Apparently some people find it easier to copy-paste text from other sources, including Wikipedia or the creator's original site, instead of coming up with their own text.
However, this could get the website in a ton of legal trouble for plagiarism and/or copyright violations. (Not to mention it's lazy writing to boot.) Since stopping that problem is a very high priority, and I've observed multiple cases of this problem as of late, let's give this its own dedicated clean-up thread. If you see any work, character, or recap descriptions that copy another source word-for-word, bring them up here if you're not sure how to immediately fix them.
Moderator notice: If you cannot immediately rewrite plagiarized text, remove it and put in a placeholder note. A sample follows:
[This description was copied in violation of our [[Administrivia/AboutImagesAndCopyright Plagiarism]] policy. Please replace it with original writing.]
Below is a list of currently known pages that suffer from this problem, and the source they copy from. (This list can be updated by mods or by me, Totemic Hero.) The ideal goal is to have these pages fixed within a week or two of finding out about the copy-paste. If we can't manage to come up with a fix in that time frame, then we'll probably have to outright Cut List said pages, because the site can't risk legal issues.

Would this be the appropriate place to discuss a page that Copy/Pastes from another page on our own site?
Characters.Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin is a Copy/Paste of Characters.Mobile Suit Gundam with only a handful of blatantly incorrect removals, but a lot of equally incorrect tropes still there. Now, The Origin is an adaptation of MSG so there's going to be a lot of overlap, but it's still concerning.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. That needs to do what other cross-series characters pages do — lump them all on one and then link that character page from the individual works' character subpages.
In this case, it seems simple enough to make Characters.Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin a redirect to Characters.Mobile Suit Gundam. The note about tropes only from a certain series needs to be removed: the tropes applicable to characters are always true irrelevant of when they first showed up.

OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!I'm not sure if that's the solution... these aren't sequel series but rather separate continuities so conflating the characters might not be the best of ideas.
And I have noticed they have actually done a fair amount of work in trying to eliminate examples from the source material... but there's just so much there that there's still a ton left.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.send it to dedicated clean up? I don't know enough about it beyond the original series to give further judgement.
OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!Characters.Mongrels is copied from the show's official website and has no tropes listed.

Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!Characters.Dota 2 contains the lores of the heroes copied verbatim from the game. Should they be removed?
cut
rewrite
OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!Is it just me, or does Theatre.Dear Evan Hansen's plot description look cobbled together from various sources? The last sentence in particular looks like it came from the play's Wikipedia page (unless that page's editors got it from somewhere else...).
Going by the page history, the Dear Evan Hansen page did indeed begin its life as a copy-paste from Wikipedia, but was tweaked away from that by a different troper. It probably wouldn't hurt to have a few more changes to differentiate it more, but it's probably not a major issue at the moment.
Edit: on the other hand, the guy who made the page (jewishenjolras) has done this before, with the Film.La La Land page. I'll double-post to call him into the thread so he knows the deal.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Double post to call ~jewishenjolras to this thread for a heads-up that copy-pasting from other websites like Wikipedia is a no-no.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)So, should I start a short-term project for the rewriting of Dota 2's lore?
that really depends how much there is to rewrite. More than, ooh, a good sized folders worth would probably make sense to have a dedicated project.
OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!There are over a hundred heroes and they all have their own lore to redo, I think that's worthy of a project.
I agree. It makes sense for that to be in short-term projects.
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyWell, I removed the offending lore and started a short-term project in hopes of recruiting others to help the cause.
I think I would like to take over for the Smite character pages. I'll start with the Japanese Pantheon page first, with the rest following. If it is found unworthy, just revert.

FanWorks.Galactic Civilizations T Francis Vol One and FanWorks.Galactic Civilizations T Francis Vol Two are entirely copy-pasted from an After-Action Report. I'm thinking cut on these ones.
Edit: And so it is done.

Uh yeah, wow. Wrong namespace, no examples...they should be doomed.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Pretty sure this falls under the jurisdiction of this thread.
Recap.Dragon Ball Z Abridged K 1 is literally just the episode script without any tropes. I'm about to rewrite it.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? After I had removed the copied and pasted lores from Characters.Dota 2, areszzjay went and added descriptions copied from the Dota 2 Wiki. I removed them and sent a message.
~Zuxtron, if you aren't going to 1) give an edit reason explaining why you're deleting those descriptions, or 2) replace the removed text with original descriptions, you're not making yourself look any better than the other guy.
Also, paging ~areszzjay to come here and understand what's been going on.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I did give an edit reason linking to this thread when removing the copied lore.
It's not exactly feasible for me to simply rewrite all of the copied descriptions into original ones, considering how the game has Loads And Loads Of Characters. Since the first post of this thread claims that having lots of copied text can put the Wiki in trouble, I thought it would be better to just erase them for now and gradually add original ones over time. I even made a short-term project for it.
I do apologize for not spotting the edit reasons (my mistake).
However, deleting the text is only half the cleanup. The other half is coming up with replacement descriptions. I know getting help with projects threads is iffy, but...how hard is it to write up one or two placeholder sentences and then add an editor note? The fact that you didn't even try that is not exactly a positive look.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Writing a short placeholder for one hero is pretty easy, but multiply that by a hundred and the task suddenly becomes much less manageable.
I realize that I may not have been very active on that project recently, but I believe that it's better to have empty spaces on these pages than potentially copyright-infringing plagiarized text.
