure Titans

  • One of the Titans has been dubbed as "Kawaii Titan".
  • "Smiling Titan" is the nickname given to the Titan who killed and ate Eren's mother, due to its characteristic grinning smile.
  • Due to how it looks in certain shots, Rod Reiss's Titan form earned the name "Roast Chicken Titan", or "Giant Turkey Titan". Upon its appearance in the anime, it was also named the "Maggot Titan".

Other beings

  • The "source of all living matter", the true source of the power of the titans, is called "Worm", "Worm-kun", "Hallucigenia" or "Hallu-chan" because it looks like the hallucigenia, an ancient seaworm that lived in the Cambrian period (about 541 millions to 485.4 million years ago).

    Character groups

General character groups

  • "Shinganshina Trio" for Eren, Mikasa, and Armin.
    • Alternatively, "EMA", based on their initals. In the same vein, "RBA", for Reiner, Bertolt, and Annie.
  • "Bert and Ernie", for Bertolt and Reiner.
  • "Same Hometown Trio", Titan Trio, Teen Titans or " B.R.A." for Bertolt, Reiner, and Annie.
  • "Pieck's Simps" for the Panzer Squad
  • Fan circles had a field day with the alliance formed in Chapter 126, referring to them as "The Avengers" or more derisively, "the cringevengers." More neutrally, they are called "The Alliance".

Pairings

  • "Horse cart" for the pairing of Jean (horse, see above) and Pieck the Cart Titan
    • The same pairing is also called "Fingerstein" (Pieck Finger and Jean Kirstein).
  • "EreHisu" or "EH" is the name of the Eren x Historia pairing.
  • "Eremika" or "EM" is the name of the Eren x Mikasa pairing.
  • "Yumikuri" is the name of the Ymir x Historia (from the time when she went under the cover name "Krista Lenz") pairing.

    Other nicknames
  • The PS4\PC game only has the Wings of Freedom subtitle in Europe. That said, some non-Europeans refer to it with the subtitle to distance it from the crappy 3DS game.
  • Titans in general have commonly been referred to as "meat Gundams", and the series' genre was said to be "mecha animé/manga" after it turned out that they were really pilotable Instant Armor, creating a significant early Genre Shift for the story.
  • "Yams" for Isayama, the author of the manga.
  • "No pp plan" for Zeke's plan to use the Founding Titan to sterilize all Eldians so that titans would disappear and the Eldians wouldn't have to suffer anymore. It's likely that r/titanfolk came up with this one.
  • "Zero IQ Requiem" a disparaging nickname used to describe Eren Yaeger's plan during the Rumbling by detractors. A pun to the much-hyped 'Code Geass' ending. Those who didn't like the ending accuse it of leaving too many plotholes/narrative contradictions, character assassinations, sequel baiting and having an over-convoluted plan that ends up accomplishing nothing. Ergo, there was no intelligent thought process going in and a complete opposite of the actual Zero Requiem.
