"People are incredibly powerful- incredibly foolish too- but very powerful when hope is the thing fueling them."

The Extradition is an ongoing Dream SMP Fanfiction story written by Onelituli, covering a What-If universe where instead of breaking Dream out and leaving him to his own devices, resident mastermind Technoblade decides to exile him to Hypixel Skyblock in the hopes of securing a fair trial for the man.

Things are not all they seem as the world they left behind wrests with the power vacuum left in their absence. With Philza Minecraft as their only means of return, they begin a journey of atonement and healing even as the shadow of darker threats hang overhead.

An epic fic with a planned total of 41 chapters, it uses a veritable deluge of Continuity Porn featuring familiar characters from Technoblade’s stories told from the perspective of those walking by his side. The setting varies between lighthearted banter and exploration of dark topics covered by the original canon, yet feels like a truly lifelike continuation of what could have happened had Minecraft simply been a more advanced game. As it dives into the implications of dealing with a tyrant, the story makes a convincing argument for rehabilitation rather than punishment.

A spinoff titled With Great Power was published on June 14, 2023, set from former Mayor Seraphine's perspective on the journey in the sky. It answers many questions that may have spawned from the main fic and provides insight into the behind the scenes work done by Hypixel's administration.

NOTES: As per the author, it is not canon compliant with the DreamSMP and there will be no shipping.

    The Extradition

The Extradition provides examples of:

  • Acceptable Breaks from Reality: Dream and Technoblade logging into Hypixel Skyblock together and not instantly being mobbed by hundreds of fans and haters would not fit very well into a story on redemption. The story handwaves this by pointing out too many people cosplay as them for people to recognize them.

  • The Ace: Technoblade. He serves as both the rival and the mentor to Dream during his exile to Hypixel Skyblock. Due to all of his previous exploits being made canon to this fic, he’s almost more hyped up than he is in the main DreamSMP storyline. He’s also keenly aware of Dream’s situation and is responsible for multiple occasions where he helps Dream deal with his own inner demons. It definitely helps that he almost majored in psychology. His Memetic Badass status is definitely well-earned here.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Ranboo, after hearing that Technoblade and Philza broke Dream out of prison, starts panicking. The latter then explains that they didn't let him go free; they trapped him in Hypixel Skyblock with Technoblade. Ranboo immediately starts crying of laughter.
    • Later on Dream suggests using bone meal, not for speeding up the growth of a tree or for getting food, but to grow some grass and flowers. Technoblade finds this hilarious as it doesn't fit the image of a Big Bad.
    • On a Meta level, immediately before Dream's Heroic BSoD in Chapter 6, Technoblade's name is misspelt as Technobalde. The author found this funny and left it in.

  • Adaptational Badass: Skeppy. The fic even makes a point to note that he was skilled, just that he also fumbled a lot and made up for it by blatantly cheating. Here he manages to duel two of the three most skilled fighters, Technoblade and Sapnap, and nearly come out on top! How’s that for the muffinhead?

  • Adaptational Heroism: Instead of a random person, Dream is the one to type killdante to bring the battle to an early close.

  • Adapted Out: ThirtyVirus doesn’t really do much during the attack on Dante and his role is largely given to Dream. He does appear, but only as a cameo.

  • Always Someone Better: From an administrative perspective, Simon Hypixel to Dream. It's heavily implied that Simon is simply the more powerful man between the two which Dream recognizes on their first meeting.

  • Ambiguously Evil: Dante. He’s a dictator who trades freedom for security, and levies minor taxes on everything, but he doesn’t actively do anything that is horribly harmful until the players stage a rebellion.

  • An Aesop: Three such morals. The original Fables even gets a shout-out as one of the books Techno’s reading!
    • Locking someone up rather than rehabilitating them can only be destructive.
    • Just because you’ve done terrible things, doesn’t mean you’re irredeemable.
    • And just because you genuinely work towards a redemption, doesn’t mean the people you’ve hurt will forgive you.

  • Applied Phlebotinum: Server chats are adapted as comlinks that use ley lines. Because of such, they’re able to access other Minecraft servers when set to a particular frequency. This becomes important later on, when the Egg knocks out all forms of communication by damaging the ley lines.

  • Arc Words: The best kind of prisons are those you don’t want to leave.

  • Attack Its Weak Point: Dream and the Syndicate figure out almost too late that the Egg has a taproot, meaning that for all their efforts in destroying the Egg’s tendrils, they haven’t fully eradicated the threat.

  • Back from the Dead: Wilbur Soot, ladies and gentlemen, brought back from the dead to fight against the Egg.

  • Bad Liar: Dream is a terrible liar. His attempt to bring all responsibility upon himself to shield those he cares about all but screams “I’m protecting these guys so you don’t hurt them!”

  • Batman Gambit: Technoblade leaves Dream and goes to sleep in Skyblock, knowing that his desire for safety and comfort wouldn’t allow him to leave his island despite having all the resources to light the portal on the other side. It’s also not necessary, as Techno knows the portal only leads to the Skyblock hub.

  • Bat Deduction: Eret deduces that the hooded figures he saw help save them were Technoblade and Dream. He does this despite the fact that they haven’t been seen for a long while on the server, Phil deliberately misleading Puffy via comlink, and being at an extreme distance.

  • Beary Friendly: Similar to Polar Bear Steve in DreamSMP canon, Polar Bear Baba is very friendly. It is pointed out however that he does give a look that "(he) could kill (Ranboo) if he wanted to" as a reminder that bears are still dangerous.

  • Benevolent Conspiracy: How the Syndicate is portrayed. Most of what they do is for the benefit of the server, though their methods are questionable.

  • Big Badass Battle Sequence: The Goons and Giant Slime Dante facing off against Seraphine's rebellion and the Skyblock players.

  • Big Damn Heroes: The Syndicate arriving at the DreamSMP’s darkest hour to crush the Egg along with Dream. The rescued aren’t too pleased with this.

  • Black-and-Gray Morality: The Syndicate and Dream are the Gray to Dante and the Egg’s Black.

  • Brick Joke: Dream being homeless. After touring Techno's island and discovering he lived in a shack, Dream and Squid point out that he had no right to troll Dream over it.

  • Broken Ace: Dream. Once the administrator and undisputed ruler of the DreamSMP, manhunt master, and rival to Technoblade, long months in the prison have taken a toll on his mental and physical well-being.
    • To a lesser extent, Technoblade himself. He admits to having been under a lot of stress for the longest time and going through roughly the same kind of problem Dream has with his nightmares once he had gotten to a relatively safe point in his life.

  • Call-Back: The Potato War, The 100,000 Duel, Antarctic Empire, and much more are mentioned in passing.
    • Dream being homeless. This becomes a Running Gag up until he builds his first house in the sky.

  • Call to Agriculture: Technoblade and Dream, farming in the sky.

  • The Cameo:
    • Administrator Jayavarmen is seen in the Black Market trolling the players by pointing out the admins specifically told them not to vote for a particular candidate.
    • Just like before, AheamMax is taken aside by Technoblade and told an outlandish lie that he'll ban half of Skyblock and that no one would ever believe him. Similarly, scarletth2007 is named as one of the people Max tries desperately to convince.

  • Cardboard Prison: Pandora's Vault is the first of many prisons that sparked a major Minecraft prison renaissance. Here however, it's cracked open and humiliated in half a chapter. It's justified because, nothing can survive Withers, not even successor prisons were able to do so. Moreover, it's being attacked by Philza and Technoblade.

  • Caring Gardener: Dream grows into one during his exile.

  • Chekhov's Skill: Phil offhandedly brews some tea for a worried Ranboo in Chapter 3. Techno eventually does the same for Dream, claiming it as Phil's tradition. It's eventually revealed that the tradition of hot milk with honey and cinnamon, is Techno's that he shares.

  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe: Because of the semi-realism of the setting, Hypixel Skyblock's items that the players wind up using function this way.

  • Control Freak: Just like in canon, Dream starts off as being one. He mellows out after a while.

  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: In contrast to Quackity's routine bouts of torture which does nothing but hurt a broken man, Exiling Dream to Skyblock actually serves to reform him.

  • Corpsing: Phil, when trying to convince Sam that Technoblade betrayed him, begins laughing due to how ridiculous the situation was. Niki has to cover for him by pulling him into a hug. Thankfully Sam believes this is due to Phil crying, and thus buys their act.

  • Cthulhumanoid: Squid Kid. Similar to how his skin looks in Skyblock, he's described as an "aquatic creature hybrid" and "part squid". Despite such he walks on two feet, has two hands, and is just as "human" as the rest of the players in Skyblock.

  • Deadly Euphemism: Played for laughs. When Phil calls Technoblade for the first time after the breakout, Dream answers. When asked where Techno is, Dream replies that he is indisposed. Only after Phil gives a Big "WHAT?!" does he realize what it sounded like and hastily corrects himself by pointing out Techno was on the roof.

  • Disc-One Final Boss: Dante, Mayor of Skyblock. He’s about as big a threat as he is in the original Hypixel event. Once he’s defeated he’s quickly forgotten and replaced by the much greater threat of the Egg.

  • Do Not Go Gentle: Dante and the Egg put up a significant fight before they’re finally crushed by the protagonists.

  • Dope Slap: Ranboo gives one to Tommy after he proclaims himself the greatest, though it's a friendly variant.

  • Do You Trust Me?: Technoblade asking Phil this kicks off the plot.

  • Easily Forgiven: Averted. While the Syndicate members are more open minded about forgiveness and letting a remorseful Dream earn their trust, other members of the SMP who’ve had a history with him aren’t so quick to forgive. Quackity in particular sees him as his Arch-Enemy and anyone who dares to associate with him is just as bad as he is.
    • Barring Eret, Puffy and Foolish, all of whom weren’t hurt as badly as the rest during the course of Dream and Technoblade’s attacks, everyone else wants revenge. Tommy goes as far to almost split Dream in two after the latter had just saved his life.
    • This also applies to Wilbur, who is essentially a Butt-Monkey. Sam bluntly tells him that nobody likes him, and nobody cares what he has to say, all of which is played for laughs.

  • Enemy Mine:
    • Quackity coming to Phil for help against the Egg. Subverted when it's revealed that the Egg had seduced Quackity with its power into a partnership.
    • Sapnap and Technoblade against the Egg enthralled Skeppy.

  • Epic Fail: Niki tells Dream of the time she and Jack tried killing Tommy with a nuke, and missed.

  • Evil Feels Good: Discussed as early as Chapter 2, concerning L'Mancrater.

  • Exact Words: Every person on the DreamSMP has a limited number of canon lives. Hypixel Skyblock players don’t have the concept of canon lives.

  • Failed a Spot Check: Ranboo failing to notice Techno's pearl chamber is empty despite Phil telling him to watch their stasis chambers. He rightfully suspects Phil and Techno did it on purpose.

  • Fate Worse than Death: Techno threatens Dream that should he deem the latter to be too damaging towards his ideals of freedom, he'll kill him. Dream nervously points out that neither of them can be killed. Techno, undaunted, simply smiles and changes his threat to this.

  • Fire-Forged Friends: See True Companions below.

  • Foil: Quackity, to most of the other major characters. While Dream and the members of the Syndicate have left craters of destruction in their wake, they notably don’t shy away from admitting their flaws. Quackity however, doesn’t seem to see the irony in his own crusade against them breeding a vicious cycle of revenge. For bonus points, he even covets Dream’s Revival Book! Whereas the Syndicate is powerful, Quackity is relatively weak.

  • Foregone Conclusion: Technoblade is destined to lead the rebellion to crush Dante, and to have his kill stolen by another person.

  • Four Is Death: Inverted. Chapter Four is the one where Dream first begins trying to create and grow something, culminating with the emergence of more grass and Hope the Flower.

  • Freedom from Choice: For all that being Control Freak entailed, Dream notes that after he was finally locked up there was a part of him that felt glad he didn't have to control anything anymore.

  • The Gadfly: TimeDeo serves as this to the crew, doing things like riding a pig he named Tekno for the lulz.

  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Livid gets killed by Jiyn. Undeterred, he continues smack-talking the group, while lying dead on the floor.

  • Gilligan Cut: Multiple, in fact.
    • Right after the prison break Sam demands a convocation. As it wraps up, he quietly notes that the server has no idea what "dark machinations" Dream could be up to. Cut to Dream swearing as his inexperience causes the sky island to lose yet another piece of dirt to the void.
    • Ranboo asks Phil how he figures the duo are doing, to which the response was "probably not well". Cut to the narrator stating "Things were indeed not going well."
    • Ranboo and Phil have a discussion in Chapter 8 which concludes with the older man's worry of what Dream could have done in a week. Cut to Dream and Technoblade building a house and bantering over the shack Dream had built previously on Techno's property.
    • Tommy and Tubbo firmly agree that in his absence, Dream is up to something evil. Cut to Dream happily adopting yet another flower and bragging about it to Technoblade.

  • God Is Neutral: Dream XD doesn’t really give a shit about what’s going on. Rather, it’s amused by the Egg being prematurely hatched into a small divine dragon.

  • Godzilla Threshold: Withers are considered to be this. The Syndicate weaponizes them against the Egg, as the Egg is alive and Withers only target living things.

  • Going Native: After five not-so-hellish days in Skyblock, Dream finds that when confronted with the reality of returning to the greater SMP, he doesn't really want to leave. It helps that all he can see ahead of him is more lies and darkness, whereas the Skyblock island behind him represented hope for a better life.

  • Grey-and-Gray Morality: Essentially what the members of the DreamSMP have become in this fic. Most of them have committed heinous crimes, or side with people who have, allowing a terrible cycle of revenge to grow and resentment to fester.

  • The Heart: Niki Nihachu. She’s one of the first people to extend an olive branch to Dream, noting that his situation reminded her of the circumstances under which she met Technoblade. She even teaches him how to bake during his exile.

  • Heel Realization: After the rebellion, Dream has a deep moment of self-reflection with Technoblade where he pinpoints where he went off the beaten path and became what he ended up being.

  • Heroic BSoD / Villainous BSoD: While Dream is neither a hero nor a villain at this point, the tropes still apply to his moment in Chapter 6 when he realizes that no matter what he did, he couldn't escape his past. It's even more apparent on Chapter 17 after Techno calls him a hero, with Dream eventually desperately trying to prove that he's still evil while the guilt of what he's done eats him alive.

  • Heroic Sacrifice: Double-subverted. Technoblade denies this trope as to why he took Dream on a Self-Imposed Exile from the server, reiterating that he did it for himself. Dream thinks it's played straight however, and that Techno is just choosing to believe that he didn't have any good intentions whatsoever.
    • Played straight when Techno chooses to stay and make a stand against Sk-egg-py when Sapnap is downed and about to be killed. This nearly gets himself killed as a result.

  • Hive Mind: The Egg speaks through its thralls and occasionally mimics them to harm the players emotionally.

  • Idiot Ball: Like in canon, the Warden doesn't seem to realize how deadly his prisoner really is despite having created a highly advanced prison for the sole purpose of keeping him there.

  • I Gave My Word: Technoblade's favor is not something he takes lightly. That said, he has plenty of wriggle room on just what to do with Dream after he's broken him out. After all, he only requested to be broken out.

  • Ignored Expert: Tommy, knowing Dream will eventually escape with Technoblade's help, tries begging for Dream to be Killed Off for Real. Unfortunately for him, his pleas fall on deaf ears. Zig-zagged as Dream's escape ultimately doesn't result in terrible things for his captors and former tormentors.

  • I Just Want to Be Free: Deep down, Dream is this, especially after his imprisonment.

  • Insistent Terminology:
    • Hope is a flower, not a weed.
    • Technoblade is a person, not a weapon.
    • Dream's garment he buys is a chlamys, not a shawl. The clasp for the chlamys is a fibula.

  • Insult of Endearment: Dream being a homeless teletubby.

  • Ironic Echo: The usage of the word, "Hero". Before, it was to refer to illustrate the problems with loyalty for a cause, especially when the cause tended to betray the loyalist. When Techno and the Skyblock community call Dream a "Hero", they're being genuine about it. Dream doesn't take it well because he confuses the two usages.

  • Irony: Technoblade, anarchist and hater of governments, is made an elected official of Hypixel Skyblock. Dream and Phil find this immensely amusing.

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Technoblade. He usually means well, though his gruff demeanor and intimidating size and muscle make it hard for people to see past his tough exterior.

  • Kangaroo Court: Technoblade wants to avert this with Dream. Perhaps because of his own past he believes in due process.

  • La Résistance: The rebellion against Dante.

  • Lotus-Eater Machine: The Egg. It promises anything the user wants.

  • Made of Iron: Like in canon, Technoblade, Dante, and The Egg.

  • Manipulative Bastard: Like in canon, Dream. He gets better as he spends more time unwinding and reflecting upon his past actions.

  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The server has a collective one when the sounds of Withers ring out across the night.
    • Mere moments later, The Egg triggers another one when it causes a cataclysmic earthquake that knocks out the ley lines and all long distance communication.

  • Meaningful Name: Having reflected upon the naming of Pandora's Vault, Technoblade provides the name, Hope, for the flower that Dream takes care of.

  • Money Dumb: Even by Skyblock standards Deo spends an inordinate amount of money. Jiyn and Technoblade point this out even as Deo protests the idea.

  • Morality Plant: Dream’s flower garden. He even gives them names, theming them after his former and current friends.
    • Hope the Dandelion. (Dream himself)
    • Miniblade the Poppy. (Technoblade)
    • Flowza the Oxeye Daisy. (Philza)
    • Georgie the Blue Orchid. (George)
    • Globemaster/Your Highness/Your Majesty/Your Excellency the "His Excellency" Allium. (Ranboo)
    • Chu the Pink Tulip. (Niki Nihachu)
    • Snaps/Maps/Snipsap/Snapmap/Napsap the Orange Tulip. (Sapnap)
    • Tommy the Rosebushes. (Tommy)
    • Potato the Cornflower. (SquidKid)

  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: By bringing Dream to its taproot in order to hold him hostage, the Egg essentially brings a man capable of spawning a Wither right at its weakest point. Having Bad Boy Halo bring Tommy, who also wants the Egg dead, to the taproot during Dream’s counterattack is even more egregious in this matter.

  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: The Syndicate destroy the Egg. In return, one of them is nearly cut down in the middle of Church Prime and several other server members express their desire to see them killed.

  • No Social Skills: Informed attribute of Technoblade (stemming from the real Technoblade) as he is very capable of socializing (albeit with limited numbers of people) in story.

  • Not So Harmless: Niki Nihachu. In the fic, it’s heavily implied that given enough time and training she would rival Technoblade in power and skill.

  • Once per Episode: Before every chapter a section with short incorrect quotes are used to broadly summarize the chapter's contents.

  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Niki threatening Wilbur because of her pain and anguish he inflicted upon her is a far cry from her welcoming demeanor shown throughout the series.
    • The voices growing silent and uniting in telling Techno to run for his life is one for his entire chat. It’s telling that things are dangerous when the Ax-Crazy voices stop demanding blood.

  • Outside-Context Problem: Dream is a capable player, able to single handedly terrorize dozens of others on the DreamSMP given the slightest amount of time to prepare. Unfortunately for him, Technoblade knows that the below exists:

  • Percussive Therapy: Dream, having been put into essentially another prison, doesn't take it too well. He begins doing everything he can with as much violence as he can muster. He avoids becoming Blinded by Rage however, and still listens to Technoblade's advice when it's applicable.

  • Physical God: Technoblade, Dream, and all the other members of the Skyblock Resistance. Having all donned the Armor of the Rising Sun and wielding the Staff of the Rising Sun (which scales proportionally with the number of votes received) they become practically unstoppable.

  • Plot Armor: Discussed.
    • Technoblade notes that TommyInnit has an inordinate amount of it by chapter 6, and honestly considers congratulating Dream on punching right through and sending the boy six feet under.
    • Chapter 14, featuring Tommy, is aptly named after the trope.

  • Portal Network: Nether Portals can connect to anywhere, including other servers, as they are considered separate dimensions.

  • Prisons Are Gymnasiums: Averted. The long months did their number on Dream. So much so that it's picked up by the Hypixel network as soul damage consistent with people who have undergone torture.

  • Psychic Link: Dream and Ranboo, who were once friends close enough that they linked themselves for quick communications.

  • Reasonable Authority Figure:
    • Simon Hypixel, who offers Dream a chance at redemption, as well as implicitly promises to shelter him if he is rejected.
    • Former mayor Seraphine is this, Beleaguered Bureaucrat, and Cloudcuckoolander's Minder to all of Hypixel Skyblock.
    • Eret as well, as he is one of the few members of the server who look past, the past, and suggest having a proper discussion beyond simply stabbing Dream and the Syndicate to death for their crimes.

  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: The Egg. To a lesser extent, everyone it’s corrupted.

  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Technoblade is the Red to Dream's Blue.

  • Rejected Apology: Lots of them. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that crimes of destroying an entire country won’t be forgiven easily even if the destroyer has turned over a new leaf.

  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Several given throughout the story, beginning with

  • Revenge Before Reason: Quackity, Quackity, Quackity. It takes a pretty deranged individual to partner with The Egg, just to bait out Dream and Technoblade. He doesn’t seem to realize, or care, that this partnership can only doom the server.

  • Right Behind Me: A variation of such appears in Chapter 8. Phil and Ranboo, having just finished calling Technoblade and Dream, hang up the comlink. Ranboo then notices the door is open from the wind blowing in, and turns to see an amused and disappointed Niki Nihachu framed in the doorway.

  • The Rival: Dream to Technoblade. SquidKid to Technoblade. Skeppy to Technoblade.

  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Purpled tries a variant when his daily newspaper delivery reveals Technoblade and Dream in Hypixel Skyblock.

  • Sdrawkcab Speech: The Egg speaks in this way. It’s even highlighted in red text!

  • Security Blanket: Dream’s Revival Book. Technoblade refers to the trope by name, noting that he wasn’t one to take away the last vestiges of control Dream still clung onto out of fear of loss.

  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Technoblade's reason that he can empathize with Dream's imprisonment. Despite how much he had fought, he was unable to keep himself from worrying about his friends being killed or turning against him. He brings up the idea that only after the fight is over that the brain manages to catch up and throw nightmares at you, as a sort of system that's only trying to keep you safe.

  • Shout-Out:

  • Shown Their Work: Many quirks Technoblade has are highlighted in extreme detail. Unlike most portrayals of the pigman as just an invincible force of nature, this Technoblade is also quite smart and skilled in psychology (which the real Technoblade took classes in). His smarts are wholly on display as his fighting skills take a backseat.

  • Spotting the Thread: Ranboo of all people manages to deduce that Technoblade and Philza broke Dream out of prison, confronting the latter with the evidence that Techno's Dream mask was the one used in the breakout as it is conspicuously absent from his trophy wall.

  • Squad Nickname: Fittingly for the group fighting Dante the Slime Dictator, "Team Chaos".

  • Sweet Baker: Niki Nihachu is this personified.

  • Take That!:
    • Dream’s minister perks is called “1 in 7.5 trillion” and raises looting chances.
    • Dream, when prompted with growing Beetroots, claims nobody likes them.
    • In universe, Technoblade groans when Seraphine tells him the rebellion is democratically elected and bets her that their choice sucks. Seraphine simply smiles and agrees with his assessment, before revealing that he's their top choice.

  • Technician vs. Performer: As Technoblade notes, Dream’s movements in combat have that added flourish while his own are far more calculated and direct.

  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Dream's island is barren as hell. Due to his impulsiveness, he inadvertently traps himself on the empty place with Technoblade, who quickly informs him that if they even have the slightest desire to return they'll have to work together. Hilarity ensues as the two rivals begin their long journey home, not helped in the least by how much Dream wants to turn Techno into a bacon sandwich.

  • Title Drop: Purpled, who has Hypixel Skyblock newspapers delivered, asks Finnster to look into Hypixel’s Extradition laws.

  • Too Dumb to Live: Quackity wears a business suit to the Arctic.

  • Touche: When Dream tries to get a meal out of Technoblade for every cookie he eats, Techno quickly points out that he paid for the ingredients Dream was using for baking.

  • Trauma Button: Obsidian and gleaming weaponry (especially axes) for Dream. It's a reminder of the days Quackity visited him to torture the secrets of the revival book out of him.
    • Vaults for Tommy, owing to the Final Control Room, Techno's Vault, and Pandora's Vault.

  • True Companions: The Syndicate. Overlaps with Fire-Forged Friends.

  • Tsundere: Dream, to Hope the Dandelion at first. Technoblade manages to drag him out of it immediately by asking him if he could step on it. Dream is notably horrified by the idea. Techno later uses this to tease him by claiming he'll kill the flower if Dream doesn't get up in the morning.

  • Undying Loyalty: Philza (and to a slightly lesser extent, the Syndicate) to Techno, and vice-versa.

  • Ungrateful Bastard: Quackity, Tommy, Tubbo, and most others have zero gratitude after Dream and the Syndicate killed the Egg. Justified, as 1. They can’t verify this, and 2. Dream and the Syndicate have committed horrible crimes in the past and were lying to the server members up until the very moment they appeared in Church Prime.

  • Unspoken Plan Guarantee: Technoblade’s entire plan to handle Dream’s breakout. It goes off without a hitch. Averted later on when the Syndicate tries the same thing on the Egg. Unfortunately, there are several spanners in the works this time around.

  • Unwitting Pawn: Quackity to The Egg, who plays on his fears and hatred for Technoblade and Dream.

  • Violence Really Is the Answer: Double-subverted in regards to the rebellion. Techno was all for the idea of attacking first and demanding surrender later, which Seraphine and the admins put a stop to. Then Dante sends in his goons and becomes a giant slime, refusing all negotiations.

  • Warrior Therapist: Technoblade for Dream. In fact, some of their practice duels have therapy woven into them. Due to sharing similar problems, the therapy also works for Technoblade himself. He's able to deduce Dream's problems and lure him into having practice duels, something Dream picks up on after they conclude.

  • Weaksauce Weakness: Similar to how Dante was killed in Hypixel Skyblock, the giant slime he becomes is easily slain by a random player who typed /killdante. This time however, Dream is the one to execute him, and just like the random player he did it by accident.

  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Techno believes Dream to be one, someone who's fallen off the slippery slope and ended up in prison for it. He notes that while Tommy had pointed out Dream was a Manipulative Bastard, all he himself saw was a very tired, very misguided soul.

  • We Used to Be Friends: Dream and the rest of the Dream Team. He reflects on it, noting that Sapnap had promised he would kill Dream should he escape. This becomes more painful when he recognizes that despite everything that had happened, when it came down to it he wouldn't kill Sapnap even to save his own life.

  • Who Dares?: "I’m sorry, and who exactly are you?". Said by Dante to Dream.

  • The Worf Effect: Anyone who manages to give Technoblade a hard time poses significant danger to the protagonists.

    With Great Power

With Great Power provides examples of:

  • Accomplice by Inaction: Seraphine initially believes Simon to be doing this about Dante.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Technoblade nicknames the Armor of the Rising Sun "Clout Armor", which Seraphine begrudgingly smiles at while noting Simon would get a kick out of it.

  • Arc Welding:
    • The reason why the /killdante command exists? Simon put it in place as a failsafe in case Dante managed to usurp Seraphine's role by parasiting off of her magic.
    • How does Simon know Dream was responsible for the command usage? Seraphine immediately grabbed his soul from the remnants of the command execution, then passed the info onto Simon when it apologized profusely.
    • How does Purpled get the information about an Extradition? Seraphine is passed the inquiry by Mayor Faith, who had received it after it had been sent up a very long chain of command.

  • The Cameo:
    • Vanessa, Seymour, Jacob, Elizabeth, Sirius, Winona, Marco, Taylor, Dusk, and Rosetta who are NPCs from the Birch Park, Fashion Shop, Village, Community Center, Dark Auction, Catacombs, Flower Shop, Fashion Shop, Blacksmith, and Armory respectively. They're Seraphine's friends and voices of counsel.
    • Refraction (the YouTuber) makes a small cameo as the one the NPCs vote as best dressed at the Rebellion afterparty.
    • Former Mayor Faith also makes an appearance, if only to foist off work onto Seraphine.

  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Seraphine is one, being less than trusting towards everyone around her apart from Simon.

  • Doomed by Canon: Dante is destined to be struck down by the force of the Skyblock Resistance (and /killdante).

  • Everyone Has Standards: Seraphine bluntly notes that even if Dream was or is a bad guy, he doesn't deserve to have soul-shatteringly damaging torture inflicted upon them.

  • Genki Girl: Seraphine's own magic is one.

  • Genius Bonus: 4114205, the tag of the magical Parasite, is "Dante" run through an Alphabet Cipher.

  • God Is Neutral: Or rather, the Admins are. Seraphine does ask Simon about what he wants to do about Technoblade and Dream being stuck on their island, to which Simon simply comments his amusement to the result before telling her that they're responsible for getting out of their own mess.

  • The Heart: Seraphine's magic and her existence serves as the Boat to rescue those needing aid around her. Together with Simon they serve as the lighthouse and boat combo.

  • Instant Runes: The /killdante command, to the Admins, is a runic command. This means that anyone can execute it.

  • I Warned You: Simon promises that if his decisions go wrong, Seraphine is welcome to tell him this. The latter is more than happy to accept this deal.

  • Little Miss Snarker: Seraphine fits the bill, given the actual age of Skyblock. Much of her commentary involves snarking at the people around her which bounces off Dream and Technoblade really well. Simon acknowledges and respects such.

  • The Maker: Simon Hypixel is this and Ultimate Blacksmith according to Seraphine's read of his soul.

  • My Country, Right or Wrong: Seraphine is this to Skyblock, her home. Regardless of what her own personal desires are she will do her duty which she reminds Simon.

  • Not So Above It All: Both Simon and Seraphine both have their moments when they break character, usually due to some form of shenanigans.

  • Number Two: Simon tells Seraphine that she is this to him. Someone to argue with him in a constructive way.

  • Plucky Girl: Seraphine is one, and with the amount of crap that goes her way it's hard not to notice it.

  • Power Incontinence: Seraphine is struck by such right as she is exiled from her post by Dante. Much of her story revolves around her perceived weakness and inability to be morally correct. The truth is far more sinister. As Simon Hypixel himself discovers, Dante had attached himself parasitically off of her magical connection in a downplayed form of the Puppeteer Parasite.

  • Rewatch Bonus: Pay very close attention to the colors in the story. The command line commands that Seraphine tries and fails to execute are a deep green. Seraphine herself is mostly blue with no shades of green. However, there is someone else who ''is'' green and parasitizing off of her magical connection.

  • Saved by Canon: Seraphine is going to survive no worse for the wear because of the events of the Skyblock Resistance Movement and Uprising.

  • Side Bet: As the story concludes, Simon turns to Seraphine and simply states that he gives them a month before returning from the DreamSMP.

  • Soul Power: Seraphine is able to handle the souls of dead players and administration of their respawning, including recognizing lingering injuries death itself does not cure.
    • Technoblade's soul is icy blue, with grand contradictions; Cold with the Heat of battle, full of a quiet humming like lonely winds upon a tundra, chorusing with the ringing of carillons for good or ill, and gave off a sacred uniqueness. While it fought tooth and nail for what it believed to be right, it also gave a welcoming feeling of home.
    • Dream's soul is damaged. It's heavily implied that the injuries inflicted upon him by Quackity in Pandora's Vault is responsible. Beneath the damage lies a green soul, illustrative of song of nature - the good, bad, and in-between. Moreover, his soul itself is The Atoner.
    • Simon Hypixel's soul is a strange and vast place of ochre light. It sparkled like the stars and was dense like one too, powerful, bright, and able to fill a room with its burning radiance. Any dealings with his Magic also always left the taste of metal in the mouth, most notably of keys and coins.
    • Averted with Seraphine herself and the NPCs, who don't have souls. What they are, is pure Magic.

  • Terrible Pick-Up Lines: "So... You come here often?" Said by Technoblade, to Seraphine. And no, he was not trying to pick up Seraphine.

  • Troll: Simon is this, to basically everybody. The reason why he appears ominously to Dream following the Uprising? According to Seraphine, that's what he's like when he's bored. He does the "mysterious ominous man" thing just to mess with people.
