Orihime Inoue
Orihime Inoue
A beautiful young girl who gets trapped in the world of FMA. She might be a little odd and airheaded at times, but she has a heart made of gold. Her compassion knows no bounds helping anyone in need be it friend or foe. She encounters the Elric brothers and there her journey through Amestris begins.- Actual Pacifist: Orihime is so gentle at her core that she would never willingly do harm to another person. But that doesn't make her a pushover, and she has no problems defending herself if need be.
Orihime: "You can call it however you like it. My advice is, if you don't want that to happen again... Then don't attack me when I specifically told you not to!"
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Despite being a happy go lucky individual, Orihime's experiences in Hueco Mundo still haunts her. She is a lot more guilt ridden and has very low self esteem about herself compared to her canon counterpart. Justified as this story takes place in the midst of the Time Skip of Bleach, so she never had the chance to fully recover from her trauma.
- All-Loving Heroine: Her most defining trait. Edward and Reo have both fallen in love with her because of her kind hearted nature and strong compassion towards others.
- Almost Kiss: Almost kisses Edward in Chapter 32. Actually, she was just taking in his scent, unfortunately for Ed.
- Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Orihime tends to get distracted sometimes, mainly when it comes to food.
- Befriending the Enemy: Chapter 22. Orihime attempts this with Scar in hopes to take his mind off revenge. It doesn't work, but does leave him to contemplate his actions.
- Beneath the Mask:
- Despite her bubbly, cheerful, optimistic, and ditzy demeanor, Orihime is a Stepford Smiler with massive self-esteem issues and a Guilt Complex underneath it all. She just hides really well.
- Eria is, technically, the partial manifestation of Orihime's hidden anguish, doubts, and love for Ichigo.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Orihime is a kind and sweet girl. However, she isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes is right as a military general learned the hard way. Not to mention that she hates people who toys with other's emotions. Understandably, as she went through a similar experience.
- Beyond the Impossible: What Edward sprouts in disbelief when she saves Nina.
- Big Eater: Just as much as Edward, if not more.
- Blatant Lies: The excuses Orihime gives Edward and Alphonse when she goes off Hollow hunting. She's such a Bad Liar even they don't buy it sometimes. Most of the time, it's because she hesitates when trying to come up with a believable excuse.
- Broken Tears: Chapters 23 and 24. Orihime becomes a emotional wreck once she believes Ichigo might be dead.
- Bunny-Ears Lawyer: A resident Cloud Cuckoo Lander who is strangely insightful and perceptive of other people's moods and feelings and an excellent healer.
- Cassandra Truth: Averted. The reason why she doesn't tell Ed and Al about her Hollow hunting because she knows they probably won't believe her.
- Chaste Heroine: Partly because of her status as Clueless Dude Magnet and partly because Ichigo is the only she has eyes for.
- Chronic Hero Syndrome: She doesn't hesitate to help a person in need.
- Cloud Cuckoo Lander: In spades.
- Clueless Dude Magnet: She doesn't know why guys give her so much attention.
- Cool Big Sis: Becomes this for Nina.
- Cordon Bleugh Chef: Unlike most examples, Orihime is a pretty damn good cook, even if her combinations of food are questionable. Ed really enjoys her cooking, and Al has stated once or twice to looking forward to finally eating her meals once he gets his body back. This makes a her a rare mixture of Supreme Chef and this trope.
- Covert Pervert: Orihime in Chapter 34. She insists that she wasn't staring at a half-naked Ed when he was just in his boxers. Granted, she didn't know he was forcibly stripped of his clothes by automail mechanics wanting to see his automail. The sight of it most likely shocked her to the core because it was so unexpected. She even lampshades it was the first time she saw a boy in his underwear, and that he surprisingly has a very well built and muscular body.Orihime: [shyly] I wasn't staring. I'm not a pervert. I'm not.
- Crash-Into Hello: How she meets Ed and Al.
- D-Cup Distress: Surprisingly, Orihime often gets embarrassed over her large bust size.
- Damsel in Distress:
- This is what Orihime appears to be from her friends' perspective. It technically isn't a lie; she is just not in as much danger as they think.
- Played straight. Orihime has been captured by numerous villains for various reasons.
- Damsel out of Distress: More often than not, she somehow manages to save herself.
- Easily Impressed: In the beginning, Orihime is easily amazed at the displays of alchemy.
- Even the Girls Want Her: Now girls seem attracted to her, thanks to her modeling.
- Everyone Loves Blondes: Edward, who has blonde/golden hair, is Orihime's second love interest. This is a stark contrast to Ichigo, who has orange hair.
- Feminine Women Can Cook: She is the Team Chef of the group.
- First Kiss: Has hers with Ed. Which leads to...
- First Love: Ichigo.
- Flower Motif: Her Shun Shun Rikka, of course. Not to mention she likes wearing floral pattern clothing.
- Genki Girl: When it comes to food. Either eating it or coming up with new recipes.
- Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: Orihime is a sensitive and caring girl with Barrier Warrior powers and, suprisingly, boyish interests such as boys comics, sci-fi, and robots. She even knows martial arts, which she used to beat Ed and Al in a sparing match.
- Has a Type: An odd example. Winry is left wondering if Orihime has a type after she eagerly describes Ichigo's personality, which is uncannily similar to Ed's, except for a few minor flaws/differences here and there. Does she have a thing for hot tempered, impatient and reckless, brash Jerks With Hearts Of Gold who hide their kind and caring nature under a facade and both also happened to lose their mothers at a young age, which resulted in both of them feeling guilty over their moms' deaths and losing a bit of their optimism? Plus, they have younger siblings, whom they are very protective of. Coincidence? Yeah, it's easy to see why Winry thinks Orihime has a type. Although, Orihime only has eyes for Ichigo. She doesn't even think about Ed in that way. Or does she?
- Hate at First Sight: It's more like "You make me uncomfortable at first sight." Orihime has this reaction when she meets Fuhrer King Bradley. Justified, since Orihime could sense spirit energy, she could feel that Bradley's spirit energy is almost the same as Lust and Gluttony.
- The Heart: Orihime tends to be the emotional/moral support of the group.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: Becomes this with Winry.
- Heroic Self-Deprecation: At first glance it's hard to tell, but later on it eventually becomes apparent that Orihime doesn't think very highly of herself and has some serious self esteem issues all wrapped up along with being an Insecure Love Interest for Ichigo, and has a massive Guilt Complex over his near death
- Hidden Heart of Gold: Winry believes Orihime has an infatuation for these types of men. Just add Big Brother Instinct into the mix for added flavor/appeal.
- If It's You, It's Okay: Orihime would always be Ichigo-sexual, but Edward is starting to warm his way into her heart.
- Implausible Hair Color: Orihime's auburn/red hair makes her stand out among the blonde, black, and brown haired citizens of Amestris.
- Innocently Insensitive: Doesn't realize that her devotion to Ichigo hurts Edward's feelings.
- Light Feminine Dark Feminine: The Light Feminine to Eria's Dark Feminine. This is a special case as Eria IS Orihime. Just a bitter and resentful version of her.
- Like Parent, Like Spouse: Edward has a massive crush on Orihime who is similar to his mother in many ways. Both women are kind, caring, and warm individuals. Al even lampshades that Orihime reminds him of Trisha at times.
- Living Emotional Crutch: It becomes obvious that Ichigo is this for Orihime.
- Love Interest: For Ed.
- Love Triangle: Orihime is involved in two of them.
- Orihime, Ichigo, and Edward. This a variation of a Muggle and Magical Love Triangle due to the nature of Ed being a human and Ichigo as a Heinz Hybrid.
- Orihime, Ichigo, and Eria.
- Lust Object: Becomes one for Morgan.
- The Medic: Thanks to her Soten Kisshun.
- Oblivious to Love: Orihime doesn't notice Edward's growing feelings for her. She eventually becomes oblivious of her own feelings towards Ed, once stating she has a desperate desire to see him but doesn't know why.
- Opposites Attract: With Ed. Interesting because she's both this and Birds of a Feather with him.
- Plucky Girl: A cheerful and spunky girl with an optimistic determination in the face of adversity. This contrasts with Edward's Determinator status.
- The Promise: In Chapter 29, Orihime promises to stay by Edward's side until they get their bodies back. It's one of the most heartwarming moments between them.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni:
- The Blue to Ed's Red.
- The Blue to Winry's Red.
- The Red to Al's Blue.
- The Red to Eria's Blue. That is what appears at first glance, but if you look underneath the surface level, Orihime is actually the Blue to Eria's Red.
- Sacred First Kiss: Orihime has a My God, What Have I Done? moment when she realizes that she shared her first kiss with Edward instead of Ichigo, believing it to be a betrayal of her feelings for the latter.
- Secret Diary: She has one. Everything she likes, dislikes, her experiences, and her daily journal is all written in there. Good thing it's written in a different language when an impatient and aggravated Ed tries to take a peek.
- Sick Episode: Develops a flu in Chapters 31 and 32.
- Single-Target Sexuality: Sorry, guys. Orihime would only ever have eyes for Ichigo.
- Ship Tease: Has plenty of these with Ed.
- Stepford Smiler: A Type 1. Underneath her cheerful and happy disposition, Orihime has some massive self esteem issues and some pent up guilt over what happened during her time in Hueco Mundo.

- Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Girly Girl to Winry’s Tomboy.
- Unresolved Sexual Tension: With Edward.
- Warts and All:
- Ichigo to Orihime. She basically describes him as a lovable delinquent.
- Edward, too, in a less romantic sense. Unfortunately, for him.
- Will They or Won't They?: With Ed.
- World's Most Beautiful Woman: Orihime is declared the most beautiful woman in Amestris after she models for a fashion magazine.
- Yamato Nadeshiko: As surprising as it sounds, Orihime has shown some traits of this. She is a kindhearted and sweet tempered girl. She cooks, sews , and she's very devoted to her friends, even offering them emotional support, such as when she gently helps Alphonse confront his existential crisis. But when push comes to shove, she isn't afraid to fight back in her own way.
Edward Elric
Edward Elric
A prodigious young alchemist. He became a state alchemist at the age of 12, earning him the title of Fullmetal Alchemist. He travels around the country with his younger brother, Al, to try to find a way to get their bodies back. When he first meets Orihime he finds her kind of annoying and wasn't all that thrilled to have her tag along. But he soon warms up to the idea, and eventually starts to grow feelings for her.- Accidental Pervert: Thanks to Orihime's Crash-Into Hello, Ed is meet with Orihime's boobs in his face.
- Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Ed has developed a habit of tenderly rubbing Orihime's head.
- Alliterative Name: His full name is Edward Elric.
- Almost Kiss: Orihime almost kisses him in Chapter 32. Unfortunately for him, it turns out to be a I Didn't Mean to Turn You on moment.
- Anger Born of Worry: Edward tends to get understandably anger when Orihime goes of Hollow hunting. It's heavily implied it's because he's worried about her wellbeing and keeping him in the dark just makes it worse.

- Big Little Brother: Al's older brother and the shorter of the two.
- Braids of Action: Gender inverted. Ed normally wears his long hair in a single braid, but he's one badass alchemist.
- Bratty Half-Pint: Comes across as this sometimes. Just don't call him short.
- Break the Cutie: Edward goes through a heartbreakingly massive emotional breakdown about his placement in the Love Triangle with Orihime and Ichigo during which a female villain tries to take advantage of by attacking his insecurities and coldly manipulating his Hopeless Suitor status about his one-sided crush on Orihime. To great relief, Ed manages a Heroic Second Wind that snaps him out his funk and he delivers a passionately epic Shut Up, Hannibal! speech.
- Bunny-Ears Lawyer: A brilliant alchemist with a Hair-Trigger Temper that would fly off in a fit of rage whenever someone calls him short.
- Cannot Spit It Out: He just can't tell Orihime he's in love with her.
- Celibate Hero: Ed is more interested in returning Al back to normal than even thinking about getting into a relationship. Subverted in that he has a massive crush on Orihime. Perhaps, it's partially his guilt and self-obligation to Al that's keeping him from confessing. And other factors...
- Child Prodigy: He did become a state alchemist at the age of 12.
- Crazy Jealous Guy: Ed does not like it when guys try to flirt with Orihime. It becomes just as much of a Berserk Button for him as being called short.
- Curtains Match the Window: Gold eyes and hair.
- Deadpan Snarker: Ed tends to snark at Orihime's Cloud Cuckoo Lander tendencies. At least, at first. Now he finds it quite endearing. That doesn't mean he avoids snarking at other people.
- Declaration of Protection: Chapter 15. After they survive their run in with Scar, Edward vows to Orihime that he would be the one doing the protecting from now on in his usual aggressive and flustered way.
( Edward to Orihime): "I'm not the one who's going to be protected by you, okay? From now, you'd be protected by me! No excuses! Got it?"

- Deuteragonist: Orihime is the protagonist, but the story is about his and Al's journey to regain their bodies.

- Embarrassing Nickname: Orihime calls him "Eddie" due to feeling uncomfortable calling him "Ed". Of course, Ed is initially put off by the nickname, but drops it once he sees how happy she is. Over time, it becomes more or less an Affectionate Nickname.
- Everyone Can See It: Most people take notice of the fact that Ed has a crush on Orihime. He's not very good at hiding it, is he?
- First Kiss: Has his with Orihime. Unfortunately, this leads to Orihime rejecting him immediately afterwards when she realizes with great horror what she's done. Edward becomes devastatingly heartbroken and crushed after the rejection. Other characters even comment that he's not himself. In the end, Ed bitterly laments that he should have never kissed her because his heart wouldn't be in such a broken mess if he hadn't.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Starts to feel this towards Ichigo, who he is in a Love Triangle with when he discovers Orihime has feelings for him.

- Hopeless Suitor: Becomes this once he realizes Orihime is in love with Ichigo.
- Insecure Love Interest: When it comes to Ichigo, Ed feels that he just can't compare when vying for Orihime's affections.
- It's heavily implied that another part of the reason he remains so in denial about his feelings for Orihime is because he feels incredibly insecure around her.
- A Monster of the Week villainess even tries to exploit this to make him do a Face–Heel Turn. Fortunately, it doesn't work.
- It's heavily implied that another part of the reason he remains so in denial about his feelings for Orihime is because he feels incredibly insecure around her.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: What defines him. Ed may be rude, arrogant, and an overall jerk, but he's generally a nice guy.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Edward continues to remain unaware of the supernatural world. And Orihime is determined to keep it that way.
- Deconstructed: He is so unaware of what's going on, most of the time, he always end up badly injured. Edward is understandably angry when Orihime refuses to tell him anything regarding what happened. It makes you wonder why she won't just tell he. Then you realize it would be pointless because he can't see them anyway. So if she were to tell him and try to explain herself, she would probably come off as being delusional. As Ed quoted once: He doesn't believe in anything he can't see.
- Longing Look: Gives these to Orihime on occasions, which leads to much teasing on his part when he's caught.
- Love Hurts: Edward undergoes so much emotional anguish and pain due to that fact that Orihime is in love with Ichigo. This all culminates in Chapter 40 where Orihime rejects him and he experiences his first heartbreak. Even everyone comments that Ed looks crushed and defeated after the rejection.

- She's Not My Girlfriend: Spouts this when people accuse him of having feelings for Orihime all while sporting a Luminescent Blush.
- Ship Tease: Has plenty of these with Orihime.
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Gender inverted example. Over the course of the story, Edward slowly starts grow feelings for Orihime due to her kind and gentle nature. Bonus points in that she's the only one, besides Al, who has enough patience to deal with his hotheaded and brash demeanor. Not even Winry has that kind of tolerance. Unsurprisingly, in a typical Ed fashion, he either remains oblivious or in denial of his newfound feelings toward her. But Edward does get a little bit jealous when other guys try to get too close to Orihime. However, Orihime remains ignorant of Ed's growing affections towards her. Plus, she's a damn good chef as Ed repeatedly points out.
- Technical Pacifist: Ed has no qualms about using violence and beating people to a bloody pulp, but he would never kill them.
- Through His Stomach: Tastes Like Friendship is what won Ed over to start warming up to Orihime. Edward adores her cooking so much that he lampshades that he can never imagine not eating one of her meals at least once a day, a fact that Orihime takes to heart, especially after he encourages her to live out her dream of opening a bakery or running a small diner when she was unsure because everyone else always discouraged her from it in fear of her bizarre food creations. Orihime loves cooking for him just to see that happy expression on his face.
- Took a Level in Cheerfulness: Thanks to Orihime's influence, Edward seems to enjoy the simple pleasures of life more than he did before.
- Tsundere: Edward shows some tsundere-like traits, mostly in regards to his feelings toward Orihime. He's a Type A. Interesting in that he rarely yells at her, but at the people who assume that he's attracted to her.
- Unknown Rival: He didn't know at first that Ichigo was his rival in love when it came to Orihime's affections.
- Unresolved Sexual Tension: With Orihime.
- What Is This Feeling?: For quite a long time, Edward couldn't understand why he feels so incredibly hurt and angry whenever Orihime thinks about Ichigo. Why her love for him causes him great pain and anguish. Thanks to the manipulations of Amelia, he was able to discern the emotion he was feeling was...jealousy.
- Will They or Won't They?: With Orihime.
- You Remind Me of X: Orihime often draws parallels between Edward and Ichigo because of their similar personalities.

- Badass Bookworm: Al may not being as natural talented in alchemy as Ed, but he is the more physically stronger of the two.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Just because he's a friendly, considerate, and level headed giant suit of armor doesn't mean he won't kick someone's ass when they threaten his loved ones.
- Gentle Giant: Alphonse is an animated suit of armor. But don't let his appearance scare you, he's actually really kind and sweet.
- Kindhearted Cat Lover: In spades. Actually becomes a plot point later on when Al picks up a stray cat that is really a soul of a young boy trapped in a cat's body. Unsurprisingly by this point, both him and Ed are unaware, but Orihime is quick to notice and insists the cat stays with them. At least, until she's able to help the spirit of the boy rest in peace.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Read Ed's entry.
- Only Sane Man: Between Orihime's Cloud Cuckoo Lander tendecies, Ed's short fuse, and Winry's obsession with automail, Al seems to be the most normal person among the group. Well, most of the time anyway. This is ironic considering he's just a suit of armor.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to Ed's Red, and, to a lesser extent, Orihime's.
- Shipper on Deck: Supports Edward/Orihime. He even teases Ed for his crush on Orihime.
- Technical Pacifist: Al may be gentler than his brother, Ed, but even he resorts to violence sometimes. Though, he shares the same Thou Shall Not Kill policy as his brother.
- Tritagonist: The third main character of the story after Orihime and Edward.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Chapter 15. Alphonse furiously yells and hits Edward, calling him out on his jerkass behaviour towards Orihime and making her cry after the girl just saved Nina's life. Edward realizes how much of ungrateful bastard he is and goes to apologize to Orihime. Only to run into Scar.
