Other Prehistoric Park Staff

While Drew and the rest of the rescue team are busy in the past rescuing animals for the park (and even when Drew and the rest of the rescue team are present at the park for that matter), these capable people work to ensure the park stays running smoothly.

    General

The staff of the titular park.

Keepers

     Kyle Taymor
An African British zookeeper with a history of keeper duty at multiple accredited zoos, and the head keeper of Prehistoric Park. Naturally in charge of cleaning, feeding, and similarly taking care of the resident animals, as well as in overseeing construction of the exhibits/enclosures.
  • Actor Allusion: He's pretty much every Idris Elba character as a head zookeeper.
  • Awesome, Dear Boy: The opportunity to be amongst the first to care for an entire new class of animals (namely, extinct ones from prehistoric times) proves a key motivator in him accepting Theodore's offer to be head keeper at Prehistoric Park.
  • Boring, but Practical: Understands the appeal of 'starting small' very well. Naturally, this leads to him undergoing headaches whenever the rescue team allows larger and more dangerous animals to be amongst the first animals brought back during missions instead of saving them for later.
  • Butt-Monkey: The events that unfold at the park can at times lead to more than a few headaches and long days for him.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Is no less capable of snarkery than anyone else at the park.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Undergoes one of these (complete with a sudden burst into laughter) during Devils of the Deep when he successfully connects the dots and realizes that the dimetrodon are starting to act somewhat more aggressive than usual as a result of being in the midst of their mating season behaviors.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Can occasionally fall victim to this. Most notably, his failure to consider the possibility of compsognathus being capable of swimming resulted in him unwittingly approving an exhibit design that allowed the little dinosaurs the opportunity to escape.
  • Graceful Loser: As much as he doesn't enjoy doing so, he owns up to his responsibility for the exhibit design oversight that ended up allowing the compsognathus the ability to escape their exhibit when Nikolai points out his hope that Kyle will take the lesson to heart.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Is shown in Devils of the Deep to have formed a small bond with Rommel the dimetrodon.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: An acknowledged case. After Nikolai expresses irritation at the tone Kyle ends up taking in his responses to him during a brief disagreement in South of Heaven, Kyle's response is, in the exact same offending tone, "Takes one to know one."
  • Jumped at the Call: Upon being offered the head keeper position at Prehistoric Park.
  • Nice Guy: He can be firm, but he's not unkind (unless he's interacting with people he doesn't like very much).
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Sees no problem in the current system set up for how the park and rescue missions work.
  • Shipper on Deck: He somewhat proves a reasonable form of this in regards to Rommel and Otrera the dimetrodon.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Initially has trouble getting along with Nikolai due to considering him a little too paranoid about the possibility of potential threats amongst the animals rescued. This doesn't stop him though from agreeing with Nikolai on a 'special plan' for security though. As of the Phase 1 finale though, they've both managed to grow out of this.
  • Token Minority: The only nonwhite member of the four heads of staff, although thankfully not amongst the entirety of the park's staff as a whole.

    Cassandra 'Cass' Cheng
One of the ornithischian keepers at Prehistoric Park. Of Vietnamese descent.
  • Abusive Parents: Her parents did very little (if anything) to discourage the divide that ensued between her and her older sister Tina. In fact, they often openly encouraged them into going against each other and seemed to almost always favor Tina.
  • Actor Allusion: Once again, Kelly Marie Tran plays a character with an older sibling she's in some way considered 2nd fiddle to. Likewise, this same character also forms a close friendship with a character (this time hypothetically) portrayed by John Boyega.
  • Always Someone Better: Is often compared rather unfavorably to Tina.
  • Asian and Nerdy: Is of Vietnamese descent and is at least intellectually competent enough to work as a keeper at Prehistoric Park.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Despite their current troubled sibling dynamics, Cass still loves Tina, wants them both to be happy working at Prehistoric Park, and hopes for them to someday have a much more improved relationship between them.
  • Big Sister Bully: Her older sister Tina is implied to have been an emotional variant of this.
  • Birds of a Feather: Heavily implied to have bonded with and befriended Horace over how they both work with animals that several other keeper divisions consider 'boring and easy'.
  • Canon Foreigner: Is first introduced in Prehistoric Park Reimagined without having ever appeared in Prehistoric Earth.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: An unfortunate victim of this by virtue of how her and Tina's parents are firm followers of familial traditions as they are practiced in their ancestral homeland of Vietnam.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Has developed a bit of a bond with Einstein the pachycephalosaurus, although this doesn't stop her from getting annoyed whenever he tries to steal and eat her apples (and especially so if he succeeds). She has also developed a similar close bond with Theo the triceratops.
  • No-Respect Guy: As far as Horace is aware, the fact that she is an ornithischian specialist (a keeper division with very similar work as that done by the hoofstock specialists) is enough for her to qualify as this amongst some of the other 'more glamorous' keeper divisions. And it is implied that they bond over this unfortunate stigma.
  • Pet the Dog: She and Horace both prove willing to allow Leon to work with them and their respective animal keeper divisions when they notice both how he genuinely wishes to help and improve his skills as well as how his current reputation as 'the useless one' has caused the staff to treat him in ways fairly similar to the overall lack of respect her and Horace's divisions receive.
  • Ship Tease: Starts receiving this with Horace in The D-Bags.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Loves to eat an apple for lunch every day. Unfortunately, this is a fact that Einstein the pachycephalosaurus proves well aware of once he gets a taste of this fruit himself.
  • The Unfavorite: Implied to be this for her parents, who are in turn implied to mostly favor her older sister Tina.

    Tina Cheng
Cass's older sister, and one of the mammal carnivore keepers.
  • Abusive Parents: Her parents considered her their favorite and openly encouraged the divide between her and Cass.
  • Actor Allusion: Veronica Ngo is once again an older sister to a character (in this case, hypothetically) portrayed by Kelly Marie Tran.
  • Always Someone Better: To her sister Cass.
  • Asian and Nerdy: Is of Vietnamese descent and has the necessary intelligence level to know how to handle large and dangerous carnivorous mammals. She is also shown to have a decent amount of knowledge on the works of Hal Markowitz.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: As troubled as their current sibling dynamics are, she still loves Cass in her own way.
  • Big Sister Bully: Served as an emotional variant of this to Cass when they were younger.
  • Big Ego, Hidden Depths: Secretly loves her sister very much in her own way and privately hopes at times that their dynamic and relationship could be better than it currently is. Unfortunately, a mixture of spending the majority of her life taught to view her and Cass's current dysfunctional dynamic as perfectly acceptable and her own pride makes the idea of trying to patch things up with Cass a very difficult idea to even consider, let alone accept. And she's certainly not one to feel ashamed of her own accomplishments either.
  • Canon Foreigner: Much like her sister, she never once appeared in Prehistoric Earth.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: Raised to view the standard family values of Vietnam as perfectly acceptable, which has unfortunately helped contribute to her current dysfunctional bond with Cass and for her to start having doubts about the morality of such traditions when exposed to the very different (and more visibly loving and healthy) sibling dynamics between the Denhams, Leon and his younger sister, and several baby animal siblings.
  • Parental Favoritism: As far as their parents were concerned, she was the clear favorite in comparison to Cass.

    Mohinder Chandra
One of the sauropod keepers at Prehistoric Park. Of Indian descent.
  • Asian and Nerdy: Of Indian descent and is smart enough to be a competent sauropod keeper.
  • Canon Foreigner: Is first introduced in Prehistoric Park Reimagined without having ever appeared in Prehistoric Earth beforehand.
  • Humble Hero: He is one of the more humble keepers amongst the ranks of the sauropod keepers. He's even tasked himself with acting as peacekeeper between all his fellow sauropod caretakers.
  • Interspecies Friendship: While outright calling it 'friendship' isn't necessarily advised, he has come to feel like he's developed a close bond with several of the sauropods he's personally worked with; particularly Shorty and Baylene.
  • Only Sane Man: Amongst the sauropod keepers to the point he has to always serve as their mediator whenever they argue or similarly let their inflated egos get the better of them.
  • Shipper on Deck: Judging by a half joking comment he made towards Horace and Cass over the course of Hell's Labyrinth, he appears to be quite open to the idea of them being a couple.

    Horace Northup
One of the mammal hoofstock keepers at Prehistoric Park. Is of Nigerian descent.
  • Actor Allusion: Once again, Horace becomes close friends with a character (this time hypothetically) portrayed by Kelly Marie Tran.
  • Birds of a Feather: His awareness of this trope, and the fact that ornithischian keepers are not entirely that different from hoofstock keepers as far as overall work is concerned, is enough to convince him to try to form a friendship with Cass Cheng.
  • Boring, but Practical: Perfectly ok with using comparatively 'boring' methods of providing his charges with enrichment, as they usually prove effective enough to more than make up for their lack of inventiveness.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: Looks very tough and imposing, can be very no-nonsense in his work, and often speaks rather tersely when he's not being willingly silent. But as anyone who's especially close to him will tell you, he's actually a very decent and friendly guy.
  • Canon Foreigner: Was not present whatsoever in Prehistoric Earth.
  • Hidden Depths: Is actually a lot smarter and more capable than his position as a hoofstock keeper would lead most people to believe (especially when around people he trusts sufficiently enough to feel comfortable around).
  • Inter Species Friendship: Calling it 'friendship' is debatable considering the rules of animal care, but he has formed a decently close bond with Dermot the doedicurus.
  • No-Respect Guy: He and the other hoofstock keepers tend to be looked down upon by most other keepers and administrators at the park due to their positions seemingly being the easiest and not much more than glorified farm hand work. He is well aware of this belief, and not at all happy about it.
  • Pet the Dog: He and Cass both prove willing to allow Leon to work with them and their respective animal keeper divisions when they notice both how he genuinely wishes to help and improve his skills as well as how his current reputation as 'the useless one' has caused the staff to treat him in ways fairly similar to the overall lack of respect his and Cass's divisions receive.
  • Ship Tease: With Cass.

    Aaron Joseph
One of the amphibian/reptile keepers at the park, of Trinidadian descent, and a friend of Jack's.
  • The Beast Master: Is immensely skilled at working with the amphibians under his care and even has a small collection of them as pets living in his living quarters.
  • Canon Foreigner: Never appeared in Prehistoric Earth prior to his introduction in this story.
  • The Charmer: Is a huge flirt and is always ready to either throw out a flirty line to any attractive girl that suits his fancy or at least run such a line by his friends to see what they think about it first.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While his opinion of Leon early on in the story is about the same as Jack's (and presumably of most, if not all, of the other members of the reptile and amphibian keeper division), he is nonetheless willing to acknowledge that Leon can at least be useful for his animal knowledge, possibly at least slightly respect the fact that Leon's at least trying to improve his skills and standing, and is also (despite not having all that close of a bond with her compared to Jack) grateful for Leon's successfully managing to help rescue Yolanda from the crassigyrinus.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Over the course of his introduction in Return of the King, he seemingly rather pridefully boasts that he's looking forward to seeing the reptile and amphibian keeper divisions remind the mammal keeper divisions "who really runs this joint"...immediately after light heartedly complaining that said divisions are starting to get too full of themselves.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Has formed a strong bond with Newter the scapherpeton.
  • Jumped at the Call: Was not at all slow in accepting the opportunity to take part in the Novum apprenticeship program. Also proved likewise eager to accept the offer to work at Prehistoric Park.
  • Nice Guy: Seems quite friendly and on good terms with Jack and their mutual friends amongst the reptile/amphibian keepers.
  • Noodle Incident: One particular date he tried to go on with a girl named Marcia during his time stationed in Costa Rica apparently devolved into a rather embarrassing spectacle that had Carmen laughing for days when she learned about it.
  • Sensory Abuse: Is subjected to this alongside Hugo and the other keepers present when one of the newly rescued quetzalcoatlus in Return of the King lets out a blaring loud shriek.
  • Token Black Friend: Being of Trinidadian descent, he is noticeably the only black member of the four prominent reptile/amphibian keepers introduced in Return of the King.
  • True Companions: With Jack, Hugo, Carmen, and Maria.

    Carmen Perez
A Hispanic amphibian/reptile keeper at the park and a good friend of Jack and Aaron, and also a childhood friend with Maria.
  • Birds of a Feather: She and Maria both have a mutual love of turtles and tortoises. They are also major pranksters.
  • Canon Foreigner: Is first introduced in Prehistoric Park Reimagined without having ever appeared in Prehistoric Earth beforehand.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Can be very snarky at times.
  • Genki Girl: As snarky as she can occasionally be, she can also be very energetic and outgoing, which makes the fact that she's especially partial to caring for turtles and tortoises very ironic.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: She can be quite the girly girl, but also can be a real tomboy every now and then.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Has formed a strong bond with Toby the axestemys.
  • Jumped at the Call: She and Maria were both eager to accept the opportunity to take part in the Novum apprenticeship program (and later employment at Prehistoric Park) when the opportunity arose for as much.
  • Nice Girl: Is good friends with Jack and the rest of the reptile/amphibian keepers at the park.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The energetic and outgoing red to Maria's calm and collected blue.
  • Spicy Latina: Averted. While very energetic and outgoing, she is not at all stereotypically hot blooded or sexy.
  • True Companions: With Jack, Aaron, Hugo, and Maria.

    Maria Gonzales
A Hispanic amphibian/reptile keeper at the park and a good friend to Jack, Aaron, and Carmen (with the last of these three having been her friend since childhood).
  • Birds of a Feather: She and Carmen both have a mutual love of turtles and tortoises. They are also major pranksters.
  • Canon Foreigner: Is first introduced in Prehistoric Park Reimagined without having ever appeared in Prehistoric Earth beforehand.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While it has been neither confirmed nor denied (though it can certainly be inferred) whether or not she has all that high of an opinion of Leon, she at the very least seems to draw the line at blatantly targeting Leon with her and her friends' pranks under the excuse that "it would be like shooting a baby."
  • Interspecies Friendship: Is implied to have formed a strong bond with Basil the basilemys.
  • Jumped at the Call: She and Carmen were both eager to accept the opportunity to take part in the Novum apprenticeship program (and later employment at Prehistoric Park) when the opportunity arose for as much.
  • Nice Girl: Is good friends with Jack and the other amphibian/reptile keepers at the park. She has also in fact been close friends with Carmen since they were both little kids. And unlike Jack, Aaron, and Carmen, she explicitly draws the line at blatantly choosing Leon as a target for the group's pranks despite potentially somewhat sharing their opinion of him to some capacity or other.
  • Not So Above It All: While much more calm and collected compared to Carmen, she is just as much of a prankster as Carmen.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The calm and collected blue to Carmen's energetic and outgoing red.
  • Supreme Chef: Is a very good cook amongst the reptile/amphibian keeper team.
  • Token Good Teammate: Downplayed, as neither she, nor any of her four fellow reptile/amphibian enthusiast friends are evil by any stretch of the mind. But as far as Leon is concerned, she is at least implied to be much more willing to draw the line at letting her friends blatantly target him as a victim of their pranks and is perhaps not as quick to act openly antagonistic or mocking in her opinions on him as Jack, Aaron, and Carmen.
  • True Companions: With Jack, Carmen, Aaron, and Hugo.
  • What Were You Thinking?: Thinks this about herself after finding herself staring alongside multiple keepers in stunned shock at the sight of a small waterfall full of crocodiles coming pouring out of the portal and into one of the holding pens.

    Hugo Adams
One of the amphibian/reptile keepers at the park, and a good friend of Jack, Aaron, Maria, and Carmen.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Is occasionally referred to as "Hawkeye" by Jack, Aaron, Carmen, and Maria because of his skill at archery.
  • Canon Foreigner: While initially considered for inclusion in Prehistoric Earth, he ultimately never made the cut for the former fanfic and only manages to at last see the light of day for the first time in Prehistoric Park Reimagined.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has a very snarky sense of humor.
  • Interspecies Friendship: With Kermit the beelzebufo.
  • Jumped at the Call: Did not take long at all to sign up for the Novum apprenticeship program when the opportunity arose, or accept the offer to work at Prehistoric Park for that matter.
  • Master Archer: Is stated to be a very skilled archer.
  • Nice Guy: A good friend of Jack and the other reptile/amphibian keepers at the park. And depending on just what sort of opinion he turns out to have on the matter, he may or may not have quite as openly negative an opinion of Leon compared to Jack, Aaron, and Carmen. And then there's the fact that he's also kind enough to remove a bikini top from its unexpected careless positioning (presumably over the course of a recent staff Halloween party) upon the head of Wally the diplocaulus after what is implied to have been a respectable amount of time has passed with no one else doing so.
  • Sensory Abuse: Is subjected to this alongside Aaron and the other keepers present when one of the newly rescued quetzalcoatlus in Return of the King lets out an ear splitting shriek.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: While guns (tranquilizer-based or otherwise) are very much available, he seems to largely prefer wielding his trusty bow and arrows instead.
  • Token Minority: Alongside the black Trinidadian Aaron and the Hispanic Carmen and Maria, he is the only Caucasian amongst the four named reptile/amphibian keepers introduced in Return of the King.
  • True Companions: With Jack, Aaron, Carmen, and Maria.
  • True Neutral: A possible case in regards to his thoughts on Leon. For the narrative has so far neither confirmed nor denied whether he's as openly negative in his opinions as Jack, Carmen, and Aaron, or as comparatively nicer about the matter like Maria.

    Marianne "Mia" Nelson
One of the park's aquarists. Is quite noticeably almost always dressed in a wetsuit when on duty.

    Laura Allen
One of the park's aquarists and a friend of Mia's. Of British descent.
  • Canon Foreigner: Never once appeared in Prehistoric Earth prior to her appearance in this story.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: When it comes to her, telling her a secret is usually an unspoken guarantee of said secret becoming common knowledge by the end of the hour (making it all the more surprising that she hasn't managed to blab about the park to someone unaffiliated with them).
  • Cool Aunt: Is implied to at the very least be a very devoted and loving aunt to her nephews.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Is blonde and a Nice Girl.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With close friend and fellow aquarist Mia Nelson.
  • Nice Girl: Is amongst the friendlier members of the park staff.

Security

    Nikolai Koshkin
Former Spetsnaz agent turned head of security at Prehistoric Park.
  • Actor Allusion: This isn't the first time (or even the second time for that matter) Nikolai has served as The Big Guy of a team or served as a Parental Substitute for a troubled girl with a complicated family past.
  • The Atoner: He explicitly views Prehistoric Park as a chance to start over in life via working at a place of life where he can work to save things instead of killing them after having spent many years before getting hired by Theodore as a bringer of death for the Spetsnaz.
  • The Big Guy: The most physically combat capable of the park's four heads of staff.
  • Boys Like Creepy Critters: Loved capturing and releasing insects when he was a child.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: As tough and merciless as he looks on the outside, he's actually a very decent person on the inside once you get to know him.
  • Brutal Honesty: He makes no secret how dangerous he considers multiple animals at the park to be and how important it is for him and the other security guards, plus the other staff, to be on their toes and at the ready for any potential problems or danger to unfold.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: 0h yes. His parents and sister were all dead by the time he was twenty-one - his father from a sniper when Nikolai waa just a toddler, his mother hit by a drunk driver and his sister abducted, raped and murdered. As a result of his exeriences in the Spetsnaz, he lost multiple friends, gained multiple physical and mental scars and a boatload of guilt. And that's just what he's willing to allow people to know.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: As can typically be expected from most ex-soldiers without direction, he chose to cope with his past by drinking himself into oblivion. He eventually stopped doing this when Theodore came into the picture.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: He has multiple scars from his past in the Spetsnaz, with some of the more notable ones being positioned on his forehead and arm. And while he may look rather imposing, he's a decent fellow once you've gotten to know him and earned his trust.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Tags along with the rescue team during Ice Time.
  • Hidden Depths: During a quiet conversation scene he has with Jack at the end of Alien Empire, he reveals himself to be a Nice Guy underneath his tough and stoic exterior, to have greatly enjoyed catching and releasing insects when he was a child, and to enjoy listening to a large variety of music.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Seems to get along well with and have formed a small bond with Felix the arthropleura. He also forms a strong companionship with Martha the woolly mammoth.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Can come across as a little excessively paranoid and gruff, but is actually not a bad person underneath it all.
  • Jumped at the Call: As much as his past in the Spetsnaz affected him, he was not so badly affected as to turn down the offer to work as Prehistoric Park's chief of security when Theodore offered as much.
  • Mother Russia Makes You Strong: It clearly made him strong enough to work in the Spetsnaz and live to tell the tale (though he usually prefers not to) before getting hired to work at Prehistoric Park.
  • Never Got to Say Goodbye: He never got to say goodbye to his mother or his sister, who both died - the former hit by a drunk driver when Nikolai was seventeen and the latter abducted, raped and murdered when Nikolai was away serving. It's clear that both haunt him greatly.
  • Older Than They Look: As Drew notes, he looks fairly young for someone in his early 50s.
  • Parental Substitute: Collete considers him the closest thing to a father she's ever had, and he himself happily considers her to be his surrogate daughter.
  • Properly Paranoid: Considering just what kind of animals the park will be working with, he's not entirely wrong to be wary of potential threats.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While understandably on guard over potential threats, he's not incapable of accepting a workable plan or system, as Leon and the rescue team can attest.
  • The Stoic: Gives off a vibe of not showing off more emotion than absolutely necessary.
  • Survivor Guilt: As unsettled as he feels about all the people he's killed, he also feels equally unhappy about all the comrades he had in the Spetsnaz that ended up dying while he was helpless to do anything to save them.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Kyle initially doesn't get along with him over supposedly being too paranoid about potential threats while also taking issue with Nikolai seemingly implying that he views him and the other keepers as incompetent morons. Nikolai, meanwhile, takes issue with Kyle seemingly not being worried enough about things that could go wrong at the park and is less than pleased with Kyle showcasing initial limited faith in Jack's ability and skill as a keeper. Fortunately, they are eventually able to find common ground and grow out of their initial antagonism over the course of Hell's Labyrinth.
  • These Hands Have Killed: He is well aware of how many people whose deaths he's played some sort of role in causing. Therefore, a key motivator behind his accepting Theodore's offer to serve as the chief security guard at Prehistoric Park.

    Colette Dubois
A member of park security, and Nikolai's 'number two'. Of French descent.
  • Action Girl: Considering her job, she's definitely one of these. And even though she hasn't actually demonstrated as much yet, the impression she gives off at a staff meeting is enough to make Drew have no reason to question her status as one.
  • Aloof Ally: While arguably on the same side as all the other staff members, she largely acts rather aloof and seemingly antisocial towards any people she doesn't already have a close working relationship with or subsequently choose to consider a friend. This behavior, however, largely doesn't exactly endear her to most of the staff outside the security division.
  • Ascended Extra: Aside from being Jack's Love Interest, she was given comparatively little to do in Prehistoric Earth. Here, she gets a lot of focus in both the main story and spinoff Extras, while also having exactly the kind of Jerk with a Heart of Gold Action Girl personality she was originally supposed to have in Prehistoric Earth.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Since Jack is largely one of the few staff members outside the security division that treats her nicely and actually understands the true nature of her seemingly haughty and antisocial Jerkass behavior, she returns the favor by being nice to him and letting him see her hidden soft side.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: Is a no nonsense Action Girl and largely gives off a I'm Not Here to Make Friends vibe, but appears to have a hidden soft center that she's willing, for some reason or other, to allow Jack to have rare glimpses of when they interact.
  • Closet Geek: Lightly implied to be this in Hell's Labyrinth when she ends up recognizing a reference Jack makes to Firefly. Jack very swiftly makes note of this fact.
  • Fascinating Eyebrow: Immediately raises her eyebrow in Novum Initium upon noticing that there was only one copy of the mission's 'animal dossier' in the folder containing it despite Leon claiming he'd made two (the first of which had already been given to Kyle quite a while earlier).
  • Foil: To Leon. Both of them can come across as rather antisocial and aloof and have a small group of close companions. Leon, however, is much more willing to try to add new members to his group of companions, does not at all try to hide what people he feels comfortable and happy to be in the company of, and rarely ever intends to make himself look as antisocial as he sometimes comes across to be. Colette, on the other hand, deliberately puts on an antisocial and aloof front, is a lot more slow in allowing herself to consider allowing new additions to her group of close companions, and usually tries to keep those she considers close friends and how happy she feels when around them a secret from everyone else.
  • He Is Not My Boyfriend: Expresses this viewpoint in regards to Jack when Yolanda playfully teases her on perhaps having a crush on him over the course of Building Bridges.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: Explicitly described as having these.
  • I'm Not Here to Make Friends: Starts out largely more focused on her work than on making any lasting friendships with any of the other staff. Jack and Nikolai appear to be noticeable exceptions to this rule, however. And later on, she ultimately proves willing to befriend Yolanda, Jack's foursome of friends among the herpetology keeper division, and even Jack's older sister Alice.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Is revealed in Of Scales and Feathers to have been slowly forming a bond with Nero the dire wolf. And in The Oddities, it is revealed that she has also started forming a similar bond with Hannibal the argentavis.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Can act in ways that seemingly convey her as being rather haughty and placing higher priority on her work than on making any friends, but has a Hidden Heart of Gold that she proves willing to show to Jack.
  • The Lancer: Explicitly referred to by Nikolai as his 'number two'.
  • Like a Daughter to Me: Nikolai views her as his surrogate daughter, and she likewise considers him to be like a father to her.
  • Ship Tease: With Jack.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: A tomboy to Yolanda and Kaisumi's girly girls.
  • Tsundere: Typically has a rather sour exterior, but also has a hidden sweet and soft side that she usually only shows to a small number of people.

    John Willowby
One of the chief security guards at the park. Serves as Nikolai's first officer and acts as captain of the security force when Nikolai's not around.
  • Canon Foreigner: Had no counterpart whatsoever in Prehistoric Earth.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite looking like a jock type of person, he is revealed to have actually done a decent amount of research for the sake of his job and having decent knowledge on the animals.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Has formed a bond with Forestock the harpactognathus (whom he personally helped hatch after his egg fell from his nest) and is actively training him to serve as his personal security animal companion.
  • The Lancer: As first officer, he naturally shares this position with Colette in the park's security forces.
  • Nice Guy: Is fairly friendly and non-confrontational throughout his interactions with Jack.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Is entirely willing to hear what Jack has to say when the latter is helping him and his team in their work on inspecting the giant theropod carnivore enclosures, and even works to try to keep Joe Bristow in line.

    Peter Farnsworth
A corporal in Willowby's team who serves as the structural specialist.
  • Actor Allusion: This isn't the first time that Peter has been a person that worked with machines.
  • Canon Foreigner: Has no counterpart in Prehistoric Earth.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite having an athlete's build, he is implied to have been smart enough to devote an appropriate amount of time doing necessary research on the animals.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Has formed a bond with Geronimo the palaeosaniwa.
  • The Stoic: Has a very humorless face and doesn't show much emotion other than a humorless scowl.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Not necessarily evil, but his stoic manner, humorless face, and rather patronizing clarification to Jack about what his position entails is enough to make him come across as the team jerk at the very least.
  • Utility Party Member: While likely plenty skilled in combat in the event of a crisis, he largely works as the expert in the construction and repair of fences and similar elements for the park.

    Calum Fox
A sergeant in Willowby's team who serves as the field expert and resident tracker of the team. Hails from Scotland.
  • Actor Allusion: Via Hypothetical Casting, he and David have worked together before in circumstances involving unusual circumstances (although in this case they're both active members of the same team).
  • Brave Scot: Is of Scottish descent and a member of the park's security forces.
  • Canon Foreigner: Has no counterpart in Prehistoric Earth.
  • Cool Old Guy: Is one of the older members of the team.
  • Hidden Depths: Implied to have taken the time to do important research on the animals despite his largely looking somewhat like how an athlete would look.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Has begun training saurornitholestes brothers Smith and Wesson to serve as his personal security guard animals as of their rescue in The D-Bags.
  • Nice Guy: Seems to get along well with Jack.

    David Doody
A private in Willowby's team who serves as the team medic.
  • Actor Allusion: Via Hypothetical Casting, he and Calum have worked together before in circumstances involving unusual circumstances (although in this case they're both active members of the same team).
  • Canon Foreigner: Has no counterpart in Prehistoric Earth.
  • Combat Medic: Serves as the team medic, and is more than capable of taking care of himself in a fracas.
  • Hidden Depths: Implied to have done a respectable amount of research on the animals despite his overall jock style looks.
  • The Medic: And one trained for combat to!
  • Nasal Trauma: Clearly underwent this judging by how he has a rather badly broken nose.
  • Nice Guy: Is one of the friendlier members of the team and Jack takes a liking to him immediately after first meeting the guy.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Has a very broad smile that you are much more likely to see than not see.
  • Token Minority: Is the only black member of the team.

    Joe Bristow
Another private in Willowby's team. Serves as the heavy weapons expert.

    Anita Watts
A lance corporal in Willowby's team, the only woman in the team apart from Colette, and the communications expert.

Veterinary Staff

    Linda Eberhart
The park's head-vet with a history of past veterinary work at several accredited zoos. Tasked with treating the injured and sick animals and likewise looking after their health.
  • Actor Allusion: Linda is once again a Nice Girl working at a zoo.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Had a close bond with Cirrus the ornithocheirus in Prehistoric Earth. Here, she appears to have only interacted with Cirrus the Quetzalcoatlus as much as was absolutely needed over the course of giving him the medical treatment he needed after his rescue.
  • Ascended Extra: While still occasionally given several scenes in the limelight, plus a bond with Cirrus, in Prehistoric Earth, she largely didn't get nearly as much time in the spotlight as Kyle and Nikolai and was almost completely Demoted to Extra in the story's third and final 'season'. Here, she is very much a key player in the story who gets multiple scenes devoted to her throughout the main story as well as the spinoff Extras.
  • Awesome, Dear Boy: While already intrigued by the possibility of 'new horizons', she finds Theodore's offer to work as Prehistoric Park's chief veterinarian impossible to pass up once she learns that it means getting to work with dinosaurs and other extinct prehistoric animals in the flesh.
  • Generation Xerox: As Drew himself notes, she and her younger assistant Yolanda Hall look so startlingly alike that it's kind of surprising they're not related.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Is a blonde Kindly Vet.
  • Interspecies Friendship: With Sid the megatherium and Carina the edmontosaurus.
  • Jumped at the Call: Had no problem with accepting Theodore's offer to serve as Prehistoric Park's chief veterinarian.
  • Kindly Vet: Is the head veterinarian of Prehistoric Park, and by far one of the nicest characters in the story.
  • Nice Girl: Is a 100% Kindly Vet who's very slow (if at all capable) to antagonize anyone.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Much like Kyle, she sees no problem with the current arrangement for how Prehistoric Park works.
  • Shipper on Deck: Judging by her thoughts over the course of seeing the two undergoing an apparent mating ritual, she appears to be this for Rommel and Otrera the dimetrodon pair.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Is the only woman amongst the park's four chiefs of staff.

    Yolanda Hall
Linda's direct assistant in the Prehistoric Park veterinary division.
  • Actor Allusion: This isn't the first time Yolanda has been involved in something that required her to work with dinosaurs (although these dinosaurs are flesh and blood instead of alien robots).
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: In Prehistoric Earth, she was never really shown to undergo any signs of hiding any secret inner pain or trauma in the slightest. Here, she's heavily implied in 'phase/season 2' to be harboring some rather unhappy memories from a less than pleasant experience she underwent prior to getting hired to work at the park that she actively tries desperately to suppress so as to avoid breaking down from the trauma.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Was never really shown to interact that much (if at all) with Alice and Jack in Prehistoric Earth (although the former at least turned out to know her well enough to answer some important questions about her that Leon at one point ended up asking). Here, she's explicitly described in the narrative to have ended up becoming very close friends with both of the Denham siblings.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Compared to her Prehistoric Earth counterpart, she's a bit more of a spitfire.
  • All-Loving Heroine: While not the main hero of the story, she generally makes a concerted effort to see the best in everyone she works with, human and animal alike.
  • Birds of a Feather: Thanks to having a very similar sense of humour, she and Jack get along quite well and become fast friends.
  • Crash-Into Hello: Her first proper meeting and interactions with Leon end up ensuing after accidentally engaging in one of these with him.
  • Cuteness Proximity: As demonstrated by her reaction to the sight of two baby allosaurus playing tug-of-war with their food, she has a tendency to suffer from this.
  • Damsel in Distress: Is accidentally knocked into the crassigyrinus pool and rendered in need of rescue during South of Heaven. Fortunately for her, Leon is quick to come to her rescue (with Andrias the proterogyrinus ending up also summoned into the area to provide additional assistance).
  • Everyone Has Standards: Generally makes an effort to see the best in everyone and not harbor any resentment or similar negative feelings towards anyone. But even so, as Cynthia eventually finds out, she does not take kindly to being bossed around or treated as if she doesn't know what she's doing.
  • Generation Xerox: As Drew mentally notes, she and Linda look so startlingly alike that it's rather surprising she's not Linda's daughter.
  • Genki Girl: Rather enthusiastically nods her head in agreement with Linda (complete with a wide smile on her face) over the course of a staff meeting, and generally tends to be very excitable and happy go lucky in the vast majority of situations.
  • The Glomp: How she likes to express gratitude.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: With her, truer words could never be spoken.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Forms a bond with Yenna the hyaenodon.
  • Kindly Vet: Very much takes after Linda in this regard.
  • Like a Son to Me: While well aware of her biological mother still being alive, well, and involved in Yolanda's life, Linda views her as the closest thing she'll ever have to a daughter of her own.
  • Nice Girl: Just like Linda.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: If Yolanda is angry at you, you know you've fucked up.
  • Shipper on Deck: The Little Guys indicates she's a big Jack/Colette shipper.
  • Ship Tease: With Leon
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: While Leon's quirkiness and general knowledge of animals was what initially attracted her to him and caught her interest, she gradually falls for him as she spends more and more time in his company following his rescuing her from the crassigyrinus and sees him let down his walls enough around her to reveal how brave, funny, and loyal he is to those he cares about.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Starts admiringly watching Leon from afar and in hiding not too long after she first starts to suspect the possibility of her growing to like him as more than a friend.
  • Stepford Smiler: Implied to be a downplayed version of this. While she's very much genuine in her happy go lucky Genki Girl image, it is heavily hinted that something very unpleasant happened to her in the past when she was first attending veterinary school and that she actively tries her damnedest to suppress her memories of this experience.
  • Survival Mantra: Often says 'Happy Place' multiple times in a row via either whispers under her breath or mental thoughts to herself whenever she feels the need to attempt to suppress particularly unpleasant memories of her past before she got hired to work for Novum at the park.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: A girly girl to Alice and Colette's tomboys.

    Harold 'Harry' Carver
Co-chief veterinarian at Prehistoric Park from Ireland who loves to pass his free time painting pictures of the park's animals.
  • A Father to His Men: Due to being a father to two children that are currently still in Ireland alongside his wife, he knows very well how to handle some of the younger staff members.
  • Good Parents: Is a very good father to his children.
  • Kindly Vet: Is a Nice Guy and a veterinarian.
  • Mellow Fellow: Is very patient and slow to anger, traits that he is well aware are useful for him as both a veterinarian and as a painter.

    Bethany Williams
One of the vets at Prehistoric Park. Can seem rather unusual and difficult to get to know, but is a good friend to those who know her well enough.
  • Aloof Ally: Is one of the more solitary members of the veterinary division and usually prefers to keep to herself.
  • Canon Foreigner: Despite initially being considered for inclusion in Prehistoric Earth, she never appeared in the former fanfic.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Is somewhat pale skinned and half of her hair is black (the other half is red; and it's left ambiguous as to which color is natural and which (if not both) is the result of dye).
  • Expy: According to Nathanoraptor, she is heavily based upon Sam Manson.
  • Friend to All Children: Is noted to get along well with children.
  • Friend to Bugs: Noticeably likes hanging around invertebrates (and also smaller mammals and reptiles) during her moments of free time.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Shown to have formed a version of this with Selqet the pulmonoscorpius and Neith the megalorachne, plus Larry the petrolacosaurus.
  • Kindly Vet: Can be a pretty Nice Girl when one gets past her seemingly creepy, morbid, and disconcerting initial exterior behavior and vibe. She can still be pretty firm at times though.
  • Morality Pet: Is noticeably one of the few people that Selqet the pulmonoscorpius trusts enough to allow to carry her around by hand.

Research

    Khatin von Schorzberg
Chief of the Prehistoric Park research division. Not the best at social skills, but more than makes up for it with his valuable knowledge and sheer brilliance. Of German descent.
  • Absent-Minded Professor: Played with in that he's first introduced focusing more on a book he's reading than on everyone else around him when the staff meeting at the beginning of Novum Initium begins, but proves himself to have in fact been paying attention when he later brings up the very real possibility of encountering animals not yet known to science.
  • A Father to His Men: Has a very close, though also occasionally stern, father-like bond to his three most trusted younger assistants.
  • Ascended Extra: Never even got the chance to speak during his first ever appearance in Prehistoric Earth, and got arguably only a single full 'episode' of undergoing the planned prominence he was originally supposed to have in that story. Here, he very much plays a prominent role throughout multiple episodes in both the main story as well as the spinoff Extras.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Is smart enough and careful enough in his observations to take note of multiple important, and sometimes seemingly insignificant, details; occasionally even noticing details that Leon misses on first glance.
  • Awesome, Dear Boy: The fact that he'd get the chance to study prehistoric animals as living and breathing flesh and blood animals and finally answer questions that had proven impossible to answer via study of just the bones and other remains proved a heavy motivator for his accepting Theodore's offer to be the chief of Prehistoric Park's research division.
  • Brutal Honesty: Tact is not his strong suit.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Sometimes.
  • Jumped at the Call: Like the other chiefs of staff, he took very little convincing to accept the offer to work at Prehistoric Park.
  • Parental Substitute: Is revealed to have started taking care of a pair of abandoned ornithomimus eggs in The D-Bags.
  • Properly Paranoid: Considering how the rescue team ends up bringing at least two undiscovered pterosaurs, plus several undiscovered prehistoric mammals, back to the park in only the first mission, he wasn't entirely wrong to check to see if they'd planned on what to do in the event of such a possibility.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Much like his fellow chiefs of staff, he's perfectly capable of accepting a reasonable plan or explanation suggested by his coworkers and underlings.
  • Seen It All: After about two weeks' worth of incidents involving the compsognathus escaping from their exhibit, he is no longer surprised outside of brief bafflement when he finds a trio of the little dinosaurs in his office after a recent escape. He's still excitably flabbergasted though whenever a species undiscovered in the fossil record is discovered alive and brought through the portal though.
  • The Smart Guy: Amongst the park's heads of staff. Being the chief of the park's research division, it only makes sense he's this.

    William "Will" Darrow
A member of the park's research division, one of Khatin's three most trusted younger assistants, and a close friend of Alice.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: While described as being a close friend to both Alice and Matt in Prehistoric Earth, his close friendship with the latter largely became more and more of an Informed Attribute over time in the former fanfic due to Matt's Demoted to Extra status caused by behind the scenes drama robbing him of his initially planned prominent role. Will also only shared a single brief scene with Kaisumi in the former fanfic in which the latter never even spoke or interacted with him in any way differently than if she'd have been interacting with any other employee at the park. Here, he is shown throughout multiple chapters to be very close friends indeed to both Matt and Kaisumi as well as with Alice.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Tags along with Alice and the rest of the rescue team in Ice Time.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Has ash blonde hair and is a Nice Guy.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Has formed a very strong bond with Baloo the cave bear.
  • Nice Guy: Appears to be a very good friend of Alice, even giving her the option to opt out of assisting him, Khatin, Matt, and Kaisumi with identifying the gender of a newly rescued arthropleura if she's too busy to assist.
  • Ship Tease: Starts receiving a heavy dosage of this with Alice in Phase 2.
  • True Companions: With Alice, Matt, and Kaisumi.

    Matthew "Matt" Thompson
A member of the park's research division, one of Khatin's three most trusted younger assistants, and a close friend of Will and Alice.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: While described as having been a close friend to Alice and Will in Prehistoric Earth, his Demoted to Extra status in that fic that resulted from behind the scenes strife caused this to largely seem like an Informed Attribute. Here, he is shown interacting with Will and Alice enough times to very much warrant such a description. Furthermore, he never shared any scenes with Kaisumi in the former fanfic due to Kaisumi herself getting her initially planned prominence cut down to a single brief silent cameo in Spirits of the Silent Forest, but is shown to be one of her closest friends alongside Will and Alice in this story from as early as their introductory chapter.
  • Ascended Extra: Never got the chance to join Will in ascending to the originally planned level of prominence he was supposed to have in Prehistoric Earth after being Demoted to Extra after only one or two episodes in which he played a prominent role. Here, he's already played a prominent role in at least three episodes of the main story and interacted with Alice and Will enough times to more than warrant his description as a close friend of theirs that ended up coming across as an Informed Attribute in Prehistoric Earth as a result of his unintentionally reduced prominence in that fic.
  • Brainy Brunette: Dark haired, and one of Khatin's most trusted younger assistants amongst the research division.
  • Nice Guy: Appears to have a very close and happy friendship with Alice and Will, even engaging in some good spirited banter with the latter.
  • True Companions: With Alice, Will, and Kaisumi.

    Kaisumi Ishiara
A member of the park's research division, one of Khatin's three most trusted younger assistants, and a close friend of Will and Matt.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Due to only appearing in a single brief scene in Prehistoric Earth (in which she never even spoke) she only shared the screen with Will, Jack, and Collete without really interacting all that meaningfully with either of them. Here, she's shown to be very close friends with not only Will, but also with Matt and Alice.
  • Ascended Extra: She appeared in one scene in Prehistoric Earth, where she had no dialogue. Here, she's fairly prominent.
  • Asian and Nerdy: Is Japanese and clearly very smart indeed judging by her position.
  • Brainy Brunette: Has black hair and is smart enough to be a member of the park's research division.
  • Genki Girl: While capable of keeping control of herself when actively working, she is shown to be quite energetic and excitable.
  • Moment Killer: Can't help but giggle in amusement at the sight of Yolanda hugging Leon in gratitude for saving her life and Leon himself seeming quite happy about as much.
  • Nice Girl: Is a good friend to Matt and Will (and is on good terms with Alice), and is very kind, sweet, and polite.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Is the only girl amongst Khatin's trio of most trusted younger assistants.
  • Token Minority: Is the only non-white member of Khatin's trio of most trusted younger assistants
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: A girly girl to Alice and Collete's tomboys.
  • True Companions: With Will and Matt.

Other

    Stavros Ballas
Captain of the Ancient Mariner. He is first introduced in time to help Drew, Jack, and Alice out in the nothosaurus mission in New Blood.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While arguably fairly carefree and laidback most of the time, especially compared to his much more serious and no nonsense first mate Kira, he does not at all hesitate to spill the beans on Jack and Leon after he catches them squabbling at a time when they are supposed to be keeping watch over the radar and starboard camera for Drew's sake in Devils of the Deep and end up accidentally putting their leader at risk of getting either killed or maimed by a foursome of dunkleosteus (and is even shown with a withering glare on his face directed towards them when they and Drew first notice he's even there on the upper deck of the Ancient Mariner with them when he's first revealed to have been present in time to see them squabbling).
  • Canon Foreigner: Despite his ship having been present in Prehistoric Earth, he himself was not present alongside it in the former fanfic.
  • The Captain: Shares this role with Drew and his first mate Kira.
  • Cool Boat: His ship, the Ancient Mariner, qualifies as this.
  • Interspecies Friendship: With Nemo the juvenile nothosaurus.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: As much as he typically leaves the especially heavy lifting of captainship to his first mate Kira, he is more than capable of pulling his weight and showing off a more authoritative side to him whenever he finds himself and his crew in an especially dangerous situation.
  • Mellow Fellow: He's very easy going and slow to anger to the point that sometimes he can end up being a little too generous with how he allows the Ancient Mariner crew to spend their time, which leaves first mate Kira Nagayoshi the duty of making sure everyone stays on task when on duty.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Despite his laid back and seemingly carefree nature, he is not without good reason for his position as the Ancient Mariner's captain. And he most certainly will not put up with one ounce of bullshit from Jack and Leon when they're under his watch.
  • Those Two Guys: Is almost always seen sharing scenes with first mate Kira.

    Kira Nagayoshi
First mate of the Ancient Mariner. In his own words, he is the one responsible for keeping the crew in line and on task when the captain is feeling too generous with how the crew spends their time at work.
  • Actor Allusion: This isn't the first time that Brian Tee has worked at a zoo full of dinosaurs.
  • Canon Foreigner: Much like his captain and the rest of his crew, he never appeared alongside the Ancient Mariner in Prehistoric Earth.
  • The Captain: Arguably shares this position with Drew and Stavros (the latter of whom is the actual officially named captain of the crew).
  • The Lancer: He's the first mate of the Ancient Mariner's crew.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Much like Stavros. Despite his somewhat more serious nature and personality compared to his captain, he can be convinced into undergoing a reasonable idea.
  • Straight Man: To Stavros's comparative wise guy.
  • Those Two Guys: Is almost always seen sharing scenes with captain Stavros.

    Henry Ramon
One of the chief marketers at Novum and the public relations manager for Prehistoric Park.
  • Canon Foreigner: Never appeared in Prehistoric Earth.
  • Nice Guy: Is a very friendly and affable fellow.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Is established to apparently already know Kyle, Linda, and Nikolai fairly well from their time at Novum prior to working at the park, but was never mentioned prior to his official introduction to the story in Storm in the Desert.

    Kevin Drake
A construction worker hired to serve as the foreman to the temporary workmen Percival hires to ostensibly assist with the park's opening day preparations.
  • Accomplice by Inaction: While he has the same low opinion of both Percival and the antics of his ostensible underlings that the established park staff have, he initially makes no effort at reigning in his underlings or filing any complaints against Percival due to feeling it would be better to have guaranteed low wages than risk getting dismissed. He swiftly makes up for this initial status big time once he makes a deal with the park staff that allows him the ability to still get paid even while no longer actively in allegiance with Percival.
  • Canon Foreigner: Never appeared in Prehistoric Earth.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Is more than capable of letting off a good zinger and can be quite sarcastic in nature.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Can be very gruff and rough around the edges, but he's ultimately an honorable man when given sufficient motivation and reason to do the right thing.
  • Neutral No Longer: Initially was willing to just sit around and make no real effort at trying to rein in his unruly 'underlings' or file complaints against Percival due to feeling it wouldn't be worth risking getting dismissed and replaced. But once he's made a deal with Kyle and Nikolai that allows him to still be paid (and quite highly at that) while no longer maintaining any further allegiance to Percival, he is very swift to put his underlings in their place and get them focused on activities far more helpful to the park.
  • Only in It for the Money: Initially starts out as only bothering to stick around at the park despite his strong dislike for both Percival and the unruly temporary workmen he's ostensibly serving as foreman for due to not wanting to risk getting dismissed and losing a guaranteed chance at earning wages. He eventually comes to appreciate the park for what it is and consider sticking around for good once he finally gets the opportunity for as much over the course of finally working to get his underlings in line, growing out of this mindset in the process.
