The Copy-Paste Cleanup Thread

The troper Naethaeris has been adding discriptions to the various Warhammer character pages ripped directly from the Warhammer Wiki (often including the reference links from the source). Some of the changes are so extensive that a complete revert may unfortunately be necessary.

EDIT: I have PMed him about the issue, asking him to rewrite or remove the copied sections.

I have received a PM back from troper Naethaeris about the Warhammer character sheets where he outright says his edits are word for word reproductions of passages from actual Warhammer source books (which a - isn't any better, and b - I believe untrue, look at the description of Mazdamundi, on the Lizardman character page and here on the Warhammer wiki). He then goes on to say that he and others did the same on the Total War: Warhammer pages and nobody had a problem with it, which I am guessing is due to nobody who knows about the no copy/paste rule frequenting those pages regually.

What should be done here as Naethaeris' editis are quite extensive? Would a mod revert be appropriate?

At this point, I doubt a mod revert would work (it's been too long and there's too much), although I don't see many other options outside bringing the mods in. Even if we got someone who owns the splatbook in question to verify that both our page and that wiki's page are copying from the book's text, it's still copied text, and they admitted to it.

Still, I'll give them a chance to make a public defense. ~Naethaeris, I'm calling you in to answer why you thought any form of plagiarism was okay. (And be warned, "other people were doing it" isn't exactly going to cut it.)

I had a look in my copy of the 8th Edition Lizardman book and while it is almost word for word there are some changes, changes that are however present on the Warhammer wiki (the Lizardman book doesn't mention Mazdamundi being Kroak's successor - mealy that he was toght by him - the wiki does).

On other matters, it looks like Mack Wylde isn't coming back after getting a ban, so I'm going through his history and seeing if there are any more pages he made we need to list. Also, I'll just throw Ain't Them Bodies Saints on the Cut List, due to it being a stub on top of the copy paste from Wikipedia.'

Edit: Naturally, I found another creator page Mack Wylde created with text copied from Wikipedia. It's on the list now.

Double post, since the PM response I got from Naethaeris indicates they will not be cooperative, so they're being dealt with elsewhere.

In the meantime, given the scope of those character pages and the number of edits they made, a Short Term Projects thread to clean up the Warhammer character pages may be needed. I am not of much help here, since I know little of Warhammer (and most of what I do know is centered on 40K), so you will probably want to ask for help in the Warhammer forum threads.

I have posted in both the Warhammer and Total War: Warhammer threads asking for help with a rewrite and I will do what I can if/when I have the time.

While cleaning up some of Naethaeris' copy/paste I have found that pocketlint60 also seems to have added some material from the Warhammer wiki to the Dwarf character page back in March. I haven't had a chance to check his other edits yet to see if he has done it before or since though.

Is Grace Jones too similar to the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article?

Looking at the history, it's clearly a case of copy-pasting from Wikipedia, then trying to edit it enough so it doesn't match 100%. While this is better than a straight copy-paste, I'd prefer original descriptions from the get-go.

Any copy-pasting is too much copy-pasting. The difference is whether we can let it slide for the moment, or if it needs fixing immediately.
