Zodiac

The main characters of the comic. They are a bunch of superheroes recruited by New Dawn. As their team name suggests, their code names are all based on their zodiac signs.

     In General

In General

  • Action Girl: The female members are as capable of kicking ass as the male members.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Even the nicest members of the team are capable of laying down a world of hurt on their opponents.
  • Elemental Motifs: The twelve superheroes are split into four teams of three members. Leo himself notices that it doesn't make sense.
    • Team Fire is made of Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.
    • Team Earth is made of Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.
    • Team Air is made of Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.
    • Team Water is made of Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.
  • Experienced Protagonist: Half of the team already has experience such as Gemini, Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Aquarius, and Pisces. This gives a lot of contrast with the other half of the team that is just made of first starters.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: The team has six males (Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Libra, and Pisces) and six females (Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Aquarius).
  • Good Is Not Nice: Cancer is bratty, Leo and Pisces are stern, Gemini was a vigilante, Sagittarius hides secrets, and Scorpio was a thief. It doesn't stop them from fighting the good fight when the chance comes.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Even the nicest members of the team can put the hurt on their foes when the situation demands it.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Gemini in his main personality is abrasive, Cancer is bratty, Leo is too serious, Scorpio is a former criminal, Sagittarius keeps secrets, and Pisces is complicated.
  • New Meat: Half of the team (Aries, Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Libra, and Capricorn) has no field experience. Whereas the other half did some crime fighting (or theft in Scorpio's case) before joining Zodiac.
  • Nice Guy/Nice Girl: Aries, Taurus, Gemini in his good personality, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn, and Aquarius are quite personal, contrasting their teammates who fit into the Jerk with a Heart of Gold territory.
  • Thou Shall Not Kill: Discussed by Ramas, who tells them to avoid killing, but recognizes the need for it if the circumstances are extreme. Fittingly enough, Virgo kills Hell Hound by accident during the bar fight.

     Aries

Aries/Kelly Holbrook

Born as Kelly Holbrook, Aries developed his powers during adolescence. He used to be a pro-wrestler before joining Zodiac.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Slaver brainwashes him during the fight at the club, forcing him to fight Gemini until he gets Slaver's hook off him.
  • Determinator: Despite Taurus stomping him, Aries refuses to fall down. He eventually fights back against Saurus, breaking his foot and preparing to keep fighting.
  • The Heart: Easily one of the most heroic members of the team. Leo even directly acknowledges that he's the heart of the team because of his morals.
  • Love at First Sight: Develops a romantic interest in Taurus upon seeing her.
  • Mundane Utility: He attempted to use his powers for demolition in the past, but the government wouldn't let him, declaring it wouldn't be fair to non-supers.
  • Spit Take: He spits his drink when he meets Scorpio since she teleported out of nowhere. It's even Lampshaded by Scorpio, who loves causing that reaction.
  • Super-Strength: Easily the strongest member of Zodiac, capable of breaking through walls.
  • Super-Toughness: Gemini can't hurt him despite being able to defeat professional heroes on his own with one blow each. And Saurus keeps pummeling him to no avail.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: After being brainwashed by Slaver, he fights with brute strength against Gemini, the local martial artist of the team, who just dodges his attacks. However, Gemini cannot hurt him since Aries has Super-Toughness that makes his attacks useless.
  • Use Your Head: His strongest attack is to rush at full speed to strike his opponents with his head.
  • We Used to Be Friends: With Saurus, as they fought each other once Aries becomes a hero and Saurus a villain.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: He used to be a wrestler in the past, and it's evident in his fighting style.

     Taurus

Taurus/Janine Weiss

Janine Weiss was an unattractive cow who worked for New Dawn for five years as an assistant to an executive. One day, she was in the middle of an industrial accident that made her attractive and gave her superpowers. Feeling a burst of confidence from her new looks and powers, Janine became Taurus to have as much fun as she can.

  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Nightmare gives her a beating during the bar fight, making sure to torture Taurus.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Taurus likes to act ditzy to mess with others. She's actually smarter than she looks.
  • Pervert Revenge Mode: Subverted when talking with Cancer and Libra. Though she did threaten them for wanting to do something perverted with her, it was more of a playful warning and she was flattered. The only times she engages in this was when a guy was too direct with her at the club and she slapped him out cold, making her feel guilty and when she accidentally injured a man at her old company who was a little too forward.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: She has the powers of a Flying Brick, but is a complete novice in using her powers and dealing with actually dangerous situations.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: Stores a picture of her former self in the middle of her breasts. Aries and Sagittarius are impressed.

     Gemini

Gemini/Pete

Pete is a vigilante that saved Sagittarius years ago. As time passed, he and Sagittarius fell in love. However, Sagittarius disappeared one day, causing Pete to look for her. His search took him to an audition to become Gemini. After beating up the other candidates, Pete took on the role of Gemini. Now that he's officially a Zodiac member, Gemini is trying to find answers from Sagittarius.

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Fights only using martial arts in comparison to the powers and weapons of his teammates.
  • Blood Knight: He loves a good fight, mainly because he gets to release his aggression.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Gemini is easily able to defeat superheroes with one blow each just because he's that good at martial arts. He can even injure a giant dinosaur with a kick to the groin despite Whisper, a fellow martial artist, needing to use her psychic powers to defeat a dinosaur as well. His Gemini Maneuver has him move and attack so fast that it looks like two of him are attacking at the same time.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He won the right to be Gemini by defeating three superheroes in record time, at least two of them being knocked out in one blow at nearly the same time.

  • Enhanced Punch: By focusing her psychic aura in her hands and paws, Whisper increases the power of her punches and kicks. This allows her to fight against enhanced opponents, like a triceratops.
  • Fights Like a Normal: Whisper is a powerful psychic. However, she prefers to use her martial arts when fighting. She only uses her powers if the foe is too tough to defeat with her martial prowess.
  • Finishing Move: The Morning Lotus Strike. Whisper summons all of the psychic energy that she has in her body and performs a jumping spin kick to the face of her opponent. The enhanced kick is capable of knocking out a tooth and break the horn of the triceratops she was fighting despite his resilience. And that's not counting the burst of psychic energy released from her paw that blasted his face afterwards.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She has Jenna crush her body so that Specter, who was possessing her body, could die.
  • Holding Your Shoulder Means Injury: The aftermath of her fight with the triceratops has her hold her arm. It is shown in the extended pages that the triceratops punched her arm hard enough to injure it. This forces Whisper to use her Morning Lotus Strike to end the fight.
  • Hurricane Kick: Her Morning Lotus Strike is a jumping spin kick with high damage potential. And that's not counting the layer of psychic power that increases the damage of the kick.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: She is a psychic, but her main method of attack is using martial arts. She can even use both when facing truly powerful opponents.
  • Leg Focus: Her skirt shows a lot of her muscular legs.
  • Martial Arts Staff: She wields one in her reference sheet, but never used it on the comic.
  • Mysterious Past: Not even her reference sheet explains about her past. All that is known is that she's been defending Omega City for years and she is a friend of Aquarius during her tenure as Tempest.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: She fights a triceratops in a flashback scene. The viewer is not shown the fight, but Whisper has a broken arm, the triceratops is missing a tooth, and there's a hole in the wall.
    • Averted years later when some pages are added to the story describing the fight.
  • Pstandard Psychic Pstance: She puts a hand against her temple when she uses her psychic powers to destroy Specter's lab, she also does the same when she charges her powers when she's about to use the Morning Lotus Strike.
  • Panthera Awesome: A snow leopardess superhero who knows martial arts and is a powerful psychic.
  • Thou Shall Not Kill: Subverted, since Whisper voices her disapproval of taking a life but recognizes the necessity when dealing with an evil criminal like Specter.
  • Tranquil Fury: She normally snarls or growls when she fights. However, her expression is a mixture of inner peace and confidence when she uses the Morning Lotus Strike to land a face-shattering kick to her foes.

  • Abusive Parents: Jerry's father was controlling, forcing Jerry to become a police officer against his will. Not only that, but he gave Jerry his powers despite Jerry refusing him. Most of Jerry's problems are a result of his father's controlling abuse.

Bi-Polar/ Heidi Beatrix

A polar bear with the ability to create a copy of herself since birth. She auditioned for the role of Gemini, but she was defeated by the rabbit who claimed the title.

  • I Work Alone: Her Fatal Flaw is that she doesn't like to ask for help, preferring to rely on herself and her duplicate.
  • Self-Duplication: She can create a copy of herself.

     Quetzalcoatlus

Quetzalcoatlus/Jenna Martinez

Jenna used to be a snake teenager until the day she was captured by Specter. She was subjected to a DNA modification that turned her into a dinosaur. Specter intended to possess her since her body was powerful and her mental waves matched Specter's psychic waves. Before Specter could possess her, Jenna was rescued by Whisper.

Jenna and Whisper relied on Zodiac to defeat Specter. Tragically, Whisper lost her life in the conflict, and Jenna was forced to take her place as protector of Omega City.

  • Full-Frontal Assault: Her first appearance is in her dinosaur form. Though her body is obscured, she is naked, much to Libra's delight. She only gets clothes when Taurus improvises with Capricorn's cape to protect her decency.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She was initially hostile to Capricorn because she was jealous of her ability to control her powers and therefore her appearance.
  • Kid Hero: She's sixteen and acts as Whisper's replacement as Omega City's defender.
