Wick Check Project

For now I'll do Jerk-to-Nice-Guy Plot and if we feel we need more substance we'll add the 86 Took a Level in Kindness wicks, but... I'm not sure how necessary that will be.

On a related note, I've been slacking off on Sandbox.Camera Screw Wick Check and I need to get back on it when I get some time.

Sandbox is ready. I think my confusion is that I'm not sure what a distinct example would even look like, but to address this I also added a counter at the bottom for all the examples that have a TALIK wick for the same character. Extra research but I feel it's worth doing.

I started a wick check for Guttural Growler but I don’t know what categories to use since it mostly just chairsy “character has a raspy voice”.

I dealt with this when wick checking Fashion Model because it's also a ZCE magnet for being (kinda) chairs.

In this case you'd want to prove whether it's entirely chairs or maybe there's something there. So you divide the trope into a folder for examples that have some useful context, and a folder for "X has a coarse voice" (which is zce/chairs). You might wanna make another folder for examples that are confused for this trope (e.g. a Smoky Voice example that's on Guttural Growler).

Double post, but I finished my They Do Wick Check.

Are the examples sorted correctly? Are there any examples in the first folder that aren't redundant with Relationship Upgrade/fit the second folder?

I finished my Jerk To Nice Wick Check. If anyone wants to double check the sorting, that'd be cool; I'm confident on most but struggled with a handful.

As for , your wick check seems fine to me.

The Characters.Soul Eater Troubled Souls Project Omega is a ZCE with some context. Other than that, it's great so far.

I need some help with performing a wick check for Bare Your Midriff.

Personally, I think you should divide between “character bares a midriff for a reason (ex. Because it’s hot where they live)” and simple zce/chairs.

Edit: I actually I read the wick check, but I still think my idea kinda applies.

Previous discussion about the topic.

Thinking of running a wick check for The Team to determine percentage of ZCEs / see how people are formatting examples. While dewicking The Chick, I noticed that a lot of examples are formatted in the same low-context supertrope-subtrope format that got Five-Man Band sent to TRS; some of those examples might've been moved wholesale to The Team during wick cleaning. Thoughts?

I started a wick check for Catchphrase with concerns over 1) misuse as "Character says X frequently" and ignoring the rest of the criteria and 2) ZCE/Pothole issues. Because the trope has almost 22K wicks, it's going to need 150 wicks checked so any and all help is appreciated!

Don't think it'd hurt to do a wick check, especially since concerns have already been raised—I remember some discussion about that trope myself.

Just make sure that, come TRS (if it ends up being necessary), you have a workable solution/solutions. With that many wicks, I don't want a repeat of the Berserk Button thread.

Crossposting from Trope Talk. I've finished a Unacceptable Targets Wick Check since that got taken out of the Acceptable Targets TRS thread's scope. Out of 51 wicks:

• 16 wicks fit the trope description of "a person/work makes fun of something unacceptable, spurring significant backlash"
• 7 are about creators refusing to make fun of certain things to avoid backlash
• 14 are about things being unacceptable to make fun of, but without evidence of backlash
• The other 14 are a mixture of ZCEs, trope relationships, and misc. misuse.

I sense a lot of overlap with things like Sacred Cow, Dude, Not Funny! (for in-universe examples, and there are a decent amount), Role-Ending Misdemeanor, Overshadowed by Controversy, He Panned It Now He Sucks, etc., so my initial thought would be to disambig it between those tropes and potentially others. Any final input before I stick this in the queue?

Maybe add "make a trope for fictional cases where characters make fun of an unacceptable target with or without facing backlash its own trope" as one of the options?

Also, maybe rename the "IDK" folder to something more formal like "uncertain/unsure".
