School Year: Middle School 3rd Year
Voiced by: Gakuto Kajiwara
Room no.: 101note

  • Big Eater: Loves to eat and is capable of eating a lot.
    • Part of the reason why he's this is because prior to entering Sheep Manor, he only got 1 meal a day in his old performing troupe, and he would be starved by his 'masters' if he showed anger.

  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Is deathly afraid of cages. Chapter 7 reveals that when he was part of a performing troupe, his 'masters' would throw him in a cold and dark cage and starve him if he ever got angry. This is also why he's unable to express anger, but he eventually manages to overcome it.

Étoile

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/team_logo_etoile.png
Image Color: Blue/White
Signature Genre: Ballet

  • The Ace: Currently the best team in Benizuru Academy.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Despite being the resident Alpha Bitch in Benizuru Academy (as well as Noel and Kei constantly putting Akira down), the three of them do care for each other.
  • Ballet: Their signature dance genre.
  • The Beautiful Elite: Good-looking, rich, have families in powerful positions and the top Dankira team in Benizuru Academy.
  • Bilingual Bonus: This group's name means "star" in French and "the lead ballet dancer in a company" in English.
  • Color-Coded Characters:
    • Noel - White
    • Akira - Gold
    • Kei - Blue
  • Gratuitous French: While going undercover in spying on Rentaro in his game during the latter's default 5-star card story, the team uses French usernames. Noel is 'ange' (angel, his nickname), Akira is 'le chien' (dog, in reference to his pet, Lausanne), and Kei is 'luciole' (firefly, the insect he's named after).
  • Hidden Depths: All of them play games with Rentaro every now and then since the events in Rentaro's defaualt 5-star card story.
  • Princely Young Man: Considering their genre, their status and their fashion, it's natural that they give off this impression.
  • The Rich Have White Stuff: Rich and influential, with dance uniforms designed in mainly white to reflect this.
  • The Rival: Serves as this to a lot of teams, especially Merry Panic.
  • Rock Theme Naming: Members of this team are named after precious stones.
    Noel Gekkōin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_gekkoin_modal.png
Bloody hell! Those dratted pigs… I'll exterminate them at once.
School Year: Middle School 3rd Year

  • Classy Cravat: Part of his dance uniform.
  • Did Not Do the Bloody Research: Again, bloody hell, though this is a deal lighter than other stereotypical British vulgarities like wanker or sod off.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: At least that's what Mahiru thinks. His 'demon' side is just his foul language.
  • Gratuitous English: Being half-British, he's the primary source of this.
  • The Leader: Of Étoile.
  • Lethal Chef: Downplayed, but Sora didn't take to Noel's stargazy pie due to the number of bones left in the fish in Shiki's manga chapter.
  • Omniglot: Is apparently fluent in Japanese, English and French, though this comes off as an Informed Ability since he's never heard speaking in full sentences or anything more than the occasional words and interjections in English and never heard speaking French at all.
  • Overly Long Name: His full name as revealed in Shiki's manga chapter is Noel White Lavi Damian Gabriel Elliot Gekkoin.
  • Quintessential British Gentleman: Subverted, he gives off this impression and has interests typical of this archetype, like afternoon tea, but is very foul-mouthed and has a hefty Alpha Bitch attitude.
  • Rock Theme Naming: He's named after the moonstone, known as getchōseki 月長石 in Japanese.
  • Signature Move: Getting his default 5-star card unlocks his unique Killer Trick, 'Crescent Moon Classic'.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: His Gratuitous English includes profanities. Bloody hell, anyone?
  • Western Zodiac: Sagittarius (December 11).
  • Young and in Charge: The shortest and youngest of Étoile, but is their leader.

    Akira Shidō
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_shido_modal.png
Kei and I, the "Strongest Childhood Friend Duo", are gonna catch you all in one fell swoop!
School Year: High School 1st Year
Room no.: 207note

  • Butt-Monkey: If Étoile's part of the slapstick, Akira's usually on the receiving end of it.
  • Childhood Friends: With Kei.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Owns a huge dog named Lausanne - unfortunately for Kento, while he hates dogs, Lausanne loves him.
  • Meaningful Name: His first name is synonymous with the Japanese word for 'light', tying in with his nickname of 'the White Knight'.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Genderflipped, but he does have one.
  • Red Baron: Is known as 'The White Knight'.
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense
  • Rock Theme Naming: He's named after the amethyst; in fact, his name is only one kanji away from the name of that stone (murasaki suishō 紫水晶).
  • Signature Move: Getting his default 5-star card unlocks his unique Killer Trick, 'Fabulous Akira'.
  • Token Good Teammate: Out of the members in Étoile, he's the only one willing to socialise with other characters below his social status. He also happily invites the coach to a session at 'Salon de Akira' personally in order to get to know them better.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Him and Kei with Soma. Some time ago, they dominated Benizuru Academy as a team called 'Kingdom'. But due to unknown circumstances, Kingdom fell apart, with Soma leaving the team to form Theater Bell while it took a while (and a 100-team marathon match) for Akira and Kei to form Etoile with Noel. It's unknown, however, how Akira views Soma in the present.
  • Western Zodiac: Aquarius (February 17).
    Kei Kagemiya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_kagemiya_modal.png
Akira, you're one funny guy. Sleeptalking means talking in your sleep, you know?
Year: High School 1st Year
Room no.: 206note

  • Alliterative Name: Kei Kagemiya.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Is very good with analysis, so he's often called upon by Seito to investigate any happenings going on in Goldheim Dorm. Much to Oboro's horror, he's also come close to deducing the secret identity of Blacktail.

  • Childhood Friends: With Akira.
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Family Theme Naming: Insects, with his grandfather Kabuto.
  • The Gadfly: He sometimes likes to tease others, with Nozomu on the receiving end most of the time.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Has a way with words and isn't afraid to use it to get what he wants with others. Case in point: at one point, he tricked Tsukumo into caring for three kittens while he searched for people to adopt them by placing them in a empty protein box. His smile in here is the icing on the cake.
    • This gets turned on him during Haunted Heaven ♡ TRICK or DANKIRA, where he ends up going along with Mahiru's whims by taking part in the Halloween event in the shopping district despite his protests; they eventually agree that Kei will take part, but only if Mahiru promises to delete every single picture he took of him during the event, backups included.
  • Meaningful Name: His last name contains the word for 'shadow', which comes into play with his nickname of 'The Black Knight'.
  • Neat Freak: Is obsessed with cleanliness and hygiene, to the point where he brings his own cleaning tools to school. He's also sometimes seen cleaning other people's dorm rooms and even calls Reiji 'pure' for using newspaper to clean the windows in a Dankira Bitesize Rough Sketch, with him using a portable cleaner. This leads to a conflict with Shiki, whose side of their dorm room is very messy.
  • Red Baron: Is known as 'The Black Knight'.
  • Rock Theme Naming: He's named after the fluorite, known as hotaruishi 蛍石 (firefly stone).
  • Signature Laugh: "Kukuku..." and variants.
  • Signature Move: Getting his default 5-star card unlocks his unique Killer Trick, 'Black Cyclone'.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Him and Akira with Soma. While Soma doesn't have any hard feelings about it and even asks Kei to hold a joint birthday party with him, Kei... not so much.
  • Western Zodiac: Cancer (June 27).

  • Signature Move: Getting his default 5-star card unlocks his unique Killer Trick, 'Fruits Fragrance'.
  • Terrible Artist: As much as he's good in dance, during his and Nozomu's Soul Link story the both of them decide to draw each other. After comparing each other's drawings, the only thing they could think of is a Flat "What".
Soma and Nozomu: "What is this drawing..."
  • We Used to Be Friends: With Akira and Kei of Etoile. Soma doesn't have any hard feelings against the other two, though and still considers them his friends... somewhat.

  • Large Ham
  • The Leader: Of Sanzensekai.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Named after famous historical figures to go with his Japanese Spirit image: the Genji and Tokugawa Mitsukuni.
  • Nice Guy: In Sanzensekai's chapter, he goes out of his way to ensure that Yukari can continue to compose Dankira works and participate in Dankira matches at the same time. While he also finds out about Oboro's secret activities, he decides, out of respect, to keep that fact to himself and not bring it up, presumably until Oboro is ready to talk about it himself.
  • No Indoor Voice
  • Samurai: His entire being screams this archetype; not only is he Japanese Spirit extraordinaire, he's also a shihan (instructor) level martial artist and trained in calligraphy.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: He eventually finds out that Blacktail, the hero Yukari admires, is actually Oboro. However, he decides not to ask Oboro about it and keeps it to himself out of respect for his teammate.

  • Clark Kenting: His 'Blacktail' superhero costume is just his Dankira costume but with the scarf covering his mouth.
  • The Eeyore: Due to a history with bullying, he has a very bleak outlook on life, a perpetually pessimistic attitude and not a very high opinion of himself.
  • Japanese Spirit: He represents Type 1 – koyū (natural talent). He is very pessimistic and has low confidence, but displays amazing feats of coordination and stunt.

TOXIC

    In General
Image Color: Purple
Signature Genre: Vouge

  • Animal Motifs/Animal Theme Naming: Members of this group are named/styled after venomous animals.
  • Color-Coded Characters:
    • Shiki - Purple
    • Ageha - Cerise
    • Tsukumo - Brown
  • The Fashionista: Being people who work in high fashion, naturally they are this.
  • Leitmotif: Karamitsuku Doku wa Utsukushiki Senritsu.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Easily rivals Theater Bell for the title of "sexiest unit", but with a key difference – while TheaBell is classy and subtle, this group is daring, camp and heavy on the Stripperiffic.
  • No Dress Code: While Non-Uniform Uniform is Truth in Television in Japanese schools, the alterations these guys made to their school uniforms would get them suspended at best in real life: Shiki wears a gratuitously cut-up shirt underneath his blazer, Ageha wears a midriff-baring shirt under theirs, and Tsukumo straight-up goes shirtless under his.
  • Stripperiffic: Have the skimpiest default dance uniforms out of all the groups, with those outfits designed and cut in ways that make them belong more in a burlesque club than a high-school street dance team.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: All three's dance uniforms are so ridiculously revealing they may as well be this.
    Shiki Janome
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_janome_modal.png
Nfufu… I've created an outfit based on your image.
School Year: High School 1st Year
Voiced by: Daisuke Hirakawa
Room no.: 206note

  • Eye Am Watching You: His unique Soul Link Killer Trick, Watching You. A giant snake apparition is summoned behind him as he charges at and startles his target, then he stands back and does this gesture while the target shrinks in fear.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Several years ago, Shiki met a young Sora in a performing troupe. Seeing his wild emotions caused Shiki to develop a lot of inspiration for his designs, and become obsessed with him. But when they meet in Benizuru Academy again not only does Sora forget about the meeting, Shiki laments that Sora staying in Sheep Manor afterwards caused him to 'go soft'. He's still bitter about it to this day.
  • Formal Characters Use Keigo: His speech is very polite, meant to accentuate his mysterious image.
  • Grade-School C.E.O.: 16 at the oldest, yet has founded and is running a fashion brand, plus is the employer of two upperclassmen.
  • The Leader: Of TOXIC. He's Ageha and Tsukumo's boss in Jorgumand.
  • Signature Move: Getting his default 5-star card unlocks his unique Killer Trick, 'Coordinate'.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Is obsessed with Sora, and only Sora. This freaks out Reiji and Mahiru easily.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Is... obsessed with Sora. This worries Reiji and Mahiru. A lot.
  • Teen Genius: The fact he's a professional fashion designer and runs a fashion house can make you forget he's a high school freshman (15-16 yrs old).
  • Trash of the Titans: Messy doesn't even describe the state of his side of his dorm room. Because of his tendency to grab the nearest surface to draw whenever he gets a spark of inspiration, his room is cluttered with papers. To make matters worse for him, his roommate is known Neat Freak Kei.
  • Western Zodiac: Aries (April 12).
  • White Hair, Black Heart: While not a villain, he carries an unsettling and creepy air about him while also having white hair.
  • Yandere: Of the non-harmful kind, to Sora. Much to Reiji and Mahiru's horror.
  • Young and in Charge: Is the youngest in his group, but is the leader.

Room no.: 202note

  • Animal Motifs/Animal Theme Naming: Butterflies, seen in their Dankira costume. Their name even uses the kanji for the Swallowtail Butterfly.
    • This is part of the reason why Ageha wants to befriend Kei - since Ageha means Swallowtail Butterfly, and Kei means Firefly, the both of them would form a 'Insect Pair'.
  • Disappeared Dad
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The 'Sensitive Guy' to Tsukumo's 'Manly Man'.
  • Signature Move: Getting their default 5-star card unlocks their unique Killer Trick, 'Large Blooming Flower'.
  • The Smurfette Principle: They are not a girl, but they're the only character aside from the coach to have a different gender identity among a cast of confirmed male characters. They certainly look the part too.

  • Animal Motifs/Animal Theme Naming: Spiders, if the spiderweb on his Dankira costume is anything to go by. His first name is also a play on the word for "spider".
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Him with his sister Nazuna - even though they bicker a lot, he's shown to care for her just as much. In fact, on White Day, he claims that the gift was 'just for his sister'.
    • Similarly, despite picking fights with Ageha, he does show some concern for them.
  • Big Eater: Is capable of polishing an entire pot of Japanese curry and still ask for more.
  • Embarrassing Last Name: Busujima is a legitimate Japanese surname, but too bad the busu part sounds a bit too close to a word that means "hideous". Naturally, Ageha does not let him get away with this.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Obusunote , courtesy of Ageha.
  • Massively Numbered Siblings: He has a lot of siblings, with him as the oldest.
  • Odd Friendship: With Reiji, in the manga. Tsukumo values strength and is a Jerk Jock (at least at first), while Reiji is a nerd. Tsukumo ultimately helps Reiji when the latter argued with Mahiru earlier on in Reiji's manga chapter and invites him to work out with him, and even finished the entire pot of curry Reiji cooked in a Dankira Bitesize Rough Sketch.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The 'Manly Man' to Ageha's 'Sensitive Guy'.
  • Signature Move: Getting his default 5-star card unlocks his unique Killer Trick, 'Human Koinobori'.

  • Butt-Monkey: Constantly on the losing end of Dankira matches.
    • During the 'Special Dankira' which does not consume your energy, you face off against them on Easy no matter your work and team. Since they're all 1-star cards with only the basic Killer Tricks, they'll be on the receiving end of a Curb-Stomp Battle against the player team, especially if the player uses 5-star cards and golden Killer Tricks.
    • After the game goes offline, they'll always be the Dankira opponent regardless of work and difficulty, making them this trope till the very end.
  • Colourful Theme Naming: They're named after the color scheme each of them is dressed in: Aoshi (blue), Akashi (red) and Kitarō (yellow). Additionally, they're named and styled after the traffic signal, hence the colors and the name.
  • Only Six Faces: They're basically three recolored copies of the same 3D model.
  • Punny Name: Their surname is Shingō, homophonous with shingō meaning "signal", thus Signal Brothers.
  • Same-Sex Triplets: Their birthdate is unknown, but they certainly give off this impression.
  • Starter Villain: They're the Dankira team you face in the tutorial.
  • Those Two Guys: Three of them but they hardly appear on their own.
    Billy Omori
The owner of Billy's Burgers, a fast food restaurant located in the shopping district where Sora and Kento frequent numerous times. Rumour has it that he's strong in Dankira, and if one manages to beat him in a match he'll reward the victor with a year's supply of burgers at his place... or so they say.
  • Acrofatic: He's pudgy but rumours have it that he's excellent at Dankira.
  • The Reveal: Reveals himself to be the owner of Billy's Burgers to Merry Panic and Sanzensekai when beforehand they just assumed him to be a regular old man.
  • Stealth Mentor: To Merry Panic and Sanzensekai in Chapter 7 of the main story.
