9/10, one of my favorite horror tropes, especially if done just subtly enough that you can sense something is "off"

7/10 can be horrifying and tragic.

5/10 really just depends on the writer if it ends up good or not, most times its just stupid though

Crapsack World

3/10. Since I'm usually optimistic, I don't respond very well to fictional settings where everything is bad. I know a lot of terrible things happen in real life, but I usually prefer to watch works of fiction that give me a feel-good break from all that.

If it's Played for Laughs, or if there are optimistic/heroic characters who aren't tragically killed off or have their views invalidated, then I'm interested.

5/10. As someone who plays Fire Emblem games, they can be useful or detrimental.

6/10 its good on occasion, but sometimes it can come off as And That's Terrible and Captain Obvious to me.

Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: 5/10

Sometimes it's one of the most cathartic moments in a work, other times it falls flat, because sometimes the Freudian excuse does explain, or even justify, a lot of their actions, and it makes the characters seem really callous for no reason.

Person of Mass Destruction: 6/10

A lot of care has to be taken to make them interesting, and not just a person-shaped plot device, but I tend to like them more often than not.

8/10 While a direct narrative is easier to understand (obviously) and has its place, environmental story-telling has its own charm and it makes the game feel natural.

2/10. Not the worst possible worldview, but it’s up there. Only good when it’s Played for Comedy.

9/10. A lot of care has to be taken to make it not feel boring or like a copout, but when it works, it's probably the most effective type of horror, and worth the effort.

5/10 It can be a cool-looking effect, but if there are fish or other animals in the tank, I feel bad for them.

Villains Want Mercy

6/10. It can be satisfying to see incredibly heinous villains beg for mercy as Catharsis Factor (and be given none) but I think a Face Death with Dignity or Strike Me Down with All of Your Hatred! can be an equally effective way for a villain to face his end.
