House Telemanus

A client of House Augustus who Virginia was fostered with after the death of her mother. The Telemanuses became a second family to her, and they treat her as one of their own. When Virginia aligned herself with Darrow and the Sons of Ares, the Telemanus clan followed suit out of loyalty to her and Darrow individually more than any personal belief in the rebellion's cause.

Official art of Kavax with Sophocles in Iron Gold
A friend and ally of Nero au Augustus who serves as surrogate father figure to Virginia.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: His kids had to get it from somewhere in the family tree
  • BFS: His sword is as large as Darrow
  • Blood Knight: Loves to fight
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Dotes on his pet fox, and also one of the biggest badasses in the series.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: constantly talks to his pet fox and believes that gnomes steal earwax from his ears while he sleeps, yet still an undeniable badass.
  • Career-Ending Injury: The wounds he suffered during the abduction of Electra and Pax force him to retire from active duty and leave him limping with a cane. Subverted when the events of Dark Age force him to get back in the action.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: His wife believes that his Bunny-Ears Lawyer tendencies are a result of one too many blows to the head. His son just thinks he's this trope.
  • Fantastic Racism: Is extremely distrusting of Obsidians. He gets over it by the end of Morning Star.
  • Large Ham: Pax had to learn it somewhere.
  • Life Debt: Forms one with Lyria after she saves him from drowning in Iron Gold, and agrees to Lyria's request to bring her and her nephew to Luna with him.
  • Nice Guy: Everyone likes Kavax.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Kavax plays up his image as slightly insane but friendly giant to hide his more philosophical, thoughtful side. When he's alone with Mustang inDark Age, he begins talking in more complete and complex sentences and was earlier to revealed to have a knowledge of historical and mythological figures like Jesus Christ and King Arthur.
  • Parental Substitute: while Nero is still acknowledged as Mustang's father, Kavax is the one who practically raised her and served as a parental figure to her. This is made even more explicitly in Dark Age, where he outright calls her his daughter.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Exploits bureaucratic loopholes to help Lyria and her nephew bypass the Republic's strict immigration laws and leave Mars.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Virginia, such that he continues to support her goal of equality for all colors despite his misgivings about the idea.

     Niobe au Telemanus
Kavax's wife.
  • Action Girl: She's retired, but she has her moments when her husband is injured.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Mentioned during the original trilogy, but only appears in person in the Sequel Series.
  • Human Notepad: Has the tribal tatoos of whichever unspecified pacific island cultures are in her genes all over her body.
  • Lethal Chef: According to her daughter.
  • Retired Badass: At the time of Iron Gold, she's not directly involved in the war effort. However, she's willing to come out of retirement and kick some ass when her husband is wounded.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: She's downright murderous when Kavax is injured by Ephraim's team.

     Daxo au Telemanus
Oldest son of Kavax and Niobe and Pax's older brother.
  • Ascended Extra: Plays a prominent role during Virginia's first few chapters in Dark Age.
  • BFS: Like his father, he wields a gigantic blade as big as Darrow.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Dark Age reveals that he was a mentor to Virginia after her older brother Claudius died.
  • Blood Knight: A family trait.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Less so than the rest of his family, but it's still there
  • The Big Guy: Just like the rest of the family.
  • Facial Markings: Has angel tattoos on his head.
  • Large Ham: Less boisterous than his father and brother, but he still has his moments.
  • Genius Bruiser: As a Telemanus, Daxo is gigantic even for a Gold and is a skilled fighter who collects exotic weapons. He also happens to be a shrewd politician who is well read in classical literature including Milton's "Paradise Lost".
  • Guile Hero: He's into political schemes and manipulating people to get his way even though he's allied with the Rising. He's especially good at this when paired with Mustang as they both excel in power plays.
  • Mauve Shirt: Never gets to be part of the main cast, but he's the most memorable of his siblings aside from Pax.
  • Off with His Head!: Lilath decapitates him during Caraval's coup.
  • Retired Badass: After the events of Morning Star, he retired from the front lines of the war and went into politics.

     Thraxa au Telemanus
The oldest of Kavax and Niobe's three daughters.
  • Action Girl: She's a Telemanus. This is a given.
  • Artificial Limbs: She has a mechanical arm.
  • Blood Knight: Is the most enthusiastic about fighting out of everyone else in her family, and openly admits that she follows Darrow for the chance to kill her enemies.
I like to kill people I don't like. And your daddy brings 'em like flies

     Xana au Telemanus
One of Kavax and Niobe's daughters.
  • Spear Carrier: Her only line in the entire saga is to remind her father about the Senate's new imigration laws when Lyria asks Kavax to bring her and Liam back to Luna with them.

     Pax au Telemanus
A physically towering member of House Minerva at the Institute and Kavax's youngest son. His family is allied with House Augustus, and so he and Mustang grew up as childhood friends.

     Sophocles
The Telemanus family's pet fox.
