Danny needs a hug because he was bullied rather heavily as a kid and all but ignored entirely by his parents, resulting in his adolescent self having a rather poor self-image that he hides under a mask of being impossibly cool (and building inventions that are creative, but don’t always work).

Gale is a Nice Guy, but he's also had some personal losses of family, one of them being one of his childhood caretakers and the one person who raised him, plus he's been quite unable to be successful and deep down feels like a failure and a nobody who won't amount to much.

Honestly, to say Shuichi's been through a lot would be the understatement of the year—out of all the Danganronpa protagonists (hell maybe even the series's cast of characters as a whole) he's definitely gotten the shortest end of the stick. Listing everything would take far too long, so.
Summarising it really quickly: he's always been shy and insecure—particularly about his title of the Ultimate Detective, which he thinks he doesn't deserve and believes he only solved his cases out of pure luck. To make matters worse, the one he was most famous for solving had a complete Asshole Victim, so much so that it would seem that it would be better if the culprit wasn't convicted at all.
In the very first chapter (when he's kidnapped and forced into killing like in every DR game), he gets motivated enough by his best friend to start having more self confidence...until she's accused of murder and is executed by hanging, having her corpse smashed repeatedly into the ground with a noose until she chokes. Shuichi has a BSOD but is pulled out of it and eventually steps forward as a more assured leader...
...And then he accidentally gets the fucking Prime Minister of Japan killed just by figuring out the next murder. So the cycle continues, with undoubtedly the most brutal executions in the entire franchise on the way.
That is, until Shuichi finds himself in the last trial with all but three of his friends dead. Finally, we're almost done. Thought it couldn't get worse? Think again. It turns out that he was the one who got himself into this mess in the first place. The entire thing was a TV show consisting of fans who volunteered to participate and started killing each other after getting their memories wiped—the mastermind was the one who orchestrated the first murder, rendering poor Shuichi's best friend framed and her death, along with LITERALLY EVERYONE ELSE'S, utterly pointless. Shuichi dismantles the killing game and survives the destruction of the school, but with just 2 other people alive; truly a new record in "Forever Alone". His ultimate fate? Who knows.
TL;DR the poor guy needs a big hug and like 5 coffee.

This specific Darkrai would (and did before his work was undone) ruin the world just so he can rule over the resulting world of darkness. He has attempted to corrupt the player and their partner to his side with words, so here he'd be making a similar We Can Rule Together offer with you that's to be sealed with a hug. Considering he's evil and his dream abilities, if you refuse he'd either try to kill you or put you in a neverending nightmare, unable to ever wake up.
