     Current Members

Diana Leah

  • She Also Did: Before her time in Delain, she was mainly known for singing on Trance records. This made her a slightly unusual choice to replace Charlotte, as she wasn't known in the metal scene at all before joining Delain.
  • Soprano and Gravel: With Ronald and Ludovico. She can also do her own harsh vocals (as evidenced by her various cover songs she puts online), but has yet to incorporate them into any Delain songs.

Ronald Landa

Ludovico Cioffi

Martijn Westerholt

  • He's Back!: He is back with Delain after having to leave Within Temptation due to illness.
  • I Am the Band: Leader, founding and now only member.
  • Mistaken Age: He is 43 (as of 2023) but could easily pass for ten years younger.
  • Old Hero, New Pals: From the 2002 line-up to now.
  • One Head Taller: Merel and Martijn.
  • Out of Focus: Martijn tends to stand at the back of the stage where he is not really visible. See Face of the Band under Charlotte and Spotlight-Stealing Squad in the general section.
  • Start My Own: Martijn formed the band a year after he left Within Temptation, however, his decision for leaving had nothing to do with creative differences but with health issues, and he had been writing songs for those four years mainly by himself.
  • 10-Minute Retirement: His leaving Within Temptation.

Sander Zoer

     Former Members

Merel Bechtold

Other bands/projects: Dear Mother, ex-Purest Of Pain, ex-Mayan, ex-The Gentle Storm
  • Ascended Extra: Before becoming full-time members, Ruben Israel and Merel Bechtold had both stood in for Sander Zoer and Timo Somers, respectively.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Merel wrote Art Kills (except for the vocals and lyrics, which were written by Charlotte).
  • Badass Adorable: Merel in general.
  • Fun Size: Merel. In addition to being short, everyone calls her cute or a puppy.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Merel against every guy in the band. More effective if you look at her against Otto who is around six foot and she is on the lower end of 5 foot.
  • Mistaken Age: When she first joined the band, she looked 16/17 years old despite being 23.
  • One Head Taller: Merel and Otto/Martijn.
  • Running Gag: Some of the fans calling Merel a puppy.
  • She Really Can Sing: During a live performance of "Suckerpunch", Charlotte caught Merel singing along to the gang vocal hook of the chorus. She lent Merel the microphone as a joke. Merel was actually pretty good!
    • Merel now often sings backing vocals (both in the studio and live) as a member of her post-Delain band Dear Mother.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Originally just a touring member/stand-in for Timo (as he had a full schedule) was added as the band's permanent second guitarist. The last time the band had two permanent guitarists was 2007.
  • Start My Own: Left the band in 2019 because she wanted to put more time into creating her own music via her new band Dear Mother.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Tomboy to Charlotte's girly-girl.
  • Two Girls to a Team: Charlotte & Merel.

Ruben Israel

Other bands/projects: Dear Mother
  • Ascended Extra: Before becoming full-time members, Ruben Israel and Merel Bechtold had both stood in for Sander Zoer and Timo Somers, respectively.
  • Changing of the Guard: From Sander.
  • The Quiet One: He never did an interview and seemed quite reserved compared to everyone else. It didn't help either that he was the drummer.

Rob van der Loo

Other bands/projects: Epica

Ewout Pieters

Charlotte Wessels

Other bands/projects: ex-To Elysium, Phantasma
  • The Ace: As well as being trained in both jazz and classical singing (she later dropped the classical lessons as she found them too restrictive), she has a bachelor's degree in Art History and a masters' degree in Gender Studies. Oh, and she also wrote a novella called "The Deviant Hearts" to accompany the debut Phantasma album.
  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: Who do you think is the frontwoman? Probably the one with red hair.
  • Fiery Redhead: Charlotte.
  • Mistaken Age: She is 32 (As of 2019) but looks like she could be in her early-mid 20s.
  • Of Corsets Sexy: Charlotte rocked this look during the 2013 US tour.
  • Soprano and Gravel: Charlotte sings beautifully and can growl (which she has done live and in the studio), she just prefers to sing for fear that growling will ruin her voice.
    • She has done harsh vocals on a couple of live performances of The Tragedy of the Commons and the studio versions of The Glory and the Scum and Pendulum. She even did them on Dark Sarah's Aquarium.
  • Team Mom: You don't even need to meet Charlotte to know she is this. It becomes super apparent in interviews.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: While Charlotte is said to be 1.67m, Ruben is just smaller than her.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Girly-girl to Merel's tomboy.
  • Two Girls to a Team: Charlotte & Merel.

Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije

  • Balls of Steel: Midway through a concert in Birmingham in 2014, Otto famously got shot in the family jewels by a streamer cannon, rupturing his left testicle and causing him to bleed 500 milliliters into his scrotum. He didn't even notice at first.
    • Turned into a delayed Groin Attack afterward, because when he did notice, he finished the show (even delivering Harsh Vocals) in some considerable pain, went to the ER lickety-split afterward and took a month off touring to recover.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: Otto was usually the tallest member of the band while he was in it. The fact that he plays the bass (which is the heaviest instrument you can walk around with on stage) makes it even more obvious.
  • Changing of the Guard: From Rob
  • Gentle Giant: Despite being the tallest, he is a teddy bear of a baron.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Otto against Charlotte & Merel.
  • Large Ham: Otto and Timo both have aspects of this in live shows.
  • One Head Taller: Otto and Merel.
  • Soprano and Gravel: Gravel to Charlotte's Soprano.

Timo Somers

Other bands/projects: Carthagods
  • A Day in the Limelight: Timo co-wrote Turn the Lights Out and wrote The Silence is Mine (except for the vocals and lyrics, which were written by Charlotte).
  • Changing of the Guard: From Ewout.
  • Large Ham: Otto and Timo both have aspects of this in live shows.
  • Formerly Fit: He put on quite a bit of weight during his time in the band.

Joey de Boer

Other bands/projects: ex-Purest Of Pain, Mayan, ex-Dear Mother
