Yuya Sakaki

YuyaVision is a fanfic which covers Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V and WandaVision crossover by Green_Phantom_Queen. And for those who know her work in the Infinity Train: Blossomverse, this can only mean one thing.

...Or not, as Yuya wakes up to a beautiful day in Maiami City and everything is perfect! No wars, no struggles, no Academia. He's off to You Show Duel school with Sora Shiunin and his brother Yuri and...

Wait, since when did Yuya have brothers?

But it's all fine and dandy as the CEO of Leo Duel Corp. is ensuring that Maiami City is getting Yuya prepared to fight against the dreaded Lancers.

Just what is going on in Paradise? That's the driving question of the fanfic as Yuya is determined to ensure he gets his paradise.

One way or another.

A spinoff, YuyaVision: Seraph of Synchro was uploaded on December 16, 2021, following Jack Atlas trying to watch the events that would lead to Neo-Domino's transformation. Another spinoff, YuyaVision: Doppleganger Court was uploaded on January 27, 2022 which follows the idea of what happpened if Shingo tried to sue Yuya for "attacking him" at the warehouse. A third spin-off, ''YuyaVision: Broken Side of the Mirror was uploaded on March 5th, 2022 by OhmaRevive which tells of how the Performapals and the monsters from the Bracelet Girls' decks struggle to fight back against Zarc. A fourth one, YuyaVision: Church Going was uploaded on April 17th, 2022, which explains how Zarc created the new and "improved" Fusion dimension of repenting sinners.

    General
  • Adaptational Comic Relief:
    • José was The Stoic of the Wise Men in the show. But due to having to deal with Lucciano's eccentricities and that of whatever Kiryu/Yusei/Placido are planning, he comes off as an Only Sane Man and The Comically Serious who is in constant need of ibuprofen to deal with the antics of everyone else.
    • Speaking of Lucciano, the fanfics ramps up his Creepy Child antics until he's a grinning loon that wants nothing than to paint the town red.
  • Adaptational Karma: Numerous villains and jerks get this.
    • Leo Akaba got away scot free with all of his crimes. Zarc gives him a Mind Rape by making him forget everything about Ray before leading him to his fate.
    • The Tops just changed after Yuya's victory. They're now in the place of the Commons and the Commons now rule Neo-Domino.
    • Academia is never punished for being solicit with carding people. They are now a reformed Creepy Cathedral who talk about atonement, being unable to enter "paradise" and many students mutilate themselves.
    • In Doppleganger Court, Reiji and Shingo get karma for their actions during the first part of Season 1, endagnering lives, stealing Yuya's cards and nearly made him lose his school over Shingo's accusations.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Placido in the anime hated Yusei for destroying his Duelbot while Yusei wasn't even aware of Placido's existence until it's spelled out to him. In here, Placido and Yusei fall in love and become a couple. Likewise instead of being brothers/enforcers once with Kiryu, this fic has Yusei find Kiryu in the Facility, rescue him and Kiryu also ends up falling in love with Yusei.
  • Arc Words:
    • "Paradise", reflecting Yuya's wish to have the dimensions at peace. Bonus points as Maiami City in the dub is called "Paradise City".
    • "Smile World", which is a card sacred to the Sakaki family, and Yuya's wishes to make everyone smile no mater the cost.
  • Author Appeal:
    • Psychological Horror of course. The author even jokes that her name should be Green "Psychological Horror" Queen after this.
    • The author ships Kiryu and Yusei and made them a wholesome couple because she was tired of the usual violent Dark Signer stories or the bittersweet post-Crashtown fanfics she kept seeing.
    • Descriptions of food, as usual, and scenes of people actually cooking.
  • Black Comedy: If there's any comedy to be found in this series, it's black as the night.
  • Framing Device: The series are usually played out like a TV series that people are watching, highlighted by the chapters of YuyaVision being called "Episodes".
  • Genre-Busting: The stories are a fusion of different shades of horror, with a pinch of comedy, a dash of romance and the secret ingredient of Mind Screw.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming:
    • For YuyaVision: Each chapter is called "Episode" and is named after a line from a song coming from 35MM: A Musical Exhibition.
      • Episodes 1 - 4 are from "Stop Time"
      • Starting from Episode 5, the titles come from "Crazytown".
    • Seraph of Synchro: Each chapter is called "Verse" and named after a line from the 35 MM song "The Seraph".
    • The Other Side of the Mirror takes its titles from the lyrics of "Daydream Believer".
  • Meta Fiction: The stories play out with people assuming they know tropes and how things can change in an adaptation, going hand in hand with the psychological horror aspect because you don't know what's the same and what's not. Moreover, just like in WandaVision, there are multiple people looking into these chapters as if this is nothing but a television series and are reacting just like how the audience would.
  • Spiritual Antithesis: The Synchro Dimension's main couple (Placido/Yusei/Kiryu) is played out like the reverse of the main couple of My Dark King (Jack/Carly). While Dark Signer Carly revives Jack and gives him a vision that makes him become Dark King of the Earth, Placido saves an amnesiac Yusei from drowning and shows him a future where he is Z-One who saves the planet. Jack and Carly are already in love whereas it takes Placido and Yusei (and later Kiryu) some time to fall in love with one another. While Jack and Carly are shown to have sex, Yusei and Placido take comfort in each other's arms and cuddle. While Jack is proactive in wanting to take over the world, loudly proclaiming he is the Dark King, and Carly is pushed to the side, Yusei and Placido work together to help turn Neo-Domino into paradise with Yliaster from the sidelines. Most of Jack and Carly's scenes are stuck in their palace, while Yusei and Placido like to do more mundane things like cooking or go grocery shopping. Last, both Jack and Carly realized that they're really being played the Earthbound Immortals, while Yusei and Placido know they work for Zarc and accept it.
  • Take That!:
    • Aside from the author's dislike of the ending of Arc-V, she wrote the fanfic to counter complaints on fics that have Zarc win and he's always torturing Yuya the most out of the counterparts, and wanted to have a story where Yuya used Zarc's powers for his own use.
    • The author also expresses annoyance in how most Kiryu/Yusei stories she has read are either focused when both of them are Dark Signers or it's Crashtown arc and their romance is either bittersweet (at best) or are very abusive and toxic (at worst) which is why she has them as a soft, loving couple.
    • Fusion's arc is of Academia turned into a repenting church because the author felt like Fusion gets away way too easily for their crimes.
    • Doppleganger Court is all about deconstructing Shingo and Reiji's actions in Episodes 3 - 4 and Shingo's flimsy accusation on Yuya assaulting him by showing how much trouble they'd be in if this was brought up under a legal system. The author herself hates these two for being either idiots or because they do unethical actions without any karma and how it's okay for them since they're the protagonists.
    • In Seraph of Synchro, the author states that she disliked how My Dark King made Carly a Faux Action Girl after she resurrected Jack and that she doesn't get as much importance in the romance of the story.

    YuyaVision
  • Actually Pretty Funny: When Kiryu states that Yliaster HQ looks like hell, José, the most stoic of the three Wisemen, chuckles at this.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Reiji (Declan) and Reira (Riley) go by Akasaka and not Akaba in Yuya's new reality.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Placido was based on Aporia who lost someone he loved, with flashbacks revealing the interest was female. In the story, Placido falls in love with Yusei and Kiryu — and states that the love interest was a male — so he went from straight to gay, same with Yusei and Kiryu themselves.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Yuya is no longer the duelist who wished to duel for smiles; now he's willing to make sure everyone stays smiling in his happy paradise, no matter the cost.
    • Yusei becomes converted into Z-One and is willing to laugh at how Jack Atlas became a ghost.
    • Kiryu zigzags this; while he was a villain as a Dark Signer, he's depicted as his post-Crashtown arc self, making him somewhere in the middle.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Invoked. Reiji Akaba — now Declan Akasaka — doesn't have Pendulum monsters and has a meeker personality, mostly caused by Zarc's meddling.
  • All Crimes Are Equal: In Fusion, even if you did defect and never carded a single soul, you're still subjected to Zarc's whims. Alexis ran away and joined Yusho's You Show Duel School, but in the new Fusion, she's now a brainwashed pawn who helps run Neo-Academia.
  • All-Powerful Bystander: Yliaster are a group of androids who have the capabilities of rewriting time to their own means, so there is nothing stopping them from either preventing the dimensional wars to exist by erasing Akaba, stopping the Heartland invasion or even stopping Yuri from kidnapping Rin. However, they decide to just let things play out and intervene in smaller ways, including erasing Yusei and Kiryu's existence, since they're all actively working under Zarc.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Is Yuya brainwashed? Not Brainwashed? Is it Zarc possessing him? How much of Yuya's actions are his doing? One chapter begins with Zarc hypnotising Yuya to act as his son.
  • Ambiguous Situation:
    • Just what is going on with this new world? Is it all Yuya's doing? Is Zarc manipulating him? How much is it Yuya, how much is it Zarc?
    • What caused Jack Atlas to become a ghost? Episode 13 reveals that it's the result of the Crimson Dragon
  • And I Must Scream:
    • It's heavily implied that everyone in Maiami City is in a state like this when they're forced to smile without their consent.
    • Thanks to the Crimson Dragon, Jack's new form has him unable to be seen, heard or felt by anyone. He's essentially cut off from the world.
  • Aside Glance: Performapal Laugh Maker (who looks suspiciously like Zarc) winks at the audience in the "Dimensional Pendulums" ad.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Nakajima talking to the head of Leo Corp. with grey hair. The final line of the scene reveals that in this reality, Zarc is the head of Leo Corp., not Reiji.
  • Big Eater: After getting new augmentations and cybernetic enhancements, Kiryu's appetite has also increased. When he invites Yugo and Rin for ramen, he's ordered three to four bowls for himself.
  • Breather Episode: After nothing but horror (psychological and surreal), Episode 8 is a hilarious Courtroom Antics inspired comedy skit.
  • Broken Record: Episode 7 has Yuya play footage of Daiki constantly saying, "You can cut the act right about now, Yuya Sakaki." as proof that Daiki and Theodore's encounter with Yuya has been replayed multiple times. Maybe.
  • Combat Tentacles: Kiryu sports "Doc Ock tentacles" as shown in Episode 11 apparently for no reason aside from they're cool.
  • Composite Character:
    • Z-One in this universe is a converted Yusei Fudo as opposed to an unnamed scientist using plastic surgery and a headpiece to emulate Yusei.
    • Placido combines traits of Bruno/Dark Glass/Antimony as a robot that Yusei gains an attachment to.
  • Courtroom Antics: Episode 8 is one of Zarc putting Yusho on trial, made more comical because the courtroom for this trial is tiny because the builders assumed the measurements were in centimeters, not inches.
  • Creepy Cathedral: Academia has now become an abbey that is used to teach potential students what it means to "atone", filled with smiling students who are all ranked into classes based on the Sacred Beasts, and Raviel Blues mutilate themselves as atonement for the chaos they inflected on the Xyz Dimension. Yikes.
  • Cruel Mercy: Discussed. Zarc tells Haou that what he's done to the Fusion Dimension (read: Turn them into a religious cult who will do all they can to "atone" for their sins) is a much more merciful fate in mind. After all, they aren't dead or a horrible fate, but making them self-sacrificing cultists who are willing to cripple themselves doesn't seem all that kind, now does it?
  • Dare to Be Badass: Jounochi spells out to Yusho that the only way to fix things is to make his duel deck stand out, not mope about what he could've done sooner.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Yusei hates coffee for three various reasons: 1) it's a reminder of Jack and his love of instant coffee, 2) coffee makes him go into overdrive and even more of a workaholic and 3) he's not able to focus on a duel.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Advertisements start playing in Kaiba Corp. just as it gets to the Synchro arc, to make our heroes in the dark on what's going on.
  • Dub Name Change: Reiji and Reira are now Declan and Riley respectively, to highlight that something is wrong in this world.
  • Dying Dream: Episode 11 has Kiryu wake up in bed, believing that he's hallucinating everything and he's actually about to die in the Facility alone. He's reassured by Yusei and Placido that it's not the case.
  • Emergency Transformation: Yusei ends up becoming the cyborg, Z-One, after he died when Jack left Commons. At least, that's what Z-One says...
  • Feel No Pain: The intro to Episode 13 has Kiryu and Yusei have hot water cover their hands from crushing the cup ramens too hard, yet neither of them even flinch.
  • Freak Out: Syrus did this when he read his brother's letter in how he deliberately crippled himself and gave him the Power Bond Car.
  • Full-Circle Revolution: The Commons and the Tops have switched places in Neo-Domino...in more ways than one, with former Commons hunting down Tops for cathartic kicks.
  • Gender Flip: Aporia's love interest, Eurithea, is male in this iteration.
  • Getting Smilies Painted on Your Soul: Just like in WandaVision, the citizens of Maiami City are forced to always be happy and play their parts to make Yuya's dream of paradise a reality.
  • Glasgow Grin: Episode 7 has practically everyone in Maiami City wear one of these to highlight if Yuya is so determined to have everyone smiling.
  • A Glass in the Hand: When Kiryu hears from José that the current plan against Neo-Domino is just to wait and do nothing, he shatters one in frustration.
  • Hidden Depths: Yoko bursts out sobbing when she watches the Girl from Nowhere episode "Lost and Found" (in which the titular character Nanno must break the heart of the focus character TK who only asks that she don't disappear on him.) Who would've thought Yoko was a romantic?
  • Holding Hands: Yusei and Kiryu do this while escaping the Facility. Kiryu makes the analogy of videogame of a boy and girl doing the same thing to escape a castle.
  • Hope Is Scary: Discussed. After Yusei and Placido free Kiryu from the Facility, Yusei is concerned that Kiryu will not trust them at all despite giving him hope.
Yusei: But...maybe he’s afraid of it [his hope] shattering. That somehow the solid ground beneath his feet will crumble if he takes another step.
  • I Kiss Your Hand: Non-royalty version. Yusei does this to Kiryu as he starts waking up in Yliaster.
  • Implied Death Threat: Placido notes to Lucas Swank that Xavier (Kiryu in disguise) has gotten a hankering for headcheese while placing his blade to Lucas's throat.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Even though Kiryu just coincidentally bumped into Yugo and Rin, the events of Yuri are kidnapping her and Yugo chasing after them still play out due to Placido telling Kiryu to not intervene. Whether or not this affects Yugo later down the line is another story.
  • Just One Man: Yusei internally notes how he and Jack have such power to change Neo-Domino.
Yusei growls at the unfairness of it all. Jack was just one small man who could do more to change Neo-Domino but wouldn’t, and Yusei is one small man who is supposedly the savior of the future? If this wasn’t so concerned, he would be laughing at how Lady Destiny loved playing games like this.
  • Karmic Transformation: Despite having so much power, Jack barely does anything to help Neo-Domino. The Crimson Dragon decides that Jack will become a ghost and cannot interact with anyone at all.
  • Kid Has a Point: When Yusei has trouble choosing between Kiryu and Placido, Lucciano chimes in to just have both of them as his boyfriends if he loves them so much.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler:
    • The author makes no attempt to hide that this is based off of Season 3 of Arc-V so you better know who Zarc and Ray are to make sense of it.
    • The story doesn't spoil the ending to Dark Side of Dimensions as it's reference that Kaiba took the Quantum Cube to the afterlife and hasn't been seen in a while.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall:
    • Episode 8 starts with Yusho asking how many episodes he's just seen and his answer is about six or seven, reflecting how each chapter is called "Episode".
    • Jack's narrations notes that what he's seeing with Yusei seems like something out of a sci-fi horror fanfiction...which is what this story is.
  • Lifesaving Misfortune: Jaden never went to Academia because he failed his written exams, thus depriving Akaba of a very powerful and very dangerous duelist.
  • Love Confession: Episode 12 has a scene where Yusei confesses how he loves both Placido and Kiryu and wishes to spend the rest of his life with them.
  • Mask of Sanity: Yuya's smiles are really hiding that he's clearly not sane in the slightest, no matter how hard he tries to admit that he's fine.
  • Meaningful Name: Specter's undercover name is "Daiki" because his seiyuu is Daiki Kaijimoto and Daiki can be written for the kanjis of "Big" and "Tree", reflecting his Sunavalon monsters. The author headcanons Daiki to be Specter's "original" name.
  • Mood Whiplash: Episode 15 starts with Jack seeing Yusei happier than he's ever been and lamenting his mistakes before it cuts to Jaden stuffing himself silly with ramen and shrimp tempura.
  • More than Mind Control: Yusei's transformation into Z-One is shown to be more complicated than just a mindwipe.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Kiryu with his four robotic tentacles is a force to be reckoned with.
  • Mundane Utility: Kiryu's tentacles are essnetially four extra arms for him to carry stuff or help with cooking.
  • Mythology Gag: The fact that Yusei ends up amnesiac when found by Yliaster is actually from the dub version of Episode 13.
    • Yusei decides to enter the Friendship Cup under the name "Taro Daimon", which was a fake name he was going under thanks to Blister (the dub changed it to "Yusei Adams").
  • Nonchalant Dodge: Zarc does this to Haou when the latter throws a chair at him.
  • Noodle Incident: How The Knights of Hanoi got entangled in this entire mess as it relates to something involving "The Crimson Dragon, portals and links".
  • No-Sell: The En cards did nothing on Zarc and he decided to reset the world with Yuya into the pristine, saccharine paradise of Yuya's dreams.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Discussed; Jaden decides to act stupid and play along with the new Academia because no one would expect a fool like him to have something up his sleeve.
  • Official Couple: Yusei, Placio and Kiryu are one in the Synchro Dimension.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Tsukikage doesn't smile — it's a ninja thing — so it's a sound for alarm when his memories are wiped that he has a "blissful smile" on his face.
    • Jaden is always laid back and goofy, even during horrible situations. So when he reads the letter Syrus got from Zane that explains how Zane purposefully crippled himself, he tears the letter to shreds and states that they have to get out immediately.
  • Parody Commercial: Just like its inspiration, there are commercials that symbolize Yuya's past.
    • The blatant product placement for Omega Mart products play out like this.
    • The Dimensional Pendulums ad plays out like Yuya was giving friendship bracelets to his counterparts but giving a bracelet to Yuzu causes them to vanish, symbolizing how her bracelet was used to ensure the counterparts never got together. Laugh Maker even states how 4 is a "reuniting", representing how all Zarc fragments had to "reunite" for him to be reborn. The tagline "Swing into Action!" is Yuya's catchphrase in the dub.
    • Clear Wing Motorcycles plays out on how Yugo is fighting off a red-dragon based rider in a motorcycle race, reflecting Yugo's dream to duel Jack Atlas in the Friendship Cup. The tagline, "Spread your wondrous wings" is based on Clear Wing Synchro Dragon's summon chant.
    • The ad for Neo-Heartland plays out like a circa-1950 commercial of sleepy suburbia.
  • Polyamory: It's confirmed by the author that Yusei, Placido and Kiryu are a threesome with Episode 12 focused on how they came together.
  • Psychological Horror: One of the tags in the story and given this is made by the author who knows her way around it, from her Blossomverse stories, not to mention how WandaVision was rifed with it, it's safe to say that this will be the bread and butter of the fanfic.
  • Ramen Slurp: In Episoe 13, Yusei, Kiryu and Placido do this with the numerous cup ramens they brought. In the in-universe episode, Yugo does this when Kiryu invites him and Rin for ramen at a ramen stall, as this will be the first time he's tasted traditional ramen.
  • Rescue Romance: Yusei, Placido and Kiryu came together this way. Placido saved Yusei from nearly drowning and Yusei then saved Kiryu from execution in the Facility.
  • Restart the World: What Zarc did thanks to Yuya's wish to have paradise.
  • Religious Horror: The Fusion channel has shades of this since the former castle is now an abbey where the classes are now named after the Sacred Beasts, they all wear robes and lead prayers of how the Fusion dimension is not worthy to enter Paradise, along with signs of mutilation on their parts.
  • Robosexual: Yusei and Kiryu are in a threesome with the android Placido.
  • Rule of Cool: The only reason Lucciano can come up with as to why Kiryu has Combat Tentacles. Word of God admits that the reason behind them came from a Discord session with a friend while generating ideas and "suddenly has Doc Ock tentacles" came up and she put it in because of this trope.
  • Second Love: Yusei is considered this to Placido/Aporia as they comment on how they lost their original lover, Eurethea, long ago.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Shout-Out Theme Naming: The names Kiryu gives his tentacles are Sei, November, Oleg and Ludovico, the protagonists of Palimpsest.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man:
    • Yuya notes that his mother is into stories like this as it reflects how she met Yusho. True to form, she has just finished watching the episode of Girl From Nowhere where TK stole Nanno's heart and is crying her heart out.
    • In a Gender Flip version of this, both Kiryu and Placido fall in love with Yusei for being an altruistic soul who cares about their well-being.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: When Yusei is unsure as to who he should choose over Kiryu and Placido, Lucciano pipes up with just take both of them if he loves the two equally. Yusei agrees.
  • Stepford Smiler: Yuya, as usual, but instead of hiding his pain, he's hiding his shredded sanity.
  • Stepford Suburbia: The commercial for Neo-Heartland shows it as a happy suburbia...while also implying that it doesn't look real.
  • Story Arc: The dimensions are divided into "Channels" that depict what's going on in the new dimensions.
    • Pendulum Dimension is about Yuya living his happy life in Maiami City while his father has to watch it, stuck in Domino City.
    • Synchro Dimension is focused on how it was taken over by Yliaster, Yusei is Z-One and Jack Atlas is a ghost and how it got there.
    • Fusion Dimension focuses on Jaden Yuki/Haou entering Academia to see what Zarc has done to the Academia that's now a repenting church.
    • Xyz Dimension is about how it transformed into a Stepford Suburbia and what happened to Yuma Tsukumo.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Stated by the author itself, the Synchro Channel is an explanation as to why Yliaster should not exist in the Arc-V universe.
  • That Man Is Dead: Z-One declares this about his former self, Yusei but is willing to be called that if it makes Jack feel better.
  • Toy Transmutation: The Xyz Channel is dedicated to this as there's a machine that turns people into dolls and take their hearts out.
  • Uncanny Valley: The people in the commercial for Neo-Heartland are noted to have too wide eyes, too wide of a smile and the entire place looks artificial or plastic all to reflect how it's a Stepford Suburbia.
  • Visual Pun: When Zarc throws Yusho out of the Pendulum Dimension, they broke through four walls.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Episode 6 reveals that Daiki is Specter from VRAINS and apparently his and "Theodore's" attempts to enter Maiami City have happened over and over again.
    • Episode 7 shows The last few chapters are being seen by Yusho Sakaki with the following episode.
    • Episode 9 is focused on the Synchro Dimension that is run by Yliaster and has the holy priest Z-One be a converted Yusei Fudo.
    • Episode 10 ends with The reveal of Kiryu Kyosuke working with Yliaster. A Kiryu Kyosuke with robotic tentacles on his back.
    • Episode 15 has Jaden appears and Zarc is tempting Haou to enter Academia to see what he's cooked up.
  • Wham Line:
    • In Episode 6, Daiki states that Yuya's reign of terror is over. But Yuya seems calm about it. Why?
Yuya: Is that all you have to say? No wait, that’s what you always say.
    • And the closing line of Episode 6 when Zarc is interview "Daiki"?
Zarc: So, without further ado, congratulations on becoming part of the proud and elite Leo Duel School, Specter.
    • The end of Episode 7 has this line:
Yusho: ...How many times have I had to watch this madness?
    • The last two lines of Episode 9:
Z-One: State your name and business entity.....No. State your business, Jack Atlas.
    Jack: Yusei...you can see me?
    • So I gave up my mobility.
  • What If?: The fanfic plays with it with each dimension presumably having this question asked.
    • In general: "What if Yuya decided to team with Zarc to make the world how he wanted to?"
    • Synchro: "What if Yliaster got involved with Arc-V?"
    • Fusion: "What if Fusion was turned into a religious sect as punishments for following Akaba's teachings?"
    • Xyz: "What if Heartland was restored into a Stepford Suburbia?"
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Kiryu states this in regards to Jack's fate. The only answer is that the group likes Best Served Cold in their revenge plan.
Kiryu: And why can't we [he, the Wise Men and Yusei] just fucking blow Jack's brains out right now?! Or do what you just did to me and make sure he never existed?

    Seraph of Synchro
  • Abusive Parents: From what little we saw of Leo and Luna's parents, they did show some concern when Luna fell into a coma at age 3 and in the anime they're mostly going on conferences and businesses trips. This one shows them as not even caring about their children's feelings at the slightest (although the father is the more concerned about the two).
  • Adaptation Amalgamation: The story eventually becomes an adaptation of the Dark Signers arc but with Yliaster added in the mix before Arc-V is up and running.
  • Adaptational Badass: Carly completely wrecks Leo with her Fortune Lady deck that now has new support through the likes of new Spells and a Synchro monster.
  • Adaptational Gender Identity: In Verse 6, Kiryu realizes that he's genderfluid and crafts his female side as "Kallen" while Placido admits that he's non-binary and requests to be given "They/Them" pronouns. Meanwhile, Grady admits that he's trans.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Carly's sights were only for Jack with some hints that she was crushing on Misty too; here, it's revealed that she swings both ways. Meanwhile, Grady had little to no character traits but the fanfic has him asexual.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Yusei's relationship with Akiza in the anime had them slowly warming up to one another with the Yusei of this timeline seeing how they would get married, have children and life Happily Ever After. This iteration of Yusei and Akiza has them as bitter enemies since Yusei (as Taro) doesn't give a damn about Akiza's Freudian Excuse and tells her to stop whining and do something already!
  • Alliterative Title: Seraph of Synchro.
  • all lowercase letters: The titles for each chapter is written like this. Verse 4 has the first letter for "Angel" and "Seraph" capitailzed to emphasize the religious symbolism.
  • Ambiguously Gay:
    • Grady comments that Misty isn't dating guys at the moment, but doesn't confirm if she's lesbian.
    • Whether or not Jack is gay is up in the air; he seems to not notice that he has plenty of people crushing on him (like Mikage) but he also has to be in denial over how Yusei has a happy live with his boyfriends/"wives".
  • Ambiguous Situation: Did Yliaster have a hand in killing Leo and Luna's parents or was it all an accident and they're just taking advantage of it?
  • Appeal to Worse Problems: Yusei may have initially broken down out of guilt about outright forgetting about his friendship with Crow until after he and Shinji died in a fire and were revived as Dark Signers, but when he actually went to "apologize," he relied upon this trope. He explained to his furious "friend" that Crow was a low priority because the Dimensional War came first; in fact, when Crow and Shinji didn't immediately buy Yusei's explanation about other dimensions based off one Duel Monsters card, Yusei coldly told them that if they didn't get on board, Yliaster would declare them enemies and kill them again
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Crow and Shinji look at Yusei like he's crazy when he shows them a Fusion card and talking about other dimensions just after they got revived by the Earthbound Immortals.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Luna makes one after Yliaster reveals they had a hand in killing her and Leo's parents. Why not just save their parents from the taxi crash instead? This one elicits a Mass "Oh, Crap!" from the five.
  • Ascended Extra: Jaeger only had a few seconds cameo in Arc-V. Here, he has a bigger role as host for one of the only legal tournaments in the Synchro Dimension.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Kiryu, as Kallen, gets a lot of men to stare at how beautiful (s)he is.
  • Audience Surrogate: Jack in the present acts like this as he tries to make sense as to what's going on in the series and gets invested in the plot to the point he goes "one more episode" when it's nearly sunrise.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Leo wants his parents to die after they head off to work once more. After they leave the Atlas Rising premiere, the taxi both Mr. and Mrs. Futago were in gets into a crash...
  • Big Brother Bully: Red Dragon Archfiend acts like this to Stardust Dragon, telling the latter to leave while the former has his new flight of Red Dragons by his side.
  • Broken Record: The first chapter has Yusei repeating "With..." before he is given a reset by Placido. Presumably, this is due to him trying to access information he's not supposed to.
  • Bystander Syndrome: All of the Signer Dragons not named Stardust or Black-Winged Dragon (who is dead) would rather just wait around and have Yusei gather them together than actively search each other out. This is what convinces Stardust to join Yliaster. Brilliant strategy, guys.
  • Cassandra Truth: Yusei tries to convince a recently turned Dark Signer Crow and Shinji about the other dimensions by showing the Fusion monster Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste. Neither of them believe him and that makes Yusei realize that the entire Dimension won't be willing to accept the idea of other dimensions easily.
  • Cast Full of Gay: Yusei, Kiryu and Placido are revealed to be gay — with Kiryu gender-fluid and Placido non-binary — Carly is bisexual and Grady is both transgender and asexual.
  • Catapult Nightmare: Yusei has one of the Crimson Dragon keeping him in shackles all while the fully complete Crimson Dragon mark burns on his back.
  • Composite Character: As "Taro Daimon", Yusei gives the audience a What the Hell, Hero? speech about how they look down on Lio because of him being a Tops, like how Bommer chewed the audience out for stating that Yusei was a loser cause he was from Satellite.
  • Crash-Into Hello: Kiryu encounters Grady this way and apparently that's how Carly and Grady first met.
  • Creepy Crossdresser: In Leo and Luna's eyes, Kiryu (who came out as gender-fluid) is like this seeing that they were kidnapped and have to learn that Yliaster killed their parents.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Black-Feathered Dragon is dead to explain why Arc-V Crow doesn't have him.
    • Both Paradox and Antimony are also dead, same with the original Z-One.
  • Dramatic Drop: José drops his coffee mug when Luna states her Armor-Piercing Question.
  • Epigraph: The prologue opens with Revelation 20:1.
  • Exact Words: When Yusei asks Kiryu/Kallen to marry him, Kallen states that it's impossible cause Yusei Fudo doesn't exist. Yusei agrees...so he suggests that he makes a cover identity called Yusei Adams instead.
  • Face–Heel Turn:
    • Stardust Dragon leaves the other Signer dragons behind to work with Yusei and Yliaster after seeing signs that they don't want to work on coming together.
    • Crow and Shinji become Dark Signers in retaliation for Yusei's involvment with Yliaster.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • While making breakfast, and after having a burning sensation on his arm, Yusei briefly stares at the knife he's holding. He later decides to cut the Crimson Dragon sign off his arm with a knife.
    • After a love making session, Yusei and Kiryu comment on wanting to adopt some children, a girl and a boy. Then Leo and Luna arrive...
  • Foregone Conclusion: Yusei, along with Yliaster, will "save" the Synchro Dimension, but Jack wants to know how it happened and if he can figure out how to undo it all.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • Discussed. Kiryu questions what would've happened if Jack didn't betray Yusei and hauled Kiryu in jail but dismisses it soon afterwards, happy with what he has right now.
    • If Tanner wasn't in such a rush to wash the dishes, a bottle of cooking oil wouldn't have spilled onto the stove when the tea kettle was boiling, sending the house into flames and killing Crow and Shinji.
  • Gayngst: Carly suffers from the fact that not only is she bisexual, but her main crushes are Jack Atlas and Misty Tredwell, two members of The Beautiful Elite.
  • Gilded Cage: Jack muses that he's essentially given up his life as a Commons for a life in a cage.
He gave up everything he could have had for a slightly bigger cage to live in. A cage that has extravagant furnishings, but a cage all the same.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: While Mikage was jealous of Carly in canon, she ''really' hates her for how open Carly is about her celebrity crushes and tries to get her to f off by replying to her confession post and plans to stuff Jack's schedule so Carly is stood up.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Kiryu and Yusei feel like this towards one another. Kiryu feels like he isn't doing enough for the one who saved him, and Yusei feels like he has to sacrifice himself to save everyone. Fittingly, the song that the chapters are derived from also deal with this type of person. In the end, Kiryu asks to be repurposed to remove his insecurities and be completely devoted to Yusei and Yliaster.
  • I Wished You Were Dead: Leo is so angry at his parents neglecting her and Luna that after going to the Atlas Rising premiere, he doesn't care what happens and he hopes they die. The taxi they end up in crashes into a tree...
  • Last Request: The original Z-One requested Aporia to go back in time and convince Yusei to become the true Z-One, as the scientist realized he could never be like the original.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Jack apparently was so isolated by Roget that he didn't know about Akiza at all. In fact, he's concerned as to why he missed out on a lot of obvious signs about Kiryu and Yusei's activities, Leo and Luna's parents dying and Crow and Shinji being Dark Signers.
  • Lonely at the Top: Jack is alone in the world and he knows it. Yet he keeps staying this way instead of trying to fix things for the better.
  • The Main Characters Do Everything: Deconstructed. Verse 4 is all about Zarc drilling it into Stardust Dragon's head that the Crimson Dragon essentially relies on Yusei to convince the Signers to work together because the Crimson Dragon doesn't really want to communicate about the situation. And after Stardust fails to convince the other dragons to join forces, he learns that this lesson is right and leaves the Crimson Dragon to work with Yliaster.
  • Manly Tears: Yliaster, mostly men, does not shy away from crying or exposing their more vulnerable sides.
  • Masculine, Feminine, Androgyne Trio: As of Verse 6, Yusei is the Masculine, Genderfluid Kiryu is Feminine and Non-binary Placido is the Androgyne.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Kiryu has this reaction when he learns what he attempted on Yusei in their previous lives and how he wanted to kill Yusei due to a misunderstanding.
    • Tanner has this moment when in his haste to clean the kitchen table, he knocks over a bottle of cooking oil on the gas stove, which would lead to the deaths of Crow and Shinji.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Stardust Dragon's ultimate decision after a talk with Zarc. After seeing how Yusei is so happy being with Kiryu and Placido, not to mention how the other dragons refuse to reunite the Signers for petty reasons, Stardust will work alongside Yliaster.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Kiryu reflects how he took care of Nico and West when their dad lost their memories. WCS 2011 had Enrique survive his fall but ended up with amnesia.
    • Speaking of Crashtown, Barbara duels Yusei with a Harpie Lady Deck; in the same game that Enrique survived, Barbara used Harpie Lady.
    • The Red Dragon Noodles ad is based on Episode 114 when Team 5Ds has to lure Jaeger out with a promotion for Red Demon Noodles, with Akiza dressed as the Noodle Witch.
  • Non-Human Non-Binary: The author states that she sees Placido in this way and Placido even asks to be called "They/Them" if need be.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Lucciano is a Creepy Child with a wild streak, so he shocks Placido and José when he screams in terror upon seeing Yusei cutting himself with a knife because he never screams like that.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Yusei notes that the only reason the Synchro Dimension is not worse off is because Akaba is too lazy to keep an eye on Roget.
  • Parody Commercial: Red Dragon Noodles is a reference to the Red Demon Noodles from the original anime that stars a young boy (Toby) meeting the Ramen King and Noodle Witch (Divine and Akiza). The fact that Akiza forces Toby to eat ramen until he bursts references how Akiza unwittingly led to Toby's death by telling him to "Follow whatever Divine tells you" and his death from the psychic experiments.
"Red Dragon Noodles: Feel the burn!"
  • Pet the Dog: When Kiryu goes through a Heroic BSoD upon seeing memories of his past life as a Dark Signer and wanting to kill Yusei, Lucciano gives him a comforting pat on the shoulder.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Grady and Carly's relationship in a nutshell as they can cuddle in bed and have comfort with each other about their worries.
  • The Promise: Yusei vows to be the one to save the Synchro Dimension, and asks Kiryu to swear it.
  • Razor Hand: José kills three Duel Chasers this way.
  • Record Needle Scratch: Happens when Lucciano states he's going to school in the Arcadia Movement, because José was removing the needle off of the phonograph to get some silence.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Yusei decides he'll have a public persona called Yusei Adams because even if Jack realizes who this is, no one else is gonna give a damn about him because Yusei Fudo's been wiped out of history. In the present day, Jack can only facepalm on why he didn't realize this sooner.
  • Robosexuals Are Creeps: Crow and Shinji upon being resurrected as Dark Signers look disgusted at the idea of Yusei being in love with Placido, Crow especially since Placido was once trying to kill Yusei in the past timeline.
  • Saved by Canon: José slices the heads off of three Duel Chasers. The only survivor is Officer 227 who has to be alive for his duels against Yugo and Yuya.
  • Sexual Karma: A comment in the first chapter reveals that Kiryu, Yusei and Placido sometimes make love to contrast how they have a happy, wholesome relationship while Jack is alone and has no one.
  • Screw Destiny: The story is about Yusei telling the Crimson Dragon to kiss his ass as he decides that he isn't going to reunite the Crimson Signers and he is firmly fine staying with Yliaster.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Something We Forgot: Played for Drama. Yusei completely forgot about his friendship with Crow. So by the time Crow is resurrected as Uru's Dark Signer and gets glimpses of the past world, he is not happy to see that Yusei didn't seem to communicate about this to him.
  • Strawberry Shorthand: In Verse 2, Kiryu shoves a strawberry into Yusei's mouth as a sign of their love and closeness.
  • "Take That!" Kiss: In Verse 12, Kiryu gives Jack one of these to mock him how Jack is Lonely at the Top.
  • Trans Tribulations: Downplayed but Grady mentioned that his parents kicked out the moment he told them that he "didn't want to wear dresses anymore and call himself Dick Pitt". By the time the story starts, he has a successful job at a gay bar and shares an apartment with Carly.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: After a nice dinner, Crow and Shinji's kids decide to clean up. Unfortuantely, Tanner's haste to get the cleaning cloth had him knock down a bottle of cooking oil on the gas-stove that was boiling tea resulting in the deaths of Crow and Shinji and their resurrection as Dark Signers.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Yliaster are mostly robots who serve Zarc and will turn Synchro into a blissful paradise, but the members do simple things like cook, go shopping, read the news and go to movie premieres.
  • We Used to Be Friends: When Crow remembers his past life with Yusei, he gets pissed off that Yusei forgot about him and is now working with Yliaster and disguising himself as a Tops.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Verse 10: Crow and Shinji die and become Dark Signers.
  • Wham Line: After Yusei rips Stardust Dragon's card in half and Placido and Kiryu are asking how Yusei can convince Stardust to understand, Yusei brings up the only person who can help. It's so shocking that Jack even mometarily pauses the episode to let it sink in.
    Yusei: Lord Zarc.
  • Wham Shot:
    • During the Atlas Rising premiere, Misty smirks as she runs a finger down a purple lizard mark on her arm.
    • In-universe, Yusei flashing Dragon Knight Draco-Equsite, a Fusion monster as a reminder, to try to tell others about the truth of the dimensions.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Both Kiryu/Kallen and Placido give this look when Yusei says he'll make a new identity of Yusei Adams.

    Doppleganger Court
  • Accusation Fic: The fanfic points out how petty and selfish Reiji's actions were in regards to asking Shingo to steal Yuya's Pendulum monsters, endangering four children, and how he could've potentially made Yuya lose his father's school because Shingo wasn't willing to clarify how Yuya "attacked" him.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Yuzu does not mull over the idea of another Yuya attacking Shingo and accurately recalls the differences between them, thus giving Yuya a "Not Guilty" verdict.
  • Bystander Syndrome: The Judge accuses Shingo's cronies and Reiji for this, for allowing Shingo to duel Yuya while Yuzu, Ayu, Futoshi and Tatsuya were stuck on a spire, watching this on the security cameras and not even cancelling the duel to get them to safety.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: It'd be an understatement that Reiji did a lot of underhanded tactics, but now the public will see him as someone who will steal someone's cards and let children die while watching this in the comfort of his own office.
  • Deconstruction Fic: The story deconstructs how there was no police or jury involved with Singo's accusations, and what would happen if they did. End results: the anime essentially hinged on Shingo being an idiot.
  • Did Not Think This Through:
    • The entire court session is about how Shingo jumped to conclusions on "Yuya" attacking him without considering things like appearance and deck. The same thing goes with Reiji and Himika for jumping on Shingo's accusations without a basis of evidence or a lawyer.
    • Reiji let Shingo duel Yuya to "test" the Pendulum Cards while also allowing three minors to be put in a precarious situation that could've killed them if Yuya's Magicians didn't save them.
    • Reiji and Himika directly talked to Shuzo about buying out You Show. Unfortunately, neither of them double checked if he owned the school; turned out the person they should've went to was Yoko Sakaki.
  • Evil Is Petty: More like Amoral is Petty, but this is what everyone thinks of Reiji now.
Lawyer Russel: You are responsible for those who enter your school, whether it be your students or even guests. But all that mattered in the end were two cards?! Are you that petty?"
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • For want of suing Yuya Sakaki, Shingo essentially derails all of Reiji's plans to make the Lancers, mass produce Pendulum monsters and made him lose his job as CEO of Leo Corp. Whoops.
    • Remember when Kiryu met up with Rin and Yugo? This story reveals that because Yugo saw Yuri's face in the duel, he didn't attack Yuto under the assumption that Yuto kidnapped Rin. Thus the two were able to put their differences aside and head to Standard together.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Reiji chose Shingo to help test Yuya's Pendulum monsters...he chose a whiny Spoiled Brat that foolishly didn't think things through and now he's about to lose his job as CEO.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Shingo was overreacting over Yuya attacking him, but he wasn't wrong at the idea of someone trying to skewer him with a spear making him unable to think straight.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: A minor one; Yoko goes to court in her old biker outfit.
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: Shingo wails and cries how his life flashed before his eyes over a tiny scar he got on his shoulder. Even the doctor is rolling his eyes in annoyance.
  • My Life Flashed Before My Eyes: Shingo exclaims this when he was in the hospital...over a scrape.
  • Never My Fault: Shingo refuses to accept his part in how he nearly had four children injured in his duel, stating that it was their fault for getting involved.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Reiji is "never nervous", but he's about to soil himself when Judge Andersen grills him for his mistakes.
  • Papa Wolf/Mama Bear: Shuzo and Yoko are ready to kill Reiji for his negligence in attacking their children.
  • Poor Communication Kills:
    • Shingo didn't focus on what Yuya "looked" like and based it on assumption. Because of this, and when Yuzu brings up the evidence on what "Yuya" looked up, he ends up unable to counter it. Moreover, because he accidentaly blurts out how Reiji told him to steal Yuya's Pendulum monsters, he essentially dragged Reiji, and by extension Leo Duel School and Leo Corp. into a lot of legal hot water.
    • Yoko brings up one before she leaves; she's actually the co-owner of You Show Duel School (Shuzo is just the principal) and was never told that someone wanted to buy her husband's school. Thus Himika and Reiji are even more screwed because they tried to forcefully steal the school without confirming it with her.
    • If Reiji just talked to Yuya about wanting to see the Pendulums instead of this plan to have Shingo steal the cards, or didn't trust Shingo's false accusations, then he wouldn't be in so much hot water.
  • Shout-Out Theme Naming: The author notes reveal tht Judge Andersen and Lawyer Christine Russell are named after characters from Night Court. The former is named for the actor Harry Andersen — who plays Harry Stone — and the latter is named after Christine Post and Roz Russell.
  • Skewed Priorities: Played for Drama. Reiji only wanted Yuya's cards and didn't care if three children could've been gravely injured in Shingo and Yuya's duel. This paints him as an apathetic CEO that would want a profit over safety.
  • Smart Ball: Grabbed by Yuzu and not let go. Instead of dithering over "Yuya" attacking Shingo, she actively tells him what she saw and practically obliterates Shingo's accusations and Reiji's chances of getting You Show.
  • Wham Episode: The fact that Yoko encounters Yugo and Yugo and Yuto are on good terms, meaning Kiryu's actions back in YuyaVision are in effect and neither Yugo nor Yuto are at each other's throats.
  • What If?: "What if Shingo tried to sue Yuya for Yuto's actions back in Episode 7 and what are the legal reprecussions from it?"
  • Would Hurt a Child: Zigzagged. Obviously Reiji wouldn't do it, but the fact that this could've happened during Shingo and Yuya's duel and he didn't seemed bothered by it, tanks his PR.

     Broken Side of the Mirror
  • Big Good: Performapal Sky Magician is this for what's left of the Performapal troupe.
  • Break the Cutie: Performpal Helpprincess feels this way, knowing that Yuya has fallen, Zarc is picking apart the Performapals and the situation is getting worse by the minute.
  • Broken Bird: Tuning Magician is still haunted by how she was seen as pathetic and worthhless in the Synchro Dimension.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Zarc taking away Silver Claw is a reference to the original YuyaVision when Silver Claw is sitting by Zarc's throne.
    • The first chapter runs through what has gone on with the Pendulum Dimension (being turned into a TV show), the Synchro Dimension (being turned into "paradise"), and Academia (repenting for their crimes).
  • Cool Big Bro: Laugh Maker acts like this to Helpprincess.
  • Dance of Romance: The Lunalights have a ritual dance akin to this.
  • Evil Costume Switch: In the first chapter, two Double Ancient Gear Hunting Hounds are now given Zarc-like paint jobs.
  • Face–Heel Turn: All of the archetypes belonging to Yuya and his counterparts have sided with Zarc.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: Instead of focusing on one of the dimensions, the story takes place in the Spirit World. Moreover, this story is written by a different author.
  • Sibling Team: Performapal Lady Ange and Gentle are this, although not by blood.
  • Titled After the Song: The prologue is named after the song Daydream Believer by The Monkees. The song was actually used in one of the trailers for WandaVision

    Dragon's Lair
  • Arc Words: The first chapter has the phrase "Nothing to worry about. Nothing at all." whenever Gongenzaka notices a strange mark on his arm changing or telling him to forget any abnormalities in his world.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The story is focused on Gongenzaka realizing that the paradise upon him is fake and the author herself wanted to write Gongenzaka as a focus character for once.
  • The Chosen One: Gongenzaka is now a new Signer under the Crimson Dragon.
  • Double Standard: The author points out that it's okay if Shun gets mad for losing Yuto and Ruri, but Gongenzaka never gets a chance to griever over losing his friends, Yuya and Yuzu.
  • Hates Being Nicknamed: Gongenzaka does not like being called "Gong Strong" in the slightest.
  • I Warned You: The Crimson Dragon states this when Gongenzaka asks what happened to Shun. The final line of Chapter 2 has Gongenzaka screaming "What the fuck?!" in response.
  • Precision F-Strike: The final line of Chapter 2 has Gongenzaka scream "What the fuck?!" over what he sees in regards to Shun.
