Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.

Ask the Tropers:
openForum for bloated pages
Is there a long-term forum somewhere to address pages that have so many tropes listed that seem to be misuse? Specifically, Epic Rap Battles of History feels like it needs a look-over because there's so many tropes listed and I don't know if they fit given the format of the series. (The Moments/YMMV pages also may need help.) If not, could this specific work warrant a short-term cleanup?
Edited by mightymewtronopenIs it okay to write a notice in a page?
Is it okay for Tropers to write commented-out notices like "Please don't add Broken Base entries until the six-month waiting period" or "Please see the X thread before adding an example" to pages, or is that something only mods are supposed to do?
I'm asking because the YMMV for She-Ra and the Princesses of Power here has had various Unfortunate Implications entries added and deleted due to lack of citations. Would it be okay to make a commented-out notice about it?
Edited by iamconstantineopenAn example violating administrivia?
On TierInducedScrappy.LowTiers I found this example:
Every character besides yourself in King Arthur & the Knights of Justice on SNES. They were the definition of dead weight and could barely kill a bottom level rat.
Does this violate the Examples Are Not General rule?
Edited by ATricksterArtistopenHow do I create a Fanon page for a webcomic? Webcomic
I've tried to go to the fanon page and put it in the index but it always came out red. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Can you help?
openVideoGame/AethrasChronicles? Or VideoGame/AethraChronicles?
Aethra's Chronicles? Or Aethra Chronicles?
The Start Screen doesn't have the possessive...
Wikipedia doesn't have it either...
Or maybe, even The Aethra Chronicles, as that's really what Wikipedia and the Start Screen say...
openDoes AlternativeCharacterInterpretation also work for interpretations that have no basis in reality?
Like when the fandom just gives a character a new personality for funsies, rather than being an alternate reading of the text. Like Amon being a failed comedian whose motivation is to make people laugh at his jokes. Or Hal Jordan being a tryhard Failure Hero.
openMastarMedia rewrite
I wrote an entry for Ma STAR Media a very long time ago. It was meant to be a critical article pointing out the flaws with his work, and even quoted a Youtuber for it (Mastar tracing over animation and presenting it as his own, using manipulative editing that is disrespectful to anyone who speaks Japanese, and the fact his videos aren't available in Japan)
Troper smonkey deleted all of it, and rewrote the article to make Mastar look good, to the point of bias. This is conveniently his only two edits since they entered.
How should I proceed?
Edited by TomodachiopenJust For Fun page as a Useful Note?
I'm not sure where to begin with this one.
I found this Just for Fun page on Termites, and it's listed under Useful Notes. Said page is also troped, and if I recall, Useful Notes pages are not allowed to be troped at all.
Improper namespace? Loophole Abuse of the rules? I'm so confused right now.
openShould I call a fanfic series just by its shortest name, or append Series?
Should I call a fanfic series just by its shortest name, or append Series?
The Waiting Doom series:
So, do I call the series, The Waiting Doom Series, or just The Waiting Doom, and give the first story a "1" at the end of it's name, ala Video Games of Bio Shock, Portal, Borderlands, etc?
open Indexing
I've just created a page for The Legend of the Dogman. Where might I index it?
openAdaptational Issues on trope pages Anime
Okay, I’m thinking about The Case Files of Jeweler Richard specifically, but I’m sure this isn’t the only work with this problem (a non-manga, non-light novel work getting an anime adaptation.)
First 6 volumes were roughly adapted to an anime. Volumes 7-10 do not have an adaptation (yet? I guess we don’t know).
If I were to list something from volume 9 on a trope page as an example, would it go under the Anime category, or under Literature?
How about something that wasn’t in the anime at all, but was in volume 4?
I keep running around in circles and just want to catalog stuff, dangit.
openVideo game YMMV Videogame
It's come to my attention that Walls of Text are to be avoided on the wiki. While editing some video game articles, I came upon some YMMV entries that, while well written and engaging, go way over the limits of what is widely considered a wall of text. (400 characters or more.) I am referring mainly to tropes like the Goddamned Bats or That One Boss.
Is there a site policy for these sorts of additions, or do we just use discretion depending on the entry?
openVandal
Joebavex vandalizes pages for Hearts of Iron mods (specifically on The New Order Last Days Of Europe and associated subpages), deleting all content from pages and replacing it with trollish phrases.
Edited by MagnimikopenTrope arc length Film
Hello, Assuming tropes take a certain amount of time to pay off, should there be a distinction between long arc tropes vs short arc tropes in the search index? Or simple vs complex tropes.. still wrapping my mind around a method of organization.
Edited by RallythetropessopenArrowverse posters Live Action TV
With this normally being the point where we'd get the posters for the new seasons, is it okay to use the recently released ones as placeholders until the officials ones are released?
openOutdated trope name?
Stalking Is Funny if It Is Female After Male is using a pre-Second Google Incident snowclone. Should it be taken to TRS?
openTranslation Conflict Anime
There is a character in PandoraHearts whose name is officially translated as the "Bloody Black Rabbit." A rather long time ago, somebody changed the word "Bloody" to "Bloodstained" in all examples, explaining that Bloodstained is a better translation as it is equally accurate to the original Japanese while avoiding the connotation issues in British English.
Although I thought it was better to be consistent with the official English translation, I didn't really bring this up anywhere because I wasn't very familiar with TV Tropes. Now I'm wondering if this is something that should be addressed. I don't really mind the change—I actually agree that in several aspects "Bloodstained" is probably a better translation than "Bloody." But I don't know if relying on an unofficial translation is against the rules.
What is the general consensus here?
Edited by CyokieRevottopen Page blanked
The New Order Last Days Of Europe and Thousand Week Reich, plus their subpages, were page blanked by Joebavex.
Edited by Kappaclystica
I know Moments pages are spoilers off. That I've been enforcing as much as I can. But what about when the Moments are just smaller sections on the YMMV page?
On Dad, one of the three Shocking Moments examples is given spoiler tags. I'm unsure if I should remove the markup, or if I should go the other route and spoil the rest of it.
Basically, is moments spoilers off regardless, or is it moment pages specifically?
