During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

@ACW Unfortunately, yes.
Okay. Having watched letsplay of "Scarface: The World Is Yours" i understand why the entry is so short and nothing elaborated upon. The reason is because "beating women to death and dumping their bodies to the sharks" stuff are example of "Offscreen Villainy".
Here's part of Let's Play where Sandman's ex-girlfriend tell about this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luBywdcWU7U (starts on 2:40)
And here's a mission where you meet him for first and only time - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYMb8o8VqVQ&t=77s
Aside from that you can attack one of his places where he runs drug operations and that's pretty much it. Considering that his only notible crime (beating and raping women then feeding them to the sharks) is "Offscreen Villainy" and his other actions are pretty generic for drug lord, can i suggest we cut him?
If it is entirely offscreen, I'm perfectly fine with cutting him.
Here's a de-potholed Bulba and the Gargoyles trio:
- Darkwing Duck: Taurus Bulba, Darkwing's smartest and most-feared adversary, is introduced serving a 99-year sentence at a high-security prison for several crimes, including the murder of Gosalyn's grandfather. Once he breaks out and destroys the prison he was contained in, Taurus schemes to activate the Waddlemeyer Ramrod in order to destroy buildings and rob banks. To gain the code, Taurus threatens to drop Gosalyn off a building if Darkwing didn't activate the Ramrod, remarking that she'd "make a nasty stain on the street". Once Darkwing activates the Ramrod in desperation, Taurus drops Gosalyn anyways for little reason at all, looking over it with a smug grin. After he was resurrected by F.O.W.L. as a cyborg, Taurus shows his gratitude by destroying their base and going to work on his own. With no comedic quirks and with no regard to who he hurt, Taurus Bulba was Darkwing's most feared adversary for a reason.
- Gargoyles, for the most part, has a well-deserved reputation for sympathetic and three-dimensional villains. There are, however, a few unrepentantly horrible ones:
- Jackal is a sadistic and violent member of the Pack who gleefully participates in hunting the gargoyles for sport and abandons his humanity to become a cyborg killing machine, seeming only to take pleasure in violence and cruelty. While Jackal is often kept in check by his colleagues, season 2's "Grief" reveals what he is truly capable of. When the Egyptian god Anubis is captured by an Emir seeking to bring his dead son back to life, Jackal seizes power from the Jackal god and makes himself the god of death, torturing his enemies by aging them to the point they are almost too infirm to move and transforming his own teammates into children. Jackal proceeds to attempt to wipe out every living thing on the planet simply because he can, destroying an entire city before he is stopped.
- Thailog is a clone of Goliath, created by Anton Sevarius on David Xanatos's orders. An Evil Genius whose only drive is his ambition to dominate, enrich himself, and control what he could, Thailog is introduced enacting a plan to steal $20 million from Xanatos, then trying to murder his three "fathers", by burning them alive. Later seducing Demona, Thailog attempted to trick her and Macbeth into killing one another so he could steal their fortunes and seize control of their assets for his own gain. Going on to clone the Manhattan clan as a prelude to killing them, Thailog betrays and tries to kill Demona when she stops him from killing her daughter, revealing that he had cloned Demona as well. Presumed dead for a time, Thailog later resurfaces, trying to force the clones to re-enter his service, then stabbing Goliath with a knife to collect his DNA and potentially murder him. Combining Goliath's brute strength with Xanatos's cunning and Sevarius's flair for the dramatic, Thailog stands out as one of the Manhattan clan's most malevolent foes a creature that even Xanatos regards as a monster.
- Proteus of the New Olympians, from "The New Olympians" and "Seeing Isn't Believing", is a shape-shifting Serial Killer who was imprisoned after murdering the previous captain of the guard. He consistently assumes the form of his victim to mock the man's son Taurus. When he tricks his way to freedom, Proteus delights in sowing the seeds of chaos all through the city, using people's emotions against them with his powers for a sick thrill and trying to destroy his city and commit genocide on his own people.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI regret not suggesting cutting El Gordo before. I’m glad someone else beat me to the punch.

Feels good, don't it?El Gordo
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I'll file that cut tomorrow when I submit the Disney stuff.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM Draftsto Stravos and General Warhawk.
@acw:
- Taurus Bulba has a weird error as a Parr of his entry reads as base]an
- For Thailog wouldn't Evil Doppelgänger work better than Evil Twin

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Bulba should be fixed; I'm honestly not sure which one's more accurate for Thailog.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsDoes Thailog have moral agency?
Why wouldn’t he? The answer is yes, absolutely.
Yeah....
He was just created by combing DNA from Xanatos and Goliath. They don't have Agency issues. So why would he ?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I specifically remember one of Thailog's lines towards Goliath being "I decided to hate you too."
Also wasn't there a plot where the throws the other clones under the bus when they get a degenerative disease ? You'd think that might be important to add.
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."A little off topic but Percival C. McLeach has this under his character sheet.
- Villainous Valour: It should be noted that he fights a large pack of crocodiles in a quite fearless way. Granted that they retreat just because they were approaching a waterfall but even before that McLeach was strong enough to handle'em.
Unless I'm wrong, doesn't Villainous Valour count as a redeeming trait?
I wouldn't think so. It just doesn't make him a Dirty Coward.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsHe’s trapped in the water swarmed by crocodiles. He’s fighting them off because it’s literally all he can do to survive.
Yeah, that's hardly redeeming (by hardly, I mean definitely not actually). If anything, I would have been mad at the crocodiles if they'd successfully denied us McLeach's glorious drop off the waterfall that he 100% deserved.
@ACW You doing this week's batch tomorrow?
Also, does Big Boy Caprice from Dick Tracy not count because of heinousness, he's too standard or is he too Laughably Evil?
If a vote is kind of split down the middle but never resolved, that mean discussion can be reopened?
Yeah, that's not even a question.
Edited by futuremoviewriter on Dec 7th 2018 at 10:22:12 AM
Not being a Dirty Coward, while it MIGHT make the villain less pathetic it dosent count as much of a redeeming factor.
For example Amon Goeth famously(like in real life) chose to Face Death with Dignity. But Is ANYONE gonna say HE should he cut?
Things are really about to get Fun around hereI don't think being Defiant to the End like that would count as a redeeming quality. It simply means a bad guy is confident enough in their own abilities and ad fine with going out on there own terms.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Then I guess it just stops a villain from being a complete Hate Sink.
Future: Nah, this week's regular batch goes Monday; the Disney de-potholes go tomorrow (I usually do the de-potholes separately).
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsHere's something else I want to know: which mindset to you dislike more?
- I hate this character; therefore, (s)he must be a Complete Monster.
- I love this character; therefore, (s)he is not a Complete Monster.
Former. By far. Speaking from experience, it's caused a lot more strife.
Why so serious?I honestly think that Villainous Valour can actually sometimes make a Monster even worse.
The less cowardly a villain is, the more likely they are to be willing to do unspeakable evil, even if it hurts them.
I see both sides as annoying.
I do like the character of 154, but, I only thought he was worth effortposting because of his high body count and lack of empathy. That said, I don't think he is worth bringing up again as a candidate, as he was already downvoted.
