The second female president of the United States, Tulsi Gabbard has been forced to watch as a storm grows on the horizon, bound to inaction by a deadlocked Congress. From humble beginnings as a representative in Hawaii, Tulsi was catapulted to the national stage following her nomination as vice-president by president-elect Bernie Sanders. The American Left and Liberal center hailed the duo as champions of a new age of progressivism, while the Right bitterly accepted their inevitable victory with the Republican ticket split beyond repair by the formation of the New Republican Party. As the elections came and went, and as the transition teams worked around the clock, many people were looking forward to the "New Deal for America" that the duo had promised on the campaign trail... Progress appeared slow and steady, but everything changed on May 16th 2022, when President Sanders, in the middle of a quiet conversation with healthcare wonks, suddenly clutched his chest and fell to the floor, never to rise again.

Although many had expected that Bernie's death was on the horizon, few thought it would be so soon, not in the least Gabbard herself. In a time of grief, Americans turned to their new president for leadership for hope, hope that the "Most Progressive Candidates Since FDR" would make good on their word. They hoped that money would find its way into their pockets, that food would find its way into their stomachs, and that a roof would find its way over their heads. Instead, they watched as the 2022 midterm election campaign saw Gabbard’s Democratic Party trip and stumble over the electoral finish line, losing control of the Senate to Republicans, Old and New. While the House was nominally under Democratic control, growing dissatisfaction with President Gabbard’s incoherent direction for the party left both insurgent progressives like AOC and senior conservative Democrats like Henry Cuellar threatening defection to rival parties, and these threats eventually came to pass. With Congress effectively paralyzed, days of disappointment turned to weeks of frustration, and then to months of betrayal.

As the Gabbard Administration dragged on, the deadlock in Washington only worsened. The flow of Executive Orders to compensate for Congress’ frozen state has been staunched by a conservative Supreme Court, which numbers 8 instead of its usual 9 due to Gabbard’s inability to nominate a successor for Justice Breyer, and by unsympathetic federal circuit courts and state legislatures. Some conservative legislatures have even outright refused to enforce gun control EOs with little legislative repercussions following an unprecedented hike in the rate of mass shootings in early 2023. For nearly one and a half years by this point, the only papers on the Resolute desk from Congress were furious letters from Representatives and Senators. Desperate for a bill to pass, Gabbard has begun turning to more and more provocative measures. With simply riding out the storm no longer a viable option, Gabbard has considered invoking unprecedented executive authority to restore some semblance of power to her office...

• Historical Domain Character: Gabbard is an Alternate Timeline take on the real American politician Tulsi Gabbard. This version is portrayed as an incompetent Democratic President, a Vice-President who unexpectedly became the nation's leader after President Sanders' death. The real Gabbard became an independent in 2022.
• 0% Approval Rating: Absolutely no one in the Pre-Collapse United States likes her as she is seen as an incompetent and weak president. It is quite telling that her reelection is the reason for the Collapse.

Anarchists in Norfolk Virgina, rise up after Federal Police retreat from the city and proclaim an Anarchist Uprising seeking to liberate all of America of statism. Whether or not they will follow their Anarchist ideals should they survive in the dire times of the 2nd American Civil-War is to come.

General Tropes

• Bomb-Throwing Anarchists: Even before the Norfolk Uprising resulted in the Lion Rebellion's formation, the anarchists of America are shown to engage in violent acts of resistance against both the US government and rival communist, nationalist, and Haddockist militias. The Lion picking "People" paths on his Focus Tree will eventually guide the Rebellion to the Anarchist aspects, while picking "Army" paths commits so hard to the Bomb-Throwing that the Rebellion devolves into a realm of feudalistic warlords.
• The Extremist Was Right: During the buildup to the Norfolk Uprising, the anarchist perspective mocks the state communists for thinking "Electoralism" will bring about the revolution, and (at least in the Demo) are proven right when President Gabbard outright bans the communists from the ballot box to prevent them from syphoning off leftist voters. The "People" paths can also have them forge a functional anarcho-communist society in the aftermath of the American collapse.
• The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized: Even in the best case scenario, the American anarchists still engaged in bloody violence in the riots leading up to the Norfolk Uprising, and will still engage in it even if The Lion chooses as many "People" paths as possible - the only difference between that and the "Army" paths is allowing SOME of their enemies into the Rebellion and building a functional state that remains ideologically committed to anarcho-communist principles, or devolving into a warlord feudalism between the "anarchist" commanders while what's left of America burns down around them.
• We ARE Struggling Together: The Lion's "Army Committee" has several leaders each holding differing views of both the means to wage the revolution, and the ideal anarchist society that should be established after the revolution's end.
• Well-Intentioned Extremist: What the American anarchists broadly view themselves as, by justifying their militant violence to overthrow a capitalist-corrupted United States, and ensure its people are freed from both federal troops, and militias of opposing ideologies (such as the state communists of California, the various far-right nationalist militias, and Haddock's National-Totalitarian dictatorship).

• Ax-Crazy: The Lion's main weapon is a fire axe, and his Establishing Character Moment during the Norfolk Uprising involves beheading a National Guardsman. Picking "Army" options in his Focus Tree has these violent tendencies devolve From Bad to Worse, while picking "People" options downplays them.
• Bomb-Throwing Anarchists: His rise against the United States government involves the beheading of a member of the National Guard, and forming the Army Committee by threatening them with death if they refused. Picking "People" options on his focus tree downplays (but doesn't entirely remove) the Bomb-Throwing while emphasizing the Anarchist, while "Army" options has him devolve so far into homicidal rage that he foregoes the Anarchist aspect altogether.
• The Faceless: The Lion hides their face behind a vintage soviet PBF gasmask.
• No Indoor Voice: What his In-Game Biography and several of his lines given during events show him to have.
• One-Man Army: Can personally tear apart (quite literally) multiple enemies while shrugging off bullets, and he eventually pulls double-duty as a Field Marshal for the Lion Rebellion's army.
• Super-Soldier: Has been shown to shrug off being shot by enemy forces, and having superhuman strength. Word of God has confirmed this is because he was the only surviving test subject of Project SAINT, which successfully granted him superhuman strength, but also afflicted him with “Dimentia Sanctus” as a result.
• Well-Intentioned Extremist: The Lion Rebellion's Focus Tree represents this mechanically, with the "People" options leaning more towards Well-Intentioned, and the "Army" options leaning towards Extremist.

Fred Hirschfeld

Fred Hirschfeld became renowned among anarchists around the world for his well-publicized exploits in the defense of Rojava during the Syrian Civil War. After spending a few years with anarchist groups in Central America, he returned in 2023 to the United States (illegally, as his passport had been revoked) to participate in the next great struggle.

He enjoys almost-legendary status among the militant parts of our movement, and that stature has only grown since the start of the Riots, to which he arrived just in time for things to turn hot.

• Chronic Hero Syndrome: Hirschfeld has traveled the world to fight for anarchist causes, first in Rojava, and then in Central America, before finally returning to the US just in time to join the Norfolk Uprising and Lion Rebellion.

• Fearless Fool: His "Conspicuously Heroic" trait gives many bonuses to his units attack and organization, but he has higher odds of being wounded in action.

David Lark

David Lark, bass player and lead singer (or perhaps more accurately, screamer) for Brick Aerodynamics Institute, and veteran of the Virginian anarchist punk scene going back decades, is quite an imposing figure, and an even more imposing personality. His penchant for street battles has landed him in jail several times, and each time, he put out a new album shortly after being freed, dedicated by name to particular prison guards who he says inspired the extremely violent grindcore lyrics on each album.

He was in jail from 2007-2012 on a charge of felony malicious wounding, but upon being released, he quickly made up the ground in notoriety that he'd lost to others who had been present during the '08 riots. During the Norfolk Riots, he led from the front lines, and his gang was one of the first to start looting and using firearms from the breached Police Armory, which escalated the situation from a particularly violent street war between police and protestors to an all-out insurrection, with Federal and Commonwealth military units getting involved.

• Attack! Attack! Attack!: His "Unmatched Brutality" trait goes all-in on increasing his units attack.
• The Brute: Is a physically imposing figure (to the point only The Lion can exceed him), and is the most violent and criminal of the Army Committee's leaders.
• Metal Scream: Lark was the lead singer for the Grindcore punk band Brick Aerodynamics Institute, a role that involved a fair amount of throat-blistering metal screams.
• Not in This for Your Revolution: A villainous example, as Lark's "anarchy" is simply being an ultraviolent punk who wants to break stuff, steal shit, and kill anybody in his way.
• Rape, Pillage, and Burn: Mechanically, Lark is in charge of the Army Committee's raids upon rival territories, where his gang loots resources for the Rebellion.
• Rotten Rock & Roll: Lark is a Grindcore punk rock "singer", and he's the most openly villainous of the Lion's Army Committee, not giving two shits about anarchism beyond an excuse to riot, loot and kill.
• The Quincy Punk: A Grindcore variant, as Lark is an "anarchist" punk who only uses his position to revel in violent theft, murder, and destruction.
• Token Evil Teammate: While The Lion and the rest of the Army Committee are varying shades of morally gray at their best, Lark is little more than a jumped-up hooligan who uses "anarchy" as an excuse to engage in criminal violence.

Julian Baker

Role: General

Julian Baker is a well-respected ideologist of the current anarchist movement, who came to Norfolk from New York early in the course of the Riots and galvanized disjointed affinity groups into action. He is best known for his tireless organizing activities during the Occupy movement in 2011, and was referred to in the media at the time as "The Duke of Zuccotti Park," a title that was much-lambasted at the time, not in the least by Baker himself.

He is in part responsible for the Lion's prominence, as he was responsible for the filming of the well-known video in which the Lion delivers a speech and then kills a National Guardsman with his axe. He has hung around the Lion ever since, trying to guide him into what he believes are the most sound decisions, and on account of his often being correct, he is now on the Army Committee. Still, it seems like the Lion mistrusts him to some degree, though there is no apparent personal animosity.

• Opportunistic Bastard: Has the "Master Manipulator" trait, which has many bonuses to organizing his units (including increasing his maximum Army Group Size), and he's distrusted by most of the Committee for being a opportunist in terms of policies.
• Propaganda Machine: Runs one mechanically, promoting anarchist propaganda in the territories of the Lion Rebellion.
• Token Good Teammate: Played With, as while he is the least militant of the Army Committee, and tries to guide The Lion into making what he considers to be sound policies (especially with establishing a functional anarchist "economy" over simply looting anything not nailed down), he is distrusted by most other members of the Committee as an Opportunistic Bastard.

Andre Tyndall

Andre Tyndall is something of an oddity within the Lion Rebellion, and especially within the Army Committee. His personal history is well-known, as he was a prominent member of the Committee to Restore the Black Panther Party after the '08 collapse. However, he left the Reconstructed Black Panther Party in 2011, shortly after its official formation, and published a widely-read polemic entitled "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Towards a New Panther Politics," in which he strongly criticized the RBPP's methods, theory, and what he characterized as its fatally over-centralized organization, which he claimed was ripe for subversion by clandestine forces, just as the original Black Panther Party had been. As a result, he became something of a celebrated figure in the nascent Mao-Spontex movement throughout the middle of the 2010s, but he receded from the public eye starting around 2018.

He appears to have changed much over the intervening years, and now claims to be an Anarchist, rather than a Libertarian Maoist or Mao-Spontexer, which were both labels that he opposed during his period of popularity, but which came to describe the movement that took its cues in part from him. Many suggest his professed conversion is less than genuine, but the Lion, who is usually quick to oppose (often with extreme personal violence) anyone he sees as statist, seems to, if not exactly trust him, then at least respect him, and has taken him into his inner circle willingly.

• Defector from Decadence: Tydall left the Reconstructed Black Panthers due to its overly-centralized organization and adopted Anarchism. He has also brought several of his former comrades with him, as represented by his "Red Guardist Connections" trait.

"Mousey"

"Mousey" is the only entirely anonymous member of the Army Committee. Even his face is not known: when Anne Cartier once tried to take off his balaclava, the Lion forcibly removed her from the meeting. He is a largely unknown quantity, but the Lion trusts him implicitly, and his affinity for Andre Tyndall is clear. He arrived on the scene in Norfolk along with Tyndall after the situation in Seattle fell apart, and the Lion has welcomed him with open arms.

His expertise at asymmetrical urban warfare was proven during the Riots, when he coordinated an ad-hoc affinity group of militants to set up fortifications at the Chesapeake Bridge and lead the Federal and police forces into a shredding crossfire, which arguably broke the back of Federal power in the eastern part of the city.

• The Faceless: "Mousey" keeps both his face and identity hidden from even his closest associates.
• Stone Wall: Mousey's trait, "The Ghost of Cap Hill", massively boosts his units defensive stats, as he is an expert in building fortifications and using defensive tactics.
• The Spook: Besides some (such as Anne Cartier) suspecting Mousey of being an undercover federal agent, mechanically he is in charge of sabotage operations against the Lion Rebellion's enemies.

Anne Cartier

Anne Cartier, scion of a long line of Virginian radicals going back to the American Revolution, was a well-known figure in the Norfolk radical scene long before the Riots began. She appeared often at anarchist and anti-war demonstrations from at least 2005, and her actions during the riots associated with the 2008 collapse pushed her to some degree of prominence in radical circles.

She managed to avoid the ruthless legal reprisals enacted by City, Commonwealth and Federal authorities in the early 2010s, largely because of her much-touted "sixth sense" for police kettles and other mass-arrest tactics, but partially because she was somehow always able to prove that she had not been present whenever she was investigated in connection with riots, and any connections claimed by those who snitched in police custody were found to be entirely unsubstantiated.

• Can Always Spot a Cop: She certainly thinks Mousey is secretly an undercover fed, as she tried to rip off his mask (only relenting when The Lion himself stopped her).
• Combat Pragmatist: Anne Cartier has the "Ruthlessly Pragmatic" general trait, which gives bonuses to her unit supplies based on her organizational skills. She also uses crypto-currencies to run the Rebellion's black market, despite most leftists criticizing their use for various reasons.
• The Faceless: Downplayed, but Anne Cartier wears a red bandana over her face.
• Friend in the Black Market: Mechanically Anne Cartier runs this for the Rebellion, converting loot stolen from raids into buying supplies, arms and more.
• The Smurfette Principle: The only starting member of the Lion's Army Committee who is female.

John Brown Brigade

165 years after the Raid on Harper's Ferry by John Brown to free slaves, Military deserters and Anarchists inspired by the Lion Revolt led by Pat Tillman a soldier sent to Afghanistan who was rumored to be dead and claims that the Federal Government had a hand in his attempted assassination. Declaring the territory the Iron Front, he joins forces with the Lion Revolt to spread liberty throughout the former United States and to get his revenge on the Federal Government.

Pat Tillman

Pat Tillman, a former NFL player turned Army Ranger after 9/11, gave his life for the cause in Afghanistan. A covert assassination attempt by members of his own unit deep in the mountains left him the only survivor after he fought back against his would-be killers. Shaking with adrenaline and sickened by the futile backstabbing of men he thought he could call friends, he dropped his dogtags in the dirt, destroyed his uniform insignia, then turned and walked away for good.

After almost twenty years of life as a ghost in the mountains of Khost Province, a bogeyman the local women would make up tales about to scare their children, he has finally returned to his homeland. God only knows how he slipped in, unheard by the government that once tried to silence him. The same government that turned around and called him a hero, an inspiration, even a Corporal; endless words droned over an empty wooden box.

He's had a long time to think, up there in those hills with nothing but scraggly goats and the local Talib for company, and he thinks he knows what the world needs from him now: a banner to rally the righteous and brave. An example to live by, and to die by. A revival of Justice, in fire and glory — the restless specter of a man who never stopped struggling, even against the worms in his grave.

Pat Tillman may be dead, but his soul goes marching on.

• Alternate Self: IRL Pat Tillman died in Afghanistan in 2004 in a friendly fire incident, which some have speculated to be a covered-up murder plot. The EU timeline has Tillman the confirmed target of an assassination attempt, only to survive and eventually return to America to lead an anarchist militia.
• Defector from Decadence: As in OTL, the patriotic Tillman joined the US Army Rangers following 9/11. After surviving an assassination attempt by his fellow rangers, he became disillusioned with the American government and adopted anarchism.
• He Knows Too Much: The reason for his EU Timeline assassination was President Dick Cheney ordering several leaks regarding his more openly imperialist than OTL War On Terror silenced, with Tillman being one of the whistleblowers.

• The Dreaded: Everyone is terrified of this state and its Orwellian view on the world. It gets even worse after Haddock decides to stop abiding the Geneva Convention and makes use of nuclear warheads on major cities. In fact, the National Focus that allows Haddock to disregard the Convention comes with the warning: "PREPARE TO FIGHT EVERYONE AROUND YOU." Actually taking it gives every other American nation a Wargoal against him.
• Fascist, but Inefficient: If Haddock devotes himself to "Pure Haddockism" in his economy and cultural revolution, he creates a system that is just efficient enough to keep running, but is otherwise deliberately inefficient in order to keep technological and economic growth stagnant, so no new force could emerge to destabilize The Republic.
• Malevolent Masked Men: Besides President Haddock and Commandant Price, every member of the Republican Army and its splinter groups has their face concealed with some manner of bandana or gas mask, and they are to a ONE villainous, with the least evil (Sergeant Clarkson) still being an Opportunistic Bastard who defected to the Haddockists for power and casually calls people ableist slurs - the rest are varying shades of Ax-Crazy psychopaths who actively revel in the killing of "Divisionists".
• Meaningful Rename: Downplayed. The ultimate name of Haddock's republic, though symbolic, is determined only by the player's choice in a single event.
• Medieval Stasis: The "Pure Haddockism" economic and cultural paths make this an Enforced trope, as Haddock wishes to halt technological advancement to prevent any new forces from destabilizing his "Eternal" State.
• People's Republic of Tyranny: The Republican Union of America is an openly despotic nightmare state, and "The Republic" path only doubles-down on it by engaging in the most extreme policies of Oceania from Nineteen Eighty-Four.
• Red and Black Totalitarianism: The Republic Union's flag and its army embody this trope (although the later switch to standard camo uniforms if Sergeant Clarkson is appointed to be the Republican Army's Supreme Commander).
• Repressive, but Efficient: If the RUA sets up a proper command economy, and goes down a pragmatic cultural revolution path (Hyper-Nationalism or Neo-Romanism), every citizen in the RUA are provided with their basic needs…and get ruthlessly crushed if they step out of line.

James Haddock

James Galloway Haddock, the most dangerous man in America.

Born in 1970 to a pair of prominent lawyers, Haddock had a well educated and extremely privileged childhood. He consistently landed at the top of his classes and eventually graduated summa cum laude in Criminal Law from New York University Law School. After graduation, Haddock pursued a stellar legal career, becoming involved in his parents' high-profile law firm, and even briefly clerking for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Things were going well until his life came crashing down in the 2008 Collapse. First, his parents' legal firm slumped, and their wealthy lifestyle evaporated. Then, his mother died of a heart attack, induced, Haddock believed, by the stress of losing everything she had ever had. Outraged, Haddock personally brought lawsuit after lawsuit against the bankers and businessmen that he believed caused his mother's death. But they were consistently swept aside, shut down by the legal protection of Washington. Haddock nearly bankrupted himself before he realized the fruitlessness of his endeavor, and decided to bide his time until he could wreak vengeance against those who had wronged him like so many others.

After taking up a professorship at his alma mater, he led a distinguished but overall quiet career through the early 2010s. Behind the scenes, however, he was dipping his toes into political activism. He was briefly a card-carrying communist, until he left the CPUSA, dissatisfied with their lack of initiative and vision for the future. After a few years of political nihilism, he finally came to an epiphany, and found his driving political conviction: stability above all, and in the name of stability, the establishment of the Eternal State. Haddock set about creating his own party, the "Eagle's Spirit Party", and his silver tongue and sterling reputation saw it grow rapidly. He founded the party on the basis of anti-democratic ideals and unity in the population, but he never let on his true guiding intentions to any but his closest lieutenants...

Now, finally in control, Haddock stands triumphant over all those lesser men whose vision could not hope to equal his own. A dark shadow has fallen across the political landscape, and even now, many are unaware of just how strongly the snake has coiled around their necks.

• Amoral Attorney: Was a lawyer prior to being politically radicalized, due to the 2008 Financial Crash ruining his family's law firm, and driving himself to bankruptcy attempting to sue several Wall Street executives he blamed for it. He also acts as his own lawyer if he's defeated by the Confederation of America, to... less than favorable results.
• A Nazi by Any Other Name: Despite being Equal-Opportunity Evil when drawing upon his recruits, the rise of Haddock is disturbingly similar to that of many fascist leaders - a charismatic, pseudo-populist strongman promising to bring order and stability by force, lumping his enemies into a group of scapegoats ("Divisionists") to direct his followers anger towards, and forming paramilitaries to assault his enemies in the street. Even his former time with the CPUSA mirrors how both Benito Mussolini and Oswald Moseley initially held socialist beliefs before later shifting further right. And that's not getting into the open Red and Black Totalitarianism of his iconography, or the stormtrooper-esque uniforms of his soldiers...
• Big Bad: Is one of the most powerful warlords of the American Collapse, with Word of God stating he's meant to be the True Final Boss for any other faction attempting to reunify the United States. He's also the most openly villainous, seeking to install a totalitarian dictatorship that can survive by crushing all opposition to dust.
• Big Brother Is Watching You: Besides his more general totalitarianism, he does model himself In-Universe after 1984's Big Brother (although he's only operating on incomplete notes, due to George Orwell's death leaving the book unfinished in this timeline).

• Misaimed Fandom: In-Universe, Haddock was inspired by George Orwell's incomplete notes to Nineteen Eighty-Four - and unlike other readers who viewed it either as either a warning against the rising communist and fascist dictatorships of the early 21st century, or a parody of them akin to A Modest Proposal, he viewed the government of Oceania as a legitimate means to impose stability for eternity.

• Not So Above It All: Despite viewing the "Sons of Rome" conspiracy theory as embarrassing play-pretend, Haddock begins to genuinely enjoy playing Caesar if he goes down the RUA's Neo-Roman path.
• Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Haddock views himself as the savior of humanity, destined to create an Eternal State that will prevent humanity from destroying itself... • Trumplica: Downplayed. Haddock shares a few characteristics with Donald Trump, namely being a New Yorker who runs for President on a populist, nationalistic platform. In-Universe Haddock was inspired by Trump's 2016 campaign, and drew off many of Trump's former supporters following the collapse of his presidency.
• Villainous Breakdown: If he is defeated by the Confederation of America, Haddock acts as his own lawyer during his war crimes trial, goes on an Insane Troll Logic rant that essentially attempts to declare the Confederation's government illegitimate and himself the still-rightful ruler of America, and is either sentenced to death (where he delusionally thinks his executioners are secret supporters plotting to free him, only to Face Death with Despair when he realizes he's actually being lethally injected), or committed to an insane asylum (where he scribbles unintelligible lawsuits, and screams about his jailors putting pills into his tater tots - with the reaction text correcting him to saying they're in his meatloaf instead).

Nick Turner, better known as his alias Erasmus, is one of Haddock’s oldest allies. Since then, Erasmus has served as one of Haddock’s most trusted political operators and advisors, using his knowledge of the activist scene to make alliances and spread the ESP’s influence. One of the first Americans to follow Haddock, Erasmus commanded the Iron Corps before Price.

After Haddock left the party, Jupiter would stay in the communist camp for several more years, before splintering off, believing that political parties were ultimately ineffective. Although distancing himself from politics, Jupiter’s contacts with Haddock proved to be fortuitous. Haddock began contracting Jupiter for wetwork, to great success. While Jupiter was never an official ESP member before the revolt, he was quickly invited into our government for his known trustworthiness, competency, and knowledge of guerilla operations.

What is known about his background is that he was an engineer in the New York National Guard, he has an extensive knowledge of logistics, and he designed the GUARD uniforms (inspired by the film Jin-Roh.) While many suspected at first that he was a Federal agent, his loyalty, competence, and aid in aligning the New York National Guard has eased those fears.

Dallas Price is a legend in the shadowy world of freelance ‘operators’. His earliest known history was in the US military during the Gulf War. After the Soviet intervention in ‘95, Price left the military to join an up-and-coming PMC called Blackwater. From ‘01-’07 he worked in Iraq and Afghanistan, before ‘retiring’ to become a freelance agent. He’d take any kind of job he could: security work, smuggling, assassinations. He served a dozen different causes: communist, liberal, islamist, corporate, fascist, whoever could provide him with pay and people to hurt. However, Price’s luck would seem to run out in 2011, after he was hired on as part of the USA’s INTERVOL program to stabilize Europe. Price became involved in arms smuggling, which led to a clash with several European dealers. This culminated in a mass shooting in Amsterdam against several rival dealers, which was linked back to Price. Faced with charges of conspiracy to commit a terrorist act, it seemed like Dallas would spend the rest of his life in a jail cell. Until a lawyer named James Haddock intervened in his case. Surreptitiously providing legal assistance to Price, Haddock managed to get the charges dropped. In exchange, Price began doing wetwork for the burgeoning Eagles Spirit Party. Although initially kept at arm's length, Erasmus’s failures in commanding the Iron Corps prompted Haddock to take a chance by putting Price in command. The Commandant’s spectacular performance in commanding the IC/GUARD has brought him much influence within the ESP. He now serves as Haddock’s right-hand man, commanding the GUARD squads that patrol the streets and hunt down threats to the Republic. However, Haddock is beginning to worry about Price’s influence. An enthusiastic psychopath, Price enjoys holding power over others, and it’s likely that he’s already making plays in the shadows. Even more worrying, the Commandant has requested the GUARD be issued tactical nukes.

‘Hercules’ is well named. A massive man, he stands in at 6’7, with the muscles to back it up. Before The Collapse he was Ralph Cisco, a fitness instructor and Tik Tok influencer who became enamored with the Iron Corps and their fight against ‘degeneracy’. Cisco would begin to attend Iron Corps rallies, becoming a frontline fighter against both anarchist and neo-Nazi. After the Iron Corps was dissolved, Cisco transferred to the GUARD, where his service history landed him a commanding role. This is around the time when he fully adopted the moniker ‘Hercules’. A veteran of the struggle, Hercules is fanatically loyal to the GUARD and the RUA. While his combat tactics tend to be crude, he makes up for it in sheer force and battlefield charisma. "

The man who would get the cops back on the streets, the criminals back in their cells, and the corruption out of government. As soon as the GUARD began infiltrating police precincts, Johnston was there to assist. Thanks to his efforts, the Albany PD handed the city over to Haddock before swearing loyalty to the RUA. For his efforts, Johnston would be promoted to GUAR Dian, taking on the codename ‘Kosmos’. One of the GUAR Ds most disciplined members, Kosmos is happy to finally be able to clean up the streets."

For a while he acted as a double agent, feeding information to the GUARD while falsifying reports to his superiors. After the Norfolk riots he went dark for a period, only to pop back up as one of the Black Legion’s militia commanders. Although he assisted with the March for Union, his allegiance to the Legion was only temporary. As soon as he could he reached out to the GUARD, offering them a large cache of information on Federal assists in Republican territory. Ever since he has loyally served as a general, bringing his knowledge of counterterrorism to GUARD operations. "

The Black Legion

The Black Legion emerged during the initial collapse, as groups of pro-Haddock militias, opportunistic criminals, and Sons of Rome conspiracy theorists banded together to secure territory for Haddock and purge divisionists. Haddock, sensing an opportunity, placed the group under the command of Prefect Furvus and unleashed them on the Atlantic Seaboard. In the 'March for Union', the Black Legion posed as roving bands of unaffiliated anarchists, gangsters, and militias who swept through the poorly defended areas, attacking vital infrastructure and remaining pre-collapse government institutions. And then the openly Haddockist GUARD were sent in their wake to provide assistance to survivors and establish Haddock's authority. The March for Union proved a success, and Haddock decided to keep the Black legion around as state-sponsored boogymen. A decision which infuriates Price, who views the Legion as bumbling lunatics (and suspects that Haddock plans to use them to replace the GUARD).

The most charitable way to describe Furvus would be ‘wild card’. The more accurate way would be ‘goddamn lunatic’. Broken out of federal prison during the earliest days of the Black Legion, Furvus quickly made a name for himself based on his low cunning, brutality, and psychotic devotion to destroying anything he deems ‘Divisionist’. Now in command of the Black Legion, this bundle of rage and mania has been tasked with rooting out any and all divisionist elements. What Furvus deems divisionist is based on a mixture of Haddock’s actual commands and his own delusions. For now, these two align well enough.

Vinny Wheezer, aka ‘Legionary Hyperion’, is one of the more prominent Sons of Rome remnants. Originally the host of a minor conspiracy Youtube channel, Wheezer was among the first to make the Haddock/Club of Rome connection. Convinced that the rebirth of glorious Rome was at hand, he adopted the moniker ‘Centurion Hyperion’ and became a fixture at Haddockist rallies. Much of his conspiratorial beliefs filtered into the early Legion, and even now he is regarded as the ‘spiritual head’ of the Black Legion. While Furvus has no interest in the Sons of Rome angle, he does recognize the sway Hyperion has over the Legion…and Hyperions own gullibility. Hyperion isn’t a great tactical thinker, but his demagoguery and experience with speaking to an audience gives him skill at leading men into battle.

The name started as a joke, obviously. Or at least, a slightly amusing nickname. Mother Anarchy has been deep within the Seattle activist milieu for a couple of decades, and people started calling her variations on "protest mom" way back before '08. "Mother Anarchy" had to wait for internet leftism to mature before it could come into its own as a pseudonym. By the time of the 2016 election, it had stuck, and it became inseparable from her protest organizing.

When Seattle plunged into an ecstatic insurrection in early 2017, defying flawed democracy and the new authoritarian in the White House, Mother Anarchy found herself suddenly within a militant stronghold in Seattle's Capitol Hill district as the barricades went up and a large number of police were trapped within their own precinct. Soon enough, though, the surprised elation of the occupiers turned to panic as Federalized National Guard units swarmed the city and breached Free Cap Hill's barricades with extreme violence, harrying the protestors out into the waiting kettles of the police, and the waiting vans of the Department of Homeland Security. Mother Anarchy was unlucky enough to find herself in one of the latter.

It was weeks before she saw the light of day again. DHS policy was to hold each prisoner on the thinnest thread of habeas corpus they could manage in order to maximize imprisonment time, and while those tactics would later lead to two fruitless impeachments of President Trump, for Mother Anarchy, they punctuated a valuable lesson about the need to defend with more than just barricades - guns, certainly - but preparation and organization above all, because the enemy will always have more guns than you, if you're fighting on the right side.

After the eerily-familiar failure of the 2nd Seattle Uprising, and many long months of resisting the Communists' restrictive rule, Mother Anarchy has stood up once more, ready for the next round in Seattle's protracted war for freedom.

Big Pete never really meant to get this big. Sometimes, though, you do what you have to do, and suddenly you find that you have to do more. It was like that for Pete when this all started, when his friends and neighbors suddenly felt scared and exposed under that big sky, now full of jets screaming out West from over the hills. The people who came through town didn't seem so nice anymore, and the state troopers got downright mean.

When Pete stepped up and took charge of defense, he wasn't really thinking about the implications. He'd never held power over another man in his whole long life, and he liked it that way. But, you take up arms and defend your neighbors, and then what? Wait for someone meaner than you to come around and try to wreck it all? Pete's never been the waiting type.

So, Pete and his group left the ranch, and took to the lonely roads of Eastern Montana, doing what was right. People kept joining in and looking to him, and it kept escalating. One day, they passed some people who'd come down from Helena, saying the state government wasn't going to be around much longer. That the Army was coming up from Denver on their way into Idaho, and they were going to roll over Montana and put it under martial law. So, he had to deal with that.

It's been mostly a blur since then. Lots of people, places, lots of things to shoot at. Hopefully he's doing alright by everyone. Pete used to be a big thinker when he was younger, thought he had it all figured out, that he was ready to take down the system singlehandedly. Now that he's actually doing it, it's a lot less simple than it used to seem. Still, he knows right from wrong. Big Pete'll never let anyone hand him their chains, no matter how easy it might be.
