YMMV / Dankira!!! -Boys, be DANCING!-

Go To

  • Cliché Storm: The songs are not very original in lyrical content – fairly generic lyrics about optimism, friendship, having fun, plus the occasional love song, though this can be excused by virtue of the focus's being on the dance and not the music.
    • The game's story itself is extremely clichéd: a group of students competing in some kind of activity and becoming best friends, with a largely male cast and Ho Yay galore. Just replace the "sports" in any typical sports manga ever with dance. Add to that the "non-entity player character manages a cast of good-looking men" premise already done by Touken Ranbu, I-Chu, IDOLiSH7 among others, and it's safe to assume this game is not the most imaginative out there.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With On Air!, due to both games focusing on niche topicsnote  in larger genres. It also helps that half of Dankira's cast is also in On Air.
  • Funny Moments: In the offline version, lines of each dancer imitating another were added as additional Soul Link rewards. Seeing various characters imitate other characters? Comedy gold.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • Ho Yay: Where do we begin...?
    • For starters, any 2-member Killer Tricks (such as Mahiru's 'Daydream') and certain 3-member Killer Tricks are capable of providing shipping fuel between the characters - in the case of the latter variety, the 3rd member can act as a Shipper on Deck.
    • During the Dankira quiz featured on the game's twitter page, one of the questions asked which of the following pairsnote  has slept in the same bed since childhood. The answer? All of them. While it's understandable for Reiji and Mahirunote , Seito and Kentonote  as well as Mitsukuni and Oboronote , the fact that Kei and Akira have done it as well makes the mind wonder...
Tsukumo: Ya wouldn't think that clean freak Kagemiya would sleep with anyone, huh... and with Shido of all people.
    • For the first anniversary, Gangle Studios, which provided character art for Sanzensekai, TOXIC and B.M.C drew this art to celebrate. Oboro's face in particular has him with spiral eyes and blushing while sandwiched inbetween Tsukumo and Ginko...
    • Due to how the Soul Link mechanic works, there will always be shipping fuel for every pair imaginable in their respective Soul Link stories. Even the ones that don't necessarily get along with each other.
    • During Ageha's manga chapter, they're seen pole dancing with Soma. Merry Panic's expressions don't help one bit...
    • A subset of shippers ship roommates together, Noel × Yukari being the most common.
  • It's Easy, So It Sucks!: A common complaint among players is that the beatmaps are too easy, even when on Hard difficulty and during the opponent's Killer Trick leading to lesser points gained, especially during events. Newer songs seem to be averting this, however.
  • Narm Charm: The way dance is treated as if it's sports and absolute Serious Business to the point where it has its own origin lore and world-class master title in this universe can be quite hilarious, but arguably it's what draws people to this premise.
  • No Yay: Any pairing involving Yukari as well as the pairing of Seito/Kento is a definite 'No' in international fanbases for obvious reasons.
  • Periphery Demographic: Predictably attracts a Yaoi Fangirl fanbase.
  • Play the Game, Skip the Story: Clichéd plot, characterizations you've seen about a billion times, perhaps the gameplay and the well-choreographed dance sequences are the only things enjoyable about this game.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: Inevitably comes with the rampant Ho Yay, which includes ShikiSora, NoeYuka, SeiSō and MitsuObo among others.
  • Tearjerker:
    • In Kento's chapter in the manga, he dreams of B.M.C participating in the game's events prior to their in-game debut. It's very sweet and endearing... unless you read it with the knowledge of Dankira's service closure and switch to offline mode.
    • Fridge Tearjerker begins to set in when one realizes the cast contains high school seniors. No matter how close they become throughout the story, some members of those True Companions will leave them very soon when the school year ends as they graduate and/or go to university. Hell, the fact cast members are spread among different ages and different school years is sad enough on its own – the dance groups, no exceptions since no groups have all members be in the same school year, and the entire ensemble will be broken apart one by one as the members leave school.
  • That One Level: AVENGER'S ROAR on Hard difficulty, a fast-paced Heavy Metal song with a number of easily missable notes.
    • Also of note are the 4 pop'n music songs. Not only are their tempo a lot faster than the works, on Hard, the difficulty is at double digits - the free song Rin to shite saku hana no gotoku alone is at difficulty level 11 on Hard. They even have combos stretching up to more than 300!
  • Toy Ship: Any ship whose all participants are in middle school, case in point the fairly popular Noel × Yukari (keep in mind the latter is 12; make of this what you will).
