Location: Magenta's House, School
Voiced by: Koyalee Chanda (original), Diane Salema (reboot)
Series: 2 (Blue's Clues & Blue's Clues & You!)
Episodes: ???
Movies: 2

Blue's best friend. Another puppy, who lives nearby.

——
  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Starts wearing purple glasses beginning with season three's "Magenta Gets Glasses". In the reboot, she gets them as early as season one's "Getting Glasses with Magenta".
  • Advertised Extra: While she appears on most merchandise made for the original series, she usually would only appear a few times a season. Averted with the reboot, where she appears much more frequently.
  • The Ageless: Like Blue, she has remained a Puppy since her owner Miranda's childhood.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Is a purplish-pinkish dog.
  • Ascended Extra: Has more frequent appearances in the reboot, even having her own version of Blue's Clues called "Magenta's Clues' and her backstory expanded by her owner Miranda.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: An adorable puppy who begins wearing glasses in the third season (and late in the first season in the reboot).
  • Canine Companion: She is a dog and her owner Miranda's best friend.
  • Canine Confusion: Like Blue, Magenta can eat chocolate and chocolate-based products despite being a dog.
  • Cartoon Creature: Just like Blue, she seems to be an ambiguous-looking breed of dog.
  • Cartoon Dog Breed: Seems to be the same ambiguous breed as Blue, just pink (well, magenta) instead of blue.
  • Cheery Pink: A cheerful magenta puppy.
  • Color Character: Just like Blue, she is named after her colour.
  • Color Motif: Besides obviously Magenta, she is also associated with the color purple.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: At times she is shown to be a bit clumsy, sometimes causing problems by accident, but everyone is always quite understanding towards her.
  • A Day in the Limelight: She has a main role in the episode "Magenta Gets Glasses", and its remake, "Getting Glasses With Magenta". The remake even has her joining Blue leaving clues, calling it "Blue and Magenta's Clues", and again in the episode "Magenta Thank You Day Surprise" where instead of Blue's clues we play "Magenta's Clues" while her backstory and relationship with her owner Miranda is explored.
  • Female Feline, Male Mutt: Inverted. She is a female puppy and is friends with Periwinkle a male cat.
  • Genki Girl: Just as playful and excitable as Blue.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: It is mentioned in one episode that she loves playing with stuffed animals.
  • Inconsistent Coloring: Her nose is dark pink in most stock art, merchandise, and the reboot, while it appears more reddish in the original series and the earlier PC games.
  • Innocently Insensitive: In the reboot episode "Blue's Sad Day" where she replaces Green Puppy by being the one who accidentally makes Blue sad, as well as Purple Kangaroo and Orange Kitten, they are quick to forgive her after realizing she didn't do it on purpose.
  • Leitmotif: "Magenta's Coming Over", a piece of upbeat background music from "Magenta Comes Over" that played when she arrives at Blue's house, often accompanies her appearances and several toys of her from the original would play it. The album A Playdate With Blue would give it lyrics as "Truly A Friend".
  • Lovable Jock: Magenta, like her owner, is a great soccer player, although a little anxious about her abilities, she is also a Precious Puppy who used to be her owner's only friend.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: In the Reboot where she, Blue and Rainbow Puppy are animated in 3D in contrast with the 2D animation of the other recurring characters.
  • Only Friend: Magenta used to be Miranda's only friend during her childhood when she first moved into the neighborhood.
  • Palette Swap: Has Blue's model down to the same spots, just colored magenta and later on gained glasses. One exception is that her pawprint is shown on her right paw on merchandise for the original series as opposed to Blue's left.
  • Pawprint Stamping: Like Blue, Magenta can place semi-sentient pawprints on objects, and she uses this skill to play "Magenta's Clues" or "Blue and Magenta's Clues".
  • Pink Means Feminine: She is a cheerful Girly Girl whose body is almost entirely Magenta (a purplish-pink shade).
  • Precious Puppy: Just like Blue, Magenta is an adorable, friendly, magical puppy who just showed up one day to become her owner Miranda's first and best friend in the neighborhood.
  • Promoted to Opening Titles: Beginning in the fourth season. Ironically, it's the only season where she doesn't appear in any episodes outside of the opening, photos, drawings, and in the credits of "Steve Goes to College".
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: A magenta furred dog with a cheerful personality.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: She's adorable, and more traditionally feminine than the other puppies, but she's also a talented soccer player.
  • Suddenly Speaking: Even though she only speaks in barks like Blue does, some of the book releases depict her as talking freely to the other characters in normal English.
  • Super Cute Superpowers: The "puppies" in general seem to have the ability to put adorable (and almost sentient) Pawprints around, with some magical skills like animating objects they touch and changing their shapes, that Magenta uses to play "Blue and Magenta's Clues" or "Magenta's Clues".
  • Town Girls: She is Girly Girl, being literally pink, focused on arts and a little more timid and delicate, while Green is a Tomboy and Blue can be either one depending on the moment.

     Miranda
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/funpic_20240111_130641278.jpg
Miranda, from next door

Neighbourhood Location: Magenta's House
Played By: Shannon Walker Williams (Original Series), Adriana Vasquez (Reboot)
Series: 2 (different versions)
Episodes: "Magenta's Gets Glasses", "Shy" (original series), "Magenta's Thank You Day Surprise", "Hola, Mexico City!", "If You Don't See It, Be It!" (Reboot)
Characteristic Pattern : Red Flowers (Original), Pink Polka Dots (Reboot)

Magenta's Owner who lives next door, a few live action characters to have more than one appearance in the series. In the original series she only appears in "Shy" and "Magenta Gets Glasses".

Theres also a character named Miranda on the Reboot, played by Adriana Vasquez, although it is unclear whether they are intended to be the same character or a Significant Name Overlap.

Tropes that apply to the Blue's Clues version:

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20240107_175453_2.png
Magenta's Owner in the original series. One of Steve's only friends his age. She is artistic, kind and wise and is one of the few other live-action characters on the show to appear in more than one episode.
  • The Cameo: While she is not mentioned in "Magenta's Messages" a drawing of her made by Magenta can be seen on the wall of the living room of her house.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: She disappears after "Magenta Gets Glasses". When Joe and Blue house sit for Magenta in "Magenta's Messages", Miranda is neither seen nor referenced, although the clothing patterns she uses can be seen scattered throughout her home, and a drawing of her made by Magenta can be seen in the living room.
  • Color Motif: She is associated with the color red as opposed to Steve's color green.
  • Consistent Clothing Style: She wears red flowered shirts, which are also the theme of her house hall.
  • Decomposite Character: In the reboot, her role appears to have been divided between the character of the same name, who is Magenta's current owner, and Camila, one of Josh's human friends, who is wiser and is better at playing Blue's Clues.
  • Eccentric Artist: Averted. Miranda is implied to be an artist and her house is filled with works of art of various kinds (both hers and Magenta's) but she is a mature and responsible woman (especially when compared to Steve).
  • Not So Above It All: While she is better than Steve when it comes to using logic, she still needs the viewer's help to figure out which glasses Magenta wanted and the answers to the Blue's Clues game from the episode.
  • Red/Green Contrast: She is associated with the color red, and was wise and extroverted, to contrast with Steve, who was associated with the color green with a childish and introvert behavior.
  • Ship Tease: Steve clearly had a crush on her, but it's not completely clear whether she reciprocated the feeling or just saw him as a friend with shared interests.

Tropes that apply to the Blue's Clues & You! version:

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_20240107_144723_3.png
Magenta's owner in the reboot and one of Josh's neighborhood friends. She is athletic, determined and good-natured, loves skidoing with him and likes to guide him when he needs help.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: She knows that Josh is hard-headed, forgetful and prone to acting without thinking, which is why she tries to be the one in charge by not giving him the chance to make mistakes (which he eventually does anyway), but she's ready for when that happens.
  • Color Motif: She is associated with the colors pink and magenta to complement Josh's blue.
  • Consistent Clothing Style: She has been wearing pink shirts with polka dots since he was a child, which is a clue that Magenta is thankful for her on Thank You Day.
  • Fictional Holiday: The Thank You Day (which seems to be a mix between Valentine's Day and Thanksgiving) is Miranda's favorite holiday, as it happens on the same day that Magenta first appeared.
  • Friendless Background: "Magenta's Thank You Day Surprise" (or "Thank You Day") reveals that Magenta was her first friend in the neighborhood during her childhood.
  • Inexplicably Awesome: She's the only other human character besides the hosts to the skidoo on the screen, her skidoo aura is Magenta.
  • Lovable Jock: She is more athletic than Josh is, her main interest is soccer and she is a kind and caring woman, and Magenta's best friend, with both sharing their love of soccer.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: While she is not a Tomboy in the traditional sense, she is an athletic girl with high stamina who is quite determined, compared to the artistic, kind, and anxious guy that Josh is.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: She's the pink girl to Josh's blue boy. Interestingly, they both flip the trope's gender expectations, with Josh being a sensitive artist and Miranda an unstoppable jock.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Unlike her predecessor, Miranda does not have any moment that could be interpreted as a Ship Tease with Josh.
  • Spicy Latina: Downplayed. She doesn't follow most stereotypes of Latina women, but she is determined, unstoppable, and smarter than Josh, and is more than happy to show it and make more well-intentioned, smart-ass comments that criticize her friend's behavior, in a kind and constructive way.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Downplayed. She's not really huge, but is visibly taller than Marlon.

     Mailbox (Yellow)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_20240122_124123.png
Magenta's house Mailbox
The mailbox at Magenta's house.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: A talking mailbox.
  • The Blank: Occasionally she is shown without a face.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: She is yellow as opposed to Mailbox purple color. Interestingly, our Mailbox is a resident of a yellow house, while she is a resident of a purple house.

Voiced by: Cameron Bowen (season 3), Kenny Kim (seasons 4–5), Jansen Panettiere (season 6), Victoria Pontecorvo (Blue Takes You To School PC game), Luxton Handspiker (reboot)
Series: 2 (Blue's Clues & Blue's Clues & You!)
Episodes: ???
Movies: 1

A cat who lives nearby and likes to do magic tricks. He moves to the neighborhood in season three's "Blue's Big Mystery".
  • Ambiguous Situation: It is not completely clear whether Periwinkle's big city neighborhood was located in Storybook World or in the real New York City. On the one hand Rainbow Puppy mentions that she come from NYC, on the other considering that she spends a lot of time in Blue's neighborhood to visit her friends, it's not impossible that she would do the same thing to Periwinkle in the big city.
  • Anthropomorphic Shift: He's bipedal in the reboot, while in the original he walked on all four legs.
  • Bedsheet Ghost: He turns out to be the titular ghost from the episode "The Ghost in Our Living Room".
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Downplayed when compared to Joe or his grandfather, but his eyebrows are noticeably thicker than most of the children in the series.
  • Character Catchphrase: His magic words: "Peri pocus ocus crocus!".
  • Character Tics: Wiggling his ears.
  • City Mouse: Periwinkle in the original series was this, having a bit of difficulty adapting to the neighborhood, which is mainly a rural area, after living his entire life in the big city.
  • Color Character: Light periwinkle.
  • Cute Kitten: He's a very cute looking kitten.
  • Crossdressing Voices: In the PC game Blue Takes You To School, he's voiced by Victoria Pontecorvo (who would perform Blue's speaking voice in Blue's Room).
  • Dub Name Change: In the Brazilian Portuguese dub of Blue's Clues & You! he is called "Bigodinho", which means "Whisker".
  • Expressive Ears: Seen noticeably in the reboot when he droops his ears while talking about his worries regarding fitting into the new neighborhood.
  • Female Feline, Male Mutt: Inverted, Periwinkle is a male Cute Kitten while his puppy friends, Blue, Magenta, Green and Rainbow Puppy, are all female.
  • Four Legs Good, Two Legs Better: Unlike the dogs, Periwinkle can talk, and unlike them, he walks on two legs in the reboot.
  • Gender-Blender Name: While Periwinkle is a real name, it is a name mainly given to girls, while Periwinkle is a boy kitten.
  • In-Series Nickname: He is sometimes called "Peri" by other characters.
  • Inconsistent Coloring: Some toys of him make the white parts of his fur a lighter periwinkle shade while the stripes are darker.
  • Inexplicably Awesome: He can somehow float when disguised as a ghost in "The Ghost in Our Living Room", when he is revealed to be the "ghost" and removes the costume he is walking normally but he start to float again when he puts on the disguise for the secound time.
  • Informed Judaism: In the reboot, he's revealed to be Jewish, celebrating Hanukah.
  • Nice Jewish Boy: A Cute Kitten and a lively, polite kid who was confirmed to be Jewish in the reboot.
  • Promoted to Opening Titles: In most later season three episodes, he can he found hiding behind the tire swing in the opening sequence, and then appearing more prominently beginning with the fourth season.
  • Pull a Rabbit out of My Hat: He has a red stuffed rabbit named Presto that he uses for this kind of tricks, no wonder he once forgot him in the magic store.
  • She's a Man in Japan: He's female in the UK adaptation.
  • Stage Magician: His main hobby is stage magic which is relevant in "Blue Big Musical Movie" as he wants his friends to see him perform and again in the reboot where he inspires Josh to become a stage magician for a day in "Joshini the Amazing".
  • Talking Animal: A talking cat.

     Aly
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1704664157313_8.png
Aly, from the house behind

Played By: Izzi Nagel
Series: 1
Episodes: "A Blue's Clues Festival of Lights"
Characteristic Pattern : Purple/Magenta Triangles

The neighbor who lives in the house behind the yellow house and Periwinkle's owner, who has no equivalent in the original series.
  • Ambiguous Situation:
    • It's unclear whether the original series' version of Periwinkle had an Aly counterpart, lived alone, or lived with his grandfather, since his owner was never mentioned, and Joe sort of fulfilled the role of his caretaker.
    • The reason the two are currently living together is also unclear, but the dialogue implies that it wasn't always like this and that Peri used to live with his grandfather in the big city.
  • Canon Foreigner: While Periwinkle appeared in the original series, his owner was never mentioned or even referenced to the point where it was thought he lived alone. Aly was created to fill this role in the reboot.
  • Cheery Pink: She wears a pink sweater and in her debut episode she looks very excited and happy.
  • Color Motif: She is associated with the colors purple and pink.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: The loving owner of Periwinkle, a cat as well as a good friend of his grandfather Mauve.
  • Men Like Dogs, Women Like Cats: Like Sam, she is the girl who owns a cat when the male host has a dog.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: The pink girl to Josh's blue boy.

Miss Marigold

Miss Marigold
Blue's school teacher. She was originally one of the few human characters outside of live action, but in the reboot the character with her name is a pink hippo.

Tropes that apply to both versions

  • Adaptation Species Change: If you believe it's the same character. In the original Blue's Clues, Miss Marigold was an African-American human woman. In Blue's Clues & You, she is a pink hippo.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear if both versions are supposed to be the same character, or if they just share the same last name.
  • Cool Teacher: In both versions, but especially in the reboot which encourages its students to try new things with music.
  • Floral Motifs: Her surname is Marigold, which are also her symbol plants.
  • Vibrant Orange: All its versions are associated with different shades of Marigold, a yellowish orange, and they are very fun, relaxed teachers and generally pleasant women to be around.

Location: School
Voiced by: Aisha Hinds
Series: 1 (Blue's Clues)
Episodes: 5 note

Blue's teacher, a tall, calm and responsible animated human lady who runs the school and takes care of her students.
  • Adaptational Name Change: In the Brazilian Portuguese dub, her name is Mary.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: In some games and books her hair is dark brown instead of blue.
  • Depending on the Artist: In the series she was an African-American human with blue hair, wearing a marigold button-down shirt with marigold stamps on it and blue pants; In the books she normally wore lipstick which she did not in the animation; In the games she had brown hair and a yellow shirt with stamped marigolds, wears orange pants and again uses red lipstick.
  • Dub Name Change: In the Brazilian Portuguese dub her name is changed from "Miss Marigold" to simply "Miss Mary".
  • First Installment Weirdness: Before she was introduced in the fifth season, the voice of the teacher in the classroom that Blue studied was masculine.
  • Token Human: She was one of the only non-live action humans who didn't come from one of the skidoo worlds.
  • True Blue Femininity: Her hair is blue and she normally wears blue pants, and is one of the more traditionally feminine members of the cast.
  • World of Technicolor Hair: Her hair is dark blue in the animated series.

Reboot

Location: School
Voiced by: Rachel Bloom
Series: 1 (Blue's Clues & You!)
Episodes: "Blue's Show and Tell Surprise", "Something New at Blue's School", Blue's Mystery Present (cameo), Blue and Little Rainbow Riding Hood (Cameo) "Rock on, Rainbow Puppy!" (Cameo)

Blue's teacher in Reboot, a (relatively) small and cheerful pink hippo who loves to sing and encourage her students to try new experiences.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: She is a pink hippo.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She's an anthropomorphic hippo, so she's naturally a big woman, and she's also a pretty cute teacher.
  • Cheery Pink: She is pink and is a relaxed teacher who loves to sing and have fun with her students.
  • Fully-Dressed Cartoon Animal: She is one of the few anthropomorphic animals to be fully clothed.
  • Huggy, Huggy Hippos: She is a hippo who works as a teacher, and is kind, friendly and patient, always encouraging her students to try new things.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Subverted. She is pink, which wouldn't make anyone guilty of thinking she would be similar to Magenta and have pink fur, but hippos are less hairy than other mammals, having hair only on their tails. Meaning her skin is pink, not her fur.
  • The One Who Wears Shoes: She is the only anthropomorphic animal that always wears shoes, while the others normally go barefoot.
  • Talking Animal: A talking pygmy hippo.

     School Bus

Location: School
Voiced by: Donovan Patton
Series: 1 (Blue's Clues & You!)
Episodes: ???
Movies: 1

Blue's school bus, which is apparently also the one that transports people from Storybook World to places in the real world.

Tropes that apply to both

  • Animate Inanimate Object: An animated bus.
  • Gentle Giant: Because he is an living bus, he is much larger than most of the characters in the series, he is also quite relaxed and friendly, being as excited as Blue about the prospect of Josh realizing his dream in New York.
  • Sentient Vehicle: A bus capable of thinking, speaking and causing accidents.

Tropes Applied to School Bus

Tropes Applied to Skidoo Express

  • Drives Like Crazy: Hilariously despite being a talking bus his safe driving capabilities are questionable at best. Not only does he jump into the middle of the road making Josh scream, he also drives at high speed towards a dead end without informing Josh of how the travel work and lands out of control, knocking over several things in Times Square making some people run away in panic.
  • Flying Car: Well, Flying Bus. He flies as easily as he drives, although his skills doing both may not follow the safety manuals.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: While the standard school bus is yellow, the Skidoo Express has gold exterior details as well as his interior, as golden is the color associated with skidoo and skidoo portals.
  • Gold Is Yellow: He's a yellow car, but he is designed to be golden.
  • The Klutz: His landing skills leave a lot to be desired. He almost causes an accident and leaves many people scared when he lands in New York City.
  • Magic Bus: As if it weren't enough for him to be able to talk, he (or a very similar bus) is one of the ways to transport people from Storybook World to real-world locations, via skidoo.
  • Swirly Energy Thingy: What makes the skidoo express stand out from an ordinary bus are the swirls on his windows and front (making him look like a large skidoo portal) and the aura of swirls that he leaves behind before he skidoo.

Students

    In General
Tropes shared by the Blue School Students.
  • Cheerful Child: Everyone is kind and good-natured, as well as being intelligent and cooperative with the Hosts and new students.
  • Colourful Theme Naming: With the exception of the duck in the original series and Pearl in the reboot, all of the school's characters are named based on what colors they are, or of the clothes they are wearing in Miss Marigold case.
  • Innocently Insensitive: They are kind and well intentioned but as children they will occasionally hurt each other by accident in some situations (and quickly apologize).
  • Palette Swap: The class originally consisted mainly of characters with reused models but with different colors, with the only students not to repeat their models being Periwinkle and Duck who were new students. In the reboot Magenta is the only pallete swap to return.
    • Blue has Magenta and Green Puppy.
    • Purple Kangaroo has his sister Magenta Kangaroo and the Green Kangaroo.
    • Orange Kitten has the Blue, Green, Purple, Red and Yellow kittens.
  • Species Surname: Their surnames are usually the type of animal they are.

Series: 2 (Blue's Clues & Blue's Clues & You!)
Episodes: ???
Movies: 1

One of the kitties from Blue's School.

  • Ambiguous Situation: As "The mystery of the Missing thinking chair" reveals that there are multiple Orange Kittens and Purple Kangaroo in the neighborhood this raises the question of whether the Orange Kitten and the purple Kangaroo in Blue's classroom right now are the same characters as in the original series.
  • Ascended Extra: Like Magenta, she is much more relevant in the reboot than she was in the original series. Having an important role in the episode "Blue takes you to school" and even interacting with the viewer without needing the presence of a Host.
  • Color Character: Has "Orange" in her name.
  • Cute Kitten: The first of the kittens introduced in the series who is cute and well-mannered.
  • Inexplicably Identical Individuals: The Case of the Missing Thinking Chair reveals that there are at least three identical Orange Kittens in the neighborhood, which may or may not be related.
  • In-Series Nickname: Sometimes referred to as simply "Orange".
  • Informed Judaism: "Blue's Big Holiday" shows that she and her owner, Sam, are Jewish, and celebrate Hanukkah.
  • Palette Swap: Has a few, in the forms of Green Kitten and Blue Kitten. Two others, Red Kitten and Yellow Kitten, only appear in the PC games.
  • Shout-Out: She's essentially a repurposed version of "Mr. Orange", an orange cat that was originally going to be the titular character of the show before they decided on a blue dog.
  • Species Surname: Orange Kitten.
  • Talking Animal: A talking kitten.

Location: Purple's House, School
Voiced by: Max Behren (original), Alexander Claffy (Blue's Big Musical), Justice James (Reboot)
Series: 2 (Blue's Clues & Blue's Clues & You!)
Episodes: ???
Movies: 1

One of the kangaroos from Blue's School.
  • Ambiguous Gender Identity: In the original series Steve pointed out that because he was a male kangaroo he didn't have a marsupium but wished to have one, hence why Steve and Blue gave him a pocket for Christmas, because he wanted to have one, meanwhile in the reboot he seems to have a natural pouch but still uses masculine pronouns.
  • Ambiguous Situation: As "The mystery of the Missing thinking chair" reveals that there are multiple Orange Kittens and Purple Kangaroo in the neighborhood this raises the question of whether the Orange Kitten and the purple Kangaroo in Blue's classroom right now are the same characters as in the original series (the fact that the purple kangaroo is an Animal Gender-Bender in the reboot doesn't help).
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: His name is what he is: a purple kangaroo.
  • Animal Gender-Bender: Averted in the original series, where he's not given a pouch due to being a male kangaroo. Played straight in the reboot and the computer games based on the original, however.
  • Ascended Extra: Together with Orange Kitten, he is much more relevant in the reboot than his counterpart in the original series was. Having an important role in the episode "Blue takes you to school" and even interacting with the viewer without needing the presence of a Host.
  • Color Character: Purple Kangaroo.
  • Depending on the Artist: In the PC games, he has a pink nose (as opposed to black) and a pouch. This carries over to the reboot.
  • Palette Swap: Has two in the form of Magenta Kangaroo (who is also female and hinted to be his sister in "Blue's Big Holiday") and Green Kangaroo.
  • Inexplicably Identical Individuals: The Case of the Missing Thinking Chair reveals that there are at least three identical Purple Kangaroos in the neighborhood, which may or may not be related.
  • Kangaroos Represent Australia: According to Steve, Purple Kangaroo is Australian, but one day he was visiting the neighborhood and decided to start living there with Tyrese permanently.
  • National Animal Stereotypes: He's Australian and is a kangaroo.
  • Species Surname: His last name is Kangaroo, which is what he is.
  • Talking Animal: A talking kangaroo.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Steve mentions that Purple Kangaroo wished to have a kangaroo pocket that only female Kangaroos like his sister had, in reboot he makes this wish come true.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: His owner Tyrese is associated with the color yellow, while he is purple.

    Green Puppy

Green Puppy

Green

Location: Wynonna's House, School
Voiced by: Adam Peltzman
Series: 1 (Blue's Clues)
Episodes: ???

Movies: 1A puppy who goes to Blue's school.
  • Adapted Out: This appears to be the case in the reboot, as any remakes of the original series' episodes that featured her have Magenta take her place. She is mentioned in a video on the show's YouTube channel that adapted "Blue's Big Holiday" from the original, but it's unknown if she'll ever make a proper appearance in the show. If she does she would be the last original character to return.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Is, just as the name suggests, a green puppy.
  • Ambiguous Situation: She seems to exist in the Reboot universe since Josh mentions her in an official video where he tells the story of the episode "Blue Big Holiday" but is not present at school. Whether she moved away at some point or simply we only see the times when she is not present (as happened with other characters) is unclear.
  • Bifauxnen and Lad-ette: Very very Downplayed, because they are children. But she and Blue have this dynamic being both androgynous girls which can cause some Gender Confusion. Blue is an Intellectual Animal and Wise Beyond Their Years who likes to play Prince Charming and Green Puppy is a rough demolisher who prefers to play destroying things.
  • Bully Bulldog: Averted. Green Puppy appears to be a bulldog and tends to play a little rougher compared to Blue or Magenta, but is otherwise very friendly.
  • Cartoon Creature: Downplayed compared to Blue and Magenta- while the latter two are of a more ambiguous-looking dog breed, Green Puppy appears to be a bulldog.
  • Character Catchphrase: Does a "Bow-BOW!" bark every time she knocks over a block tower.
  • Color Character: Green Puppy.
  • Crossdressing Voices: Voiced by Adam Peltzman, who was also a writer for the series.
  • Cute Little Fangs: The only one of the puppy characters to have them, too.
  • A Day in the Limelight: She gets a bigger role in the episode "Blocks".
  • In-Series Nickname: Sometimes she gets referred to as simply "Green".
  • Green and Mean: Subverted. She initially appears to be this, but is actually very nice, only having difficulty understanding that she has hurted Blue.
  • Innocently Insensitive: In her first appearance in "Blue's Sad Day". Blue feeling sad was caused by Green Puppy knocking down her block tower at school. While she came to Blue's house to apologize, she still continued to knock down Blue's block towers until Blue gave her her own pile of blocks to play with and knock down. Green Puppy wasn't intentionally being malicious; that was just how she likes to have fun and didn't consider how Blue felt. After that, they become good friends.
  • Nice Girl: She completely avoids negative stereotypes for both bulldogs and tomboys, being quite kind and presenting Blue with flowers when she comes to visit the yellow house, with most of her problems coming from being Innocently Insensitive rather than being rude.
  • Red/Green Contrast: She is literally a Green Puppy, while her owner Wynonna is associated with the color red. She is also a bit rough while Wynonna is calmer and more mature.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She's red oni to Blue’s blue oni. Both are genki girls, but Blue prefers to play more creatively, while Green prefers to just knock over toys.
  • Secondary Color Nemesis: Subverted. She is initially introduced as this, by a drawing made to look intimidating probably done by Blue who was clearly hurt, but when she is finally revealed she is a gentle puppy, who just needed to learn to play in a group.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Green is very friendly and kind, but also a little less sociable than the other characters, sometimes being seen to spend time separated from others when she feels overwhelmed, has difficulty understanding social cues and understanding when she is hurting someone, sometimes seeming a little impolite, but never malicious.
  • Species Surname: Green Puppy.
  • Suddenly Speaking: Even though she only speaks in barks, some of the book releases depict her as talking freely to the other characters in normal English.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Tomboy for Magenta and Orange Kitten’s GirlyGirls. Preferring to knock things over rather than play with stuffed animals.
  • Tomboyish Voice: Is more of a tomboy compared to Blue and Magenta and has a deeper bark to emphasize this.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: While she is The Lad-ette and acts a little rougher than the other puppies, she doesn't seem to have any problems wearing dresses or dressing up in flowers.
  • Town Girls: She is Tomboy being Ladette, with a Tomboyish Voice and somewhat aggressive behavior, to Magenta Girly Girl and Blue who can be both depending on the moment.

It is revealed in "Meet Josh" that during the Time Skip, Joe became the second owner of the Present Store.

Human Neighbors

     In General
Besides our three hosts, there are other humans beings in the neighborhood, even though they rarely appear. Although surrounded by a fantastic and quirky world, they will usually have more down-to-earth behaviors compared to our protagonists, to highlight the host quirkiness, but never being rude about it, sometimes even joining in the fun.
  • Blue Oni, Red Oni: They are typically the blue oni to the red oni of the three the hosts to the hosts red oni. They are usually mature and calm, while the hosts are cheery and gentle manchilds. Ironically, the human friends are typically associated with warm colors while the hosts are associated with cool colors, inverting the color dynamics of the trope.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Like Hosts, the secondary human characters are associated with a color and pattern of clothing. Wynonna and the original series Miranda wore red, Julia, Tyrese and Marlon are yellow, Sam and Marlee are orange, Aly and Miranda in the reboot are pink, Camila is purple and the Fire Chief Frankie is black.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: Aly, the Reboot version of Miranda and to a lesser extent Camila are associated with the color pink/magenta while the series host Josh wears blue clothing.
  • Red/Green Contrast: Marlee, Miranda and Wynonna who were associated with the color red while Steve wore the color green. They are also normally mature and extroverted while he is the friendly and timid manchild.

  • Rookie Male, Experienced Female: Acts as a mentor figure to the rookie Josh, who wants to become a firefighter helper but still needs training.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Of Josh's neighborhood friends she is the tallest, apparently the same height as Josh himself and she is also a Badass Adorable, who is very beautiful.

  • Cheerful Child: He is an adorable and happy baby who would occasionally deliver clues to Joe.
  • Courier: In at least 2 situations he was the one who gave clues to Joe.

    Gopher

Gopher

Gopher
Voice: John Cleland

A playful groundhog that lives in the backyard of the house.

  • A Day in the Limelight: The eighth episode of "Storytime with Josh and Blue" "Detective Blue and Gopher" video takes place mainly from his point of view. Where we see him, with Blue's help, solving a case.
  • Anthropomorphic Shift: He starts off as an ordinary Gopher who understands English, then becomes increasingly intelligent by creating relatively complex games for the hosts, later he is seen working as a detective in the series podcast, having a family, and and finally revealing that he knew how to speak the entire time in the series' canon.
  • Badass Longcoat: As "Detective Gopher", in a look likely inspired by Steve.
  • Civilized Animal: In the Reboot where he is a detective, has an office, a cell phone, uses secret stairs and passages, and takes photos with his family, him knowing how to speak is just a bonus.
  • Clueless Detective: Even though Gopher is smart, he demonstrates some memory problems that make his job a little more difficult.
  • Collector of the Strange: Steve theorizes that Gopher collects the clues he doesn't erase after he picks one from the screen in "Blue's Collection".
  • Color Motif: He is associated with the color brown.
  • Detective Animal: In the reboot he is revealed to be a detective in the same style as Steve when he is not playing with our protagonists.
  • Dork Knight: He has some memory problems that hinder his work as an investigator, but he is actually quite intelligent, as seen in his previous appearances.
  • Dub Species Change: In the Brazilian dubbing during Steve's episodes he is just called a rodent, while Josh calls him a squirrel, Joe is the only one who refers to him by the correcto species name (although Josh also calls him by the right species once, but only when talking about Detective Gopher).
  • Fast Tunnelling: He seems to have the ability to dig extremely fast whenever he wants to.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Likes to troll the Hosts with his games and Josh looks comically serious whenever he mentions his name, but he's friends with them like all the neighbors.
  • Funny Animal: An intelligent rodent that likes to play games and tease people.
  • The Gadfly: He likes to play tricks on his hosts, and laughs whenever they try to outsmart him, seeming impossible to predict his next move. His detective persona does not abandon this side, as it reveals that he knew how to speak, meaning that the gopher sound that bothered the hosts was just a form of teasing them.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Detective Gopher wears a hat, a tie and a long coat, but he doesn't wear pants.
  • Hero of Another Story: "The Mystery of the Missing Pies" is revealed that not only he can talk, but also that he is a Private Detective, has a family, has his own version of Josh's Handy-Dandy Notebook and lives in a community of colorful Gophers. Somehow the adorable Gopher who occasionally trolled the hosts had a whole adventure story going on.
  • Jerkass to One: Downplayed since he's not really a jerk, just a lot less patient with Steve compared to the other house members and the other two hosts. Ironic when you consider that Steve seems to be the main inspiration for his detective persona.
  • Mole Miner: Downplayed. He is a gopher and although he does not act stereotypically like a miner, he is mentioned as making large tunnels, and secret passages to different locations, including his own office, by himself.
  • Nearly Normal Animal: He is generally less magical than the other animals in the neighborhood, being a normal, but smart, gopher. In the Reboot he learns to speak, but still remains very down to earth.
  • Perpetual Frowner: In the original series he was one of the least expressive characters, appearing to be permanently frowning even when he was happy (which is justified since he was a non-anthropomorphic animal).
  • Race-Name Basis: His name is Gopher and he is a Gopher
  • Strong Family Resemblance: His children are basically shorter clones of him.
  • Suddenly Voiced: He gains a voice in the reboot during the episode "The Mystery of the Missing Pies".
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He was never mean to begin with, but seems to become friendlier with Josh than he was with Steve.
  • Troll: He likes to tease the hosts along with Shovel and Pail with his games.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Not him, but Josh, who describes him as having a pink nose in Storytime With Josh and Blue'' even though his nose is black in the canon media.
  • Wormsign: Leaves it behind when digging or after jumping out of the ground.
  • You Can Talk?: In the reboot much to Josh and Blue's surprise, though the other residents don't seem surprised.
