It looks like we haven't had a thread like this since 2017, so I thought it would be best to start a new one.

I like Big the Cat.

I understand why many people hate him - you don't buy a Sonic game because you want to go fishing, you want fast-paced action. But I honestly think that Big's levels in Sonic Adventure aren't terrible. They're really not too tedious or clunky, and if you understand the rules, you can beat them quickly.

I also understand that some people might not like how Big's silly nature clashes with the serious tone of the rest of the game, but Big never really felt offensive to me, he just felt like your typical Plucky Comic Relief.

I hope people don't just hate him because he's dimwitted. Stupid characters are bad when they have a Lack of Empathy and hurt others, but Big isn't like that at all. He's just a good-natured guy who loves his frog friend and means no harm to anyone.note  He's a great example of a Gentle Giant, one of my most favorite tropes.

His theme song, Lazy Days -Livin' in Paradise-, illustrates everything I like about him. It has kind of a goofy tone, but it's still upbeat and charming in a way. The singer sounds like he's having so much fun.

I rather liked Lara Croft’s two friends in Tomb Raider: Legend.

Princess Aurora is underrated, pass it on.

I like Morgana, he’s cute and, while he’s a bit of an asshole, he still cares about his friends. Also he’s a huge simp for Ann

Every character in the Star Wars prequels that was adapted into the Clone Wars. In both series, they are rewritten to be grounded and likeable characters. The lack of narm and crude humour, alongside consistent narrative work wonders for these ideas.

I don’t dislike Yasuhiro Hagakure, he’s more or less fine as comic relief and never really came across as annoying for me, not sure why people hate him so much.

Well, that’d be jus’ a waste. Why would ya want to deprive the world of such anomaly as yourself?

[up]Ooh boy do I have a confession to make.

I’m not a BNHA fan, but I like Mineta. (prepares for hate mob)

He reminds me of Showa era character designs and personalities. I love his adorable big eyes and just how he looks in general. My friend showed me his trial episode once and I thought he was great. But I’m not interested in the franchise as a whole. If he got his own Showa-parody spin-off, I’d probably watch it.

[up][up] and [up].

You're not alone on your opinions either. A lot of anime critics who are fond of old shows dislike My Hero Academia because it's repetitive in the shonen medium.

I am on a different page, I dislike it because it doesn't do anything with the superhero formula. The American market is over saturated by them and very few of them do anything to stand out. Good stories in general (especially superheroes) are reliant on subverting its characters and/or premise.

"What makes you special in the medium? How is your premise be different than the rest?" My Hero Academia asks none of these question and is a passionate love letter that doesn't realize its influences have become bland.

Back to the topic at hand. I didn't mind Miko from Transformers: Prime. I found she was a good reflection of people who like giant robots but I won't deny that what she did was stupid and dangerous.

I absolutely love Elmyra Duff from Tiny Toons, she honestly reminds me of myself with her love for cute animals and she's one of my favorite characters to draw.

I do wish the creators weren't so obsessed with her though

Okay, I haven't seen her episodes, but Chole was a good idea maybe if they thought of her before Sparky she would have worked.

[up]Speaking of that show, did people consider Poof a scrappy? Because I actually didn’t mind him and liked some of his episodes.

[up] I don't think people considered Poof a scrappy. Most people I've seen say while he's not completely necessary, he also isn't detrimental to the show. At best, maybe base breaking?

Speaking of, I honestly didn't mind Sparky. Admittedly, he was introduced when I was in grade school and obessesed with talking dogs. (I was obsessed with the Air Buddies series and Dog With A Blog.)

and the public won't dwell on my transmission cause it wasn't televised.

While he isn't one anymore, I liked Apollo Justice when he was still considered a Replacement Scrappy (before Dual Destinies). Probably helps that Apollo Justice was my first Ace Attorney game

I think Scrappy Doo is a perfectly fine character.

And Jar-Jar Binks gets way more hate than he deserves. It's one thing if people don't find him as amusing as I do. But he's got more hate than all the other disliked parts of the prequel trilogy combined.

[up] I've never watched the prequel trilogy, but I heard that the guy that played Jar Jar got so much hate about it that he nearly commited suicide? Like, even if a character is a scrappy, that's not excuse to be a fucking asshole.

I've never really found Ronaldo to be as annoying as everyone else does. Yeah he's done a few morally questionable things and his behavior in "Rocknaldo" was way out of line (even if I'm one of the few who understands why he acted like that, Steven was completely in the right to call him out), but like... eh. At the end of the day he's just an obsessed teenager/young adult in need of a reality check. Also I lowkey ship Janaldo and I'm still a little salty they left those two getting back together as background cameos

In the same vein, Onion. I don't know if people hate him as much as they did back then, but I love this kid. His Troubling Unchildlike Behavior shtick is funny to me and one of the more interesting aspects of humans in this series.

Jar Jar really isn't that awful - as a kid I even found his antics amusing. I can see why people hate him, though: he's very tonally off for a Star Wars film, belonging to a much zanier comedy; he can be The Load for the rest of the cast; and as a kid I didn't realize the racial connotations.

Still, harrassing Ahmed Best because he "ruined Star Wars" was a major sign that the Star Wars fandom is turning very toxic. Even if you think Jar Jar is the worst thing that happened to Star Wars, Best is just an actor who did what Lucas told him to do.

[up] I watched Phantom Menace recently and he's really not nearly as bad as I used to think he was. Admittedly, I kind of jumped on the hate train (of Jar Jar, not the actor) because I felt like I was supposed to. Now I'm trying to break out of that way of thinking.
