Trope Launch Pad discard project

Agreed and bombed all.

The Turnaround, along with being minimal-effort, uses Example as Thesis rather than explaining what the trope is. There's a comment below providing an example that isn't (or claims not to be) Hourglass Plot, but because the draft description explains little, I can't tell if it's valid.

Hollywood Texting may have potential as a Discredited Trope due to advances in technology making it obsolete, but the trope is also covered by The Law of Conservation of Detail (because who wants to read a typo-laden text or watch a character correct typos) and is low-effort with lots of complaining and with no further edits than the initial draft.

Here are some very old ones I've hesitated to bomb because I think they might have potential. Anyone wanna feed and care for them? If not, I guess let's clear them out, too.

EDIT: I have an idea. I'll bump them with an "Up for grabs" notifier and track whether anyone takes them over. If not, we'll bomb and nuke.

Tropes to discard:

• Obvious Fake Death is a dupe of Like You Would Really Do It.

• Mid-Dialogue Sidenote is a low-effort stub, may be covered too.

• Permanent Lipstick is another low effort stub covered by Tertiary Sexual Characteristics (though a subtrope split was suggested, so maybe we can salvage it?)

• Funny Cause It's True is too subjective if it ain't in-universe, and in-universe, it's Satire.

• It's A Rental. Now, I don't even know what this is attempting to trope.

• Incredibly High-Stakes Game is Absurdly High-Stakes Game.

A trope that could use a sponsor:

• Fog of Apocalypse: Description and title need work, but I think there's an actual trope here.

I would actually not bomb those and I wouldn't force the Up for Grabs so much. I thought this thread was for absolutely hopeless drafts.

However, considering... the chances that anyone will grab them are pretty slim either way.

Well, what's "hopeless"? If nobody wants to take it over and it sits there forever, I'd say it hopeless.

Bumping makes it more likely that it may be seen by someone who wants it — more people peruse TLP than here. As long as we're assiduous about dumping them if nobody bites, they shouldn't disrupt TLP too much.

Yeah, and it's actually better to bump drafts that have potential (with an actual reason for doing so, which is provided by Drac each time) than to just let them sit in purgatory. We'll see what the others at the TLP think of them before acting.

My two cents are to not bomb or discard the old drafts with potential. I'd rather have this thread be for cleaning out obvious trash drafts only, and (if there isn't a thread for this already) start a new long-term/perpetual thread for figuring out what to do with the cobwebbed drafts.

Body Image Panic is covered by Embarrassment Plot. Para 5: "Maybe they're embarrassed about some aspect of their body such as"... So it can be bombed.

Permanent Lipstick's description doesn't even suggest Tertiary Sexual Characteristics. Maybe the sponsor meant it, but the effort given is minimal, so I will bomb it.

One of my concerns for leaving poorly written drafts because they have potential is that later, someone with the same idea might unknowingly create a duplicate with better writing, which is how we came to have duplicates "Five Things" Fic and Anti-Rage Quitting (both tropes are from younger drafts). But that's a maybe, and I do leave them alone if they're unique, clear(ish), and have a few examples listed.

• It's "Miss" — Seems like stock phrase territory.
• Standardized Phlebotinum — Really covered by Applied Phlebotinum already, it has a big honking list of common ones.
• Heartbroken Hyperbole — Wangst covers this.
• The Ubiquitous Lighter — This is chairs for older films made when smoking was almost universal (which the only properly-done example is.)
• Fax The Original Over — Only two examples, both are intentional gags. Probably too rare to trope.

Subtext Derailment: Between Comically Missing the Point and Oblivious to Hints, I think we have this covered.

War Weary Warrior: Covered by Shell-Shocked Veteran and Reluctant Warrior and possibly I Will Fight No More Forever.

god vs. god: Takes One to Kill One. Some "god" examples can be found on that page, but not enough to split into a subtrope. (Also, "note: this needs a custom title to make both lowercase" misses the point of title case.)

Frustration Glass Door Slam: Covered by the broader and better written (and ready-to-launch) draft, Door Slam Of Rage. (Hey! You're on there, Miss_Desperado!)

Pinata Party KO: Too rare to trope. The title and laconic suggest Finishing Move, and this is adequately covered by Humiliation Conga.

Video Game Mime Artist: The "stereotypical 'laser' sounds" part is covered by Pac Man Fever, and the "playing videogames VERY intensely" bit sounds like Milking the Giant Cow or just bad acting applied to video games.

Kiss The Chef: Fun T-Shirt except it's an apron. The wearer being a man is covered by Real Men Cook.

Delightfully Disappointed: I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham.

Adaption Separation: Due to how licensors work, this looks like chairs to me. An "adaption" being different from another is chairs if not extremely broad.

RandomSpectatorFatality: We have Spectator Casualty.

I'm noticing a trend with old drafts just having...awful standards. Maybe it's just because we're digging through the leftover trash, but even the "good" drafts have poorly written descriptions, formatting issues, bad titles, zero-context examples... and judging by how I've never seen an old draft with people pointing out these sorts of errors, I must say I'm glad we don't live in the 2011 version of this site anymore.

Laxer standards maybe. Could be sample size bias because I'm focusing on older drafts. Or newer drafts have higher odds of Arivne hopping in and improving the formatting.

Well, using your fingers to extinguish a flame is a uncommon action, and usually isn't done casually? Maybe it's usually done as something cool? *shrugs*

Eh, I've been on the TLP actively for about a year now and as soon as bad drafts like these are produced they pretty much get nuked out of orbit just for being badly written. It's definitely because our standards have gotten higher. Nobody tolerates bad drafts anymore, but they apparently did back then.

Real men are meaty: Eugh, this one is not only poorly written and seems based on one person's subjective preference, but as pointed out, it's not a trope.

Lemony Background Singers: Greek Chorus, but more.

Human girl wins: Just Muggle and Magical Love Triangle, but with the requirement that the muggle wins. Same but more.

Tropes By Country: Attempted index with only two examples.

Red and White Jersey: As is, this is PSOC, and also a badly written stub draft anyway.

Only a diamond can cut a diamond: I think this is covered by Takes One to Kill One.

The rules and standards were indeed much laxer across the site. People were allowed to create joke pages for forum games, and ZCEs were just fine, and you could use indecipherable names for tropes based on your pet series, among other things.

These were the wild and lawless days, when The Catapult Turtle Flying Castle Gambit roamed free upon the plains...

I don't think Finger Extinguisher is trope-able as described. I suspect there's meaning to it but I have no clue what it is. Maybe the character is tough or something? Eh.
