Main Characters

    Asahi Kashiwagi

Asahi Kashiwagi

Voiced by: Ryōta Ōsaka (Japanese), Jeremy Gee (English)
The Protagonist, an ordinary high school student who suddenly finds himself being pursued by 5 bride candidates.
  • Butt-Monkey: Many of the jokes in the series come at his expense, with him either being humiliated or at the end of slapstick humor.
  • Chick Magnet: He was just an ordinary guy, but suddenly ends up having 5 girls falling for him. Justified, since they're AI simulations based on a girl who did like him.
  • Childhood Friend: He and Ai were friends ever since they were both toddlers.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: He had romantic feelings for his Childhood Friend Ai, but never acted on them before her sickness took her life.
  • Distressed Dude: In episode 5, he ends up getting kidnapping by the criminals that want revenge on Mongfa, forcing her to rescue him.
  • Heroic BSoD: After Ai's death, he became so depressed he even stopped attending school.
  • Non-Action Guy: Asahi is just a normal school boy with little fighting skills, which makes him stand out in the action-focused episode 5, where he and Mongfa have to fight off a bunch of Mooks. She tries to pretend to not know how to fight, while mostly beating the guys on her own but making it look like he did it.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: He's just an ordinary student from a well-off family.
  • Teeny Weenie: He's implied not to be very impressive down there and feels inadequate about it, especially when he compares it to Ilya's huge (fake) penis. When Mongfa sees him naked, she describes him as "adorable" and he clearly takes it as her teasing him about his size, and clutches his crotch in depression.
  • Unlucky Everydude: Asahi is perpetually forced into awkward situations by the will of the universe.
  • Unwanted Harem: At first, he's very displeased at having several different "brides" pursuing and living him all at the same time. He eventually comes around.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Him taking part in the AI experiment causes Aoi to go rogue and almost caused disaster in the real world, but he couldn't possibly predict this.

Bride Candidates

    In General
  • All Women Are Lustful: They all act perverted and sexually aggressive towards Asahi, with their acts sometimes being borderline sexual harassment. This is due to them being AI created to be romantic partners, but who don't fully understand the intricacies of human behavior.
  • Artificial Intelligence: All of them are AI taking part in an experiment meant to have AI learn how to develop romantic feelings.
  • Artificial Human: By the end of the series, they have their own artificial bodies in the real world.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: Due to them being based on Ai's consciousness, who was in love with Asahi, the experiment was much more successful in making them human-like than anyone expected.
  • Ms. Fanservice: They're all played as eye-candy in the story at different points, often being put in fanservice and perverted scenarios and providing several Male Gaze shots on their bodies.
  • Multinational Team: They're each from a different country, because each of their AIs was created in a different country.
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: By the end of the series, they evolved so much and gained artificial bodies, and act so human-like that they're indistinguishable from humans.
  • Virtual Ghost: They all have lingering feelings and memories of Ai, due to them being based on her uploaded conciousness.

    Aoi Izumizawa

Aoi Izumizawa

Voiced by: Miku Itō (Japanese), Natalie Rial (English)

Asahi's Japanese classmate and one of his potential brides.

  • The Ace: She excels at anything she tries. Justified, as she's supposed to be a definitive example of a Yamato Nadeshiko.
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Her extreme jealousy causes her to become a rogue AI.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: She wears glasses, which adds to her appeal as a sweet, soft-spoken girl (at least before she goes rogue).
  • Big Bad Friend: She's one of the brides and friends with all of them, but her jealousy and possessiveness of Asahi turns her into a Yandere and she becomes the main antagonist of the show in it's later half.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She has a sizable chest that catches Asahi's attention a couple of times.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She keeps it hidden, but she's very jealous of having to share Asahi with the other brides.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: She's a Yamato Nadeshiko archetype with fairly long hair.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her eyes start to glow red when her Yandere side starts manifesting.
  • Supreme Chef: She's a talented cook, and is in charge of making extravagant meals for Asahi and the rest of the girls.
  • Team Mom: Despite not being the oldest, she has a maternal side and often takes care of the other girls in a motherly fashion, such as handling all their cleaning and cooking.
  • Virtual Ghost: While all 5 of the girls were based on Ai's Brain Uploading, she's the most similar to Ai by far, likely due to being the first one that was created. She shares Ai's appearance, voice, and most of her personality.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Is modeled after the ideal Japanese housewife, due to her elegance, maturity, and traditional feminine housekeeping skills.
  • Yandere: Aoi goes mad for love of Asahi, and unlike her predecessor Ai, she wasn't capable of handling it. As a result she tries to trap him in the simulation, force logs off everyone else, and interferes with Yoshio/Yoshino's attempts to contact him. It takes the original Ai upload to get him out of the simulation.

    Bai Mongfa

Bai Mongfa

Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto (Japanese), Maggie Flecknoe (English)
Asahi's new homeroom teacher from China and one of his potential brides.
  • Action Girl: She's a deadly assassin, proficient in both martial arts and several types of weapons.
  • Action Girlfriend: She is a capable Action Girl whose Love Interest is a Non-Action Guy.
  • All Asians Know Martial Arts: She's the Chinese bride and an expert at tai chi martial arts.
  • Anime Chinese Girl: She is the stereotypical Chinese girl found in anime, has part of her hair in two small buns, wears a Qipao, and is proficient in martial arts.
  • Big-Breast Pride: Mongfa doesn't brag, but she's aware of the effect her large chest has on people and has a smug expression when she notices him or Amelia staring at her chest.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She's the bustiest character in the series, earning her both admiration and jealousy from others. Her chest is also constantly a focus of Male Gaze shots and Boob-Based Gag.
  • Cleavage Window: Her qipao has a cutout that exposes her generous cleavage, which Asahi catches himself staring at a couple of times.
  • Cool Big Sister: Being the oldest of the girls and a teacher, Mongfa likes to act like a cool older figure to the other girls, trying to give them advice or chiding them when they're acting out.
  • Conspicuous Gloves: She wears a pair of fingerless gloves usually associated with fighters, which is the first hint she's not just a common homeroom teacher but a secret Action Girl.
  • Covert Pervert: She sometimes discourages the perverted antics of the other girls, but is prone to act like a pervert herself, especially when she gets drunk. When she sees Asahi tied up naked in episode 5, she takes her time staring and even takes pictures.
  • The Dreaded: She has a dreadful reputation from her days as the "Bloody Tiger" assassin, although only people from the underworld are aware of it.
  • Dude Magnet: According to Yoshio, almost every boy in school, and a few of the girls have a crush on Mongfa.
  • Enthusiastic Newbie Teacher: Mongfa is a young and cheery homeroom teacher, who acts more like a Cool Big Sis to her students than an actual responsible adult.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She enjoys drinking booze whenever she can, and she becomes much more cheerful and flirty.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: She is portrayed as the most attractive of the girls, due to being the oldest, tallest, and bustiest. She even has many of the boys and girls at school crushing on her.
  • Hot Teacher: Mongfa is extremely young and attractive for a homeroom teacher, something both Asahi and Yoshio take notice of. She even wears a rather revealing qipao to school, with a Cleavage Window and slits at the side.
  • Kick Chick: Mongfa's fighting style mostly revolves around her using her legs to kick.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: She's one of the most traditionally feminine characters in the cast, and has waist-long hair.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: She's supernaturally strong, but she has a slender frame with no visible muscles.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She tends to invade people's personal space, as shown in her very first scene when she decides to sit right next to Asahi even though they're on a completely empty train. She has a habit of hugging people unprompted, especially when she's drunk, and tends to subject them to Marshmallow Hell.
  • One-Woman Army: She is such a capable fighter that she can easily kill a room full of armed Mooks using only her martial art skills.
  • Red Baron: She went by the codename "Bloody Tiger" during her time as a tai chi assassin.
  • Sexy Slit Dress: Her qipao has a slit at her side to expose her legs.
  • She-Fu: She does a lot of impressive acrobatics when she fights.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She's the tallest of the girls, taller than even Asahi, and is considered the most attractive.
  • Super-Strength: Mongfa often shows absurd feats of strength, which is due to her being a killer robot.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: At first, Mongfa doesn't perform well against the underworld boss due to being rusty, but once he threatens Asahi, she turns into an One-Woman Army.

    Amelia Irving

Amelia Irving

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amelia_irving.png
Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu (Japanese), Brittney Karbowski (English)
A transfer student from the United States and one of Asahi's potential brides.
  • A-Cup Angst: She is miffed at having an underdeveloped chest and is shown to heavily pad her bra to look bigger. She's also particularly jealous of Mongfa's buxom figure.
  • Animal-Eared Headband: Her wireless headset has a pair of cat-shaped ears.
  • Butt-Monkey: Her clumsy nature often lands her in embarrassing scenarios, such as getting her underwear stolen by a laundry bot.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She's quite clumsy and tends to get into embarrassing situations due to it, but it's played as an endearing quality.
  • Fiery Redhead: She has bright red hair and the fiery temper that is often associated with the color.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Amelia wears her hair in pigtails, befitting her girlish looks and brat attitude.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Tends to be envious of the other girl's qualities, such as Aoi's cooking skiils, Mongfa's chest size, Ilya's smarts, etc.
  • Occidental Otaku: Amelia is an American who learned kanji from hentai manga. This leads to several rounds of Cringe Comedy until Asahi buckles down and works with her on her writing skills.
  • Signature Headgear: Amelia's almost always wearing a wireless headset that doubles as an Animal-Eared Headband.
  • Tiny Tyrannical Girl: She's a small Tsundere girl with a demanding attitude and quite the temper.
  • Tsundere: Amelia has shades of this trope. Initially mad at Asahi for stealing her clothes, she slaps him. Later in the episode she apologizes after realizing that the robot responsible wasn't his fault.

    Irina/Ilya Ilyukhin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ilya_ilyukhin.png
Voiced by: Rie Takahashi (Japanese), Juliet Simmons (English)
A transfer student from Bulgaria and one of Asahi's potential brides.
  • Alliterative Name: Applies to both her male and female names Irina / Ilya Ilyukhin.
  • Bifauxnen: At first Ilya is presented as an androgynous Pretty Boy and Asahi's Gay Option, but it's revealed in episode 4 she's a girl who got Raised as the Opposite Gender.
  • Crush Blush: She's the shyest of the brides and the most prone to blushing when around Asahi.
  • Gay Option: Is present as Asahi's potential gay bride, but this gets subverted when she's revealed to be a girl who got Raised as the Opposite Gender, and starts embracing her female identity after The Reveal.
  • Hidden Buxom: She doesn't look like she has breasts at all when dressed as a boy, but she's actually fairly busty under her clothes. When she starts dressing as a girl openly, her chest becomes visible under her clothes.
  • Nice Girl: The most overtly kind and nicest of the brides, and the one that acts the least perverted around Asahi.
  • Raised as the Opposite Gender: She was raised as a boy under the orders of her father because he wanted a boy.
  • Sweet Polly Oliver: She is actually a girl dressed as a boy. After this is revealed, she starts dressing as a girl.

    Ai Izawa

Voiced by: Miku Itō (Japanese), Natalie Rial (English)
Asahi's childhood friend who passed away two years prior to the start of the story.
  • Brain Uploading: Her father developed a new mind-uploading technology, and used it to scan her brain and preserve her consciousness for his AI research before her death. It ended up becoming the base for the new advanced AI models all over the world, including the ones used for Asahi's 5 brides.
  • Childhood Friend: She and Asahi were friends ever since they were both toddlers.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: She had romantic feelings for her Childhood Friend Asahi, but never acted on them before her sickness took her life.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She appears in a dream in episode one, and in the OP. Her face is pixelated in the latter, however.
  • Hime Cut: She's an elegant upper-class girl with a hime cut.
  • Posthumous Character: She passed away due to a brain tumor two years prior to the events of the story.
  • Punny Name: Her being named Ai when the entire plot revolves around her consciousness being turned into A.I.s is not a coincidence.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: She's described as a cheerful and Nice Girl who was liked by everyone before her sudden, tragic death.
  • Walking Spoiler: Her very existence spoils The Reveal of the series, as her Brain Uploading is what created all the other AI and her death is what caused Asahi to take part in the experiment.

    Yoshio Ijūin

Yoshio Ijūin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yoshio_ijin.png
Voiced by: Jun Fukuyama (Japanese), Blake Shepard (English)

  • Best Friend: Plays the part of Asahi's best friend at school and his primary male companion, and often has scenes with Asahi so he has someone to talk to about the girls and the weird events of his life. In truth, he's just Yoshino's avatar and is playing the part in order to interact with Asahi.
  • Bromantic Foil: Plays the role of the everyday male friend to Asahi who's deeply envious of all his harem antics. It turns out that this was invoked by Yoshino, who created him specifically so Asahi would have another boy to interact with while in the simulation.
  • Butt-Monkey: He gets castrated and run over by a car, and it's all Played for Laughs.
  • G.I.R.L.: Inverted. The male Yoshio is actually AI researcher Yoshino Feynman in reality.
  • Virtual Sidekick: In truth, he's just a virtual character Yoshino created so Asahi would have a male companion to interact with within the simulation.

The scientist behind the Artificial Intelligence experiment that Asahi took part in.
  • Big Good: She's Asahi's main ally in the series.
  • Drives Like Crazy: She's extremely reckless in her motorcycle driving. Asahi can't help but scream constantly when he catches a ride with her.
  • Genius Ditz: She's a genius in her field, but is also pretty eccentric, and likes to conduct bizarre tests to perfect her AI research, which is why she got involved with Asahi in the first place.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: She's a scientist who wears a white labcoat seemingly all the time.
  • Ms. Exposition: She's the one that explains the details about the Cyberspace and Artificial Intelligence to Asahi (and thus the audience).
  • Red Herring: There are a few sinister shots of her at the start of the series, implying she's a villain, but they're misleading and she's technically the Big Good.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: She's a genius scientist and one of the few characters to wear glasses in the series.
