"I don't help people. I kill them."
Voiced by: Steve Blum

The mysterious man that enters the Jefferson Island in order to save the mayor's daughter, but he also pursues another goal that is hidden from everyone else.

  • Anti-Hero: As he puts it, he doesn't help people; he kills them, and he has no problems killing his way to the top of Deathwatch in some pretty gruesome ways even if there is no indication that he actually enjoys what he does. He also openly expresses disgust towards Deathwatch's current venue, as he does not approve of civilians being involved with the game. He actually abdicated his spot as champion of Deathwatch years ago because he grew tired of the constant killing.
  • Artificial Limbs: His right arm is mechanical and equipped with a retractable chainsaw.
  • Badass Biker: He's quite a skilled biker, able to fight off punks on motorcycles and manuever between obstacles.
  • Chainsaw Good: His primary weapon is a chainsaw blade that comes out of his metal arm.
  • The Cynic: Many of the cutscenes show he has a very low opinion of the human race.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He has a dry and sardonic wit in the cutscenes.
  • Defector from Decadence: He was (and still technically is) the reigning three-time champion of Deathwatch who left after he got sick and tired of the killing. He's returned to take down the organizers of the current Deathwatch.
  • Expy: Of Marv and Hartigan from Sin City, which has inspired the game's art style. From the former he gets his impressive physique, penchant for violence and Warrior Poet tendencies, from the latter he receives his initial motivation (Always Save the Girl) and sense of justice.
  • Magic Plastic Surgery: After he retired as a champion of Deathwatch, he got contacted by the government and had his appearance changed completely in order to fool Noa and the games' organizers.
  • Multi-Melee Master: He's able to proficiently use any weapon he can get his hands on. Keeping in mind that he used to compete in Deathwatch before and win some competitions, he's already familiar with all of them.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Incredibly violent towards anyone who tries to kill him, and he murders the mastermind of the Deathwatch in cold blood.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: He can punch really, really fast, and even win a Pummel Duel against the Black Baron.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Constantly has a cigarette in his mouth and is a badass.
  • Shout-Out: His "Jumping Backbreaker" is actually the Kinniku Buster from Kinnikuman
  • Would Hit a Girl: He doesn't just hit women who are fighting him, but also the Mayor's daughter when it's revealed she staged her kidnapping for her own enjoyment.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: He uses several wrestling techniques, such as powerbombs and dropkicks, to bring the pain to his enemies.

    The Black Baron
Voiced by: Reno Wilson

The Bishop of Blood and Carnage, pimps playas and pain purveyors, the Black motherfuckin' Baron (stop starin'). He appears to introduce the Bloodbath Challenges where he gets killed by his girlfriend, Mathilda & yet he somehow comes back.

  • Beware the Silly Ones: He may seem like a loudmouth without anything to back his bragging up, but he also shows up as the Final Boss, giving Jack a hard time with his brutal attacks.
  • Boxing Battler: His fighting style is this, complete with high speed footwork and ducking and weaving.
  • Blackface: Howard and Kreese imply that he’s actually wearing blackface during the Final Boss battle.
  • The Chew Toy: He seems to take all of the abuse by Mathilda and come back from it, not even being angry at her... at least on-screen.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He is the primary target of comedic abuse in this game, introducing the Bloodbath Challenges with himself as the punching bag. However, as the Final Boss, only he can inflict comedic abuse on Jack if his strongest attacks connect.
  • Final Boss: He’s the champion of Deathwatch.
  • Informed Flaw: Howard & Kreese imply that he abuses Mathilda in their dialogue once he's defeated, despite him being shown to be quite affectionate and sweet towards her, constantly referring to her with pet names like "mama" and "baby" and overall treating her less like a "ho" and more like a treasured lover due to how pleasant he is to her. He notably only gets angry at her once during the Turbinator intro, and his idea of a punishment is to threaten to "pimp smack" her, which is a surprisingly light punishment for trying (and succeeding) at murdering him, and every other time this happens, he gets simply distraught or upset during the other times she murders him to demonstrate how the BloodBath Challenge works.
  • Made of Iron: This is an understatement. He survives every single Bloodbath Challenge with no lasting injuries, and he can take a lot of punishment in the final battle, even from Jack's chainsaw.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: This guy seems like a total joke, right? He’s actually the Final Boss.
  • Pimp Duds: He wears a stereotypical pimp's outfit, complete with a snazzy cane.
  • Punched Across the Room: He can send Jack to the bleachers with his Black Hole Punch. Jack does the same to him when he wins.
  • Scary Black Man: He's presented as a stereotypical black pimp but he's the reigning champion of DeathWatch. The commentators also state that he's not actually black, suggesting he's actually a white man covered in blackout tattoos and that his performance is actually minstrelsy.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: He often gets used by Mathilda to demonstrate how Bloodbath Challenges work, but after being killed time after time, he is able to come back, none worse for wear.
  • Uncertain Doom: It’s unclear if he was even killed upon finishing him off considering his ability to come back unscathed from fatal injuries, including to the same dartboard earlier in the game.
  • Uncle Tomfoolery: He's a black pimp who constantly spits out slang, has an ostentatious grill and keeps getting murdered in death traps (played for laughs) while going "Aw hell nawh!". And he's not even black, he uses blackface.
  • Villainous Gold Tooth: His presumably gold (the game is in black and white) teeth spell out "DEATHWATCH." Though he's presented as a silly stereotypical pimp, he turns out to be the reigning champion of Death Watch and a white man using blackout tattoos as Blackface minstrelsy.

Howard "Buckshot" Holmes and Kreese Kreeley
Voiced by: Greg Proops (Howard) and John DiMaggio (Kreese)

The duo of commentators that provide the audience with hilarious color commentary as the action unfolds.

  • Action Survivor: Kreese is a former Deathwatch contestant who has stories to tell about each of the game's bosses. Evidently, the only reason he even survived to tell the tale is because the 1-up balloons Jack uses to revive himself if he dies apparently actually exist in-universe.
  • Amusing Injuries: Kreese has suffered a lot of traumatic injuries during his time as a contestant, and he will often tell Howard and the audience about his near-death experiences. His descriptions tend to be gory slapstick, making annoyed comments about his scrotum being torn open by spurs, and his testicles rolling out like "two balls of yarn. You know how fuckin' long two balls of yarn is?" Or having lost against the vampiric Elise, along with enough blood plasma to be declared legally dead for a week.
  • Angst? What Angst?: In-Universe. Kreese isn't too bothered about the time he got reincarnated as a cockroach, and possibly getting decapitated, if him bringing up a fun fact in that the insects can live up to a week without their head, something that he wouldn't know due to his Dumb Muscle personality. It's likely because this is no different than his life as a human, considering how absurdly durable he's implied to be.
  • Awful Wedded Life: None of Howard's comments about his life with his ex-wife are flattering. Their divorce was similarly quite devastating, such as his ex openly stating that Howard's brother peformed better in bed.
  • Butt-Monkey: Howard is repeatedly insulted, pushed around, mocked, and all around mistreated by Kreese, which occasionally makes it easy to forget that he's lurid in ways that sometimes disturb his co-commentator.
  • Casual Kink: Howard often mentions his frequent and weird sexual escapades, much to Kreese's disgust.
  • Combat Commentator: Both of them provide color commentary to the contest, often interjecting with witty lines reacting to whatever Jack and others are doing.
  • Cuckold: Howard, as his wife cheated on him an obscene amount of times on every other male she could get to consent.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Their every line is almost dripping with snark, especially when they pick on each other.
  • Determinator: Kreese. Surprisingly enough, given that Howard points out that he won DeathWatch in the past, combined with Kreese's numerous anecdotes about the injuries he's received at the hands of the various Killseekers that Jack faces, which definitely causes him to fall under this trope.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: As enthusiastically bloodthirsty as Kreese is, there are some comments that Howard makes that make even him uncomfortable (usually regarding his sex life and kinks).
  • Evil Cripple: According to commentary from Kreese and Howard, Kreese is unable to walk on his own and has to be fed by a nurse, and given his overall sociopathic attitude and being a former competitor and even champion of Deathwatch, he definitely fits the evil part.
  • Evil Is Cool: Kreese provides an in-universe example during the battle against Kojack:
Kreese: Kojack is just evil Jack, and evil makes everything better!
  • Extreme Omnisexual: Howard has had sex with an alien before and even an onion if his comments are anything to go by.
  • He Who Must Not Be Seen: We never learn exactly what they look like.
  • Hidden Depths: Howard is actually amazing at haiku, even Kreese will let Howard say them even though he despises Howard's puns. Howard is also a major nerd, knowing the exact definition of ironic, and lamenting how one of the daruma dolls is a "Mint, stay-in-the-box, collectible."
  • Made of Iron: Going by his comments and stories, Kreese has survived a staggering amount of injuries during his time in Deathwatch.
  • Never Learned to Read: Kreese, according to his and Howard's comments, is illiterate, tearfully blaming the education system.
  • Off Screen Moment Of Awesome: Kreese apparently won DeathWatch, something that's made even more impressive considering that he constantly brings up injuries he's sustained at the hands of other Killseekers.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Howard and Kreese appear to be on personally friendly terms with each other considering how much they bring up the other's life during their commentary.
Kreese: You, sir, are a fucking i-dee-ot!
Howard: Thank you for calling me "sir"!
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Kreese is evidently scared of robots, as he'll freak out when Howard praises Jack by comparing his prowess to a machine. It still doesn't prevent him from getting excited at the prospect of the Robot Factory, likely because of the destruction the machines can cause to the world.

Mini-Bosses

    Big Bull Crocker
The first sub-boss of Madworld, he's found in Varrigan Station. He returns in Anarchy Reigns as a playable character.
  • Ascended Extra: He's just a miniboss in this game, but winds up becoming both a boss AND a playable character in Anarchy Reigns.
  • Brutish Bulls: Invoked with his bull mask.
  • Chainsaw Good: He wields a giant chainsaw (which is actually two chainsaws chained together) and the item is unlocked for Jack to use.
  • Mythical Motifs: He's based on the Minotaur from Greek Mythology; a half-man and half-bull humanoid made famous by the tales of Theseus. His use of a gestalt "double-bladed" chainsaw is based on how Minotaurs are typically depicted as wielding a double bit axe.
  • Off with His Head!: After breaking his chainsaw, Jack will kill him by running his chainsaw through his neck and cutting his head off.
  • Promoted to Playable: He returns in the sequel as a playable character.

    Yee Fung
The sub-boss of Asian Town, he's found in Great Wall Street.
  • Acrofatic: He fights using high speed martial arts attacks when he isn't trying to spindash at Jack.
  • Animal Motif: He designs himself after a Japanese horned beetle.
  • Famed In-Story: He appears on a billboard, implying he's a successful businessman.
  • Fat Bastard: He's a fat gladiator who has killed multiple people in the DeathWatch games.
  • Me's a Crowd: He can summon mini versions of himself for Jack to fight.
  • Rolling Attack: His main attack is to curl into a ball and attack Jack.
  • Vocal Dissonance: He has a goofy, high-pitched voice despite being a very large man.

    Tengu
The sub-boss of Asian Town, he's found in the Bistro "La Lusty Geisha".
  • Me's a Crowd: He summon clones of himself and he'll hide among them to confuse Jack.

    Death Blade
The sub-boss of Mad Castle, he's found in the Courtyard.
  • Glass Cannon: He can kill Jack in one hit with his scythe, but he also goes down extremely fast.

    Big Long Driller
The sub-boss of Mad Castle, he's found in the dungeon.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: According to the commentators, he had a hand-operated drill but he had to switch it for a motorised one because his opponents kept escaping.
Howard: "Check out the drill man! He's packing some major RPMs in that thing."
Kreese: "Yeah, he used to have one of these old-timey hand drills, but his victims would never stay down long enough for him to really get drilling."
  • Cruel Elephant: Invoked with his mammoth mask.
  • Dirty Coward: He'll use his drill to escape from Jack whenever his health gets too low, only to ambush him later.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: The bonus mission for the Mad Castle Dungeon is to ram five candlesticks into his back. This is extremely difficult, as it requires you to stagger him before you can do so, the candlesticks don't respawn, and you can only impale him with one per attempt as he'll automatically escape once it's in.
  • Know When to Fold Them: When his health gets too low, he'll use his drill to escape the battle and recover.
  • Off with His Head!: After breaking his drill, Jack will kill him by running his chainsaw through his neck and cutting his head off.
  • Phallic Weapon: The commentators give his motorised drill a lot of phallic connotations.
  • This Is a Drill: He wields a motorised drill as a weapon.

Bosses

Varrigan City

    Little Eddie
Voiced by: S. Scott Bullock

"I'll murderize ya!"

The boss of Varrigan Station, Rank 198. He is an ironically-named hulking giant and childish brute who uses a ball and chain as his weapon. He comes from a family who are as humongous as he is.

  • Ass Kicks You: Eddie will often attempt to crush Jack with his behind by slamming down on him.
Howard: Looks like Little Eddie is turning the other cheek!
  • Dumb Muscle: The announcers note that he's not that smart, but at his size he doesn't need to be.
  • Epic Flail: His weapon is a spiked ball on a chain that he wildly swings around.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: Jack kills him by smashing his head into his torso with his own spiked ball.
  • Ironic Nickname: Kreese is confused when Little Eddie is wheeled out, as he doesn't get why a man who is easily twelve feet tall is called "Little". Howard has to explain the concept of irony to him. However it's arguably subverted, given that it's also stated that he's the runt of his family.
  • Made of Iron: Downplayed. He feels around for his head after Jack smashes it to goo by using Eddie's own flail against him, but shortly collapses afterwards.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Exaggerated. He acts like a toddler and a baby, as he lacks object comprehension, and can't prevent himself from drooling.
  • Shout-Out: A gigantic man being easily killed in an extremely violent way that results in his head exploding by a Stoic badass wearing a jumpsuit to demonstrate how powerful the latter character is. Hmmmm... Now where have we heard of that before?...
  • Simpleton Voice: He doesn't say much, but what he does say is in this tone of voice to reflect his Dumb Muscle status.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Little Eddie has an extremely simple pattern, is easy to put into a stunned state, and has a simple Power Struggle that can knock off a quarter of his health.

    Jude the Dude
Voiced by: Charlie Adler

"Well, howdy, rookie!"

The boss of Varrigan City Downtown, Rank 124. He is a cowboy-wannabee, Kill Seeker, and regular participant in DeathWatch who's competing for the tenth time in a row. Displaying mocking politeness to Jack, he is a violent and speedy gunslinger with roller blades on his boots and is the "brokest back in the west".

  • Ass Shove: In the beta version, Jack takes Jude's guns, shoves them up his ass, and empties them into his internal organs. This was scrapped because it was considered too much even for this game.
  • Back from the Dead: After being killed by Jack, he's implied to have become the Death Blade, due to the similar laugh and roller blades on his boots.
  • Fragile Speedster: He's one of the fastest bosses in the game, but doesn't have much muscle to back it up, relying on his roller blades and guns.
  • Gay Cowboy: It's implied by the commentators and the banners reading "Brokest Back in the West" that Jude is gay.
  • Groin Attack: During his introduction, Kreese mentions that he once fought Jude, and the cowboy kicked him in the crotch with his spurs. Kreese still has stitches from that incident.
  • Hand Cannon: He wields two particularly large long-barreled revolvers.
  • Stripped to the Bone: At the end of the fight, Jack steals his pistols and shoots all the flesh off of his skeleton before finishing him off with the last shot.

    Von Twirlenkiller
Voiced by: Fred Tatasciore

"Your life ends here."

The boss of Red Line Highway, Rank 98. He is a hulking cyborg, a possible former Nazi, and another recurring DeathWatch participant. This man is so destructive that he laid waste to New Orleans in a battle with another opponent, likely with the use of his special "gloves" that let him create mini-twisters.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Jack chops off both his arms over the course of the fight.
  • All Germans Are Nazis: He wears a military uniform from the Third Reich, speaks with a German accent, and has a German surname.
  • Blow You Away: The turbines Von Twirlenkiller has in place of hands are capable of creating massive tornadoes.
  • Cyborg: His arms are replaced by a pair of tornado generators resembling airplane jets.
  • Gas Mask, Longcoat: His outfit includes a long coat and a gas mask, seemingly to protect himself from his own attacks and oxygen deprivation.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: He's killed after Jack throws him into one of his own tornado generators, shredding him to pieces.
  • Putting on the Reich: His uniform resembles a military officer uniform during the Third Reich, which combines with his accent and German-sounding surname.
  • Shout-Out: Given MadWorld's comic book inspired artstyle, it's likely that him highly being implied to be a Nazi is a reference to the many "Nazi Supervillains" in comics created around the time of World War II.
  • Unfortunate Name: According to the commentators, Twirlenkiller means "He who farts a lot".
  • The Von Trope Family: One rather doubts there's a location in Germany that's called "Twirlenkiller", but the name is there nonetheless.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Von Twirlenkiller hits way harder than Little Eddie or Jude, only has occasional moments of vulnerability, and is the first boss where you need to win the Power Struggles to progress the fight. His arena also benefits him a lot more than his predecessors, demanding that the player quickly react in order to catch him out.

Asian Town

    RinRin
Voiced by: Kate Higgins

"I'm going to enjoy every moment."

The boss of Great Wall Street, Rank 94. A lovely-yet-vicious Asian model, she is prideful and seems to attain sexual pleasure from her kills. She returns in Anarchy Reigns with her sisters, Fei and Ai.

  • Animal Motif: Downplayed, she's compared to a spider in the boss bell text.
Like a black widow spider, she brings death with ecstasy.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Doesn't show damage as much as most of the male bosses. Her death averts this, though.
  • Combat Hand Fan: Her primary weapons are a pair of tessen.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Jack bats her into the mouth of a giant neon Yee Fung billboard, which proceeds to eat her.
  • Ms. Fanservice: RinRin has a very flattering outfit and the billboards show that she does modelling for her own brand of tea called "RinRin Tea".
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: She once fought Kreese, who described their match as "a 2-minute asskicking that left him pissing blood and spitting teeth".

    Shogun Kokushimuso
Voiced by: Roger L. Jackson

"Can you beat me, little one?"

The boss of Bistro "La Lusty Geisha", Rank 71. He is a mysterious, muscular competitor who styles himself after a Japanese shogun. He wields a giant naginata with buzz-saws on both ends.

    Yokozuna Daisangen
Voiced by: Nolan North

"Take your best shot, boy!"

The boss of Sumo Arena, Rank 53. He is an elderly yet buff sumo wrestler who, as his title suggests, has attained the highest rank in sumo.

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: The fight against Jack is a sumo wrestling match and Yokozuna uses his bare hands against Jack.
  • Charles Atlas Super Power: He doesn't wield any weapons and doesn't (seemingly) have any physically abnormal attributes like Little Eddie & Frank's massive size, or Elise and The Masters' supernatural powers, yet he's the highest ranked Killseeker in all of Asian Town, and it takes Jack launching him into a volcano to kill him, as he is completely unaffected by both being impaled by multiple sharp objects including in his skull and then electrocuted violently.
  • Death by Irony: The very Japanese Yokozuna gets killed by being launched into a volcano, something that's quite ironic considering that Japan has the second most enormous amount of volcanos on earth for such a relatively small country, only being beaten out by the U.S.A. solely due to the virtue of the latter countries sheer size.
  • Evil Old Folks: He's by far the oldest human participant in the games.
  • A Handful for an Eye: He throws salt in Jack's face during a Power Struggle.
  • Made of Iron: Somehow is able to survive being stabbed everywhere including his skull and an electrocution right afterwards. However, it turns out that he's not lava proof.
  • Meditating Under a Waterfall: He's seen meditating under a waterfall before his fight with Jack.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: He's absolutely shredded and displays a remarkable amount of strength and physical prowess, jumping high into the air to snatch a helicopter out of the sky and piledriving it into the ground.

Mad Castle

    The Shamans
Voiced by: Fred Tatasciore (Alpha Shaman)

"I smell fresh meat!"

The collective boss of Mad Castle's Courtyard, Rank 49. They are a pack of Kill Seekers who wear wolf pelts and mimic actual wolves. They are known to be very good at killing.

  • Ax-Crazy: While most of the contestants in Deathwatch are this, The Shamans are particularly savage and bloodthirsty fighters who slash and maul their opponents to death.
  • I Am a Humanitarian: The Alpha's comment of Jack being "fresh meat" and Kreese's comments during the fight reveal they are cannibals.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: They might not actually be werewolves, but between their wolf motif and the "horror movie" vibe of their stage, they're definitely intended to have this theme.
  • What a Drag: Jack finishes off the alpha by putting a collar around his neck, chaining it to his motorcycle, and riding out of the castle, the alpha being road hauled behind him the entire way.
  • Wolfpack Boss: No pun intended. The life bar is for their alpha, but Jack has to deal with the entire pack during the fight.

    Frank
Voiced by: Charlie Adler

"FRANK SMASH!"

The boss of Mad Castle Dungeon, Rank 36. He was created from dead fighters to serve as a DeathWatch contestant and has done so in the past. He is a giant who resembles Frankenstein's Monster.

  • Ass Shove: According to Howard, Frank once fought Kreese in 2007 and shoved his hand up his ass "like an adorable hand puppet".
  • Early-Bird Cameo: That's Frank's hand smashing people in the Castle Dungeon's Bloodbath Challenge.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: After being overloaded with electricity, Frank's chest explodes.
  • Dumb Muscle: Even more so than Little Eddie, who could at least form a complete sentence. Kreese remarks that he's "dumb as a box full of blondes, but stronger than shit with a punch that'll zap the ass off ya!"
  • Forehead of Doom: Naturally, due to being based off of Frankenstein's Monster.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: What gave it away? A very blatant homage to Boris Karloff's Creature.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: Jack kills him by kicking him into his electric chair and maxing out the voltage, frying him.
  • Hulk Speak: Aside from his opening line, quoted above, if you fall into the water in his arena he shouts, "NOT PLAY NICE!"
  • Informed Attribute: He's apparently a Genius Bruiser (though Kreese describes him as "dumb as a box full of blondes" in his intro), but aside from his arena featuring an electric chair which he heals himself with and a pool of water to conduct his electric attacks with, he doesn't seem that intelligent, especially since he speaks in broken English.
  • Shock and Awe: Is capable of channeling and firing electricity, and heals himself with an electric chair.
  • Shown Their Work: He's made from the toughest parts of the toughest fighters, a parallel to how Frankenstein's Monster in the original book is carefully made by his creator using only the best parts and made to deliberately be beautiful.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: His death, as Jack overloads him with more electricity than his body can handle, causing it to destroy itself in the process.
  • Tears of Blood: Sheds these as he dies.
  • Your Head Asplode: How he bites the dust, thanks to Jack overloading his body with more electricity than it can handle.

    Elise
"Do your best, child!"

The boss of Castle Sanctuary, Rank 18. She was once a normal girl who prayed in the Castle Sanctuary, but an evil bat spirit corrupted her and turned her into a vampire. Now she feeds on those who intrude in the sanctuary. She dresses very skimpily to use her sex appeal to distract male opponents.

  • Boring, but Practical: An example that works in her favor. Her fighting style consists of hiding from Jack while she sics her bats on him, something that can make her very difficult due to her being a very good hider, and the task of finding her is made even more difficult by the black & white palette the game has.
  • Boss-Only Level: As usual for the third boss of an area, although her fight is preceded by a run up to her.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Kreese and Howard won't let you ignore her giant breasts.
Howard: AWESOME rack on her, though!
    Kreese: Aw, true, dat!
  • Comedic Spanking: After destroying her wings, Jack finishes her off by putting her over his knee and giving her a thorough spanking, the final one sending her flying through the church window.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: During the Power Struggle against her, Jack yanks her arms out of the way... and then takes a long moment to ogle her assets. If you miss the Action Command, Elise takes the opportunity to bite him.
  • Hellbent For Leather: What little clothing she wears is entirely made of leather.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's the most scantily clad contestant in Deathwatch and she uses this to her advantage to distract male opponents.
  • Stripperific: She wears a leather outfit that consists of leather straps, thigh-high leather boots and leather bracers.
  • Uncertain Doom: Jack spanks her so hard that she goes flying out through a stained-glass window, but she's never actually seen dying, unlike any other boss in the game.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: If her boss description is any indication, she used to be just a frightened girl before she was turned into a vampire.
  • Vampire Bites Suck: If Jack loses the Power Struggle against her, she digs her fangs into his neck, dealing a chunk of damage and restoring her own health.
  • Vampires Are Sex Gods: Implied, her outfit shows a lot of skin and the power struggle consists of Jack being distracted by her chest after forcing her to move her arms.
  • We Win, Because You Didn't: As an undead being, it's hard to tell if she was actually killed by the fall. However, the game still treats this as a victory.

Area 66

    Kojack
Voiced by: Robin Atkin Downes

"I'm gonna fuck you up!"

The boss of the Access Hangar, Rank 11. He resembles an evil Jack Cayman and is possibly a clone. Like Jack, he wields a chainsaw and rides on his motorcycle.

  • Amoral Afrikaner: Kojack speaks with a predominant South African accent and is the 11th ranked DeathWatch participant.
  • Bullfight Boss: Kojack spends the entire fight on the back of his motorcycle and the player must ram him in order to attack.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: Jack kills him by throwing his motorcycle at him, resulting in Kojack being crushed and blown up.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Jack, which gets Kreese all giddy.
Kreese: Kojack is just evil Jack, and evil makes everything BETTER!
  • Eyepatch of Power: He has an eyepatch over his right eye, but it doesn't seem to impede his driving skills.
  • Informed Flaw: Kreese calls him an evil clone of Jack, but aside from the inherent lack of morality and humanity that would come with willingly participating in DeathWatch, which is a widely accepted thing in the MadWorld universe, and his more aggressive persona, he doesn't seem to be particularly evil.
  • Mirror Boss: He shares the exact same moveset as Jack in his boss fight.
  • Shout-Out: Considering the whole Sci-Fi theme of Area 66, the fact that Kojack possesses a goatee might be a reference to Mirror Spock from Star Trek, due one of the most common references to the series is having an Evil Counterpart of a good character possess a goatee much like Mirror Spock did.
  • Unexplained Accent: Despite being a clone of Jack, he speaks with an South African accent.

    The Masters (Thunder and Sun)
Voiced by: Nolan North (Father) and Roger Craig Smith (Son)

"For the glory of our house!"

The collective boss of the Maintenance Facility, Rank 5. They are a father-son duo with beam sabers and telekinesis, and are huge fans of sci-fi. They believe greatly in discipline and mock Jack for lacking it.

    Martin
Voiced by: Dwight Schultz

"One destructible target, found."

The boss of the Robot Factory, Rank 2. He is a little grey alien man riding a giant mech. He is a member of the Greys, aliens held in Area 66 and forced to compete in DeathWatch against their will.

  • Ambiguously Human: The commentators say that the mech is remote controlled because the pilot didn't want to fight in person. However, the pilot is one of the grey aliens on the island and it rides the missile in the final struggle. If the boss still has some health left when the pilot dies, the mech will continue fighting.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Is the grey the actual pilot? Or is it forced to fight like the others?
  • The Greys: On the screen, Martin looks like a typical "grey alien" often shown in movies.
  • Pre-Final Boss: You fight him just before Rank 1.
  • Shout-Out: To multiple Humongous Mechas and robots in general throughout various forms of media.
    • The "torso" of the machine bears a resemblance to R2-D2's head, while the rest of it resembles the overall body scheme of Johnny 5 from Short Circuit.
    • The overall configuration of the machine makes it resemble a cross between Getter-3 and the FutureTank from Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.
      • Speaking of Getter Robo, the other arm of it being a pincer might be a reference to Getter-2.
    • The groin mounted buzzsaw might be a reference to Robot Jox, due to that movie having a scene where Alex pilots a robot with a pelvis mounted chainsaw.
    • Aside from referencing robots and mecha in general, the fact that the Grey alien will ride the missile during the power struggle could be a reference to the iconic sceene in Dr. Strangelove where Major Kong rides a nuke as it fell to the ground.
  • Riding the Bomb: In the final power struggle, the pilot will disengage and ride the final missile while yelling "Fuck you!" repeatedly.

Other Characters

    Agent XIII
Voiced by: Jim Ward

A representative for one of the sponsors of Death Watch, "XIII" is so named because he represents the thirteenth sponsor of DeathWatch. He offers his sponsorship to Jack and provides him with useful information.

  • 13 Is Unlucky: Jack often comments on his number as the sign of bad luck.
  • Actually, I Am Him: He actually is the thirteenth sponsor, Lord Gesser.
  • Blood Knight: One who engages in combat vicariously rather than in person, but he admires violence almost like an art connoisseur would.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He is heavily involved in the Deathwatch games, but despises Noa and the Organizers because he feels that Deathwatch should only be used to settle disputes between countries and ideologies, not be turned into a spectator sport for gambling and a tool for a greedy pharmaceutical company.
  • He Knows About Timed Hits: His messages serve as tutorial prompts for Jack to show him the controls.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: While XIII is a sadist who takes pleasure in watching Jack cut his way through Killseekers, he's still opposed to Noa and the Organizers, a group of bio-terrorists who he considers to have perverted the Deathwatch games into meaningless bloodsports.
  • Mission Control: He contacts Jack through an earpiece to keep him focused on the contest and not stray away too much.
  • Mr. Exposition: He gives most of the information regarding the Deathwatch games...and how the current one is a perversion of what they used to stand for.
  • Noble Demon: He is by no means, a good person, but he genuinely believes in the original purpose of DeathWatch and hates seeing that it's become a spectator sport and mere entertainment rather than a legitimate way of settling disputes and avoiding mass loss of lives and resources by having two champions duke it out for the sake of their representatives ideologies.
  • Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism: As The Cynic, he scoffs at the idea of world peace, believing that conflict is inevitable as long as human nature continues to exist. But as The Idealist, he believes in the pure concept of what DeathWatch was supposed to be, as a humane way to settle conflict.

    Mathilda

The Black Baron's "ho", who often shows up along with him to demonstrate Bloodbath Challenges and put her partner through them.

  • Batter Up!: She wields a spiked baseball bat as her weapon, often bringing the pain to the Baron with it and even giving it Jack to deliver the final blow.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: She's a rather petite woman, but she can throw the Black Baron around with ease and smack him into the human dartboard with her bat.
  • Stripperific: Her attire consists of a corset, panties, thigh-high boots and bracelets, fitting her role as the "ho".
  • Supermodel Strut: She often walks in a strut that has her deliberately swaying her hips with every step.
  • The Voiceless: She doesn't utter a word during the whole game.

    Leo Fallmont (unmarked spoilers)
Voiced by: Danny Cooksey

A doctor who is saved from Killseekers by Jack in Asian Town, offering his help as Jack traverses Jefferson Island.

  • Big Bad: He's the one behind the Deathwatch game, which he organized for fun using Noa as his figurehead. His father's company made the virus to sell vaccines, and he decided to test it on Jefferson Island.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He appears to Jack as a nice Non-Action Guy who wants to help Jack in his mission to win the games, but turns out to be responsible for the virus outbreak, using Noa as a front and making profits from the Deathwatch games.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Well, he's the son of a pharmaceutical company CEO, but he seems to have as much influence over the company as his father and supplied a virus his company created to Deathwatch that allowed it to wipe out the civilians in Varrigan City, planning for the fear to drive up sales for his company selling a cure.
  • Disney Villain Death: He falls from the top of a skyscraper after Jack runs him through with a chainsaw.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: Leo, who appeared to be just an innocent survivor of Varrigan City, turns out to have been responsible for the creation of the virus that wiped the city out, not Noa.
  • For the Evulz: The reason that Leo set up the Deathwatch games despite the fact that there were probably more practical ways of advertising his family's cure is because he wanted to personally experience the games for himself.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Noa is his patsy who serves as the public face of the operations while Leo runs his business away from the island.
  • Non-Action Big Bad: Like Noa, he has no fighting skills and is killed by Jack in a cutscene shortly after the actual final battle.
  • Pretty Boy: He has boyish looks, a rarity among the citizens of Jefferson Island.
  • Walking Spoiler: A lot of information about him spoils the game's plot.
  • You Have Failed Me: He shoots Noa under the guise of rescuing Jack when Noa fails to stop Jack from winning the games.

    Noa
Voiced by: Dwight Schultz

The leader of the Organizers, a mysterious group that runs the Deathwatch contest and seems to be responsible for the Jefferson Island viral outbreak.

  • Boom, Headshot!: Leo shoots him in the back of the head once his role is done.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: He leads the Organizers and runs the Deathwatch games, providing bloody entertainment for a viewing audience while doing everything he can to reap profits. He also seems to be involved in the Fallmont company's plot to spread their Synthetic Plague and sell vaccines, likely amassing profits from that enterprise as well.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: He's seemingly the main antagonist of the game, and is Jack's primary target, but in the end it's revealed that he's only a figurehead, with Leo being the actual villain.
  • Lack of Empathy: He has no qualms about cutting Jefferson Island off from the world and unleashing a deadly virus upon its citizens, encouraging them to murder their family and neighbors to get the cure.
  • Might Makes Right: He believes that only the strong deserve to live, encouraging the residents of Jefferson Island to slaughter each other to weed out the weak.
  • Non-Action Big Bad: He is the man running the Deathwatch games, but has no fighting skills himself, leaving the actual violence to the contestants. In the ending cutscene, he attempts to have his men kill Jack, only for them to be quickly slaughtered while he gets shot by Leo.
  • Sadistic Choice: He gives one to the citizens: kill any other person or die within 24 hours of being infected.

    Amala
Voiced by: Masasa Moyo

Jack's contact in the Department of Justice, tasked with serving as his handler during his mission on the island.

  • By-the-Book Cop: Even despite the nature of the conflict, she'd prefer the villains of the game to be arrested and tried. Unfortunately, that's not how this world works.
  • The Idealist: Actually believes in the pure motives of justice and wants things handled that way.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Unaware of the full levels that the conspiracy behind the games goes to, and where influence really lies, though she is aware of more than public knowledge.
  • Mission Control: She provides Jack information concurrently with Agent XIII, but he can't hear any of their conversations.
  • Token Good Teammate: She's one of the only genuinely decent people in the entire game.
